According to multiple outlets, Harry and Meghan traveled to the remote town of Tromso where they enjoyed whale-watching, spent the night under the Aurora Borealis and took part in a bevy of other winter-themed activities. So how much did the romantic getaway cost the pair? Well, if the Suits star and her man did in fact...

Whenever someone asks me whether they should be watching Heroes Reborn, my answer is always some sort of nonverbal groan-shrug, followed by a crucial caveat: It’s got a predetermined lifespan, at least. Knowing that we’ve got an end date, a set universe in which only so many things can happen, has managed to soften each blow whenever the show flaunts its dumber elements (video-game powers, L.L. Bean models controlling the Aurora Borealis) with the assurance that, “Shh, hush, now, it won’t last forever.” It’s actually kind of a consolation blessing, one that says that NBC and Reborn’s showrunners have a mature awareness of and respect for both the franchise’s completely batshit nonsense and the somehow-still-dedicated Heroes fanbase keeping the series on the air; in other words, if its writers want so badly to break all of their own narrative rules, they might as...

Aurora BorealisMy recent films are 3D images of nature and people in the environment. There is no narrative or no scripted work along with 3D images. I may call my films visual essays or poems. My approach to 3D films is to visualize and experience actual existences substances that are real in normally impossible ways without using any CG.I am originally a Holography artist. Holography is a totally different medium, and has different vocabulary. It invades our space yet co-exists. It creates an illusion and that is why holography is so special. But very few holography works are taken seriously by the world of art. I am afraid that 3D films might have similar fate. Amusement park-type 3D effects are still wanted by many.By contributing part of the technical side of my work, I hope you find my aesthetic intention. I also hope that by sharing technical methods...

On Unknown Mortal Orchestra's new single, "Can't Keep Checking My Phone," the New Zealand (now Portland-based) trio imagines a world in which we are all less dependent on our overpriced data plans and online-dating apps. Or, as lead singer-songwriter Ruban Nielson tells Vulture:"Cant Keep Checking My Phone" is about missing somebody and that point where you refuse to accept online "connectivity" as a substitute for being with someone Irl. When someone you love turns into texts and ideas delivered through a device, at some point, they’re competing with real things, like the Aurora Borealis, which is another thing that only really makes sense in the flesh. I also read somewhere that the universe might be holographic, and in that case, maybe the distance between us is just an illusion. So do you fall in love with the idea of someone? Or the chemicals they give off in person?...

There was once this show called Heroes. It aired on NBC and tapped into the superhero-obsessed zeitgeist long before anyone truly understood that such a market even existed. With half-a-dozen comic book-inspired TV series on the air right now, one might suggest that Heroes was ahead of its time, at least, before the show started its long death march to cancellation, declining in quality year after year till no one cared anymore.
Last year, NBC announced that they were planning on bringing back Heroes in 2015 as Heroes Reborn, and even though only two roles have been cast, and not a frame of footage has been captured, the network has used the occasion of the Super Bowl to tease the return of the show.
Though the preview is extremely brief, we see Jack Coleman returning as Noah “Horn-Rimmed Glasses” Bennet from the original series, and Chuck star Zachary Levi in a mysterious new role.

Rob counts down the top 50 episodes of TV's longest-running animated series, The Simpsons...
Since its debut in 1989, across 552 episodes and 25 seasons, The Simpsons has become one of the most revered and beloved TV programmes of all time. It’s a true cultural phenomenon that’s influenced not just animation, but all areas of TV comedy and sitcom. For so many of us, its quotes and catchphrases have permeated our everyday vernacular, from single words like “crisitunity” and “embiggen” to phrases “you don’t win friends with salad” and “everything’s coming up Milhouse.”
Personal opinions may vary, but for me the show’s peak years were from season 4 through to 10. They’re consistently funny, all killer and no filler runs with barely a dud episode to be found between 1992-1998. Past this point the standard becomes a little more mixed, and recent seasons have been distinctly average at best. The...

[As you probably already know, starting on Thursday, August 21, Fxx is running the Every Simpsons Ever Marathon, running through all 552 episodes of "The Simpsons," plus "The Simpsons Movie." To aid in your viewing process, Team HitFix is selecting our favorite episodes from each day, plus an episode or two that you can skip and use as a bathroom or nap break.] Day 4 of Fxx's Every Simpsons Ever Marathon really is where the show hits its peak. It's possible that it can't equal the heights of Day 2 and Day 3, but there's a depth to the episodes between "Round Springfield" and "Grade School Confidential" that no other day can top. How good is this day? I even like the big Abe episode, "Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in 'The Curse of the Flying Hellfish.'" How good is this day? We didn't even consider "Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment" and it includes the immortal line, "To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems." And we considered, but didn't write up "Homer's Phobia," with John Waters in one of the show's best guest vocal turns. And nobody even mentioned "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)" even though Homer's Guatemalan insanity pepper hallucination is an aesthetic highlight.

Meet Earth’s cousin planet, Kepler-186f, discovered by Nasa’s Kepler Space Telescope in mid-April.
First Earth-Sized Planet Discovered In Habitable Zone
Located 490 light-years away from Earth, Kepler-186f is the first Earth-sized planet discovered outside our solar system that sits within the “habitable zone” of the star it orbits. The habitable zone is the area around a star “where liquid water might pool on the surface of an orbiting planet.” Other exoplanets have been discovered within habitable zones, but none of them have been Earth-sized.
“The discovery of Kepler-186f is a significant step toward finding worlds like our planet Earth. Future Nasa missions… will discover the nearest rocky exoplanets and determine their composition and atmospheric conditions, continuing humankind’s quest to find truly Earth-like worlds,” said Nasa’s Astrophysics Division Director Paul Hertz.

The success of Disney’s animated behemoth Frozen is something that was hard to imagine last November. The studio had not put a lot behind the film’s marketing campaign (save a misleading trailer that focused on comic relief characters Sven and Olaf) and sandwiched the release between two major box office guarantees, the sequels to The Hunger Games and The Hobbit. But, audiences of young girls and their parents could not get enough of the touching story of two sisters, as well as the delightful musical numbers. (We really need to let it go with all of the “Let It Go” videos online.) Word-of-mouth quickly spread and at the time of the film’s Blu-Ray and DVD release, it still lingers in the lower part of the weekend box office Top 10 – 16 weeks after it opened. Also, the film is the biggest animated hit in Disney’s history, internationally (although...

Pretty pictures of aurora borealis are regularly taken in parts of Norway and Greenland, where the spectacle can be seen more often, but this week's light show brought bright shades of pink, green, and purple to the skies over Scotland, England, and Wales, too. Not everyone can pull off a stunning mugshot. In fact, most can’t. In fact, only Jane Fonda, Suzanne Somers, and these 10 men can pull it off. In honor of Justin Bieber‘s photogenic brush with law enforcement, here are the 10 gents who do jail realness best. (I didn’t include the men convicted of actually maiming somebody else. Let this be a lesson to you, Sid Vicious.)
10. Hugh Grant
If you’re charmed by Hugh Grant on film, you can’t help but be wooed by his similarly impish, visibly uncomfortable work here. I love that his hair and choice in t-shirt prints are both divine and brown.
9. Justin Bieber

Photographer Jonathan Tucker snapped this absolutely amazing photo of the Northern Lights looking like a face. Check it out using your own face. Click For Full Size: See it? Preeettay cool, right? As I’m typing this, the photo has already inspired a History Channel special Northern Lights Face: Man Or Myth? as well as two reality shows, Northern Lights Face Hunters and Ice Road Northern Lights Face Hunters. So – coincidence, or is someone from The Lion King trying to send us a message… I’m not saying it’s definitely a fictional lion that’s spiritually manifested itself in the sky to impart invaluable advice encouraging us to remember who we are, I’m just saying that it’s probably that. Also, can’t have a Northern Lights post without: “Aurora Borealis???” – Superintendent Chalmers (Pic: Jonathan Tucker/solent, via Splash News)...

In 2006, .Happy Feet. became a critical and commercial success culminating with an Academy Award win for Best Animated Feature. In 2011, the franchise continues to tap dance its way into our hearts with a brand new sequel that stays true to the spirit of the original.
.Happy Feet Two. starts with a rollicking production number featuring the penguins of Emperor Land singing and dancing to the tune of Janet Jackson.s .Rhythm Nation. among others. Within the film.s first five minutes, you will notice that the production design is much better, the animation is sharper, and the dance routines are far better choreographed.
Mumble, once again voiced by Elijah Wood, is now a father and is having a hard time connecting with his son Erik (voiced by Ava Acres). If Mumble was vocally challenged as a little penguin, Erik is allergic to movin. and groovin.. When forced by his dad...

Screen Australia has invested $2.4m across seven documentaries to create what it says will be $6.5m worth of production.
Cordell Jigsaw will return with a second series of Sbs’s successful Go Back to Where You Came From to test six Australians about their preconcieved notions of asylum seekers by visiting refugees from regions not previously covered.
Producer Tristram Miall and writer/director Robin Hughes will create a six-part series called Creative Minds, exploring the lives of six Australia artists who have significantly contributed to the nation’s cultural landscape.
Using the ‘new science of happiness’ principles, experts will see if science can help couples save their relationships in Making Couples Happy, a four-part ABC series.
Photographer Murray Fredericks captures the Greenland Icecap in Nothing on Earth, produced, directed and written by the team behind award winning documentary, Salt.

Happy Friday my flavorful fajitas. I want to be very clear about something, lest you get the wrong idea, I love tacos. I think they're the best. But I would have to be Very drunk to eat at Taco Bell (or Taco Town for that matter). That's why I think Wi-Fi at Taco Bell is a terrible idea. Because while drunkenly consuming a double deep fried gordita sounds gross, drunktweeting about it sounds even grosser. (End Gadget)

Carole King is the call for the "American Idol" Top 6 theme night. We are trepidatious - not because we don't love Carole King. We do, quite a bit. "Tapestry" is an incredible album. But a night of Carole King with this bunch of Idols? Hmm. Where's Brooke White when we need her?
Um, why does Randy look like Eugene from "Grease"? Babyface is here as the mentor. Wow, that's a big name, very cool.
Update: After watching the night, I take back my trepidations. This was actually a great "Idol" night, overall. Here are our rankings from best to worst:
1. Scotty McCreery, "You've Got a Friend"
Jimmy Iovine and Babyface are trying to work on Scotty being smoother and a little more interesting and subtle with his vocals. Yes, definitely something for him to work on. He starts singing and ... this is gorgeous. Perfect choice. He is having some absolutely...

Buried in this profile about how Paul Marcarelli (Verizon Wireless’ “Can You Hear Me Now?” guy) had his entire life controlled by the company who needed him to maintain his image is the little note that he got the job while living in a one bedroom apartment with his boyfriend. Which in retrospect, didn’t surprise me.
I don’t really have an opinion on Rebecca Black’s “Friday” – it was just pop music that made no impression on me. I know others had some strong feelings, so they may want to skip the prom episode of Glee.
I used to run episodes of The Annoying Orange in the early days of Meme. In all honesty, they made Gilbert Gottfreid seem pleasant. Now it’s going to be an animated series on television.

Happy Monday, my titillating toboggans! I've heard rumblings that it's snowing again in some of the frostier climes of our fair nation. Alas, Alack! Well this collection of dog sledding photos are for you, my frostbitten readers. Happy Friday my darling darjeelings and randy rooibos. We begin today's Love by throwing some affection at our lord and master, Pajiba Editor-in-chief and Ryan Reynolds enthusiast, Dustin Rowles. In all honesty (and not just because I'm angling for an increase in my salary of stale Peeps), Dustin does a fantastic job every single damn day even if he Does run a pop-culture site and only just listened to Rebecca Black's "Friday" today (the day before Saturday). Opener Tear This Heart Out recreates a 1930s Mexican town with all its intrigues, and there are star-studded shorts to mark the 100th anniversary of the Mexican revolution, but much of this year's Spanish-lanugage film festival is bang up to date. Chilean movie The Life Of Fish is set at a party, while Aurora Borealis: My Final Day is presented as a Mexican teenager's video suicide note. The Colours Of The Mountain contrasts a rural village with guerrilla wars, and Spanish comedy Fat People focuses on obesity. Also, the documentary Circus tracks one of Mexico's last travelling circuses, while Sins Of My Father is a son's view of drug baron Pablo Escobar.

2012 Apocalypse Predictions! Urban Legends, Myths, and Science Trumors (True Rumors) about Solar Flares -- [Feb. 18] Despite all the excitement about Solar Flares this week, I wouldn't go running to your bomb shelter getting ready for some sort of John Cusack 2012 apocalypse movie moment in real-time modern era history just yet. The sky is not falling officially yet -- but according to true rumors in Scientific journals, last Monday Nasa scientists identified an X-class Solar Flare that sent a Coronal Mass Ejection (Cme) hurtling from the Sun yesterday toward Earth. Such an ejection, as scientists refer to the winds produced by the Sun, are often associated with other forms of solar activity, most notably solar flares. What's more, Nasa expects two more today -- making even celebrity gossip websites like Ecorazzi speculate that Hollywood star celebs like Ashton Kutcher -- who believe the end of the world is in sight -- speculate...

The world is ending – according to the news.
It snowed in Los Angeles on Monday after raining for a week straight in December. Thousands of dead fish and crabs are washing up on beaches in Florida and England. Birds are dropping dead from the sky in several states, and soon, a film about Justin Bieber will see wide release in 3D. What is going on?
Let’s ask Aaron Eckhart. Before delivering an Oscar-worthy performance last year in Rabbit Hole that Dave Karger calls “emotionally affecting,” Eckhart starred as a geophysicist in a wonderfully bad Armageddon-meets-The-Day-After-Tomorrow film called The Core,...

For those who aren’t familiar with Family Guy’s “Road to...” episodes, there is usually a lot to enjoy in these hour-long installments. Traditionally, episodes such as "Road to the North Pole" feature our favorite dog and baby in a madcap road-trip musical.
I had mixed feelings about this one, despite its clever moments and hopeful ending. While I normally have no problems about Family Guy’s shocking or offensive themes, I felt bit disconcerted about the direction of this Christmas episode.
Perhaps it was the way that the series stomped on something as innocent as Santa and his elves and twisted them all around. Or perhaps it was the cannibalistic reindeers. Whatever the specific reason, the irreverent nature of Family Guy seemed just a little too graphic for me this time around.

Jonah Hex: "Yippie-kai-lame, motherfucker. I'm not sure what the fuck Jonah Hex was supposed to be. Rather than a tight-fisted western popcorn flick about a vigilante bounty hunter trying to track down the outlaw who murdered his family and scarred his face, we're left with a cowboyed-up mash-up of pseudo-westerns, as gazed through a heady dose of peyote. Not a single frame doesn't feel derived from something else, whether it's Wild Wild West, Sherlock Holmes, Back to the Future III, or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The titular character growls and snarls his way through a rammy, stilted Ramboner, gunning through the flimsiest sketches of characters until the film abruptly skids to a whinnying cliff-edged halt. At a paltry 81-minute run time, you don't have time to enjoy yourself. It's like the studio gave up halfway through, which was about a half-hour past when the cast stopped caring. It's a...

Iridium Communications, the satellite phone company, has some clever ideas for small "piggyback" payloads aboard its next-gen Next communications spacecraft, but one big experiment using its existing array of 66 orbiting platforms has just been announced: It's to measure space weather in real time.
The effort is a partnership between Iridium, Johns Hopkins University and Boeing, and it's dubbed the Active Magnetosphere and Planetary Electrodynamics Response Experiment--ampere for short. The equipment is already aboard some of Iridium's satellite communications spacecraft, drawing power from the vehicle's main systems, and using Iridium's ground systems to send data and commands to and from the payload. Ampere is designed to provide real-time magnetic field measurements, taken from orbit, as part of a new network to forecast the Earth's upcoming space weather. Eventually the science from these experiments may let forecasters work out how the Earth's space weather effects will progress, much like is currently attempted...

Guy Maddin’s hometown fantasia, My Winnipeg, is one of my favorite films of the last few years. Night Mayor is a recent short film that explores similar territory. It won a Short Film Jury Award for Experimental Short at this year’s SXSW, and is now available online at the National Film Board of Canada site (and embedded here). From the press release: Night Mayor tells the tale of Nihad Ademi, a Bosnian immigrant who serves as Winnipeg’s “night mayor.” Ademi somehow harnesses the multi-coloured waves of the Aurora Borealis and uses its power to broadcast images of his beloved adoptive country to its identity-starved citizens from coast to coast. It is Maddin’s first film added to an online catalog. Maddin says,...

If you're at all familiar with Canadian auteur Guy Maddin, you already know what to expect. For those who don't know the Genius from the North, here's your way into the bizzare, strange world of Maddin.
The Night Mayor was created for the National Film Board of Canada (commonly referred to as the Nfb), to celebrate their anniversary and the film premiered at Tiff last year. After much waiting and the thought that we may never have the opportunity to see the film, the Nfb does what they do best, they share it with the world. The full short has appeared online and it's well worth 13 minutes of your time.
The short tells the story of inventor Nihad Ademi, who harnesses the power of the Aurora Borealis in 1939 Winnipeg. Ademi uses the power to broadcast images of Canada to its own citizens from coast to coast, but in the process angers the government.

As previously discussed on many occasions at Pajiba, DreamWorks is widely considered second to Pixar when it comes to animation excellence. Still, I'm really a sucker for an underdog, so I was pleased to see that DreamWorks' maturity level has grown in the few years since the studio's ass-clenching hero of Kung Fu Panda graced the celluloid screen. Of course, the upcoming Shrek Everlasting will likely cause me to eat these words, but, with How to Train Your Dragon, DreamWorks has pulled off a Pixar-level story with affecting characters and a refreshing lack of pop-culture allusions and no bodily function jokes to be found. Quite simply, this movie was made to last, so parents can breathe a sigh of relief that repeated viewings on DVD shall not destroy valuable brains cells of their children.

Acclaimed Winnipeg filmmaker Guy Maddin has won the Best Experimental Short award at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival for Night Mayor. The film is a fictional documentary about Bosnian inventor Nihad Ademi who, in 1939, built a machine that harnessed the power of the Aurora Borealis to transmit images of Canadians to themselves.
Created as a tribute to the National Film Board of Canada’s 70th anniversary, Night Mayor playfully twists concepts of fact and fiction. Maddin describes the film as a documentary, even though his subject never actually existed, since it was shot documentary style with no planned action or script. Maddin assembled his cast and crew to document Ademi’s story as it may have happened and captured the action in his uncanny style of recreating time periods.
To see the director at work and to hear him describe his process, embedded below is a making-of clip posted on the Nfb’s website.
