2025 sees two Disney live-action remakes hit theaters, Snow White and Lilo & Stitch. It also means it has been 15 years since Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland kicked off this trend that has dominated the box office despite audiences and critics deriving it. For a decade now, audiences have seen films from Disney's classic era(Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio) and Renaissance get the live-action treatment to mixed results. However, right at the cusp of this Disney remake era, an ABC series put its own unique spin on many of Disney's classic canon and did it better than most of the live-action films that had triple the budget. We are, of course, talking about Once Upon a Time.
Once Upon a Time debuted on ABC in October 2011, a little over a year after Alice in Wonderland, and concluded in May 2018, between the $1 billion releases of Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Since then,...

Fans and critics have been in agreement recently that Disney's once masterful storytelling and even animation quality has faltered. With releases like Wish and Mufasa: The Lion King not surpassing the certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and scoring in the lower-mid-range on IMDb and Letterboxd, seeing the quintessential castle logo before a film doesn't indicate that it will be a truly magical adventure anymore.
Even though films like Mufasa and Moana 2 were financially successful, more and more discourse online and among communities emerges every time Disney releases a cash-grabbing live-action film or an animated film with significant story blunders and even unfinished-looking animation. Now is a better time than ever to revisit the classics that made audiences fall in love with Disney. Even though it's bittersweet that Disney may never get back to this point, their legacy in animation must be acknowledged and honored.

For several years, the nominees for Album of the Year were decided by secretive nomination review committees, but the Recording Academy got rid of most of those in 2021 after The Weeknd's notorious shutout, so now the decisions are made entirely by members at large. Scroll down for our latest odds, which are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Those odds are constantly changing, so we'll be updating this list throughout the season.
SEEGrammy Album of the Year: All the Winners in Grammy Awards History
In 2022, the first year without the committees, the Grammys expanded Album of the Year to 10 nominations (though that has since been contracted back to eight). The 2022 winner ended up being We Are by Jon Batiste, which was a surprise against higher-profile hits. So even without the committees to uplift underdog recordings, the academy's 13,000 voters don't necessarily default to the most popular nominee.

Get off the boat and turn around if you haven't watched the first two episodes of season 3 of "The White Lotus" — light spoilers lie ahead!
When season 3 of "The White Lotus" premiered on February 16, fans probably noticed that the theme song was ... really different. The same composer, Cristobal Tapia de Veer, has worked on all three seasons of Mike White's juicy HBO anthology series, but he's changed up the theme for each installment. Season 1, set in Hawai'i, featured a theme called (appropriately) "Aloha!" Season 2, which was set on the Italian isle of Sicily, got its own tune, "Renaissance" — which was pretty universally adored by fans — and now, we've got "Enlightenment," the season 3 theme that fits the installment's new setting, Thailand. So what was his inspiration for "Enlightenment?" Tiktok and cat sounds.
According to an article in Variety, Tapia de Veer was influenced by some unlikely sources for the show's third season.

It’s the same one staring out at you in hundreds of TikTok and Instagram videos that have been viewed billions of times. But unlike most social media stars, Jarred Jermaine has earned his internet celebrity performing an essential cultural service: He breaks down modern music to its DNA, uncovering samples, interpolations and too-close-for-comfort homages in today’s Top 40 hits.
He’s since widened his scope to help followers identify elusive songs and shed some light on the songwriting process. But his bread and butter remains sample detection. Fans are devastated that The White Lotus‘ theme song for season three has completely changed.
Composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer, who wrote the season 2 theme song, “Renaissance,” shared that he thought it was initially “terrible.” It eventually became a huge hit among fans, however.
Keep reading to find out more…
He created the season 2 theme after The White Lotus was renewed by HBO, and creator Mike White requested some Italian elements be put in to match with the show’s new setting.
Cristobal told Variety, “I took a little time to make an intro that would have those elements with things like a little harp, and some opera singing and some orchestral beats…And once I had that intro I started figuring out how to bring back the elements that are recognizable from the first season, which are the voices. [The original singer] wasn’t there when I made the demo but I did take her voice.

Grammy Awards 2025 saw its fair share of controversy when Beyoncé won in the Best Country Album category and artists like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish left without an award. The Grammy voters have consistently managed to piss off many people. However, some snubs are so obvious that we start suspecting the entire voting process.
There could be works that don’t make it to the final nomination list. And there will be some that never make it past the list. Some artists were daring enough to call out The Recording Academy over these discrepancies.

Fortunately, some of these rigging accusations have led to the Academy making corrections and taking a step towards complete transparency. Going through the history of the prestigious music awards, here are some incidents that made us believe the system is rigged.

Beyoncé is the most honored artist of all time at the Grammy Awards. In 2023, she set that record, which had previously been held by conductor Georg Solti, when she prevailed four times for her dance album Renaissance. In 2025, she extended that record with her country collection Cowboy Carter.
Beyoncé received a remarkable 11 nominations for Cowboy Carter, which itself was historic. That was the most nominations ever for a single album, the most nominations for a woman in a single year, and it gave Beyoncé the all-time record as the most nominated artist in history with 99 career bids. Most of the top categories have eluded her, but she finally won Album of the Year for this latest effort. That made her the first Black woman since Lauryn Hill (The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill) to claim the award. Our long national nightmare is over: Beyoncé finally won Album of the Year. The Grammys desperately needed her to win this award, so the night felt like a true celebration. The entire 2025 Grammys ceremony was a “just give Beyoncé her damn Album of the Year already” countdown. It all goes back to the curse of Morning Phase in 2015, when she lost to an obscure Beck album, the biggest upset in Grammy history. Over the past decade, as she lost for Lemonade and Renaissance, there’s been a sense that Bey...

Beyoncé took home album of the year for the first time during the 2025 Grammys on Sunday night.
The singer was nominated alongside André 3000 (New Blue Sun), Sabrina Carpenter (Short n’ Sweet), Charli xcx (Brat), Jacob Collier (Djesse Vol. 4), Billie Eilish (Hit Me Hard And Soft), Chappell Roan (The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess), and Taylor Swift (The Tortured Poets Department).
Members of the L.A. Fire Department were on hand to present the award during a telecast that made fire relief central to the show and, as host Trevor Noah revealed toward the show’s end, raised $7 million for relief efforts.
When the singer’s name was announced to end the night, she emotionally embraced her daughter Blue Ivy and husband Jay-Z. The Cowboy Carter singer-songwriter also received a standing ovation from the audience.

Making history is nothing new for Beyoncé, and nothing is slowing her down from setting more records.
The cultural icon, who went into the 2025 Grammy Awards with 11 nominations, continued to claim her rightful throne in music throughout the Sunday night ceremony, where she broke more records.
While she is already the most-awarded Grammy artist in history (she set that record in 2023 with her album Renaissance), she extended her record on Sunday. She won three awards during the 2025 ceremony, bringing her total number of trophies to 35.
Beyoncé also finally won album of the year for Cowboy Carter after years of being nominated for but not winning the top award. The win gets rid of her “record” as the most nominated female artist without a win in the album of the year category. (She was previously nominated for I Am…Sasha Fierce, Beyoncé, Lemonade and Renaissance.)

Charli Xcx and Beyoncé had two of the most impactful albums of 2024, making Brat and Cowboy Carter leaders in the race for the Album of The Year Grammy. Before her sixth studio album dropped this summer, Charli Xcx didn't get much recognition from the music industry. Her only number-one song is 2014's "Fancy," a collaboration with Iggy Azalea. While she still hasn't had a number one album - Brat was blocked by Taylor Swift's The Tortued Poets Department and Billie Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft - Brat became the album of the summer in 2024.
Cowboy Carter also saw massive success, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 album charts. Unfortunately, despite having every one of her solo studio albums reach number one, Beyoncé has never won Album of The Year at the Grammys. It seemed likely she would win in 2023 when she was nominated for Renaissance, a defining album of 2022. However,...

It's always a nerve-wracking experience watching season 2 of your favorite show and waiting to see if it will deliver or disappoint, but The White Lotus season 2 assuaged my worries early with its head-banging, heart-pounding, club-appropriate theme song to open the series. I caught season 1 of The White Lotus a little late, stumbling upon it while my parents and siblings were already partly through. I was hooked immediately. Even scenes that you generally don't want to watch with your parents weren't enough to distract from how great a story it was.
So when The White Lotus season 2 was announced, I was ready. I've been around the block enough to know now though that an anthology series can be tricky, and when an entirely new cast for season 2 was revealed (save for one notable returning star), I prepared myself for disappointment. How dare I doubt. The White Lotus season 2 was an even...

From the surprise drop of 2013’s visual album to the three-act reclamation of Black musical history that began with Renaissance, Beyoncé’s mastery of viral promotion is peerless. So when the superstar signed on for the NFL’s Christmas Gameday halftime show, the Hive — her devoted and highly informed fan base — expected an album or tour announcement to follow. Instead, they got a cryptic post-game Instagram video that revealed the date “01.14.2025.” But the performance might have served another purpose: to lock in an album of the year Grammy win for Cowboy Carter.
With the Grammy Awards’ final voting period open from Dec. 12 to Jan. 3, what better way to showcase Act II of Beyoncé’s ambitious musical trilogy than a holiday performance beamed into millions of households across America? “With nine solo Hot 100 No. 1’s, three more this century with Destiny’s Child, 27 Billboard Music Awards, and the most Grammy Awards of any artist in history, Billboard staff’s pick for the No. 1 greatest pop star of the 21st century is none other than the Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé,” says a recent video from Billboard, explaining its choice as it reaches the pinnacle of its countdown of the greatest pop stars since Y2K. Watch the video above to understand why the publication chose her as the epitome of pop success.
But most listeners who have even casually followed Beyoncé over the years understand the impact she has had on music and pop culture at large. Typically, the dance/electronic field at the Grammys is pretty easy to predict. Last year it was obvious that Fred Again was ahead of the competition, with four nominations overall. The year before Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” was the predictable winner, as it was far and away the most popular and acclaimed album in the lineup. However, this year is more interesting. While there’s one big neon green lock, there are a lot of possibilities in the other category, with perhaps the threat of a veteran act pulling off a surprise win.
Let’s start with Charli Xcx, whose “Brat” is up for Best Dance/Electronic Album. She is easily the frontrunner, with “Brat” being the biggest popular hit in the lineup, as well as the most critically acclaimed album of the year. The album received nine nominations overall, including Album of the Year. Another serious contender is Justice for their album “Hyperdrama.

Coincidence? … Maybe, but it’s fortuitous timing nevertheless. Beyoncé is set to perform during the halftime show for the upcoming NFL game between the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, which will stream exclusively on Netflix on Christmas Day. That just so happens to be right in the middle of final-round Grammy voting. Will it help her finally win top honors from the Recording Academy?
The 67th Annual Grammy Award nominations were announced on Nov. 8, and Beyoncé didn’t just lead the nominations. She crushed records — again. Already the most awarded individual in Grammy history with 32 career wins, this year she racked up another 11 nominations, the most ever for a female artist in a single year, and the most for a single album (“Cowboy Carter”). On top of that, it brought her total number of nominations to 99, which makes her by far the most nominated individual in the awards’ history.

The Grammys are handed out every year by the Recording Academy, an organization composed of music professionals representing different genres across the industry. For multiple years their nominations for Album of the Year were decided by clandestine nomination review committees, but the academy got rid of most of those in 2021, so now the decisions are made entirely by members at large. Scroll down for our latest racetrack odds, which are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Those odds are constantly changing, so we’ll be updating this list throughout the season.

Not everyone in the industry appreciates the Grammys, though. At the 2021 awards The Weeknd didn’t get a single nomination despite an acclaimed album (“After Hours”) and a song (“Blinding Lights”) so popular that Billboard ranked it as their number-one single of 2021 and the number-one song of all time.

One of the year’s least expected samples on a record started with an email. A few months ago, Bonnie Raitt received a note from Bon Iver auteur Justin Vernon. Raitt was already familiar with Vernon, especially after he covered her 1991 standard “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” with a bit of “Nick of Time” tacked on, a dozen years back. This time, Vernon was circling back to the latter song, but in a very different way.

Beyoncé is set to appear at Vice President Kamala Harris’ rally in Houston, Texas, on Friday, October 25th, according to multiple reports.
NBC reports the pop star is also expected to perform at Harris’ stop in Beyoncé’s hometown, with The Washington Post adding she will bring along her mother Tina Knowles, as well as country icon Willie Nelson.
In August, Beyoncé was rumored to be a special guest at the final night of the Democratic National Convention, though it turned out that no performance was ever planned.
As the election looms, figures like Taylor Swift, Charli Xcx, Insane Clown Posse (!?!?!), and others have made their support for the Democratic nominee known, while others like Chappell Roan and Julian Casablancas explained their reasoning for abstaining from making a formal endorsement (though the former clarified she would still be voting for Harris come November).

When Beyonce is eligible at the Grammys, you can typically expect her to be one of the most nominated artists of the year. She picked up 10 bids in 2010, and she was up for nine awards in 2017, 2021, and 2023. Altogether she’s tied with her husband Jay-Z for the most Grammy nominations ever (88). That’s a tie she’s sure to break this year with her genre-bending “Cowboy Carter” album, which could get the trailblazing artist up to 12 nominations. If she secures all of them, she’ll tie Michael Jackson (1984) and Babyface (1997) for the most bids in a single year, and bring her all-time tally to an even 100 noms. Here are her submissions:

Beyoncé broke into the music industry at the age of 8 as part of the rap group Girl’s Tyme. When Columbia Records signed the group in 1997, it was renamed Destiny’s Child. Queen Bey’s career thrived with the girl group, with five out of their seven albums going platinum. When she transitioned to a solo career, Beyoncé went on to release some of the most successful albums in music history.

Charles Dance is to star as Michelangelo in a BBC-PBS docu-drama about the renaissance.
Dance is leading Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty, examining how some of the greatest works of art in the Western world were born out of an era of violence, power politics and rivalry.
The BBC said the show will “reveal an unfamiliar side to the Renaissance,” with Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael also represented along with their patrons in 16th-century Italy.
Dance is well known for playing villains and authoritative characters on screen. The Emmy-nominee’s past credits include The Crown, in which he played Lord Mountbatten, Game of Thrones and The Imitation Game.
With Renaissance, the BBC is embracing the current penchant for historical docu-drama, which has seen Netflix make similar shows on the likes of Cleopatra, Alexander the Great and the Russian Tsars.

Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” has been one of the most talked about releases of the year, with both fans and detractors weighing in on the pop/R&b star’s venture into country and Americana music and aesthetics. Naturally, a major talking point even before the album’s release was its Grammy potential, with many eager to see Beyoncé finally receive an Album of the Year prize. But before winning that top prize, there are a few factors we need to consider.
What typically signals a win in the top category is support elsewhere, especially in the country sphere, where all country Album of the Year winners have also been nominated and won. But how well will Beyoncé do exactly in terms of supporting nominations and wins in that field. While we know pop, R&b and hip-hop voters love Bey, her single “Texas Hold ‘Em,” which was a big hit with the general public,...

There are good Stephen King adaptations, there are bad Stephen King adaptations, and there are — even in this our ongoing King movie Renaissance — a whole lot of adaptations in between. The new "Salem's Lot" movie adaptation has had a ton of potential from the jump, both because one of the author's scariest books is decades overdue for an on-screen update, and because of the early footage the /Film team saw at CinemaCon back in 2022 made an epic first impression.
And then a curious thing happened: the film never came out. Initially set to open on September 9, 2022, "Salem's Lot" got pushed to April 21, 2023, and then it got removed from the release date calendar altogether. This happened at a time when studio Warner Bros. was going through some changes, and outright shelving movies like "Batgirl." There was a fear that Warner Bros. might never release "Salem's Lot," something that really bugged author Stephen King.

Beyoncé finally shared why she has distanced herself from making music videos for her latest albums.
After trailblazing the visual aspect of albums, Beyoncé’s latest albums, like Cowboy Carter and Renaissance, have no music videos, and there’s a reason for that.
“I thought it was important that during a time where all we see is visuals, that the world can focus on the voice,” the singer told GQ. “The music is so rich in history and instrumentation. It takes months to digest, research, and understand.”
She continued, “The music needed space to breathe on its own. Sometimes a visual can be a distraction from the quality of the voice and the music. The years of hard work and detail put into an album that takes over four years! The music is enough. The fans from all over the world became the visual. We all got the visual on tour.

Disneys animated movies are the subject of a variety of theories, and one about Hercules completely changes Zeus role in the story, but also makes it more confusing. In 1989, Walt Disney Feature Animation went through the period called the Disney Renaissance, in which the studio went back to producing critically and commercially successful animated movies. Like the movies before them, most of the Disney Renaissance movies were based on fairy tales and legends, and among them was Hercules, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and released in 1997.
Loosely based on the story of legendary Greek hero Heracles (though for the movie he was given his Roman name), Hercules took viewers to Ancient Greece. The Gods Zeus and Hera welcomed their baby son, Hercules, but Zeus brother, Hades, wanted to overthrow Zeus and take over Mount Olympus. After learning that Hercules would be an obstacle, Hades tried and failed to kill him,...
