Over the decades, Carlos Santana has collaborated with jazz legends (Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter), rock guitarists (Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan), blues greats (Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker), R&b singers (Smokey Robinson, Lauryn Hill), and even country artists (Willie Nelson, Faith Hill). The results were sometimes worldwide hits like “Smooth” (with Rob Thomas) or “Maria Maria” (with Wyclef Jean), but others fell between the cracks and never found the audience they deserved.

Robert Verrall, a pioneering Canadian animator, director and film producer with the National Film Board of Canada, has died. He was 97.
Verrall died in Montreal on Friday from unspecified causes, the Nfb, the country’s publicly-funded filmmaker, said after being in contact with his family.
“Robert Verrall was one of the builders of the Nfb, who possessed a keen eye for great stories and talented creators. Gifted in animation, he built on the foundation put in place by Norman McLaren to attract global renown for the Nfb as a center for animation excellence. In documentary and drama, he oversaw the Nfb’s efforts to establish production units across the country. He was an ally when trailblazers like Kathleen Shannon founded Studio D, the world’s first publicly funded feminist filmmaking studio. Robert truly helped to shape the modern Nfb, and we are deeply grateful for his legacy,” Suzanne Guèvremont, government film commissioner and Nfb chairperson,...

Surviving Beatles members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited for a rare on-stage performance at the O2 Arena in London on Thursday, as the two teamed up to play “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)” and “Helter Skelter.”
The surprise reunion came during the encore of McCartney’s concert. “Should we rock?” McCartney asked Starr after welcoming him to the stage. “Get on your kit lah!”
Following their two-song performance, Starr remarked, “I’m off now but I’ve had a great night, love you all – especially this man.” McCartney added, “It’s fantastic, playing with me old mate, but there comes a time when we’ve got to go home.”
Thursday’s show also featured an appearance from The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, who joined McCartney for a performance of “Get Back.”

Hollywood Squares officially returns in January and will bring a star-studded lineup of guests to entertain viewers and, hopefully, help out contestants.
The popular game show is a variation of tic-tac-toe and features celebrities called upon to help contestants answer questions for an “X” or “O” in their square.
Among those seated in the squares are talk show host Drew Barrymore and The Price Is Right host Drew Carey.
While CBS Mornings star and former NFL player Nate Burleson hosts the returning game show, Barrymore will be the center square throughout the episodes.
And it seems nobody is safe from receiving comedic jabs from various individuals around them.
In a hilarious new teaser for the show, Barrymore and Carey get roasted by fellow celebrity guests.
See Carey and Barrymore get roasted by their Hollywood Squares co-stars
In a new preview of the Hollywood Squares reboot, viewers see some humorous moments from the upcoming game show.

Jim Gaffigan is best known for his comedic antics, whether it's on the stand-up stage or as a myriad of supporting characters in films like "Going the Distance" or shows like "Bob's Burgers." Every now and then, Gaffigan digs into more dramatic territory with films like "Chappaquiddick" and "Light from Light," but you've never seen the comedian in a role that resonates as emotionally as his performance in the upcoming indie "Linoleum."
A selection from the 2022 South by Southwest Film Festival, "Linoleum" finds Gaffigan playing Cameron, an astronomer who once dreamed of being an astronaut but settled for creating and hosting "Above and Beyond," a Bill Nye-esque educational program that isn't exactly rolling in the high ratings, largely thanks to its midnight timeslot. But Cameron is about to get a boost of ambition after his wife (Rhea Seehorn) asks for a divorce, he loses his show to PBS where...

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long had a moving exchange while appearing together on Barrymore’s talk show.
The pair had an emotional reunion on the season three premiere of The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday (12 September).
The former couple – who dated on and off between 2007 and 2010 as well as starring in a number of films together – began by complementing each other’s sense of humour, seemingly completely absorbed in the conversation and forgetting their audience.
“We laughed so much, that was so much a part of our connection,” said Barrymore.
Long agreed and added: “I love that we’ve maintained our love, because I don’t think it’ll ever – from my end, it’ll never go anywhere, I’ll love you always.”
Barrymore was visibly moved to tears, covering her mouth with her hand, before the couple moved to hold each other’s hands.

Famous exes Drew Barrymore and Justin Long reunited and reflected on their relationship. Long appeared on the season three premiere of "The Drew Barrymore Show" on Sept. 12, and the duo took the opportunity to talk about their past relationship and how much they've changed in the years since.
The show shared a clip of Long's appearance on its Twitter account. "I feel like we've been through so much together," Barrymore explained in the video, wiping tears from her eyes. "When we used to talk and FaceTime I was always like, 'You know, I've really grown up, Justin.' I always wanted to prove to you what a different person I was than when we dated."
Long said, "You were the best." Barrymore continued, "We had so much fun but we were more hedonistic. A little more immature. We would get together, we would break up. It was chaos. It was hella fun.

After nearly 30 years in development hell, Bill & Ted Face the Music was finally released last summer. Though it was robbed of a proper theatrical debut, the sci-fi comedy sequel was a huge hit with both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise. Throughout it all, stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have remained close friends. Now, that friendship takes the ultimate challenge with the Porsche Taycan Road Trip.
Friends and Porsche enthusiasts, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter embarked on an epic road trip in Southern California that features a test of nerve, skill and, most profoundly, the new Porsche Taycan Turbo electric sports car. A series of challenges ensue that test both friends to their limits, each on closed roads. The eight-minute film Going the Distance premiered this past week.

We are only two months away from the Oscars, and members of the Academy are hard at work trying to decide who best deserves one of those five nomination slots.
Today, they released their shortlist for Best Original Song which tops out at an impressive 41 songs.
But we can already make an educated guess as to which five will be competition on Oscar night based on who the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards favored, and none of them involve Justin Bieber or Debbie Gibson.
“I See the Light” from “Tangled” earned a Best Song nod from both, as did “If I Rise” from “127 Hours” and “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” from “Burlesque.” Randy Newman’s “We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3″ also seems a lock, since all of Newman’s songs for Disney/Pixar have scored nominations over the years.

As my title suggests, I am a female. Gal, lady, woman, chick, girl. In some ways I could even be considered a girlie girl. I like to shop. I love shoes. Heels specifically. I tend to get cranky if I have a bad hair day and I never go to work without putting on my make up. Any time I’m not at work is a completely different story. But I digress….
I am a girl in most respects. I’ve been told that the one area I’m not like most other females, is in my choice of movies. I don’t care much for the “chick flick”. Romantic comedies can be fun, but if given the choice, I’d go with action or science fiction instead. If I had to pick between watching Pretty Woman or Aliens for all eternity, I’d pick Aliens without thinking twice.

HollywoodNews.com: Proving once again that films aimed at older audiences have theoretically stronger legs than those aimed at teens, The Expendables and “Eat Pray Love” both had strong weekend multipliers and both performed at or above realistic expectations. With all the hub-bub regarding ‘the guy movie vs. the chick flick’, both films posted exceptional opening weekends and both respective marketing teams should be commended. As for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, its frontloaded and underwhelming debut proves that geek cultures is not mainstream culture, and that hardcore geek interest should not be mistaken for mainstream interest. With films like that, the only real victory should be the fact that it got made and released. Anyway, here we go… The Expendables ended the weekend with $35 million, giving it a decent 2.64x weekend multiplier. As mentioned yesterday, this is the massive win that Lionsgate needed to prove that...

Monthly Movie Preview – August 2010
Well, those lazy hazy days of summer are coming to an end. After a lackluster blockbuster season (with a few hits, like Inception, of course) it’s time for studios to make a last ditch effort to earn some serious bank. Sadly, even though it’s clearly yet another ploy for more money, August is filled with some sincere efforts such as Ryan Murphy’s much-anticipated adaptation of Eat Pray Love, even if it will be overshadowed by the indie/geek-fest that is Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World.
Still, let’s be real about this. August is the month where all the crap that was overshadowed by bigger budgets or holiday weekends gets dumped. Think of it as the island for misfit toys of the movie world. But that doesn’t mean there’s no fun to be had with the month. Take a look at...

The August lineup appears to lack the blockbuster potential of May, June and July. The first three months of summer saw the release of guaranteed hits like Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Inception, while August is devoid of a preordained success. That will likely result in a lower overall gross, though at the same time it will add a healthy dose of unpredictability to the equation. On Aug. 6, The Other Guys opens opposite Step Up 3D. While star Will Ferrell has had a rocky track record as of late (Land of the Lost grossed a meager $49.4 million last summer), The Other Guys finds him reunited with frequent collaborator Adam McKay, who directed Ferrell in Anchorman ($85.3 million), Talladega Nights ($148.2 million) and Step Brothers ($100.5 million). The buddy cop comedy sub-genre hasn't exactly lit up the box office lately (Cop Out made $44.9 million earlier this year), though...

After a few quiet weeks, the Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released a bulletin this morning that included ratings for Due Date, The American, Red and a handful of other noteworthy movies. With Todd Phillips' The Hangover currently ranking as the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all-time, it seems logical that his follow-up would be geared towards a similar 17 and over crowd. Phillips' Due Date has been rated R for "language, drug use and sexual content." The Warner Bros. road trip comedy, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis, is set to open Nov. 5 opposite Dreamworks Animation's Megamind. Comic book adaptation Red received a PG-13 rating for "intense sequences of action violence and brief strong language." The action comedy finds a group of retired CIA agents reassembling to strike back against the agency after a hit is put out on them. Directed by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan,...

Fox has officially announced the re-release of James Cameron’s Avatar in 3D and IMAX theaters on August 27.
The “Special Edition” will include an additional eight minutes of footage with “new creatures and action scenes,” according to the press release. Why only eight measly minutes? Because IMAX mandates a maximum runtime of 170 minutes, and Cameron’s blockbuster in December 2009 ran 162 minutes, leaving room for only an extra eight.
Cameron has discussed a relaunch before, and said two scenes edited from the original involved Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) further proving himself to the Na’vi natives and a tribe festival where Tsu’tey gets drunk. In 3D!
Of course, the re-release with extra footage will prompt the late 2010 “special edition” DVD/Blu-ray that Cameron has hinted at in previous interviews. However, it remains to be seen if Fox will ask fans to triple dip by then releasing a third, 3D disc,...

Seriously? Avatar bored me to tears in its first incarnation so I can assure you I won't be seeing this re-release with its oh-so-exciting additional eight minutes. But I guess someone out there will be thrilled by the news that Avatar will be back in theaters with that extra footage, August 27th.
It doesn't seem to be enough that the movie was the highest grossing film of all time; James Cameron really wants to be king of the theater forever and ever, amen. Avatar will be up against Going the Distance, The Last Exorcism, Takers and Centurion (limited release). Gee, do we think it'll hit number one again?
Regardless, I think I have to wash my hair that night.

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration declared ratings for Predators, The Tree of Life and Stone in today's bulletin. While commercials have included the rating for some time now, the MPAA officially announced today that Predators was rated R for "strong creature violence and gore, and pervasive language." Aside from the first, PG-13-rated Alien Vs. Predator, all other Predator movies have been rated R. Predators opens this Friday, July 9, opposite Despicable Me. Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life was awarded a PG-13 rating for "some thematic material." Starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, the secretive project has been in the works for quite some time, though a rating indicates it may finally be moving towards being released. The Tree of Life is currently set to be distributed by Apparition, though the relatively new company has yet to set an official date. Robert DeNiro-...

Thanks to week after week of uninteresting, poorly marketed movies, the box office took a huge hit in the second quarter of 2010, all but erasing the massive gains seen during the first quarter. The situation has been so dire that each of the big six studios experienced decreases in revenue compared to the same quarter last year. Some fared better than others: Paramount Pictures easily led the way and became the first studio this year to cross the $1 billion mark. Overall box office was down around three percent versus second quarter 2009. 1. The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly ratings bulletin this morning, which included ratings for Saw VII 3D and The Girl Who Played with Fire. Following in the footsteps of its six predecessors, Saw VII has been rated R for "sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture, and language." While this appears to live up to the series' gore standards, producers hope to take things a step further with the addition of 3D. This change comes in the wake of decent returns for last year's 3D horror titles The Final Destination and My Bloody Valentine 3-D and as a result of Saw VI's miserable run. Due to lazy advertising and unusually strong competition from Paranormal Activity (as well as natural franchise fatigue), Saw VI had by-far the series' worst performance yet, grossing just $27.7 million. Saw VII currently shares its Oct. 22 release date with...

Amsterdam -- An increasingly upbeat attitude in international exhibition has extended to the concession side of operations.
"Business has been booming this year," said Roger Frazier, staffing a booth on the busy Cinema Expo trade show floor for Cincinnati popcorn-machine vendor Gold Medal Products. "People have a little more money to spend, and they're renovating theaters or building new ones."
That means new popcorn machines, but Frazier's product pitch remains gloriously simple -- even abroad.
"International exhibitors are the same as any others," he said. "You discuss pricing and size of the machines and any add-ons for nachos and such. That's about it."
Paul Panabaker's show booth presentations for 3D vendor MasterImage are more complicated. The Burbank company is using the show to introduce reusable 3D glasses, an option often requested by European customers.
"Most of our glasses are for one-time use, but our new reusable ones do have a pricing advantage against other reusables,...

The Last Airbender, The Expendables and The Last Exorcism all received ratings in this week's bulletin from the Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration. The Last Airbender was rated PG for "fantasy action violence." This was typical for a fantasy movie: prior to Clash of the Titans (2010), the previous eight fantasy releases were all rated PG. However, it was atypical for director M. Night Shyamalan, marking his first PG-rated movie since his 1998 directorial debut Wide Awake, and it was also the latest sign that Last Airbender will likely be more accessible to broad audiences than Mr. Shyamalan's last few features. The Last Airbender opens next Thursday and faces The Twilight Saga: Eclipse over the Fourth of July weekend. Living up to the expectation that it's a serious homage to the action movies of the 1980s, The Expendables received an R rating for "strong action and bloody violence throughout,...

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly bulletin today, which included ratings for Salt, Dinner for Schmucks, Jonah Hex and more. Salt received a PG-13 for "intense sequences of violence and action." This rating seems pretty straightforward as Salt has been sold as an action thriller in the vein of the PG-13 rated Bourne series. Starring Angelina Jolie as a CIA agent forced to go on the run after she's accused of being a Russian spy, Salt debuts July 23 opposite children's book adaptation Ramona and Beezus. Dinner for Schmucks takes the prize for the week's most surprising rating, earning a PG-13 for "sequences of crude and sexual content, some partial nudity and language." The surprise here mainly stems from the presence of Paul Rudd and Zach Galifianakis. Rudd has recently excelled in R-rated comedies like Knocked Up ($148.8 million), I Love You, Man ($71.4 million) and...

Since "South Park" already made the joke, we can go ahead and skip any gags about there being an "infidelity" or "terrible press conference" modes on the latest entry into the most successful video game franchise of all time. Just know that Tiger is back, and all he's doing is playing golf.
The Basics
EA Sports takes a lot of heat for not moving their sports franchises forward enough from year to year, and that argument could be made for the "Tiger Woods PGA Tour" games. They don't evolve very much from year to year, mostly because the game of golf shifts much slower than football or basketball (also, the game pretty much figured out what it was a few iterations ago, and EA is smart enough to not mess with a good thing). But "PGA Tour 11" does throw the focus on team-based competitions like the Ryder Cup (ironically, the...

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly ratings bulletin this morning, which included a rating for upcoming action comedy Knight & Day along with revised ratings for Eat Pray Love and Grease Sing-Along.Knight & Day received a PG-13 rating for "sequences of action violence throughout, and brief strong language." This fits in with most Tom Cruise action movies like the Mission: Impossible series, War of the Worlds, Top Gun, and more, though he has had plenty of R-rated hits as well (Rain Man, The Firm, Jerry Maguire, A Few Good Men). Knight & Day opens on Wed., June 23, and faces ensemble comedy Grown Ups that weekend. After Julia Roberts drama Eat Pray Love was slapped with an R rating last month for "brief strong language," producers elected to protest the rating. The MPAA's Appeals Board (an entirely separate entity from the Classification and Ratings Administration) ultimately overturned the R rating,...

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released its weekly ratings bulletin this morning, which included ratings for The A-Team and Step Up 3-D. The A-Team was rated PG-13 for "intense sequences of action and violence throughout, language and smoking." This rating lines up with similar television show adaptations like S.W.A.T., Charlie's Angels and the Mission: Impossible series. The A-Team opens June 11 opposite another 1980s revival, The Karate Kid. Step Up 3-D received a PG-13 rating for "brief strong language." The first two entries in the Step Up series, also rated PG-13 but in 2D, made $65.3 million and $58 million, respectively. Step Up 3-D debuts Aug. 6, along with the Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg comedy The Other Guys. A number of smaller upcoming releases were also assigned ratings. Countdown to Zero, a Magnolia Pictures documentary about the nuclear arms race, was rated PG for "thematic material,...

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly bulletin this morning, which included new ratings for a handful of anticipated summer releases. Similar to its predecessors, the highly-anticipated Toy Story 3 received a G rating. Only two of Pixar's 11 movies, The Incredibles and Up, have qualified for a PG. Toy Story 3 opens in Disney Digital 3D on June 18, where it will go head-to-head with Western comic book adaptation Jonah Hex. Julia Roberts drama Eat Pray Love was awarded an R rating for "brief strong language," though the bulletin indicates that producers have opted to protest this rating. It's likely that a new edit, sans language, will be resubmitted and awarded a PG-13. Eat Pray Love debuts opposite The Expendables and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on Aug. 13. Director Jon Turtletaub and star Nicolas Cage's latest collaboration, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, was rated PG for "fantasy action violence,...

Hollywoodnews.com: Last week, we brought you the Top 10 Hot Babes of the upcoming summer movie season, so now it’s only right that we turn our attention to Hot Hunks.
There are some names you may be surprised to find missing from this list. You might think, for example, that “Robin Hood” would be a no-brainer, considering the men in tights who’ve graced the silver screen through the years – from Errol Flynn to Kevin Costner with a side of Sean Connery. But Russell Crowe as the latest Robin Hood is a brute and the movie’s more gouging and impaling than dashing and romancing. What’s merry about that, men? You want realism? Well, fine.
Alex Pettyfer
Leonardo DiCaprio is sexy, sure, but watching his “Inception,” we’ll be too worried about our minds being sucked into a vortex of terror and insanity to think of romance.

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly ratings bulletin this morning, which included a rating for the highly anticipated third part of The Twilight Saga. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse received a PG-13 rating for "intense sequences of action and violence, and some sensuality." Both Twilight and New Moon were PG-13 as well, but for slightly different, and somewhat telling, reasons: Twilight garnered its rating due to "some violence and a scene of sensuality," while New Moon earned it for "some violence and action." Confirming what the most recent trailer suggested, Eclipse's rating indicates that the action quotient has been ramped up compared to the first two movies. It appears that Eclipse's marketing will try to build on this in order to attract action-seeking males who have been unmoved by Edward and Bella's love story up to this point. At the very least, more action...

When it comes to the mix of movies being offered up, not much has changed since we previewed Summer 2010 blockbusters back in September 2009. The season is still packed with sequels, remakes, comic book adaptations, and 3-D.
Meaning, fans of action/adventure movies (11), comedies (8), and chick flicks (9) are in luck, as are parents looking for a way to entertain the kids (10). But the pickings are slim for horror fans (3) and those looking for some summer drama (6) or thrilling intrigue (5). Check 'em all out in our 2010 Summer Movie Guide.

Before anyone mentions it in the comments, yes, the summer doesn't officially begin until June 21. But when it comes to the Summer Movie Season it begins when the first big blockbuster shows its face and this year that makes May 7 the official start of Summer with Paramount's release of Iron Man 2 (5/7), which is only one of this summer's sequels sure to challenge the box-office records, but is one of this summer's sequels your most anticipated movie?
Other sequels include Rec 2 (7/9), Sex and the City 2 (5/27), Shrek Forever After (5/21), Step Up 3D (8/6), Toy Story 3 (6/18) and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (6/30). There's also the prequel/reboot Predators (7/9) and The Karate Kid (6/11) and Piranha 3D (8/27) remakes.

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly ratings bulletin this morning, which included new ratings for Inception, Killers, The Cabin in the Woods and Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2. Inception, director Christopher Nolan's follow-up to The Dark Knight, received a PG-13 rating for "sequences of violence and action throughout." Written by Nolan based off his own original idea, military-like secrecy has thus far surrounded the project. Based on information available, the plot follows a team led by Leonardo DiCaprio that specializes in infiltrating people's dreams to steal their ideas. Also featuring Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger and Michael Caine, Inception opens in regular theaters and IMAX on July 16. Action comedy Killers has been rated PG-13 for "violent action, sexual material and language." The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration was busy this week, issuing ratings for five upcoming nationwide releases in their Wednesday morning bulletin. A Nightmare on Elm Street, opening next Friday, received an R rating for "strong bloody horror violence, disturbing images, terror and language." Despite the trend towards PG-13 horror movies, horror remakes like Friday the 13th, Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have all kept their originals' gruesome natures intact, and it appears the Nightmare on Elm Street remake will do the same. The movie features Jackie Earle Haley as the famous Freddie Krueger, while Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker and Kellan Lutz play his potential victims. Predictably, Sex and the City 2 is rated R for "some strong sexual content and language," though it's missing the "graphic nudity" found in the first Sex and the City's rating. Sex and the City...

Gilligan Washes Ashore at Warner Bros.: In a move I have a hard time believing will ever actually make it to the big screen, "Gilligan's Island" is said to be in development for a feature film adaptation at Warner Bros. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are onboard to produce for Atlas, with Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs) penning the screenplay.
"Gilligan's Island" last aired in 1967 and starred Bob Denver as the clumsy title character and was centered on the misadventures of seven castaways on an uncharted and uninhabited island in the Pacific. The show ended with the castaways still stranded, and while the idea for the film is being kept quiet, it isn't as if they have very many avenues to explore. A man has been arrested on suspicion of breaking into actor Jason Priestley's Los Angeles home. Police were called to the former "Beverly Hills, 90210" star's Toluca Lake neighborhood on Monday night, February 22 after receiving reports of a series of burglaries in the area. The suspect is reported to have broken into Priestley's home but did not take anything from his property, according to TMZ.com.
Items stolen from several other homes in the neighborhood were recovered and the male, who has yet to be identified, is currently being held in custody. It is not known whether Priestley was home during the incident.
Jason Priestley, who is well known for his portrayal of Brandon Walsh in "Beverly Hills, 90210", debuted his acting career in 1989 TV series "Sister Kate". Beside playing in small screen, he has also starred in some movies included "Darkness Falling", "Calendar Girl" and "Going the Distance".

One month, 280 films and 70,000 words later, my guide to the films of 2010 is now complete. I hope you've enjoyed reading it all - it's been utterly exhausting but an ultimately rewarding venture I've been single-handedly pulling together since early December. If you have liked it, my only request is that you help spread the word about it now that it's all done.
If you're a fellow blogger or site owner, please give it a plug on your site. If you're a reader, give it a mention on Facebook, Twitter or other online places you might venture. A lot of effort went into this, the greatest reward so far has been seeing it talked about and hearing your reactions. I'm glad many of you have gotten a lot of use out of the previous pages, so I hope you enjoy this final part:

St. Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold
Opens: 2010
Cast: Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, David Tennant, Gemma Arterton, Talulah Riley
Director: Oliver Parker, Barnaby Thompson
Summary: A rollercoaster-style treasure hunt for the legendary Fritton’s Gold ensues as the feisty and ever-resourceful schoolgirls of St Trinian’s face their most fearsome establishment rivals yet - the villainous Pomfrey and his sidekicks from the women-hating secret society known as AD1.
Analysis: While it didn't travel much beyond the UK, 2007's reboot of the "St Trinian's" franchise nearly doubled its £7 million production budget in sales in the UK alone - making it one of the top grossing independent British films of the past decade. Reviews were decidedly mixed but generally pretty weak at the time, so the greenlighting of a sequel surprised quite a few.
Despite a critical drubbing, the core audience of young British teenage girls seemed to be satisfied by...

Shanghai
Opens: 2010
Cast: John Cusack, Gong Li, Ken Watanabe, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chow Yun-Fat
Director: Mikael Hafstrom
Summary: In the months leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, an American man arrives in Shanghai to find his friend recently murdered. In investigating his friend's death, he stumbles upon a secret the United States government has been keeping and falls in love in the process.
Analysis: After being granted permission to shoot in the Chinese city, the $10 million production found its permit quickly being revoked by the Government who expressed concerns about the script. The result is Bangkok and the United Kingdom standing in for the real Shanghai which seems kind of against the entire point.
Cusack himself has emphatically endorsed the project in interviews, calling it a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity", but being stuck at the cash-strapped Weinstein Company means that its release plans are unsure beyond a vague promise of a limited bow around Easter.

Director: Jacques Audiard
Summary: Sent to prison, Malik El Djebena falls under the sway of a group of Corsicans who enforce their rule in the prison. As the 'missions' go by, he toughens himself and wins their confidence but uses his intelligence to discreetly develop his own network.
Analysis: Finally scoring a limited release in the Us in February, Jacques Audiard's violent and hard-edged prison drama won the Grand Prix at Cannes, scored Best Film at the London Film Festival, and is already the hotly tipped favourite to take the Oscar for Best Foreign Film late next month.
Reviews have been stellar around the world for the film which quickly became the most universally admired entry in the often hotly contentious first week of Cannes back in May. From a breakout performance by Tahar Rahim,...

Mother and Child
Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not...
