While director Matt Reeves ("Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes") continues casting for some fey lead to star in his developing stand-alone "Batman" feature, brawny "Outlander" star Sam Heughan, who previously played the 'Dark Knight' for the "Batman Live" arena show, recently won an online poll at JustJared.com, appealing to both male and female fans as the next big screen 'Caped Crusader':

While director Matt Reeves searches for a 'familiar actor' to play 'Batman' in his developing Warners feature "The Batman", "Outlander" star Sam Heughan would like to remind Reeves he played the 'Caped Crusader' in Warners "Batman Live: Arena Tour" as a chisled-looking, super-physically fit character, rather than a pot-bellied Ben Affleck, or rodent-faced Christian Bale:

MaryAnn’s quick take… Not alt-history but a true story from a Nazi-occupied English-speaking place, a hugely relevant reminder that resistance to injustice is an absolute imperative. I’m “biast” (pro): always desperate for movies about women
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
We seem to be enthralled at the moment by alt-history stories about Nazis in England and America: the just-wrapped SS-gb on the BBC, The Man in the High Castle on Amazon. Perhaps they’re expressions of relief, of how easily such things might have happened; more likely we fear that similar nightmares are starting to happen now under slightly different guises. Yet it seems we’ve almost forgotten that there actually was a Nazi occupation of English-speaking places in WWII: the Channel Islands, the British Crown dependences between England and France. We’ve almost forgotten because tales...

Speculation continues as to who will take on the role of 'Batman' in director Zack Snyder's developing 2015 feature "Batman Vs Superman", playing against "Man Of Steel" actor Henry Cavill.
Some industry trades have suggested that Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Watchmen") will play an older bagged-out 'Caped Crusader', even though Morgan's headlining series "Magic City" was recently cancelled after a 2-season run.
Another actor in consideration to play the 'Caped Crusader' is 6' 3" Sam Heughan.
Heughan played 'Bruce Wayne/Batman' in Warners' "Batman Live: Arena Tour" and recently snagged the coveted role of long-haired Scottish warrior 'Jamie Fraser' in the upcoming Starz TV series "Outlander", adapting the New York Times best-selling book series.
Heughan is a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and a 2003 nominee for the 'Laurence Olivier Award' for 'Most Promising Performance'.

Starz announced on Tuesday (July 9) that Sam Heughan will play the male lead, Jamie Fraser, in "Outlander." Adapted from a series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, the TV series will premiere in 2014.
Heughan's character of Jamie is a Scottish warrior living in the mid-18th century. He begins a passionate affair with Claire Randall, a combat nurse from 1945 England who is mysteriously transported back in time to 1743. The character of Jamie is described as "intelligent, principled, and, by 18th century standards, educated and worldly, with a tenderness and compassion that stands out in contrast to his contemporaries." A man with a price on his head, Jamie wants nothing more than to return to his family's farm.
"Oh. My. God. That man is a Scot to the bone and Jamie Fraser to the heart," author Diana Gabaldon said of the casting choice. "Having seen Sam Heughan not just act, but be Jamie,...

Guest Review Stories inspired by real-life events of World War Two continue to inspire dramatists and filmmakers, especially in the UK…and I never tire of watching them. Here are three solid examples recently released as a boxed DVD set by Acorn Media. Island At War Several summers ago, my family and I visited the beautiful Isle of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. We knew nothing of its history or its role in World War Two. (I only knew the name in connection with cows, I’m afraid.) I was in for quite an education. This lovely, gentle island was occupied by the Germans for five years. The locals evacuated many of their children, and Jewish families, thinking they...

The Hurt Locker (Summit Entertainment) Absorbing character study follows the leader (Jeremy Renner) of a bomb squad unit in Iraq and his growing addiction to the adrenaline-fueled life and death edge that he and his men must walk on a daily basis. Director Kathryn Bigelow, an unheralded great filmmaker for nearly two decades, has finally hit paydirt with this gut-wrenching examination of war as drug, as opposed to hell. That said, The Hurt Locker is 2/3 of a great movie that takes a wild left turn in a subplot involving Renner’s character and that of a local boy to whom he takes a shine, and never quite recovers its momentum. In spite of that hiccup, it remains one of the best films of 2009 and, thus far, the finest cinematic exploration of America’s war in the Middle East. Also available on Blu-ray disc, in...
