To celebrate the release of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars available on Blu-Ray from 24th March, we are giving away Blu-Rays to 2 lucky winners!

The mini-series Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars reunites the whole cast and crew of Farscape for a further 182 minutes. The mini-series ties up all the loose ends left after the abrupt cancellation of Farscape – from a looming war between the alien factions, the Peacekeepers and the Scarrans, to John and Aeryn’s efforts to have a child, to the fate of the rest of the crew resided on the spaceship Moya alongside Crichton and Aery.

Running from 1999 to 2003 Farscape was abruptly cancelled after Season 4 – having ended with a “To Be Continued” tag. After fan uproar, series creator Rockne S. O’Bannon and executive producer Bria Henson worked tirelessly for two years to get funding to tie up the loose ends in Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.

Ben Browder Dishes on a 'Farscape' Sequel Amid Anniversary Marathon
Image
For Farscape's anniversary this year, Shout! TV will be re-airing the Farscape 25th Anniversary Marathon on March 19th, and Gigi Edgley will be doing a live watch-along on Shout! TV’s YouTube and Twitch channels on March 18th. Additionally, Shout! Studios is running special discounts on Farscape: The Complete Series on Fandango At Home and Apple in celebration of the anniversary. To celebrate with them, MovieWeb is re-running this exclusive interview with Farscape star and sci-fi legend, Ben Browder.

We live in an era where aliens, intergalactic travel, and superpowers are accepted in mainstream blockbusters, but this is honestly a somewhat recent phenomenon. Aside from Star Wars and Amblin Entertainment films, prior to the '90s (and the advent of CGI and digital VFX), sci-fi was generally relegated to B-Movie status, with most 'serious' filmmakers and actors unfortunately avoiding the genre as much as they could. With the MCU,...

Stargate Sg-1's Original Plans For Vala, According To Claudia Black
Image
Following its 10th season in 2007, "Stargate Sg-1" was cancelled by the Sci-Fi channel. A 10-season run is impressive, though, especially considering "Sg-1" was almost axed after season 8 to make way for another series. By season 8, star Richard Dean Anderson had decided to step away from his role as Jack O'Neill on "Sg-1," and a new series seemed like the way to go in his absence. A never-realized spin-off series, entitled "Stargate Command," would have seen Ben Browder's Colonel Cameron Mitchell and Beau Bridges' Major General Hank Landry lead an all-new show that incorporated elements of the original. Ultimately, however, the decision was made to continue with "Sg-1," and ideas for "Command" were integrated into the show's final two seasons. But this wouldn't be the first time "Sg-1" writers pivoted from their original plans.

Throughout the series' 10-year run, there were multiple changes and last-minute decisions made that altered the course of the show.

10 Shows That Tried (& Failed) to Be the Next Star Trek
Image
When Gene Roddenberry first created Star Trek, The Original Series was not a hit. It wasn't until the show hit syndication that it found a second life and spawned two new waves of series and a massive feature film franchise. Since then, many other producers and storytellers have tried to create the next Star Trek, but they were doomed to fail. Some haven't aged well and never made it beyond a single season. Others were unquestionably successful shows, running for more than 100 episodes, spawning spinoffs and companion films.

Though some of these shows have extremely passionate fans, none of them reached the heights that Star Trek did nor are they as bankable a storytelling universe. In its sixth decade, Star Trek is likely Paramount's most profitable franchise and the studio continues to develop new series and films set in that universe. While every series has its merits and is beloved by some fans,...

One Of The Best Space Shows Of The 1990s Added A Genius Twist To An Overused Sci-Fi Trope
Image
Certain sci-fi tropes can sometimes make the coming events of space operas easy to predict, but one of the best shows within the genre from the 1990s found a way to always keep its audience guessing. Overused sci-fi tropes aren't necessarily a bad thing to include in the formula of a TV show, as they can make the overall project feel more familiar and therefore easier to watch. However, it's always a refreshing change when a show manages to subvert expectations.

Beginning in 1999, Farscape ran for four seasons before ending in 2003. Although it was canceled, the Farscape cast reunited one last time to make Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars in 2004, so the saga could reach a more satisfying conclusion. The Syfy show pushed the boundaries of what was possible for a space opera and left a lasting legacy for all space operas that followed. In fact, there is one sci-fi trope...

This 4-Season Space Show Does 1 Thing Better Than All Sci-Fi Movies Ive Ever Seen
Image
Sci-fi movies and TV shows can't avoid the fact that they all borrow from the same pool of tropes, but there's one show in particular that I think takes a huge hallmark of the genre and uses it in a totally different way. It would be a lie to say sci-fi isn't my favorite genre, so I'm incredibly familiar with all the trends and storytelling devices that arise in the various movies and TV shows in the category. Whenever I notice a sci-fi property being particularly original, it makes me enjoy it even more.

I find a certain comfort when enjoying overused sci-fi tropes in a story, but I also love it when a TV show or movie makes a concerted effort to freshen things up. Even some of the greatest sci-fi franchises of all time don't push the genre's conventions too far, but the overall quality of the production...

Resident Alien 4 Not Happening Doesn't Necessarily Mean The Story Is Over (& 2 Other Shows Prove It)
Image
Resident Alien could follow the path of other Syfy shows like Firefly and Farscape with a movie to tie up loose ends if not renewed for a new season. Resident Alien's potential move to a new network could mean a brighter future for the show's continuation. While Resident Alien season 3's cliffhanger ending may ultimately result in an unsatisfying conclusion, a possible new network could give the show new life.

Resident Alien season 4 still isn't confirmed, but even if the Syfy show isn't renewed, there's a strong precedent established for the network ending sagas in creative ways. Despite Resident Alien season 3's cliffhanger ending, Syfy has been apprehensive about bringing the show back to continue the tale of Alan Tudyk's Harry Vanderspeigle. So, while it's clear that showrunner Chris Sheridan has plans for Resident Alien's future, it remains to be seen if the project will be given...

Why Hasn’t Farscape Been Rebooted Despite its Rabid Fanbase?
Image
Farscape, the Australian Sci-Fi TV show, follows John Crichton's intergalactic adventures with aliens and advanced technology in space battles. Despite its popularity, Farscape was canceled due to high production costs and lack of funding, preventing any official reboot or continuation. Plans for webisodes and a potential movie adaptation have fallen through, but hope remains for a return to TV in the future.

Launched on the SyFy channel on March 19, 1999, Farscape is an Australian Science Fiction TV show produced by The Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment. The premise concerns an eclectic group of astronauts led by John Crichton (Ben Browder) engaging in various intergalactic missions while fighting an authoritarian regime called The Peacekeepers. Farscape remained on the Nine Network for four seasons and 88 episodes, gaining a rabid fanbase before the show was canceled in 2003.

Despite being off the air for nearly 20 years, Farscape has flirted with a small-screen continuation...

Farscape Cast - Where Are They Now?
Image
The cast of Farscape has had varying levels of visibility in recent years, with some actors landing high-profile roles in big franchises and others pursuing endeavors outside of acting. Wayne Pygram, who played Scorpius, had notable roles in Star Wars Episode III and Lost, but his acting roles in recent years have been sparse. Tammy MacIntosh, who played Jool, has enjoyed a successful career after Farscape, with appearances in shows like All Saints, Sea Patrol, and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.

The Farscape saga ended in 2004, leaving those who followed the show to wonder what happened to the cast of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars after it was concluded. Farscape is widely heralded as one of the TV sci-fi classics and one of the most influential TV shows from the 2000s when it comes to the space opera genre. Hugh Keays-Byrne, ‘Mad Max’ Actor Who Played Immortan Joe, Dies at 73
Image
Hugh Keays-Byrne, who played two iconic villains in the “Mad Max” franchise, has died, his representative confirmed to Variety on Wednesday. He was 73.

Keays-Byrne played the antagonist Toecutter in the 1979 original “Mad Max” film by director George Miller, and he was brought back for the 2015 movie “Mad Max: Fury Road” to play the evil villain Immortan Joe.

Brian Trenchard-Smith, who directed Keays-Byrne in the 1975 film “The Man From Hong Kong,” shared on Facebook that he had died in a hospital on Tuesday.

“Hugh had a generous heart, offering a helping hand to people in need, or a place to stay to a homeless teenager. He cared about social justice and preserving the environment long before these issues became fashionable. His life was governed by his sense of the oneness of humanity. We will miss his example and his friendship,” Trenchard-Smith wrote.

As Toecutter, the leader of a biker gang, Keays-Byrne...

'Farscape' Movie Update: A feature film is 'in the script stage' says creator
Claudia Black, Ben Browder, and Virginia Hey in Farscape (1999)
(Cbr) While participating on a panel devoted to showrunners at WonderCon Anaheim Saturday, Rockne S. O’Bannon ("Revolution") provided an update on the movie version of one of his most beloved, cancelled shows: "Farscape." “We are, in fact, in the script stage of a 'Farscape' feature,” O’Bannon announced to a packed house that couldn’t be more excited. This isn’t the first time news of the project broke to fans. In February, Sydney-based writer Justin Monjo let the cat out of the bag to If.com.au, revealing plot details surrounding the film. It is rumored to follow the son of series’ mainstays John and Aeryn. “[We’re] still in early, early stages,” O’Bannon cautioned fans. He didn’t hesitate however to praise Brian Henson’s efforts in making the project come to life. “He was like a dog with a bone,” O’Bannon said. “He would not give up on it.

A Farscape Movie Is in Development
It was recently announced that original Farscape scribe Justin Monjo is writing a screenplay for a spin-off movie. The sci-fi series was created by Rockne S. O'Bannon and produced by Jim Henson Productions and Hallmark Entertainment. It ran from 1999 to 2003. It was supposed to get five seasons, but only ran four. The series ended on a cliffhanger, but co-producer Brian Henson secured the rights to Farscape and developed and directed a three-hour miniseries to wrap up the story that left fans hanging. It was called Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.

Henson is also set to direct the new movie in development. Thanks to Tor, we have a little information on the story:

Set to follow the awesome comics written by our favorite Keith R.A. DeCandido, the film would follow John and Aeryn's son, D'Argo (or Little D, as we will always refer to him). Because their baby was exhibiting a...

Is a ‘Farscape’ Movie in the Works?
In a world of reboots and remakes, it was only a matter of time before Farscape made a return. The series from The Jim Henson Company ran from 1999 to 2003 on the Sci-Fi Channel – yes, it was still “Sci-Fi” at that point and not “SyFy” – until it was abruptly canceled after its fourth season. A miniseries – Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars – aired in 2004, providing closure for fans reeling from the season 4 cliffhanger. In the years that followed, ideas for a web series sequel were tossed around, but sadly, that project never got off the ground.

Farscape has sat on a shelf ever since, earning new fans thanks to streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Instant ...

Monjo pens HBO pilot, Farscape movie
Game of Thrones. Peter Dinklage is in talks to star in the pilot for an HBO series scripted by Sydney-based Justin Monjo and produced by Ben Stiller.s Red Hour Films.

The prolific Monjo is also writing the screenplay for Farscape, a movie spin-off of the sci-fi series that ran on the Nine Network and the Sci-Fi Channel in the Us, for Jim Henson Productions, to be directed by Brian Henson.

Dinklage would play a dwarf detective in The Beasts of Valhalla, based on a series of novels by the late George C. Chesbro. Monjo read the books years ago but could not think of an actor who was right for the role of the sleuth named Mongo until he saw Dinklage in Game of Thrones.

.It.s a grounded sci-fi series,. says Monjo, who flies to New York next month to discuss the project with Dinklage, with whom he has corresponded.

'Farscape' movie "not out of the question", says Rockne S O'Bannon
Claudia Black, Ben Browder, and Virginia Hey in Farscape (1999)
A Farscape movie is "not out of the question", the show's co-creator Rockne S O'Bannon has said.

O'Bannon told SciFiNow that he has discussed the possibility of reviving the cult series - which starred Ben Browder and Claudia Black - for the big screen.

"A feature [film] is something we've talked about," he revealed. "That's not out of the question. Obviously, Firefly found new life in features as Serenity, so it can happen.

"We continue to talk about it. I would love to go and revisit that world."

However, the writer/producer appeared to rule out the possibility of Farscape returning to television.

"I don't know that it would necessarily come back as a series," he said. "But I'm in touch with [co-creator] Brian Henson... and we're always talking about where else we could next present that world."

Farscape originally aired for four seasons between 1999 and 2003 and later returned for mini-series Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars...

Blu-ray Review: Hefty Set For Fan Favorite ‘Farscape: The Complete Series’
Chicago – Hardcore fans will know why they decided to release a box set of “Farscape: The Complete Series” in November 2011. The fan favorite was created by The Jim Henson Company and there just happens to be a little Disney movie coming out next week that hopes to return Kermit, Fozzie, and the rest of the gang to international prominence yet again. What about Crichton, Aeryn Sun, and Ka D’Argo? In all seriousness, this unusual tie-in to “The Muppets” may not appeal to many fans of the sure-to-be blockbuster but it will hit its target audience like a freight train. With hours of special features and remastered transfers, it’s a great HD set.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0
