Shane D. Stanger makes his directorial debut with the 2024 film Good Bad Things, starring Danny Kurtzman in the leading role. Kurtzman plays Danny, a graphic designer living in Los Angeles with muscular dystrophy. He co-owns a small marketing firm with best friend and roommate Jason, played by Brett Dier. Their business is struggling financially, so they hope to land a big client by rebranding a popular dating app called Rubi.
At Jason’s urging, Danny reluctantly creates a profile on Rubi to better understand the service, though he’s skeptical anyone will match with him given his disability. To his surprise, he connects with Madi, a photographer portrayed by Jessica Parker Kennedy. As they start dating, Danny discovers new depths of courage by embracing vulnerability in his personal and professional lives.
Good Bad Things promises an intimate story exploring universal themes through Danny’s lived experiences. With Stanger and Kurtzman’s close collaboration,...

If the staccato gallop of Dominican tambora seems especially prevalent lately, it might be because merengue is having a moment. In June, Karol G released “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” which is now vying for song-of-the-summer status. The effervescent smash joins other genre hits, like Bad Bunny’s beachy mambo “Después de la Playa” and Rosalía’s upbeat chart-topper “Despechá” as an example of merengue’s modern crossover upswing. However, these hits are sonically and geographically distant from the genre’s roots in the rural Cibao region of the Dominican Republic,...

Univision says it’s driving full bore into the subscription-streaming sector: The Spanish-language media and broadcast giant plans to launch a paid over-the-top service in 2022 in the U.S. and Latin America alongside an expanded free, ad-supported package.
The company’s subscription VOD service, announced Monday, will be anchored by the content library and intellectual property of Televisa, the Mexican broadcast and TV production stalwart that is merging with Univision in a $4.8 billion deal, along with a slate of 30 originals set to debut in the first year. Univision said it will provide details of the SVOD service, including the name, pricing and launch date, after the Television deal closes (expected to happen later this year).
Univision has global ambitions with SVOD — looking to tap into the nearly 600 million Spanish speakers around the world, according to Pierluigi Gazzolo, president and chief transformation officer. The company is “uniquely positioned to satisfy the...

Tania Dalai celebrated her coming-of-age with a Harry Potter party that looks straight out of the J.K Rowling books— setting the bar for magical quinceañeras. A video was posted on YouTube giving a look into the 15-year-old’s bash that included golden snitches, wands, and robes.
The venue, inspired by the popular book and movie franchise, was set up to look like the Great Hall at Hogwarts with long tables and banners of the four houses at Hogwarts hanging from the ceiling. Sorry, Hermione. Movie posters were customized to have Tania replace Hermione Granger alongside characters Harry Potter and Ron Wesley.
