Alex Rodrigo, a director on the acclaimed Netflix drama series “Money Heist,” is making his feature film directorial debut with “The Last Shot,” one of 16 film projects being pitched to prospective buyers this week during Rome’s Mia market.
“The Last Shot” is a biopic about the late Spanish photographer and humanitarian Luis Valtueña (pictured), who was killed in Rwanda in 1997. Recreating the Spaniard’s final days amid a rapidly unraveling humanitarian crisis in the East African nation, it centers on the mysterious final photo that Valtueña took before he was killed alongside two other aid workers.
The film is produced by Miguel Menéndez de Zubillaga of Mono Films and Acid Media’s José Barrio, a close friend of the late photographer, who shares writing credits with Luis Murillo.
Rodrigo said he was drawn to the magnetic character of Valtueña, who he called “idealistic, a little naïve, bold, authentic,” though...

V Wars, Netflix's television adaptation of Jonathan Maberry's vampire comic book series, stars Ian Somerhalder.
V Wars is set to immerse its starring actor, Ian Somerhalder, into a familiarly associated scenario, immersed amongst vampires, just as he’d previously done as an immortal for eight seasons of The CW's The Vampire Diaries, which ended in 2017. This time, however, he’ll be on the human side of the struggle.
Netflix set 10 episodes of the hour-long series, V Wars, an on-screen adaptation of Jonathan Maberry's 2012 book about the first Vampire War. The book is the first in a series that feature prose stories about the supernatural struggle. V-Wars: Chronicles of the Vampire Wars has four installments, and is distributed by Idw Publishing, who is also producing the series alongside High Park Entertainment.

Lifetime exec vp Fisher plans exit
Barbara Fisher is poised to exit her post at Lifetime Entertainment after two years as executive vp and head of programming. Lifetime officials confirmed Thursday that Fisher will depart the female-targeted cable network in June after her current contract expires this month. No immediate successor was named for Fisher, who reported to Lifetime president Carole Black. "We thank Barbara for all her contributions and wish her the very best," a Lifetime spokesman said. Fisher joined Lifetime in June 2002 after a 15-year run at Universal Television, where she served a long stint as head of the studio's movies and miniseries department. Lifetime ranks among basic cable's most popular channels, but the network has not had much traction with original series fielded during Fisher's tenure, including dramas I-800-MISSING and Wild Card. "I have enjoyed working with this group of outstanding professionals, and I look forward to the next chapter in my career," Fisher said.

Lifetime ordered 18 episodes. "We are extremely excited to bring back 'Wild Card' as part of our Saturday night line-up," said Barbara Fisher, executive VP, entertainment. "Our viewers have told us that they connect and respond to these very identifiable characters by coming back each and every Saturday." Still to be determined is the fate of 10 p.m. drama 1-800-Missing, which debuted alongside Card last year. Card is a produced by Busiek Prods. with Fireworks Entertainment. Doug Steinberg (Boston Public) is executive producer and Lynn Marie Latham and Bernard Lechowick (That's Life) are co-creators.

Lifetime looks to be wild card on Saturdays
NEW YORK -- Before it began its second life as a syndicated strip on Lifetime, NBC's Golden Girls earned a distinction only a select group of TV series can claim: It survived a Saturday primetime slot, a daypart that strikes fear in the hearts of programmers everywhere. Now Lifetime is hoping lightning will strike again on Saturday for its new original dramas beginning this weekend, Wild Card and 1-800-MISSING. Citing Saturday-bred hits like The Love Boat and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Lifetime senior vp research Tim Brooks believes the accursed night is not a wasteland but a fallow field awaiting another Golden opportunity. "There's a kind of lore in the business that Saturday is not a good time to put programming on," he said. "That's exactly why it's such an attractive night -- because so many other networks stay away from it."...
