Well Written, Well Acted, and True to Life

I was fortunate enough to see a test screening of this movie in North Dakota. I was very impressed with what I saw. Too often in the past, Indians have been wrongly portrayed in cinema. We are either seen as a drunk who begs for money, or as this noble mystic or shaman who can solve all the world's answers with one ceremony.

It is refreshing to see a filmmaker who portrays indians as they should be, as PEOPLE. People with dreams and ideas and struggles and hopes and feelings. Just like everyone else. We are human. We want to live the American dream, we worry about relationships, we have to deal with tragedies, we have issues, like everyone else

This film was able to bring out the human element in the Indian community, something that as been sorely missing in previous cinematic attempts. A fine film. Anyone who loves good cinema, should check this movie out.

    Truly wonderful heart touching film

This is the most wonderful group of actors and actresses. Such giving of themselves on and off film. The potential of this group is just beginning. So much talent, energy and love. Watch them - their futures are so bright!!! Best wishes, love and success to you all. KGL

    Huzzah!

Finally a film that doesn't stick to a stereotype! 'This Thing Life' is an excellent example of today's American Indian culture: a distinct people with a rich heritage living a thoroughly modern life- something that hasn't often been well represented in the media. The cast of 'This Thing Life' portrayed that beautifully. The actors/actresses- lead and supporting alike- were perfectly casted and blended together for a genuine feeling of on-screen closeness.

This is a well written, directed and presented film that needs to be seen. Huzzah!

A movie to share with family and friends.

My viewing of American Indian Graffiti was at the Comanche Film Festival in Lawton, OK. My preconceived opinions were mixed because I heard it was good and I heard it was an obvious first movie. While viewing and afterward, I was only concerned with the strength of the characters. The movie was deeply emotional if you allow yourself to be absorbed by these well-played roles. I am Native American, but I see this movie as relating to any people. It covers the generation gap with the part of the story about being young and the commencement into life after school. It also covers the rebirth that people can find in a later stage of life through the lives of children. The importance of friendship and family was addressed through realistic issues and romantic hardships were depicted as well. Although this may be a "low-budget" movie, I don't see that as any concern for enjoying the film. The production of the movie was so well done that it allowed the story to really shine through. I give my congratulations to all the people involved with the making of this movie. It is a film I would like to share with friends and family alike.

    Finally

Saw this movie at a test screening. Finally, a movie that shows Native Americans in a contemporary setting. there were some sound problems, but overall a wonderful experience. If you liked Smoke Signals, you will like this film. The movie is 4 stories that go back and forth and at some points over lap. The movie opens in a cemetery where two girls, have fallen asleep. The other story is about a friendship between a Mechanic and a little girl. and the 3rd story is about an artist, who has lost his inspiration. I felt the strongest story was one about the mechanic. It could be a movie all by its self. I enjoyed this movie and cant wait to see what they will do next.

The film makes didn't own a video camera or a computer to edit on when the started production. The borrowed the camera, a Canon XL1, and had enough money to by a tower but did have money for a monitor. They found one in Steven Paul Judd's roommate's closet from a computer he had back in 1989. The screen was blury, but was suitable to use to edit on.
