Oscar-Winner Gabriele Salvatores Shooting ‘Napoli – New York’ From a Federico Fellini Treatment – First Look Image (Exclusive)
Image
Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores (“Mediterraneo”) is back behind the camera on “Napoli – New York,” a period immigration drama based on a story written for the screen by Federico Fellini.

Fellini co-wrote the tale of two Neapolitan kids who embark on a ship to New York to escape Italy’s early postwar poverty with his frequent collaborator Tullio Pinelli, a writer on the Italian maestro’s “La Dolce Vita” and “8 1/2,” as well as other titles.

Italian A-lister Pierfrancesco Favino stars as the chief officer of the ship which the two kids, named Carmine and Celestina, manage to board surreptitiously in the port of Naples, becoming clandestine passengers. The youngsters are on a mission to reach the U.S. where they dream of living with Celestina’s sister, who emigrated to New York two years earlier. Newcomers Dea Lanzaro e Antonio Guerra play the kids. (See first-look image above of Favino with the kids and Salvatores.

'Penny Dreadful' men bring brooding horror to Comic-Con: Live-Blog
Helen McCrory in Frankenstein (2007)
It's been a long day in Ballroom 20. I live-blogged "24." I live-blogged "Under the Dome" by accident. I live-blogged "Community." And I watched thousands of young women squeal over Dylan O'Brien. Now it's time to cap off Comic-Con Thursday with Showtime's "Penny Dreadful." While Eva Green is absent -- Too busy to kick off her 2015 Emmy campaign here? -- we have many of the "Penny Dreadful" men, including creator John Logan, Reeve "Dorian Gray" Carney, Harry "Frankenstein" Treadaway and Josh "Werewolf Guy" Harnett.  Aisha Tyler is moderating. Click through and follow along... 5:58 p.m. "Penny Dreadful" has to follow after the terrific "Hannibal" panel, which was also missing a number of featured stars... Sepinwall live-blogged that one. Oh and we don't really have the "Penny Dreadful" men, because Timothy Dalton isn't here.  6:04 p.m. Great Season 1 sizzle reel. Few people on TV can equal Eva Green when it comes...

10 Second Generation WWE Stars Who Totally Failed
WWE.com

It’s not easy to follow greatness in professional wrestling. For many wrestlers, just making it to WWE is an accomplishment. What about when your dad or mom is somebody that made it big in wrestling and you have to follow in their footsteps? Guys like The Rock, Bret Hart and Randy Orton became bigger stars than anybody in their families, but what about the ones that didn’t get to be as big? There are many of them who fall under that category.

There are some names on here that are the children of some of the biggest names on here. When your dad is that big, how can you even come close to being at that same level? There are few examples in wrestling history where a dad is one of the biggest names ever and his son or daughter is on par with him.

Two...

The Americans Season 2 Finale: To Be Like Us
Second Generation (2003)
In the finale of the first season of The Americans, Elizabeth took a bullet to the abdomen, a wound from which she had finally recovered when season two began. In last night’s second-season finale, multiple bullets flew, but this time neither Elizabeth nor Philip was struck. Instead, three U.S. citizens who, at different points, were working for the Russians — Fred, Larrick, and Jared — got shot and killed, implying that Americans who pledge their allegiances to the Russian flag, even temporarily, as in Larrick’s case, run a high risk of losing their lives. That’s a sober reality Stan Beeman seemed to grasp and one that, based on the orders relayed by Claudia in the episode’s biggest plot twist, Paige Jennings may soon have to confront as well.Claudia’s revelation of Russia’s Second Generation Illegals program — the effort to recruit the American-born offspring of Kgb agents,...

Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys in The Americans (2013)
'The Americans' Season Finale Recap: Spy Kids
Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys in The Americans (2013)
"It sounds like the family dynamic is going to be a real focus." — Keri Russell speaking to Rolling Stone about The Americans, Season Two, October 2013

Who would have thought that nearly eight months and 13 episodes later, this seemingly innocuous sound bite would resonate so much? Don't let that final shot of the Jennings family sitting down to a typical American dinner of chicken, potatoes and veggies fool you – underneath the veneer of smiles and small talk is a family coming apart at the seams.

Pokemon Direct Airing in the Early Morning
A Pokemon-themed Nintendo Direct will be airing tonight in Japan at 8pm. Yes, that means it will be here in the states at 4am Pdt. You can watch it--live or archived--here at Nintendo Direct.

If you're interested in the rate that Nintendo has been revealing information about upcoming Pokemon games, Reddit user menace64 has compiled an interesting chart:

Second Generation

Third Generation

Fourth Generation

Fifth Generation

Sixth Generation

What I like about this chart is that it shows that Nintendo has been more engaged with its fans with this upcoming generation of games.  There have been fewer leaks and more legitimate reveals. These announcements have been regular, with almost a monthly schedule. And not only have these Pokemon been revealed, but we've seen a lot of gameplay footage. Nintendo has been doing a great job this time around at building hype for their upcoming Pokemon games.

If you miss the Direct,...

Exclusive Interview: Now You See Me Director Louis Leterrier
Second generation French filmmaker Louis Leterrier first came onto the American movie scene as part of the wave of Luc Besson directors with The Transporter and its sequel, but his real shining moment was directing the martial arts thriller Unleashed , starring Jet Li and Morgan Freeman, a movie that combined dynamic and intense action with truly heartwarming dramatic moments, not something easy to pull off. In short order, he got the gig to direct the semi-reboot The Incredible Hulk , starring Edward Norton, followed by the remake of Clash of the Titans , both which did well at the box office but had their share of problems ultimately leading to disappointed fans. Now Louis is back with the magic-based heist movie Now You See Me , starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody...

TV on Tap: Lifetime Cancels "Drop Dead Diva," Audra McDonald is a "Good Wife" Rival and "One Life to Live" Finds Its Head Writers
It's time to meet Peter's boyfriend (Colin Ferguson) on Happily Divorced.

News

In a surprising development, Lifetime has cancelled Drop Dead Diva. Deadline speculates, that the decision might have come out of a desire to pursue more "edgy" fare at Lifetime — you know, like The Client List. Wait, does "edgy" mean getting hot male guest-stars undressed under flimsy excuses? That's a pretty compelling argument for Lifetime getting more "edgy." Too bad we won't find out where Drop Dead Diva would go from where it left off.

TNT has ordered a pilot starring Rebecca Romijn and Jon Tenney of The Closer and Major Crimes. King & Maxwell will focus on a pair of former Secret Service agents who become private investigators.

Mad Men and Desperate Housewives alum Mark Moses will appear on Blue Bloods, TV Guide reports. Moses will play a bigoted talk radio host who challenges the police's commitment to protecting the first amendment.

The poster for Saoirse Ronan's latest Byzantium has just been released. It's a vampire movie from Neil Jordan who is no stranger to supernatural beasties (see also: The Company of Wolves, Interview with the Vampire, The Crying Games ... what? There's no other explanation for how indelibly creepy Miranda Richardson is in that movie!)

Question: When will Saoirse Ronan ever be cast as a non-lethal girl again? The ridiculously talented young star (who just turned 18... god, time flies) just keeps playing killers whether literally or metaphorically. Let's review:

You Must Know: Zelda Williams
Vicki Lewis, Zelda Williams, and David Greenman in Checked Out (2012)
Despite all evidence to the contrary (her acting roles, her famous father, her sensationally sardonic personality), Zelda Williams doesn't consider herself funny. But as more and more people catch wind of her delightfully dry and wonderfully offbeat webseries, Checked Out, Zelda will have a tougher time convincing people she funny doesn't run in her family.

Insider.com: What appealed to you about this project?

Zelda Williams: Checked Out used to be called Heinous People and the script was these awful people who work in a Trader Joe's – that just really made me smile. I love this kind of filmmaking because it's ultra-low budget and brings creative people, that didn't have a venue, to the table and gives them a platform for their voice. We shot it in the downstairs of a closed mortuary – it was ridiculous, but it was a blast. I couldn't have asked for a better comedy experience because I've pretty much stayed away so...

China Gears Up To Export Nuclear Technology
Still panicked after the Fukushima disaster? China's not: They're sending nuclear technology to everyone--even Pakistan.

Despite post-Fukushima fears, China is seizing the opportunity to become a nuclear leader. Why waste a prime opportunity missed by wimpier countries?

The country, which is currently the world's largest nuclear power plant builder, is reportedly planning to ramp up its nuclear-generating capacity sixfold by 2020--and it plans to export nuclear technology to countries in Asia including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Pakistan, according to Spero News. What could possibly go wrong?

China doesn't plan on getting so-called third-generation nuclear technology ready on a large scale until 2013. That technology is already used in Japan (not at Fukishima, though), and is purportedly simpler, easier to operate, and less vulnerable to core meltdowns. Unfortunately for China's neighbors, the country is currently exporting its second-generation technology, which is more vulnerable. Second generation reactors are used in the U.

Yes, No, Maybe So: Somewhere
The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette. Second generation auteur Sofia Coppola hasn't failed us yet. Her perceptive ethereal films about delicate girls with faraway looks in their eyes are stunning to behold and deeply felt, too. Here's the trailer to her fourth film Somewhere (2010).

This is one of those cases where I need to water down my expectations lest I wet myself. I love her movies. So I'll divvy it up as to what makes me most excited (yes), most worried (no), and somewhere in between (maybe so) for the appropriate "I Shan't Be Controlled By Marketing" balance.

yes

Coppola understands how to convey both unexpected intimacies (Bob & Charlotte in Lost in Translation) and painful estrangements (usually familial but sometimes spousal as seen in Suicides and Marie-Antoinette) which should serve her tremendously well in the telling of this story of actor/father (Stephen Dorff) and tween daughter (Elle Fanning...

26th Chicago Latino Film Festival Highlights Local, Global Latino Culture
Chicago – Just two weeks after the European Union Film Festival concluded at the Gene Siskel Film Center, another excellent international showcase of world cinema began in the Windy City. The 26th Chicago Latino Film Festival screens over 120 films during its two-week run, highlighting Latino filmmakers and cultures from Latin America, Portugal, Spain and the United States.

The festival is presented by the International Latino Cultural Center, in cooperation with Columbia College Chicago, and runs from Friday, April 16th to Thursday, April 29th. It kicked off last Friday with an Opening Night Gala in the form of a Mexican fiesta, commemorating Mexico’s Bicentennial Independence and Centennial Revolution Anniversary. “Round Trip,” the winner at last year’s Guadalajara Mexican Film Festival, was screened, and its director, Gerardo Tort, was in attendance. Yet there are plenty more first-class festival events in store for moviegoers during this upcoming week.

Watch Amazing ‘Tron Legacy’ Concept Footage
The forthcoming Tron sequel is getting a great deal of exposure at Comic-Con this year, with title, plot outline, and shiny, shiny concept art all being given the big reveal. Primarily, last year’s concept footage was screened again, in 3-D this time, and finally released for everyone to see. Watch it here. It’s incredible stuff.

Meanwhile, the previously-mentioned Tron 2.0 and TR2N monikers have officially been consigned to the recycle bin of development history, with the project now proudly riding out as Tron Legacy.

The original Tron was always a movie I thought would have suited the 3D treatment very nicely, so it is undoubtedly a boost to the anticipation levels surrounding the follow-up that the new movie will be released in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D alike. Disney have also taken the opportunity to issue the following official teaser for the storyline of Tron Legacy.

Comic Con 2009: New Title for 'Tron' Sequel and Footage Shown
While holding a 3-D panel at 2009 Comic Con, Walt Disney Pictures has announced that "Tron 2.0" has been retitled "Tron Legacy". During the presentation, the film's star Jeff Bridges claimed the new title is in reference to the story's theme. Still, he refused to explain in details and stated only, "It's basically a story about a son's search for his father."

During the panel, the mouse house screened a 2-D footage taken from the movie. The footage, which is a key scene to be seen in the beginning of the movie, showed Sam Flynn entering the dilapidated Flynn's Arcade. Making his way through the arcade, he finds an entrance in the wall behind the arcade game and walks into it.

On the occasion, Disney also presented the 3-D footage which was shown at last year's Comic Con. In addition to those footage, the studio also brought some concept images from the production to the panel.

'V' is for Vicious Alien Lizards
The lizards are coming, and we're not talking about Dr. Curt Connors' family reunion.

A remake of the 1980s miniseries V is being developed by ABC. The series is written by The 4400 co-creator/executive producer Scott Peters, who will also executive produce V.

"Whenever I mention V to anybody, they still have a lot of good memories about the original movie and series," Peters told Variety. "It's a science fiction icon and too good to pass up."

The revamped series focuses on "Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son who's got problems. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them -- causing tension within the family."

Though taking significant departures from its predecessor, the new V will pay homage to the original series. One example includes the '80s series' opening with an army of spaceships hovering over Earth's major cities, which will carry over to the updated series.
