Indie Rights has acquired worldwide distribution rights to “Vincent,” the atmospheric arthouse dark comedy from Australian filmmaker Alan King, it was revealed on the sidelines of Hong Kong FilMart.
The film, which King both directed and stars in as the troubled writer Vincent Tremblay, follows a protagonist who retreats to an isolated location to complete his first novel, only to encounter a mysterious powerful force that disrupts his solitude.
“With ‘Vincent,’ it was my intention for the line between reality and fantasy to be never clearly defined,” King explains. “Many of the events and themes in the film’s narrative serve as metaphoric representations of addiction, isolation, mental health, friendships, family, social prejudices and concepts of identity.”
The film features a cast including Christopher Kirby, Mercia Deane-Johns (“Last Cab to Darwin”), Greg Fleet (“Wolf Creek”) and Zoe Bertram (“Under the Lighthouse Dancing”), with newcomers Bill Evans and Paree Brar rounding out the ensemble.

After kicking off Australian horror month with Greg McLean’s Wolf Creek (listen), Jenn and I have turned our attention to a crocodile-based creature feature. But rather than do Rogue, another film by the same Aussie director, we’re spreading the love to filmmakers Andrew Traucki and David Nerlich and their 2007 film Black Water.
The film is based on a real-life incident from 2003, when 22-year-old Brett Mann was swept away in a flooded river in the Northern Territory. His two friends, Ashley McGough and Shaun Blowers, pursued him, but when McGough spotted a crocodile in the water, the pair climbed a tree to safety. Sadly, Mann was killed, and his body was carried away by the creature.
The nightmare for his friends continued when the crocodile returned, forcing them to spend the night in the tree. It’s a harrowing story that was turned into not one, but two 2007 creature...

In 2005, Greg McLean’s bleak horror film Wolf Creek made waves with its unflinching savagery and disturbing violence. The story follows friends Liz (Cassandra Magrath), Kristy (Kestie Morassi) and Ben (Nathan Phillips) as they backpack across the Australian outback. But when car trouble leaves them stranded near the titular landmark, the friends get surprising help from a local man named Mick (John Jarratt). Unfortunately, this handy helper turns out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He drugs the trusting travelers then traps them on his hellish compound in order to amuse himself with unthinkable torture and sadistic violence.
Adding to the terror is the film’s opening claims that this horrific story was based on actual events. In fact, McLean was inspired by the real life crimes of Bradley Murdoch and Ivan Milat. Both men preyed on backpackers traversing Australia, using the outback’s dangerous isolation to aid in their atrocities.

The team behind horror hit Terrifier 3 will be reviving a horror classic. Production company Cineverse has confirmed a new entry in the Wolf Creek film series.
Australian horror hit Wolf Creek broke new ground when it was released in 2005, as it was shot on a micro-budget of just $1 million almost exclusively on high-definition video. Picnic at Hanging Rock and Dark Age's John Jarratt gave a terrifying performance as a serial killer hunting in the Aussie outback. Wolf Creek's box office success led to a 2013 sequel and a TV spinoff.

There’s a new Wolf Creek movie coming our way, with Wolf Creek: Legacy aiming for a fall 2026 release… but franchise creator Greg McLean isn’t going to be writing or directing that one. While he remains on board the project as producer, he handed the writing duties over to Duncan Samarasinghe and chose Sean Lahiff, who was editor on Wolf Creek 2, to direct the film. While Lahiff focuses on bringing Wolf Creek: Legacy to the screen, McLean has set up another project: he’ll be directing the meta action horror film The Horror Game, and Variety reports that Ella Balinska of the Netflix Resident Evil series has signed on to star in it.
Scripted by Gus Krieger (Would You Rather), The Horror Game has the following synopsis: While desperate to find her missing sister, a young woman (Balinska) and her three best friends find themselves trapped inside a...

It's been a long time since the world heard from Mick Taylor, the Australian serial killer at the heart of one of the most brutal horror franchises ever made: Wolf Creek. All that is about to change thanks to Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting, though, as the duo are set to revive the series with a new sequel in 2026 titled Wolf Creek: Legacy.
First announced last year, Variety is reporting that the same team behind Terrifier 2 and 3 have acquired the distribution rights to Wolf Creek: Legacy, and will release it to theaters in the fall of 2026. John Jarratt will return to reprise the role of Taylor, and director Greg McLean is taking on a behind-the-scenes role as a producer this time around, with Sean Lahiff running point as director. Australian horror is slowly and recently gaining global traction -- the genre that used to only be recognized for modern classics like Wolf Creek and The Babadook is finally being acknowledged as diverse and fairly expansive with newer hits like Talk to Me. In its wake, the burgeoning space of Australian indie horror is also beginning to take root, with the entries of Sissy and Bloody Hell receiving widespread critical acclaim and an increasing audience. While John Balazs' Freelance may be marketed as a psychological thriller, it fits seamlessly in the nook of Australian indie horror, finding its strongest stride in the slow-burn horror elements of its runtime. The film was on the official selection in Australia's Monsterfest 2024 with a release not just in its home country, but in the U.S. too.

When it comes to Australian survival thrillers, Wolf Creek has absolutely dominated the genre, shaping our expectations of it. As such, gems like Killing Ground go under the radar, particularly since it doesn't have the stereotypical outback in the marketing scheme. As much as the outback is a part of Aussie culture, the vast empty landscape is located centrally in the country, and most people live on the outskirts. Killing Ground makes a more familiar Australian landscape into a nightmare, the bushlands, where even more recognizable cultural and historical staples are referenced and turned into relentless nightmare fuel that are universally terrifying.

Territory, Netflix's best Yellowstone replacement, debuts to a solid score on Rotten Tomatoes. Originally titled Desert King, by creators Ben Davies and Timothy Lee, Territory is a six-episode Western that puts the spotlight on Marianne Station. It's the world's largest cattle station, owned for generations by the Lawson family dynasty, and a target for rivals, gangsters, and Indigenous elders, as the Lawsons engage in a battle for succession. The Australian drama recently arrived on Netflix, with reviews starting to come in.

During the era of network television, shows used to have a shelf-life of at least 10 seasons. Some TV series that were made before the Ott boom continue to enjoy the freedom to adapt and improve over the course of many years, but the same can’t be said about made-for-ott shows, especially the ones on Netflix. Yes, “guilty pleasure content” like Emily in Paris and Elite has benefited from the hate-watch syndrome. However, a lot of really good shows have been unceremoniously axed by the streaming platform before they could find their audience. The one cancellation that hurt viewers the most was Mindhunter. Now, ever since its termination, fans have been clamoring for David Fincher, Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, and the rest of the team to come together for at least one more season. Like the monkey’s paw curling effect, they did return to Netflix, but just via different projects.

Some of the greatest horror movies draw inspiration from real-life killers. Whether it be Henry Lee Lucas's influence on Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) or Ed Gein's influence on Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960), true crime and horror have long gone hand in hand. Yet, there is one infamous family of cannibals that has had a substantial influence on film, literature, and video games whose victims were said to be over a thousand, the notorious Sawney Bean family.
One of the best movies to bring this legend to light is Rob Schmidt's shocking 2003 film Wrong Turn. The 2000s horror movie was an early purveyor of extreme cinema in the mainstream, predating 2004's Saw and 2005's Wolf Creek. The movie was a hit with fans and would go on to spawn many sequels and a remake; with such gruesome inspiration, it is not a surprise Wrong Turn saw success among horror hounds.

Three years ago, it was announced that Wolf Creek 3 was moving forward, with Rachele Wiggins making her feature directorial debut on the film and John Jarratt, who played Australian serial killer Mick Taylor in the films Wolf Creek (watch it Here) and Wolf Creek 2 (watch that one Here) as well as two seasons of a Wolf Creek television series (you can see season 1 at This Link and season 2 at This One) on board to reprise the role. Unfortunately, something has been holding the project back from starting production… but last month, it was announced that Wolf Creek 3, now going by the title Wolf Creek: Legacy, will start filming in Australia at the start of next year, with Wiggins having been replaced at the helm by Sean Lahiff, who was editor on Wolf Creek 2. Now, during an interview with David Clair-Bennett, Jarratt has revealed that the new film will be “dark and creepy,...

After two movies and two seasons of a TV series, Outback murderer Mick Taylor will return in Wolf Creek: Legacy, recently announced as both the third installment and something of a reboot of Greg McLean’s horror franchise. But have no fear, John Jarratt is back as Mick Taylor.
What can we expect from Wolf Creek: Legacy? Speaking with David Clair-Bennett for his YouTube channel this week, John Jarratt teased a tone more in line with the original Wolf Creek.
“It’s dark and creepy again,” Jarratt teases. “It’s more like the first one. With the second one, we had a bit of fun. Cracked a few jokes. For this one, the dark creepy thing is the ultimate when it comes to playing Mick. Just creeping up and being scary.”
Jarratt adds, speaking about Mick Taylor, “He never runs, never yells, never dies.”

It could be argued that 2014's The Babadook is one of the most important horror films of this century. Not only did it bring Australia back into the conversation of great horror cinema after its long post-Wolf Creek hiatus, but it helped to introduce the stylized and deeply emotional method of storytelling we'd soon see in the fledgling A24, or what some might call "elevated horror." Essie Davis gives a fantastic lead performance, but the show's real star is the Babadook itself. The storybook monster comes to life as the manifestation of trauma and grief portrayed by Tim Purcell, and there are many reasons why it's one of the great modern movie monsters. The name is catchy, its design is simple yet striking, taking a lot of inspiration from Lon Chaney's The Man in the Beaver Hat in London After Midnight. Its vessel being a Cabinet of Dr.

The Wolf Creek franchise is getting a long-anticipated reboot movie, which is fantastic news for the cult fan base of this unconventional slasher series. Created by writer-director Greg McLean, this franchise began in 2005 with the original Wolf Creek. Set in the Australian outback, the plot revolves around three unsuspecting backpackers who get hunted and captured by a sadistic, xenophobic serial killer named Mick Taylor, played by John Jarratt. The script was inspired by the real-life murders of backpackers committed by Ivan Milat in the 90s and Bradley Murdoch in 2001.
In 2013, McLean directed a sequel, simply titled Wolf Creek 2, which saw Mick kidnapping and torturing a British tourist and a young German couple traveling in the outback. In 2016, the Wolf Creek franchise was revived as a web series on the Australian streaming service Stan. Jarratt again reprised his role as Mick and the show ran for two seasons. Now, a...

Two decades after Wolf Creek shocked audiences and became a surprise box office hit, the notorious Outback horror franchise is making a chilling return. Deadline exclusively reports that Wolf Creek: Legacy is officially in the works, bringing back the brutal thrills that made the original film a cult classic. Released in 2005, Wolf Creek was a game-changer for Australian horror, raking in $30 million globally on a shoestring $1 million budget. The film's success spawned a sequel in 2013 and a TV series, but despite years of rumors and false starts, the scent of a third film went cold until now.

Its been more than 10 years since John Jarratt walked off into the Australian outback in Wolf Creek 2 as serial killer Mick Taylor, but the deranged psychopath is getting ready for a big return in 2025 with the sequel Wolf Creek: Legacy. First released in 2005, Wolf Creek has gone on to be regarded as one of the best Australian horror films of all-time, and for elevating the sub-genre known as torture porn to new heights with its rich character development and stunning cinematography. Directed by Greg McLean, its 2013 sequel was met with equal praise, with The Sydney Morning Herald calling it at the time "the greatest Aussie flick ever made."
Per Deadline, McLean will return to produce Wolf Creek: Legacy which is set to once again feature Jarratt in the lead with directorial duties this time falling to Sean Lahiff, who served as editor on Wolf Creek 2, and the short-lived...

A horror movie franchise that's been dormant for years is getting revived with an all-new reboot. The announcement comes nearly two decades after the original movie's release.
In 2005, the horror movie Wolf Creek was released. Introducing John Jarratt as serial killer Mick Taylor, the film followed British tourists getting stalked by the murderer in the Australian outback. Jarratt returned for a sequel, released in 2013, which saw Mick again targeting tourists who make the mistake of venturing into his territory. From 2016 to 2017, Jarratt would also star as Mick in the Australian TV series, this time focusing on a teen American tourist. There had been rumors ever since of a third movie getting made, and now Deadline has revealed that a new installment of the film series is officially moving forward.

Australia's most prolific horror movie returns, as a new Wolf Creek sequel is in development. Inspired by real-life cases of backpackers losing their lives at the hands of sadistic killers, the 2005 feature saw three backpackers become the prey of Taylor and being subject to grisly torture. While its excessive, unrelenting violence left critics divided on whether it was exploitative or provocative, the Australian horror movie did earn back its budget and spark a wider franchise with a sequel and a TV series.
Nineteen years after audiences were first introduced to Mick Taylor, Deadline reports that a new Wolf Creek sequel is in development, with filming set to begin in 2025. Nineteen years ago, the horror-fan community was shaken up by a bold Australian movie: Wolf Creek told the story of a group of backpackers who wander through the Australian outback and get captured by an extremely sadistic serial killer who hunts them for the thrill. The movie earned almost $30 million a modest number, but exorbitant in comparison with the project's $1 million budget. Now, Deadline revealed that the wheels are turning for an American reboot titled Wolf Creek: Legacy to start filming in early 2025.

This time around it’s a family of American tourists who wander innocently into Taylor’s hunting grounds. When the parents sacrifice themselves to save their children, the kids find themselves alone, lost and hunted in the vast Australian wilderness. Wolf Creek: Legacy, a reboot of the infamous Australian horror, is set to film in early 2025. More on the film here.
2005’s Wolf Creek remains one of the most vicious horror films of the 2000s. Taking inspiration from the fact that hundreds of people go missing in Australia every year, the film starred John Jarratt as serial killer Mick Taylor, who preyed on unsuspecting hikers in the Australian Outback. The film spawned a sequel, Wolf Creek 2, but the less we say about that one, the better.
Deadline now reports that Wolf Creek is due for a reboot. Wolf Creek: Legacy is heading into production in early 2025 and original director Greg Mclean is producing. The film will be directed by Sean Lahiff, who edited Wolf Creek 2.

There are reasons why the 2009 Australian horror film The Loved Ones was a box office flop, only making back $358,399 of its $4 million budget. It might be the dissonance between the marketing and the product. People might've gone into this film expecting a straightforward teen horror film la Prom Night given the young cast and prom night aesthetic, when it's anything but. Not to mention, while Australian horror got its moment in the sun once again with Wolf Creek in 2005, it didn't quite carry over into other movies. This is a shame because The Loved Ones once again proves that box-office performance doesn't dictate a film's quality and that, contrary to popular belief, the 2000s was a great decade for horror if you know where to look.

The good news is that Bloody Disgusting is releasing an awesome line of SteelBooks for seven popular Lionsgate movies this summer. The bad news is that my wallet will be hurting because I need these so badly.
The collection is a Walmart exclusive and will feature the films Wolf Creek, Sinister, Texas Chainsaw (2013), I Spit On Your Grave (2010), You're Next, Leatherface, and Hannibal Rising. Each SteelBook includes the Blu-ray version of the film plus a digital copy.
All the new Steelbooks feature a new look and artwork by the artist Bond, designed as specially commissioned collectibles. They will be sold individually exclusively at Walmart beginning on August 20, retailing for $24.99 each.
More information about each of the titles below:
Wolf Creek (2005) - An Australian horror film about a trio of backpackers taken hostage by a psychopathic serial killer in the outback.
