Barry Norton is the goat of all heckling in his small town. Everyone picks on him, except for Ruth Eddings, the banker's daughter. However, when Norton buys an "electric belt", he finds himself able to face down all comers. Even without the battery which it needs to work.
Not many of Fox's short silent comedies survive, thanks to a film vault fire in 1937 that wiped out most of Fox's silent material and pre-code features, as well as many of the well-regarded comedies for Educational Pictures. This one does, one of a series of shorts based on O. Henry stories. Like most of the surviving Fox comedy shorts, it's full of lively, well-directed gags. It makes me wish that more had survived.
