Recent developments in the Bosch: Legacy franchise have helped prove the importance of the show's upcoming spinoff focusing on Rene Ballard. The Rene Ballard Bosch spinoff was ordered in late 2023 and is set to premiere in fall 2025. The new show will follow another L.A. detective, Rene Ballard, who specializes in unsolved cases. The original series, Bosch, which aired from 2014-2021, followed Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) during his job as an LAPD detective. The follow-up series the following year, Bosch: Legacy, sees Bosch retired and working on private investigations.

Exclusive: Maggie Q is set to headline Prime Video’s Untitled Renée Ballard series, a Bosch spinoff about the LAPD’s Cold Case Division. This marks the first series in Amazon MGM Studios’ Bosch franchise, inspired by the work of bestselling author Michael Connelly, which is not led by Titus Welliver. Amazon declined comment.

The untitled series follows Detective Renée Ballard (Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch (Welliver), to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.

Connelly, Michael Alaimo, and Kendall Sherwood executive produce. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate executive produce for Fabel Entertainment, with Jasmine Russ as co-executive producer.

A little over one month away, the Fantasia Film Festival announced it’s second wave of titles this morning. Fantasia Film Festival holds a special place in the hearts of Sound on Sight and we could not be more excited for their upcoming edition which promises to be bigger and better than ever. Arguably the largest genre film festival in the world, Fantasia will run from July 14th to August 4th this year and feature a large number of world and international premieres. Rocker Sting initially balked at the idea of recording a festive album - because he's not a fan of Christmas. The singer/songwriter admits he was stunned when record label executives suggested he should record a collection of holiday tunes, but he's glad he gave the idea due consideration.

Instead of recording "Jingle Bells" and "O Holy Night", Sting chose to revamp long-forgotten medieval tunes and songs from his upbringing in northern England for winter album "If on a Winter's Night...". He says, "When the record company said I should do a Christmas record I nearly threw up on the carpet. I don't like Christmas very much, but I said I'd do something about winter. The dark hours have a useful place in our psychology that allows us to reflect and reassess, so it's no surprise that we end up thinking about ghosts of Christmas past."

TORONTO -- Canadian movie producer Brightlight Pictures on Wednesday said that Patrick Lussier (Wes Craven Presents Dracula 2000, White Noise 2) will direct Headhunter, a psychological thriller based on Michael Slade's 1984 debut novel of the same name. Vancouver-based Brightlight said Wil Zmak (The Dark Hours) is penning the screenplay for the feature-length picture about a serial killer on the loose in Vancouver. Brightlight Pictures co-founders Stephen Hegyes and Shawn Williamson will produce Headhunter, having reunited with Lussier, who directed their earlier Michael Keaton starrer White Noise 2: The Light. There was no word on casting for Headhunter. Brightlights' recent movie credits include American Venus with Rebecca DeMornay and Jane McGregor and Dungeon Siege, which starred Jason Statham and Ray Liotta.

TORONTO -- Canadian comics Brent Butt and Paul Mather on Monday night picked up trophies for best comedy writing at the 2006 Canadian Screenwriting Awards, which were handed out in Toronto. Butt picked up his award for work on Corner Gas, the hit feel-good CTV comedy that he stars in and executive produces. The Writers Guild of Canada, which organizes Canada's screenwriting awards, also honored Suzette Couture with the best TV movie and mini-series writing award for her work on The Man Who Lost Himself, while giving Wil Zmak the best feature film script for The Dark Hours, the 2005 psychodrama that starred Aidan Devine and Gordon Currie.

COLOGNE, Germany -- An overhaul of its acquisition policy paid off for German licensing and distribution group Splendid Medien, which booked a net profit of €2.1 million ($2.5 million) last year, compared to a loss of €700,000 in 2004, Splendid announced Monday. The profit boost came despite a drop in sales. Profit at Splendid slipped to €20.3 million ($24.3 million) from €23 million in 2004. Splendid's turnaround has come from a focus on genre films and strong home entertainment titles such as Paul Fox's horror feature The Dark Hours and monster movie Godzilla: Final Wars. Splendid says sales will grow in 2006 and expects a further boost in operating profits but declined to give estimates.

BUCHEON, South Korea -- After months of controversy, the ninth Puchon Fantastic Film Festival came to a close Thursday night, with Paul Fox's The Dark Hours taking the top prize, the Best of Puchon award. Joaquin Oristrell won the best director award for Unconscious. Best actor went to the four leads of the Thai film Rahtree: Returns -- Phan Rojanarangsri, Supaliorn Srisawat, Sowjai Sukjai and Banphot Weerarat. Best actress gongs were shared between Orsi Toth for Johanna and Kate Greenhouse for The Dark Hours. The Jury Choice award was won by Olivier Smolders' Nuit Noire and the Pruzio Citizen's Choice award went to Bharatbala Ganapathy's Hari Om.

You can get visited by a serial killer and by all sort of psychos (The Dark Hours, Haute Tension , Funny Games, …), you can be inflicted by some strange diseases until then unknown to mankind (Cabin Fever, Dreamcatcher, …), you can lose your mind (The Shinning, Make a Wish) and you can even be eaten by zombies (Purple Glow, …). Cottages are just plain wrong … and who would like to stay in a place where there is no cell phone coverage anyways.
