Salman and Amrish Puri are the sparks !

Garv is a film that appeals mostly to those who are all time serious guys, not to be meddled with carelessly any point of time. Though it's boring, most people generally find perfect guys as boring, still it narrates a well to do decent event of police against criminals. Punit Issar was the evil guy in the Mahabharata who is the director of Garv, retains the same flavor of statement delivery and narratives of Kurukshetra tale. The statements are clear cut and slow to progress, wild and hot for antagony and calm and peaceful for protagony.

Salman Khan is the lead guy in it. Watch it for him. His performance as the hard but honest policeman is worth watching. Apart from that the content is nothing new, the same honesty of good, the same evil traits of evil, the same old foolishness of the villains and the usual climax. There is no place of high profile twist in the film, just everything straight forward, may seem very boring to some with nothing sorts of brilliancy or interesting. Still it is watchable due to performances of Salman and Amrish Puri. Amrish puri is good this time, very unusual but still good. Both Salman and Amrish Puri are like the sparks of the film, they grips the movie.

The film progresses in flashback where Salman had committed mass murder and awaits the final punishment. Amrish puri as the decent senior policman who abided the constitution properly, along with his conscience, acts as the lawyer who tries to defend him. The actresses are average, but it's only for spicing the film, nothing realistic. That's where these films are lowered from real experience. Songs are added for melody, but I feel they were not needed, nothing seems parallel, with the songs, just usual Bollywood masala. Instead some subplots were to be added to make it interesting, thrilling or expansion of the theme or something like that. Finally it's a good watchable action drama where good destroys evil and is redeemed. It's a 70/100.

    Low Quality Junk

This movie was junk, an absolute waste of time. Salman Khan must be the most narcissistic male alive. He constantly has to preen in front of the camera, flexing his muscles while trying to suck in his gut. The movie does have some positive messages such as the need to not scapegoat police for everything and treat them according to double standards. But the fight scenes are garbage, the melodrama is childish, and the gang-rape scene was salacious trashy cinema intended purely for shock value, just like go-go dancing scenes with those ugly dancing girls. Salman's receding hairline and growing gut mean that he'll have to find another career sometime soon, because he won't be tenable on screen for much longer.

Another excellent Salman Khan performance but script fails

I had huge expectations for the film. There was quite a bit of hype for the film, considering it is Salman's first film since his last film, the excellent critically acclaimed Tere Naam.

One thing going against the film is the fact so many cop flicks have been released eg Khakee, Ann, Police Force etc. Out the ones released Khakee being the best one.

However, Salman Khan's bravado performance was awesome. Salman Khan is the best in the industry at portraying intimidating characters. Tere Naam is another example of this. Salman Khan makes it believable. At the same time he easily portrays the good son, good brother, good friend and lover at the same time.

Punnet Isaar's script is too outdated to work in this era. Baghban was an exception , however that film had an emotional appeal as the basis of the story happens in this day and age still.

Overall, just watch it for Salman Khan's bravado performance. As an overall film, it is poor.

Another example of an honest and dutiful policeman

Garv is a story of three brave, honest and dutiful cops Arjun Ranawat, Samar Singh and Haider Ali Khan. Samar Singh wants the state to be a crime free state with the help of encounter specialist Arjun Ranawat and Haider Ali's team force. But they can't help him because the powerful politician Kashinath Trivedi, Yeshwant Pandey etc. made the state corrupted by staying connected with the underworld don Zafar Supari. Salman's role as a serious encounter specialist Arjun Ranwat is a good ingredient of the movie. After a long long time Salman figured out himself in such a serious role with no-nonsense manner, which previously he made habit in David Dhawan's directions. He could have become a good role model for the entire policemen if the movie did better than a below average (as per box-office report) outcome. But Shilpa Shetty's role here seems out of requirement as she had no much role to impress the audience just than a bar dancer and later a housewife. Last but not the least, Garv walks in the same route to Sarfarosh but the carriage is not as strong and normal as the latter one.

    • Quotes

Satyanarayan Joshi: Mr. Trivedi, if you want to create a ruckus here too just like at the parliament, what is the meaning of this meeting? What is your problem after all?

Kashinath Trivedi: I don't have a problem. I have a question. Till when will your police carry out bloodshed on the streets of the city of Mumbai?

Police Commssioner Samar Singh: Until the last one of this city's gangsters isn't dead. Until we don't achieve the objective of a crime-free state. Until then.

Kashinath Trivedi: Mr. Chief Minister, please make your crazy commissioner understand. that he needs to stop shedding the blood of Dalits and minority groups.

Police Commssioner Samar Singh: Kashi Trivedi, politicians like you shed blood. Not the police. Who created fights in the country regarding temples and mosques? You did. The Brahmins against Yadavs in Bihar, the Thakurs against Dalits in UP, and the Muslims against Hindus in Gujarat. Who did all this? You did. Just for a few votes, you get a brother to kill his own brother. Then you warm yourselves with their funeral pyres. That's what politicians like you do, not the police.

Kashinath Trivedi: Hey! Human rights violator! You are accusing me? Me! I'll topple Satyanarayan Joshi's government in a snap.

      [Kashi snaps finger]

Kashinath Trivedi: I'll topple your chair, understood? I'll bring you down to a constable from a commissioner.

      [Party members laugh]

ACP Arjun Ranavat: Kashi Trivedi. Whose human rights are you speaking about? Those hooligans, who don't consider humans as humans? Those who shoot at innocent people? Who widow their wives and orphan their children? Kashi Trivedi, are you praising their human rights? They aren't humans. How can we have a human consideration for them? They are inhuman bastards. They just understand one language. This one.

      [Arjun shows his gun]

Kashinath Trivedi: Shut up! You mere police inspector! You're flying high on their strength, aren't you? This chief minister's days are on thin ice now. I'll transfer this commissioner as soon as I become the chief minister. And as for you, if I don't make you salute me everyday, my name won't be Kashi Trivedi!

ACP Arjun Ranavat: Then listen to what I say too, Kashi Trivedi. The day I get some proof against you, you won't be sitting on the chief minister's chair but on your funeral pyre. And I promise you, Kashi Trivedi. You won't even get one man to shoulder your funeral.
