Exclusive: 20th Century Studios has acquired The Princess, a spec script By Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton that has The Kissing Booth‘s Joey King attached to star. They’ll make it for Hulu and while the logline is being kept under wraps, spec is described as Rapunzel meets The Raid.
Pic will be Produced by Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe and Derek Kolstad (John Wick). King will be exec producer with Lustig and Thornton co-producing.
If the allusion to The Raid throws you, consider that King is moving from star/exec producer of the Netflix phenomenon The Kissing Booth to being cast opposite Brad Pitt in the action-thriller Bullet Train for Sony Pictures. She was Emmy-nominated for playing Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu limited series The Act, and recently became the youngest person to make a first look deal to produce series for the streaming service.

Firelight Media today revealed the 14 Fellows selected for the 2020-22 Firelight Documentary Lab. The 18-month program supporting Black, indigenous and other filmmakers of color is now in its 11th year.
The projects the new class bring to the Fellowship range from stories of generational Black farmers in the American South and the crisis of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in Montana to personal stories revolving around family, immigration, ancestry, identity and more.
“It has been an extraordinarily challenging year for documentary filmmakers, especially emerging filmmakers of color, which Firelight’s Documentary Lab is designed to support,” said Loira Limbal, SVP Programs at Firelight Media. “Between the dual crises of the global pandemic and the national reckoning with racist violence in the U.S., filmmakers like the 14 Fellows we’ve just welcomed into the Lab need funding, professional networks, and a supportive community of peers perhaps more than ever before.

Dying Light owes a debt to Dead Island, as the latest videogame battles against zombies begin...
Game developers are nothing if not persistent, as the recent influx of zombie games dribbling out of Steam and off store shelves clearly demonstrates. It would seem as though it's become something of a necessity to feature some form of undead horde for players to cut down like so much overgown lawn, and Dying Light is one of the latest, already being available for a while digitally, a month before its psychical retail release.
Unlike many zombie games currently doing the rounds, though, Dying Light already has a proven pedigree, even if it is a new IP. That's because the developer behind it was responsible for Dead Island, one of the most promising zombie survival games of recent years. Deep Silver decided to take Dead Island in a different direction to its original developer,...

Let's start the weekly round-up with Grimm.
Grimm's ratings dropped a little this week, but the show still won the 18-49 demo in its timeslot, finishing ahead of CSI: NY, Fringe and Supernatural, and rising by a full frakking ratings point (1.8) after Chuck (0.8). Wake up, Chuck.
Hitfix visited the set in Portland recently and posted a lengthy report. Here is a snippet:
Sasha Roiz on how his character will develop later in the series: "I’m not a Grimm descendent, but I'm a descendent of a long line that dates back just as Grimm does and we have a bit of a history and a past, so my line is a royal line and that will slowly unfold throughout the series."Collider has a longer interview with Sasha and Reggie Lee (more at the link):
It’s nice to see your character – like the main character – has the duality.

When Nick Adams moved to New York City, it took him 2 weeks a get a part on Broadway. That’s right – 2 weeks and he was cast in the revival of Chicago!
In fact, his first audition was for The Producers where it got down to him and one other person.
This was all in the same week. So, yes, Nick is a huge underachiever.
Since Chicago, Nick has worked pretty much non-stop on Broadway: A Chorus Line, The Pirate Queen, Guys and Dolls and La Cage aux Folles. Now, he can be seen in his first starring role, Adam/Felecia, the youngest in the trio of drag performers, in Priscilla Queen on the Desert.
Don’t think Nick’s got some sort of secret luck on his side. The guy works his butt off. Even though he’s starring in a major Broadway hit, he still finds time to go...
