"Mermaids" in Germany

I only watched this film, because I'm a fan of Martina Gedeck. Plotwise, this film is very similar to "Mermaids" from ca. 1991 with Cher and Winona Ryder. The main difference is that it plays in Germany and in the present instead of the 1960s. Other than that, the shoe store owner/ mother's boyfriend (Bob Hoskins in "Mermaids") owns a bar in this version (played by Richy Mueller), the mother is not a shoe seller but a hairdresser, again there are two daughters, and again the mother moves the family anytime there's a problem with her relationships or the like. There's zero originality, yet there's no nod to the "Mermaids" movie or the novel on which it was based. I don't think one can really call this an original screenplay. So, it's not a very interesting effort, which is too bad, because Martina Gedeck is still worth seeing - as she is in all of her films. Therefore, I'm still giving this non-original opus five points out of 10.
