When the world is falling apart, sometimes the only thing left to do is laugh - these films get it.
I saw Bong Joon-ho’s new movie over the weekend, “Mickey 17,” which can only be described as a sci-fi black comedy. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but it was one of the most visually beautiful movies I’ve ever seen. If you want to check it out, definitely try to see it in theaters, as the small screen will not do this movie justice. Robert Pattinson is excellent as Mickey Barnes – who has one job: die. Again and again. As an ‘expendable’ on a deep-space colonization mission, he’s used to being replaced — until he refuses to go quietly, sparking a darkly comedic showdown between a man who won’t stay dead and the system that keeps trying to kill him. It’s a really great sci-fi premise,...

Mike Judge is known for creating some of the most iconic comedy shows of the past few decades, including Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill, as well as hit comedy films like Office Space and Idiocracy. But we finally know the fate of his latest project, In the Know, and it won't have similar success — the Peacock show has been cancelled by the streaming service after a single season, according to Deadline. The series was Peacock's first attempt at an adult animation show, but a second season apparently won't be happening.

CBS ordered a pilot for new multi-cam show Zarna, the network announced Tuesday.
The show will star stand-up comedian Zarna Garg as “a proud immigrant woman who’s been raising her American born kids on Indian values.” But, the logline continues, “now that they’re getting older, it’s time for her to focus on her own American dream.”
Garg also serves as writer and executive producer, with Darlene Hunt as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Mindy Kaling and Jessica Kumai Scott will also executive produce via Kaling International, along with Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley and Mike Stein of Hartbeat. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
Garg released an Amazon comedy special, One in a Billion, in 2023. She also appeared as herself in this year’s Jonathan Groff- and Karan Soni-led A Nice Indian Boy. She has nearly one million followers on TikTok, where she’s known for her comedy sketches.

Without getting too political here, it’s easy to point out the similarities to Mike Judge’s Idiocracy and some of our current society. Look, there’s a reason it was re-released ahead of the 2016 election. So do we really need a sequel? Luke Wilson thinks so!
Luke Wilson recently told Business Insider that he is constantly pitching the idea of an Idiocracy sequel to Mike Judge. “I always call Mike and tell him. He’s always busy and always working on a script. But I’ve always told him, how about me and Terry Crews and Dax Shepard coming back to the present day. We see Terry’s Camacho character become president, Dax’s character runs a movie studio. I’m always pitching that to Mike. He gets a kick out of it.”

In the ever-changing world of Hollywood sequels, one film stands out for its star and fans: Mike Judge’s 2006 satirical comedy “Idiocracy.” Actor Luke Wilson has expressed his wish to revisit the film, which has gained unexpected resonance in today’s culture. He has been aggressively presenting sequel ideas to Judge.
Although “Idiocracy” initially bombed at the box office, earning less than $1 million after 20th Century Fox removed it from wide release, it has become a cult favorite. The plot centers on Private Joe Bauers, played by Wilson, who wakes up 500 years in the future to discover he is the brightest person alive. According to Wilson, there is still plenty to explore in this cosmos.

Nearly two decades later, Luke Wilson is surprised by the following his cult satirical comedy Idiocracy (2005) still has.
The actor recently admitted that he’s “always pitching” co-writer/director Mike Judge on a sequel to the film, which starred him and Maya Rudolph as two people mistakenly left in cryosleep for 500 years, awaken in an era when the average human intelligence has decreased so much that Wilson’s Private Joe Bowers is now the smartest man in the world.

Of all the comedy subgenres, the political comedy is probably the hardest to nail down. What, exactly, constitutes a political comedy? Is it a movie set in the world of politics? It is just a movie that has political commentary? And what’s the difference between a political comedy and a political satire? Is one meaner in its humor than the other?
In order to make a list of the 20 best political comedies, I had to figure out answers to these questions. And that meant making some tough choices, like any good elected official. And what I decided was to be pretty strict in my definition of what counts. There are so many good films that are often called political comedies — Four Lions, Borat, numerous war movies — but for my purposes, a film had to feature politicians, world leaders or at the very least some folks who were running for something,...

Once there was a time when movies could crash and burn and still overcome their slow start to amass a cult following. The Shawshank Redemption sits atop the IMDb Top 250 Movies list, indisputably the crowd favorite of the internet. That isn't a shocker, it's been near the top spot for decades, but what is remarkable is that audiences only discovered it years afterward in the form of VHS copies and bad edits airing on TNT at 1 Am. Many highly-esteemed movies, whether Citizen Kane (often cited as the best movie of all time), Idiocracy, American History X, Brazil, The Big Lebowski, or American Psycho, disappointed at launch. Want to predict which films will ultimately leave an indelible imprint on pop culture ten years from now and which ones will fade into oblivion? Good luck. Leave the box office tallies to the bean counters. It means nothing.

When done right, sci-fi and comedy can be a fantastic genre pairing, fusing intriguing, mind-bending concepts with riotous humor. Movies like Back to the Future, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Idiocracy do it fantastically well. Sci-fi comedy TV shows are a little less common, and probably vary more in their quality, but there are still plenty of them for fans to dive into.

Idiocracy may appear as a raunchy, ridiculous box office bomb at first, but the 2006 classic has endured a lasting legacy over time thanks to its unexpectedly prophetic political commentary. Imagine, if you will, a version of the United States that is on the brink of total collapse. A country that is plagued by egregious misinformation, unreasonable politicians, and rampant product placement. You'll find that world by tuning into your local news station, but if you're looking for something a lot more lighthearted and funny, you might want to watch Idiocracy instead.

Idiocracy's bizarre predictions include a future where society becomes too stupid to survive, with a world covered in trash and ruled by idiots. The film's portrayal of a stagnant and declining society is eerily similar to today's reality, making it a cult classic. Idiocracy's humor comes from its satirical take on various aspects of society, including the media, politics, and consumerism, with many brands and logos being used for comedic effect.
Despite Idiocracy having been released nearly two decades ago, rewatching it today still highlights some of the fun hidden details about the comedy like the Crocs. 2006's Idiocracy became a cult classic when it predicted one of the bleakest futures for humanity society simply becoming too stupid to keep going. Luke Wilson wants to make an Idiocracy sequel with Mike Judge. Idiocracy's future has become closer to reality in the past decade. The film portrays a society that has let the bar drop, with intelligence discouraged and infrastructure collapsing.
Luke Wilson has revealed he has an idea for a sequel to his 2006 comedy Idiocracy, and he has been trying to get director Mike Judge to make it. Beavis and Butt-Head creator Judge has directed only four films in his career, but only the well established franchise offering of Beavis and Butt-Head Do America was truly financially successful during its initial theatrical run. Unfrosted ranked in Netflix's Top 10, but it's not the first of its kind. Jerry Seinfeld co-wrote and directed Unfrosted, but reviews are divided. There are other movies like Wonka, Dodgeball, and Idiocracy that do a better job at mixing comedy with history.

However, despite Seinfeld's talent as a writer and comedian, Unfrosted has received many divided reviews from critics and audiences alike. While Unfrosted...

Norwegian broadcaster Nrk has excelled in recent years at bringing bold and thought-provoking shows to the world. After their latest Canneseries winners “Power Play” (2023), “Afterglow” (2022), “Countrymen” (2021) and “State of Happiness” (2018), their latest bet “Dumbsday” (“Dummedag”) has its international premiere April 8 in the French TV festival’s main competition. It first aired on the Norwegian pubcaster Nov. 2, 2023.
The 10 x 30-minute show described by Variety as “‘Idiocracy’ meets ‘Day of the Dead’ is handled worldwide by Belgium-based Primitives which recently closed multi-territory deals in Europe on Nrk’s other comedy show, “Cammo”.
“We pride ourselves on seeking out distinctive formats and programming which will translate well across the international landscape,” said Primitives’ sales and acquisition manager Emma Gosling.

Athletes like Terry Crews, John Cena, and Dave Bautista successfully transitioned from their sports careers to become popular movie stars. Former NFL player Jim Brown left football at the height of his career to pursue acting, showcasing his talent and star power. Chuck Norris, known for his martial arts skills, used his background in the sport to become a successful action star in movies like The Delta Force.
Becoming a professional sports star takes an incredible amount of determination, effort, and time, and to follow up this achievement with a successful career as an actor shows real talent and versatility. There were some athletes turned actors who utilized their sports skills for a career in movies and television, such as Chuck Norris, who brought his martial arts talent to a career as an action star. While others moved away from their former profession entirely to pursue a career in comedy or dramatic roles.

Mike Judge is back in the world of adult animation with In the Know - an entirely unique new series that is a one-half sitcom and one-half interview series. Anybody familiar with adult-oriented comedy will likely be familiar with Mike Judge. Be it cult-classic feature films like Office Space and Idiocracy or legendary animated shows like King of the Hill and Beavis and Butthead, Judge's career as a comedic writer cannot be understated. It sure helps that Judge will be reuniting with his Silicon Valley partner Zach Woods for this all-new and unique animated show.

"On air!" Peacock has revealed an official trailer for a streaming series debuting later in January called In The Know, a fun riff on NPR office life. It's co-created by Brandon Gardner, Zach Woods, and comedy mastermind Mike Judge. This public radio parody follows the making of NPR's fictional "third most popular host" Lauren Caspian's radio program, where he conducts in-depth interviews with special guests – including Kaia Gerber, Ken Burns, Finn Wolfhard, Norah Jones, Mike Tyson, Hugh Laurie, Jorge Masvisdal, and more. "He's a well-meaning, hypocritical nimrod, just like you and me. He's also a stop motion puppet." The show features stop-motion animation from ShadowMachine (the same place that also made Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio) and a voice cast featuring Zach Woods as Lauren, Charlie Bushnell, J. Smith-Cameron, Mike Judge, Caitlin Reilly, & Carl Tart. The cleverest part are the interviews with real people spliced with all the other antics.

The star-studded cast of Horizon: An American Saga, including Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington, brings immense talent to the movie. Kevin Costner's performance in the Western will be enhanced by acting alongside his award-winning and experienced castmates. The cast's experience in dramatic Westerns ensures that Costner's character will fit seamlessly into the fully-realized Western universe of Horizon: An American Saga.
Oscar-winner Kevin Costner will direct and star in the upcoming two-part western Horizon: An American Saga, but his character is not the most exciting element of the much-anticipated drama. The epic Western has generated headlines due to Costner's unconventional release plan and the controversy surrounding Costner's exit from the hit drama Yellowstone to work on the passion project, but there are still fairly few details available. Science fiction movies have often used satire and social commentary to explore real-world issues through metaphors and allegories. Movies like Idiocracy, Sorry to Bother You, and Galaxy Quest have successfully satirized topics such as anti-intellectualism, the class system, and the science fiction genre itself. Films like Starship Troopers and RoboCop have effectively used the sci-fi genre to critique concepts like warfare, authoritarianism, corporate greed, and the loss of humanity.
From RoboCop to They Live, some of the greatest science fiction movies ever made have used their sci-fi tropes as a vehicle for biting satire and social commentary. The science fiction genre has always used speculative scenarios and invented settings to reflect the real world. Sci-fi stories allow writers to use metaphors and allegories to explore real-world issues. "Idiocracy" is a cult classic comedy that satirizes the decline of human intelligence and the state of the United States in 2006. The film was initially met with lukewarm praise but quickly gained a cult following, with subsequent viewings revealing hidden details and jokes. Although "Idiocracy" is not currently available to stream on major services, it can be rented or purchased online through platforms like Apple TV, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Vudu, DirecTV, and AMC Theaters On Demand.
As the mid-2000s cult classic becomes more and more prophetic with each passing year, interest in watching the Mike Judge comedy Idiocracy on streaming gets higher. Released in 2006, the film follows an average Joe (Luke Wilson) who takes part in a military experiment that is supposed to put him in stasis for a year. The 2000s were a great time for science fiction. Thanks to The Matrix closing out the 90s, studios were more willing to give the green light to stories about science gone awry, leading to favorites such as A.I. Movie dystopias often reflect real-world fears, portraying a world eerily close to our own, with advanced technology, political tensions, and societal changes. Films like V For Vendetta and 1984 explore the dangers of governments gaining excessive control, manipulating truth, and erasing history. Other movies, such as The Purge and The Platform, depict societies where violence, limited resources, and greed drive the worst in humanity.
Movie dystopias often play on real-world fears, so while some films in the dystopia category feel fantastical, others feel eerily close to reality. Technology is currently advancing at a rapid rate. At the same time, governments around the world are struggling to stay ahead of financial collapse and gaining the support of their communities as the divide between political parties grows ever wider. These things are also common in dystopian media and create a foundation for the new world they depict.

The character of Roberto, the homicidal robot, first appeared on the "Futurama" episode "Mother's Day", although he would become more of a star in the following season's "Insane in the Mainframe". Roberto, played by the amazing Dave Herman, was a vicious criminal often frustrated that he was programmed to be as violent as he was. He had a penchant for stabbing, and rarely spent much time outside of robot prisons and/or mental asylums. Roberto once forced Bender (John Dimaggio) and Fry (Billy West) to help him with a bank robbery, broke into Planet Express to take the main characters hostage, and escaped from an asylum by wearing the robotic skin of his doctor. "Don't call me crazy!" he would yell, "I'm just not user-friendly!" His parole officer once ordered Roberto to get an upgrade, otherwise, he wouldn't get back his stabbin' knife.
Roberto eventually even had a catchphrase of sorts.

From Turning Red to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, some of the greatest movies of the 21st century bombed at the box office. Whether poor box office results are due to unclear marketing, a bad release date, or a global pandemic, some cult classics and widely celebrated films fail to find an audience in theaters. These 30 films are prime examples that the box office isn’t the final judge of what makes a great film, and sometimes a good movie takes decades to discover.
As theaters and streaming services fight for the primary platform for movie releases, some terrific movies may lose recognition in one format yet gain an audience in the other. This list compiles 30 films from 2000 onward that had disappointing box office results or failed to meet their production and marketing costs. Movies like Children of Men and Idiocracy prove that box office revenue does not reflect a film’s greatness.

Just because a movie in development has an inventive concept doesn't always mean that it'll end up being as great as it sounds. That's generally the case for a lot of big-budget films, and whether it's due to a lackluster script or studio interference, some films are the epitome of a wasted opportunity. In fact, Redditors have jumped at the chance to debate poorly executed movies that had potentially brilliant concepts.
Whether it's a crossover monster movie, a sci-fi flick where time is currency, or one of the first-ever films about multiverses, it seemed almost impossible for these movies to fail. However, even though some of them had giant box office grosses (though others were infamous bombs), they left audiences totally dissatisfied. However, some Redditors have extremely hot takes too, believing that the most universally acclaimed movies of all time had amazing concepts that were executed terribly.

Although Norbit was full of controversial characters, it did have several talented stars among its cast list. Released in 2007, the movie follows the life of Norbit Rice, a mild-mannered man who is married to an abusive woman. While Norbit wants to end their marriage, he soon finds himself struggling to leave after he discovers his wife's family attempting to scam his childhood friend out of her business. The movie was seen to gross over $159 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), but wasn't received well by critics, who heavily criticized the movie for perpetuating racial stereotypes and misogynistic ideals (leading to a 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes).
Given that the cast had an array of talented stars, such as Thandiwe Newton and Cuba Gooding Jr., it was hugely disappointing to see that the script didn't give them the opportunity to show the best of their abilities.

The House of Representin’ was reopened at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, as Terry Crews resurrected one of his most famous roles, President Camacho from the cult comedy “Idiocracy,” to announce a party for a fake presidential campaign in 2024.
Back in 2006, Crews appeared in Mike Judge’s comedy about Joe Bauers, an Army corporal deemed the “most average person in the military,” whom along with a sex worker named Rita are selected for a military cryogenic experiment.
When the experiment is forgotten about, the two wake up in the year 2534, where the human race has dumbed itself down to the point that society has collapsed into a barely functioning dystopia on the verge of collapse. Despite his massive popularity from "Beavis and Butt-Head," "King of the Hill," "Office Space," and the disturbingly relevant "Idiocracy," the Mike Judge comedy flick "Extract" doesn't get talked about as much as it deserves. Written and directed by Judge, "Extract" is the story of Joel Reynold (Jason Bateman), the owner of a factory that specializes in the production of flavor extracts. On the surface, Joel seems to have a perfect life, but in reality, it's all a facade.
Joel's wife Suzie (Kristen Wiig) hasn't desired him sexually in quite some time, and rather than actually talk about their problems or see a sex therapist, Joel hatches up a ridiculous plan to get her to cheat on him, thereby removing any guilt he might have about starting an affair with his employee, Cindy (Mila Kunis). Of course, since this is a Mike Judge film, there's always an added level of ridiculousness,...

Funnyman and animation legend Mike Judge is currently basking in the successful glow of both "Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe" and the titular characters' revival series on Paramount+. This has plenty wondering about the status of the "Office Space," "Idiocracy," and "Silicon Valley" creator's other landmark animation series, "King of the Hill." Created with Greg Daniels, the hilarious animated sitcom about the Hill family in Arlen, Texas enjoyed 13 seasons and 259 episodes, but fans are still thirsting for more. In March of 2021, Judge had revealed that a "King of the Hill" revival was in the works, but there hasn't been much movement ever since.
Many assumed that the show's original station, Fox, would be the ones to bring the series back to life, but thanks to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, we can officially count Fox out of the running. "That's not going to be with Fox," said Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn.

Thirty years ago, an obscure Texas filmmaker named Mike Judge created the animated short Frog Baseball, in which two heavy metal-obsessed teenagers named Beavis and Butt-Head brutalize an amphibian with a baseball bat. Beavis and Butt-Head, which crammed in seven seasons between 1993 and 1997, held a funhouse mirror up to the MTV audience, as the...
