The Meyers-Shyer family did provide a statement to Deadline about Shyer’s death that read: “It’s with an indescribably heavy heart that we share the news of our beloved father, Charles Shyer’s passing. His loss leaves an unfillable hole in our lives, but his legacy lives on through his children and the five decades of wonderful work he’s left behind. Shyer earned an Oscar nomination in 1981 for writing on 1980’s Private Benjamin, which starred Goldie Hawn, an honor he shared with Nancy Meyers and Harvey Miller.

Charles Shyer, the director and Oscar-nominated writer who teamed with then-wife Nancy Meyers on such audience-pleasing, feel-good comedies as Private Benjamin, Irreconcilable Differences, Baby Boom and Father of the Bride, has died. He was 83.

Shyer died Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a brief illness, his daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer, writer and director of the 2017 Reese Witherspoon comedy Home Again, told The Hollywood Reporter.

The son of veteran assistant director Melville Shyer, one of the founders of the DGA, Shyer started out writing for sitcoms like The Odd Couple and The Partridge Family with then-partner Alan Mandel before they broke into the movies with the box office smash Smokey and the Bandit (1977), starring Burt Reynolds and Sally Field.

Shyer’s career skyrocketed when he joined forces with Meyers and Harvey Miller to pen the screenplay for Private Benjamin (1980), directed by Howard Zieff and featuring Goldie Hawn in her first big-screen starring role.

After an almost two-year wait, Emily in Paris season 4 has arrived with its first batch of episodes on Thursday, Aug. 15. Like projects such as Stranger Things and You before it, Emily in Paris season 4 is divided into two parts, with the second releasing almost exactly one month after the first. The strategy mostly works, even though the series' episodes are not that long to warrant the divide, and Emily in Paris Season 4 - Part 1 has the perfect cutting-off point to set up many debates in the month it takes for Part 2 to arrive.

Emily is back, and Netflix promises she’s ready to chic things up.

Emily in Paris‘ long-awaited fourth season finally has a trailer (below). The season will put one stiletto in front of the other to walk the path set out by some of the streamer’s other biggest hits (Stranger Things, Cobra Kai and Bridgerton, to name a few) and will get a split-season release. Part one releases five episodes on Aug. 15, followed by part two’s five episodes hitting Sept. 12.

Season three left the hit show starring Lily Collins as Emily Cooper with a series of lingering bombshell reveals for Emily (involving a love triangle between Lucas Bravo’s Gabriel and Lucien Laviscount’s Alfie) and the rest of the cast. The trailer sees the protagonist of the comedy trying to move on after season three’s revelations and may find her circling around to a big decision by season’s end.

Michael Caine showed no sign of slowing down as he entered his third decade as a leading man. The 1980s would see him win his first Academy Award (Hannah And Her Sisters), tackle new genres such as horror (The Hand) and shark-based revenge movie (Jaws The Revenge) while continuing to work with interesting new auteurs like Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill) as well as old friends from classic Hollywood such as John Huston (Escape To Victory).

Looking back to his claim to fame following 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, Jude Law is “proud” of how he handled all the extra attention and scrutiny.

The Oscar-nominated actor had already landed several movie and theater roles early in his career, but it was the Anthony Minghella-directed movie, in which he starred alongside Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow, that truly changed his life.

Jude Law is ready to be challenged by screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes.

Law shared in an interview with Vanity Fair that he is set to work with “Challengers” scribe Kuritzkes on a Mike Nichols-inspired film.

“I’m developing a project with Justin Kuritzkes, who just wrote ‘Challengers,'” Law said. “The thing that bonded us was Mike Nichols. I said, ‘I think this is a Mike Nichols film.’ He was like, ‘Well, you would know.’ He felt the same when he went into ‘Challengers.'”

While Law kept the details of their upcoming project under wraps, he did reveal there would be a “sexual-social intercourse” element, much like in tense love triangle dramedy “Challengers” and late filmmaker Nichols’ famed works. Nichols directed Law in the 2004 romantic quadrangle drama “Closer.”
