Clean (2004)

Edit
The scene when Maynard envisions himself taking off his boots and walking through the sprinklers before he actually does it is inspired by a similar scene in 'The Getaway' when Steve McQueen's character envisions himself jumping in the lake before he does it.
The scene when Maynard and Emma are in the diner is an homage to a similar scene in 'Taxi Driver' when Robert De Niro and Jody Foster's characters are in a diner. Both scenes show the female character being berated by the male character for being hopeful and naive, and in both scenes only the female character is eating. The homage goes so far as to the casting choices of Maynard and Emma, Paolo Cascardo and Jessica Gannon respectively, who both look similar to Robert De Niro and Jody Foster, and their wardrobe and hairstyles in the scene.
Obvious film influences on this movie and Nyle Cavazos Garcia's filmmaking style are hard to ignore: 'Taxi Driver', 'Midnight Cowboy', 'Blood Simple', Reservoir Dogs', and 'Boogie Nights' to name a few. Director of Photography Jon Salzman worked with Oscar-winning Cinematographer Roger Deakins on multiple feature films including 'The Big Lebowski', which is also apparent in the lighting and framing of the limousine driving sequences in this movie.
