The small screen has often redefined Indian fashion, from heavy sarees to makeup, bindis, and pallus. Characters like Komolika Basu with her modern-styled sarees, Gopi bahu’s ideal “bahu look”, and the professionally forward attire of Mallika Seth from ‘Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin’ have left a lasting impression.
Television stars are vocal about the small screen’s role as a trendsetter, showcasing affordable fashion.
Rakshanda Khan told Ians: “Ok, if you ask me, I think rather than being style revivers, TV actors are actually trendsetters! Look at a show like ‘Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin’.”
“The general public had no idea of what Satya Paul is till the show made it so popular that it fawned copies! Everything from sarees to bindis, jewellery, so much of it stems from what we see on TV,” added the actress, who has also worked in shows such as ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ and ‘Naagin 3’, among many others.

How often do women speak up against domestic violence? The answer is not many times. Maninee De is seen playing a lead role of a mother in the short film ‘Bisexuality’ and she feels that the topic of the film is bold but it is a subject that need to be discussesd and highligted.
She says: “Unfortunately, we live in a world where we are put into boxes and labels, and our sexuality sort of speaks about who we are. But, I genuinely feel that sexuality is something which is very personal, and everybody should be allowed their orientation.”
“The way that they want to live life, their love language, these things are very personal to every human being. So, yes, it is still a taboo subject. And people do not speak about it very openly. Now, of course, people have started talking about it. But there is still a judgment. We can’t live in a bubble and say that it does not exist.

'Jassi' TV has India in its grip
NEW DELHI -- A young, bespectacled female television character from Latin America has become the unlikely center of a runaway cultural phenomenon in India. One of India's most popular TV soaps, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin (There Is Nobody Like Jassi) is a localized version of Spanish telenovela Betty La Fea (Betty, the Ugly One) that originally aired on Colombia's RCN network. Not only has the soap boosted ratings for Sony Entertainment Television's flagship Hindi channel SET in India, but it has spawned a merchandising and marketing bonanza that ranges from a postal cover envelope (a rare honor by the Indian Postal Department) to mobile ringtones, games, a designer clothing line of her Punjabi suits and self-improvement books. Since early April, when Jassi's fans saw her Cinderella-like transformation into a supermodel, India's beauty industry has been doing a roaring trade with Jassi merchandising -- from weight-reduction clinics to contact lenses. One of the associated brands, VLCC, a national chain of weight-reduction clinics, even introduced a hair and skin treatment package called Aap Jaisi Koi Nahin (There Is Nobody Like You), an obvious reference to the show's title.
