In an online interview, Gary Daniels claimed that his onscreen fight with Steven Seagal was originally conceived as much longer and showier by stunt coordinator Steve Griffin. Seagal supposedly choreographed the fight himself on the day it was filmed, rendering it much shorter and one-sided.
Steven Seagal and Anthony Hickox disagreed on much of the film which eventually resulted in Seagal leaving the film.
One of the first films where Steven Seagal showed significant weight gain. In a Uruguayan press kit for the straight to video release of this movie, when it premiered at the local video store, Seagal is described as "His appearance is akin to that of the Butterball, a cenobite enemy from the film Hellraiser".
Much was said about the production's problems and the volatile relationship between director Anthony Hickox and Steven Seagal, but things escalated and got much worse. At the time, during filming (2004), actress Ashley Laurence, a friend of Canadian actor William Hope, paid him a visit and talked about it later during her appearance in a 2023 comic con. She explained how she witnessed Seagal's temper tantrums regarding stray cats on set(Hope used to feed them, enraging Seagal), and how, one time, Seagal had to run for his life after insulting Vinnie Jones' mother, what made the soccer star go ballistic and chase Seagal around the set with a knife with the intent to murder him. She also told how, during a stressful rehearsal day, director Hickox went insane and, yelling and crying, handled producer Avi Lerner a fully loaded gun and asked him to blow Seagal's head off.
This is the second time Vinnie Jones and P.H. Moriarty have appeared together; the first was Arnaques, crimes et botanique (1998).
