Exclusive: Kevin Zegers (Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming The Madison) is set to headline Fleury, a biopic of famed NHL player Theo Fleury from director Michael Young, which goes into production in June.

Based on the bestseller Fleury: Playing with Fire by Fleury and Kirstie McLellan Day, the film explores the emotional highs and lows of Theo’s journey, both on and off the ice. A seven-time NHL All-Star, Olympic gold medalist, and Stanley Cup champion, Fleury built a career defined by grit and determination. Yet behind his success was a life of immense struggle. Fleury details his battle with childhood abuse at the hands of a trusted coach, his descent into addiction, and his path he ultimately wound up on toward healing and a life of advocacy.

Trevor Gretzky is set to portray his father, the NHL’s Wayne Gretzky, in the film, with former NHL forward and U.S.

Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón has made Oscar history. The titular Emilia Pérez star was just nominated for Best Actress, making her the first openly transgender performer ever nominated in the category. She stars in the musical as a Mexican drug lord who undergoes a gender transition but can’t fully escape her past.

This nomination is historic, but it didn’t come as a surprise. Beginning at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, Gascón and costars Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz were jointly named Best Actress. Emilia Pérez was then acquired by Netflix, which released it in theaters on Nov. 1 and on its streaming platform on Nov. 13.

Since then, the film has been enthusiastically embraced by awards groups. It received 10 Golden Globe nominations, the most ever for a comedy or musical, including one for Gascón. It went on to win four of those awards, including the top prize for best film.

Taylor Sheridan isn’t the kind of guy who plays it safe, and apparently, he didn’t start now either. One Marvel star thought Sheridan’s plan for his hit series was completely bonkers — so much so that they doubted it could even survive five seasons.

“The Madison,” the new upcoming series in the “Yellowstone” universe, has added four new cast members.

Variety has learned that Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Alaina Pollack and Danielle Vasinova have all joined the new Taylor Sheridan series. They will appear alongside previously announced cast members Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, Ben Schnetzer and Amiah Miller.

The official logline for “The Madison” describes it as a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”

Kevin Zegers is the newest addition to the cast of The Madison, the next installment in Taylor Sheridan’s growing Yellowstone universe.

Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions, The Madison is billed as a heartfelt study of grief and human connection, following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.

Zegers plays Cade, the new neighbor of Stacy Clyburn (Michelle Pfeiffer), who’s asked to look out for the place until the family shows up. In addition to Pfeiffer, the cast includes Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, Ben Schnetzer and Amiah Miller, as previously announced.

Mikey Madison will accept the coveted prize during this year’s Palm Springs International Film Festival — specifically at their awards show on Jan. 3, 2025, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The film festival itself runs from Jan. 2-13.

Felicity Huffman is joining “Criminal Minds: Evolution” as a brilliant doctor.

Variety reports that the “Desperate Housewives” actress is joining the Season 2 cast of Paramount+’s serialized revival of the long-running CBS crime procedural.

Huffman will guest star as Dr. Jill Gideon. Gideon is described as “a brilliant biological psychiatrist.” She’s the ex-wife of Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), the former leader of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. She has a complicated history with her late ex-husband and his Bau successor David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), which makes her reluctant to get involved with the team’s investigation into the murderous and mysterious Gold Star conspiracy. But her skills could be the key to cracking the case, so she agrees to help.

Season 2 of “Criminal Minds: Evolution” is currently in production. The cast includes A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, Ryan-James Hatanaka, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster.

Felicity Huffman is joining “Criminal Minds: Evolution” Season 2 in a guest star role, Variety has learned.

Huffman will appear in the second season of the Paramount+ continuation of the CBS series as a new character named Dr. Jill Gideon, the ex-wife of Jason Gideon.

The official description of the character states she is “a brilliant biological psychiatrist who agrees to help the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory. Jill is reluctant to return to the bureau’s elite team given her complicated history with David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and her dead ex-husband, Jason Gideon (previously played by Mandy Patinkin), but soon realizes her specific skill set could help them uncover another clue to the elusive Gold Star mystery.”

Felicity Huffman, who was nominated for an Oscar for playing a trans woman in 2005’s “Transamerica,” wouldn’t take on such a role again.

It’s a role that she “wouldn’t be able to do now,” Huffman told The Guardian. “I think we should reflect the audience and that’s got to include everybody. There has been such inequity for so long and now the pendulum must swing the other way. But I hope it leads to a situation where anyone can play anything.”

Huffman was asked about meeting trans actor Alexandra Billings, who was due to play the lead in “Transamerica” initially, at an awards ceremony. “I have no memory of that,” Huffman told The Guardian. “As an excuse, I also have no oestrogen left in my body.”

Burt Young, a former boxer who was in Sylvester Stallone’s corner as his brother-in-law Paulie in the six Rocky films and received a supporting actor Oscar nomination for his turn in the original, has died. He was 83.

He died on Oct. 8 in Los Angeles, his daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, told The New York Times Wednesday.

A tough guy in real life who usually played tough guys onscreen, Young portrayed a rotten client of gumshoe Jack Nicholson’s in Chinatown (1974), was mobster “Bed Bug” Eddie in The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984) and played Rodney Dangerfield’s protector/chauffeur Lou in Back to School (1986).

Burt Young, who played Paulie in six of the “Rocky” films starring Sylvester Stallone, drawing an Oscar nomination for supporting actor for his performance in the 1976 original, has died, his daughter Anne Morea Steingieser confirmed to the New York Times. He was 83.

Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy will star in a Theatre Aspen stage production of Anne Nelson’s The Guys this September.

The production, which will play on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11, is part of the theater’s Solo Flights festival, for shows in development, and will serve as a fundraiser for Theatre Aspen Education programming and the first responders in the surrounding Roaring Fork Valley.

Josh Sapan, a cable pioneer who has headed AMC Networks and its predecessors in the Dolan cable dynasty for more than 25 years, is seguing to the vice chairman role at AMC Networks.

Matt Blank, a contemporary of Sapan’s who headed Showtime for 20 years, has been tapped as interim CEO while AMC Networks conducts a search for a new CEO.

Exclusive: Jamie Carmichael (Black Book) and Simon Mirren’s (Criminal Minds) London and Los Angeles-based production label Atlantic Nomad has closed a TV and film slate financing deal with Finland-based venture capital fund manager Ipr.Vc.

The deal will provide overhead, development and production financing for the company, focusing on premium TV, with documentaries and feature films in consideration on a project-by-project basis.

The untitled single-camera comedy stars Huffman as the unlikely owner of a minor league baseball team. After suddenly losing her husband and inheriting his beloved team, she is forced to navigate her new normal with the help of her dysfunctional family, including her oldest son, a baseball devotee with Down’s Syndrome (Gottsagen), her work family and the Sacramento community at large. The upcoming “Central Park Five” limited series at Netflix has added three more actors to its cast.

Felicity Huffman, Jharrel Jerome, and Jovan Adepo have all signed on to the four-episode series, which will be written and directed by Ava DuVernay. They join previously announced cast members Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, and John Leguizamo.

Based on a true story, the series will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color who were convicted of a rape they did not commit.

Huffman will play Linda Fairstein, the prosecutor who headed the Manhattan district attorney’s sex crimes office during the case. Johansson opted to wear a Marchesa gown to Monday night’s Met Gala, making a loud statement in one of the evening’s most understated dresses. The “Avengers” star explains that she wore Marchesa because she wanted to show her support for the two women behind the brand, Chapman and co-founder Keren Craig.
