Om Shanti Om, as soon as you read the title, I bet like me, the music and the film immediately begins to play in your head. Directed by Farah Khan, the film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, Kirron Kher and introduced Deepika Padukone. If you can believe it, it has been 10 years since the magic of Oso hit the big screen.

It is as Farah says, a movie, within a movie within a movie. Set in the 70s and present day, Om Shanti Om has films, stars, sets, drama, dance, action, romance, revenge, reincarnation and finally Happys Endings. It is a movie that has it all and more!

Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks has announced a new animation film Mumbai Musicals that is inspired by the Indian epic Ramayana. Dubbed as the first Bollywood-style animation film from animation studio, the film “revolves around two common monkeys who become unlikely heroes in a last ditch effort to stop an ancient, thought-to-be-mythical demon from conquering the world,” according to the official DreamWorks website. According to DreamWork’s new distributor Twentieth Century Fox the Mumbai Musical will release on 19th December, 2015.

The film will be directed by Kevin Lima (Enchanted and Tarzan) and produced by Lisa Stewart (Turbo, Monsters vs. Aliens) and Chris Chase (Enchanted, Tarzan). I'm a big fan of North American cinema, and I think it's important to show their film industry plenty of support. My only problem is that once you've seen one or two North American films, you've pretty much seen them all. As a diaspora African I'd much rather watch other Africans on the big screen.

Sound odd? A tad racist, even? Of course it does, and yet that's how many non-Africans think of African cinema.

How is it that stories produced by Africans, be it film, music, or literature, are still considered niche, worthy, or somehow "less" than art created by non-Africans? At best, African cinema is considered "art house", African art is labelled "craft", and African literature must focus on the big three (famine, war or poverty) to be deemed authentic.

Hot on the heels of the full season upgrade for Chuck, NBC announced today via press release that they have now ordered full seasons for three of their newest TV series. Jason Ritter's The Event gets a full-season order by NBC NBC has given full-season pickups to three of its new Fall 2010-11 series, The Event, Law & Order: Los Angeles and Outsourced. The announcement was made by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.

"We are pleased with the quality of The Event, Law & Order: Los Angeles and Outsourced, and feel they are an important part of helping to re-build our schedule and our studio pipeline," said Bromstad. "We believe in these new series and the creative auspices behind them."

Through October 11, The Event has averaged a 3.0 rating, 7 share in adults 18-49 and 9.1 million viewers overall in "most current" averages from Nielsen Media Research. The Event has generated a 30 percent improvement in the time period versus year-ago "most current" results for NBC in 18-49 rating (with a 3.0 rating vs. a 2.3) and a 47 percent increase in total viewers (9.1 million vs.

Chicago – NBC announced their fall schedule and fans of “Heroes,” “Law & Order,” “Trauma,” and “Mercy” will shed a tear while on-the-bubble shows like “Chuck,” “Parenthood,” and “Community” will return with “Parks and Recreation” coming back later in the season. Most notably, the peacock network filled the now-vacant five hours of programming after “The Jay Leno Show” debacle with eight new fall shows and five more scheduled for midseason.

NBC has called in the starpower to help save the sinking network, bringing in new programs by J.J. Abrams, Jerry Bruckheimer, and David E. Kelley with recognizable TV veterans like Blair Underwood, Jimmy Smits, Laura Innes, and more.

There was talk that the early pickups wouldn’t end with Undercovers over at NBC and the network responded in a big way today. NBC ordered Outsourced, The Event, and Love Bites for the fall lineup.

Single-camera comedy Outsourced centers on “a customer service manager in Kansas city who’s sent to India to train his replacement when his department is outsourced.” The high-octane conspiracy thriller The Event explores multiple points of view with a cast includes star Jason Ritter (Parenthood) and Emmy-winner Željko Ivanek (Damages). Cindy Chupack (Sex and the City) developed the romantic anthology series Love Bites, which stars Becki Newton (Ugly Betty) and Jordana Spiro (My Boys) as single women among a sea of married friends.

NBC picks up The Event, Outsourced and Love Bites NBC has given series pickups for its 2010-11 season to the dramatic thriller The Event, the comedy Outsourced and the romantic anthology series Love Bites.

The announcement was made today by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.

"Each of these three series reflects a unique point of view and distinct style of quality that fits perfectly with NBC's dedication to rebuilding the schedule," said Bromstad. "These series showcase excellent writing and casting, and represent the kind of scripted programming our network and studio are committed to producing."

NBC has given series pickups for its 2010-11 season to the dramatic thriller The Event, the comedy Outsourced and the romantic anthology series Love Bites. They all sound like show that will not make it passed a season but that is just me. The Event sounds kinda cool but the other ones do not appeal to me at all, which they will be the ones to stay while mine will cake out at half a season.

From the file of things labeled "That's Unexpected" comes this news nugget from Dorchester Press, whom we horror fans know as Leisure Books: Dorchester Publishing is thrilled to announce the signing of the Broadway musical option agreement for Leanna Renee Hieber’s 'The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker', a haunting story of love and ghosts in Victorian England.

Mt. Claire Entertainment bought the novel for its musical adaptation, and Hieber, who has innate talent for invoking the Victorian era in her writing, will pen the script. Composing music and lyrics are Kenny Seymour (Broadway credits include music direction for “Memphis” and arrangements for “The Wiz”) and Nicholas Roman Lewis (creative development for “The Alchemist” and “They Call Me La Lupe”), with additional orchestrations and arrangements by Jim Abbott (“Wicked,” “Bombay Dreams,” “Disney’s Tarzan”)

The BBC Asian Network will dedicate a whole day of programming to the celebrated composer, A.R. Rahman on Thursday 14 January. The composer, who has had huge success with his soundtrack for British film Slumdog Millionaire, will be featured across most programmes throughout the day.

A.R. Rahman first came to the attention of Western audiences with his film music for Elizabeth: The Golden Age and stage shows Bombay Dreams and The Lord of the Rings, however, it is for Slumdog Millionaire that the composer has received international acclaim. Since its release in January 2009, he has won several awards, including two Oscars, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and is nominated for two Grammy Awards at the end of this month.

Oscar winner musician A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire) has opened up a shop called .A.R. Rahman Store. on his official website; this online shop presently sells only seven items but promises to expand the inventory to .include exclusive presale tickets, merchandise, DVDs and more.. The Center for the Asian Arts and Media at Columbia College in Chicago has announced that Baayork Lee will direct and choreograph their new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song next August. The production, which will begin as a concert in Washington D.C. in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in collaboration with the U.S.-Asia Institute in May of 2010, will run for one month in Chicago. The show will ultimately make a transfer to Shanghai in the late fall of 2010.

The production features top Asian American talents from Broadway and Hollywood, led by Tony-Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly), who adapted the musical book for the recent Broadway revival, and veteran Broadway director/choreographer Baayork Lee (A Chorus Line). 

Casting has yet to be announced.

Lee made her big stage debut in 1973 when she appeared in Bennett's Seesaw and was featured opposite Tommy Tune.

It was announced today that Marc Kudisch (9 to 5, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Assassins, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Emily Skinner (Jekyll & Hyde, The Full Monty), Daniel Reichard (Jersey Boys), William Michals (Beauty & the Beast, South Pacific), Manu Narayan (Bombay Dreams), Lisa Howard (9 to 5, South Pacific, Spelling Bee), Sarah Jane McMahon, and Bill Daugherty will be among the more than fifteen Broadway stars that will be performing this year in the 6th Annual Broadway Unplugged Concert at The Town Hall on Monday, November 16th at 8 Pm. The concert's musical director, for the sixth consecutive year, will be Ross Patterson. Taking the helm as director will be Scott Coulter.

Manu Narayan (Bombay Dreams on Broadway, subUrbia at Second Stage, The Love Guru starring Mike Myers) will star in the rock and roll vampire musical The Cure, running September 29th-October 11th at the American Theatre of Actors in the upcoming 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Written by Mark Weiser, The Cure will feature direction from Elizabeth Lucas (Wild About Harry, The Last Starfighter, and The View From Here at Nymf), and is produced by The New York Musical Theatre Festival and Samantha Saltzman.

'Om Shanti Om' (2007): Actor Shahrukh Khan is the ultimate showman and 'Om Shanti Om' the perfect showcase for his brand of talent. This campy, retro spoof is directed by Farah Khan, who choreographed the Broadway musical 'Bombay Dreams,' and she brings that same theatrical style to her filmmaking. The first half of the movie is set in the 1970s—and it’s a tribute to the Hindi films of that decade. Struggling actor Om Prakash (played by Shahrukh) falls in love with starlet Shanti (Deepika Padukone in her Bollywood debut)—but fate drives them apart. Fast-forward 30 years and Om has been reincarnated as a huge star with the same first name, and a wannabe actress named Sandhya helps him rectify the past. 'Om Shanti Om' is full of cameos—the title-track dance number alone features appearances by more than 30 Bollywood stars...
