Every Song On The Sweet Tooth Season 2 Soundtrack
Image
Sweet Tooth season 2 soundtrack balances classic hits like Cream with indie tracks by Aisha Badru, creating a well-curated listening experience. Limited songs in Sweet Tooth season 2 enhance crucial scenes, with composer Jeff Grace returning to deliver atmospheric compositions. The soundtrack adds depth to narrative threads as the series continues Gus' post-apocalyptic adventures with a focus on his imprisonment.

The Sweet Tooth season 2 soundtrack features exciting needle drops, ranging from rock hits by Cream and Alice In Chains to alternative and indie tracks by Aisha Badru and Patrick Watson. Like the Sweet Tooth season 1 soundtrack, season 2's tracklist balances throwback classics with modern picks. Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the Netflix fantasy series continues the post-apocalyptic adventures of deer-boy Gus, with the sophomore season focusing on Gus' imprisonment by General Abbot and the efforts to use him as a cure for humankind in a world ravaged by a pandemic called The Sick.

Tokyo Ghoul Saddest Character Deaths
Image
In a story as grim as Tokyo Ghoul, witnessing characters die isn't something startling. Sui Ishida, the creator of the manga, is known for killing off his main characters, and he does it in style. Ishida's writing is so phenomenally nuanced that fans are often trapped between hating the villain and supporting their cause.

Related: 14 Saddest Deaths In Naruto, Ranked

Every character, be it a hero or a villain, carries a heavy burden and a sad past that leaves the reader feeling truly mournful. Considering the complexity of Tokyo Ghoul, it's difficult to say which character's death in the series was the saddest. That said, some deaths naturally felt more profound than others.

Updated by Ajay Aravind on June 5, 2023: Although it only ran for three years, Tokyo Ghoul managed to cement itself as one of the best-selling series in manga history. At this point, the overarching franchise includes numerous anime shows,...

The Cellar Star Elisha Cuthbert Doesn't Hold Back In Horror Movies [Interview]
Elisha Cuthbert
Elisha Cuthbert's horror movies are well-known among horror fans. Now, she's got a distinct trio of horror titles on her resume with "Captivity," "House of Wax," and now, "The Cellar." All different styles of horror movies, all different performances. However, those three movies share one key similarity for Cuthbert: "You can't hold back when you're doing horror."

Brendan Muldowney's "The Cellar" is more subdued, as the actress put it, but there's still notes of fear, regret, and paranoia to play in the old-school haunted house story. Even though Cuthbert doesn't make a lot of horror movies, when she does, she wants to give it...

Hulu New Releases: March 2020
Alec Bojalad Feb 18, 2020

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in March 2020.

March sees the beginning of one of TV's more interesting experiment in 2020. Hulu's new releases for March 2020 are highlighted by the launch of the torturously-named "FX on Hulu" in which certain FX shows will premiere exclusively on Hulu.

Yes, when Disney set out up the entertainment industry, it gained more brands than it knew what to do with. And that's how you get stuff like FX on Hulu. The streaming/cable hybrid begins in earnest in March with two series, Alex Garland's sci-fi Devs and the weird Lil Dickey comedy Dave. More FX on Hulu is set to arrive in April as well.

Hulu's only $5.99/month now, grab the deal here!

In addition to FX's offerings, Hulu has some intriguing originals of its own for March 2020. Hillary Clinton docuseries, Hillary, premieres on...

Amazon Prime Adding Tons Of Great Horror Movies In January
Hereditary was so 2018.

Writer-director Ari Aster returned this year with Midsommar, and though it’s a good idea to always approach new horror movies with a sense of cautious optimism, Aster’s sophomore effort certainly lived up to the hype.

Following a group of friends who travel to Sweden to attend a summertime festival, it’s all good old-fashioned fun under the Scandinavian sun…until it becomes something far more sinister and things start to get pretty dark and twisted. You see, this festival isn’t really a festival at all, but rather….well, we won’t spoil it for you here, because if you haven’t yet seen the film, you’ll have the chance to next month on Amazon Prime.

That’s right, the steaming site will be adding Midsommar, along with a number of other great horror movies, to its platform beginning in January, and for a...

Larry Cohen, Iconic Horror Director of It's Alive and The Stuff, Dies at 77
We've got some sad news to report for big fans of the horror genre. Pioneer filmmaker Larry Cohen has passed away. Circumstances surrounding Cohen's passing are not yet clear, but the filmmaker reportedly died today at the age of 77. The veteran director and screenwriter had contributed to dozens of genre movies since the start of his career, and had built a passionate fan following in the decades since. Needless to say, the community is already in mourning, with many fans and colleagues taking to social media to express their sorrow over the loss.

Cohen's career in the entertainment industry dates all the way back to the 1950's, starting with work on television scripts. He had spent a lot of time in his early career writing for crime and detective shows, such as The Defenders and The Fugitive. By the '70s, Cohen opted to step behind the camera as well,...

Larry Cohen
Larry Cohen, Horror Maestro Behind ‘The Stuff’ and ‘It’s Alive,’ Dies at 77
Larry Cohen
Larry Cohen, a revered figure in the horror genre best known for directing such films as “It’s Alive,” “Gold Told Me To,” and “The Stuff,” has died at 77. The filmmaker began his decades-spanning career by writing for television in the 1960s, penning more than 100 episodes of crime and detective series like “The Fugitive” and “The Defenders” before helming his first feature, “Bone,” in 1972.

He jumped between horror, science fiction, and even blaxploitation over the next 30 years and 20 features before stepping behind the camera for the final time with, fittingly enough, an episode of “Masters of Horror.”

Cohen continued as a screenwriter after helming his last feature, 1996’s “Original Gangstas,” including “Phone Booth,” “Cellular,” and “Captivity.” He also wrote the script for 1988’s cult classic “Maniac Cop” and two of its sequels as well as episodes of “Columbo” and “NYPD Blue,” among many others.

Speaking to IndieWire in 2017, Cohen — who despite his profession,...

J.J. Abrams and B-Movie Icon Larry Cohen Are Developing an Anthology Series
J.J. Abrams seems to have his fingers in just about everything nowadays, and here's one more thing you can add to that ever-growing list. Abrams is collaborating with B-movie icon Larry Cohen, director of It’s Alive and The Stuff. Together they are developing a fun sounding anthology series.

Cohen has written titles such as Phone Booth, Cellular, and Captivity. But, it’s Cohen’s unique horror B-movies that have the most passionate followers, Abrams being one of them.

During an interview with BrokeHorrorFan, Cohen revealed he’s finished writing a cable series for Abrams and Bad Robot:

"We’re working on a series now for cable with J.J. Abrams, who is a big fan of mine, and his company, Bad Robot. Each season would be 10 original one-hour Larry Cohen thrillers. We’ve got about two seasons already written, ready to be shot. If that happens, it’ll be a whole new renaissance,...

Female superhero adaptations that nearly happened
From Wonder Woman to Red Sonja, here are the female comic book projects that we’ve missed out on…

Although Supergirl, Catwoman and Elektra are movies that exist, there are times when we wish they didn’t. To be honest, the ‘perfect’ female-headlined superhero movie is still the stuff of our cinematic dreams. Saying that, TV’s Agent Carter provided us with a brilliant example of bringing a female comic book character to the small screen earlier this year, which hopefully Hollywood will learn a lot from going forward.

Of course, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel will be joining their respective cinematic universes soon, with Supergirl getting a pop at small screen success too. It looks like female comic book heroes will be getting the attention they deserve in the live action realm, finally.

This isn’t the first time the powers-that-be in Hollywood have tried to launch a slate of female superheroes,...

The Hunchback of Notre Dame Returns in Upcoming Miniseries Ugly
Published way back in 1831, Victor Hugo's novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame has been adapted countless times over the years and turned into a handful of feature films and stage plays. Now our old pal Quasimodo is headed for the small screen. Read on for details!

Variety reports that director Roland Joffe (The Killing Fields, Captivity) has teamed up with FremantleMedia to develop a miniseries titled "Ugly," which is based on Hugo's iconic novel. It will be an eight-part adaptation set in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

The miniseries will begin with the birth of a boy to an aristocratic family. The boy is deformed, and his family abandons him by the roadside in a basket, where he is discovered by a troupe of traveling actors. They name him "Ugly."

The story follows Ugly into adulthood, exploring the nature of beauty and ugliness, what it means to be human,...

2014 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Jon Stewart’s Rosewater
He took a noticeable leave of absence from the Daily Show back in July to shoot a project close to his heart. With an A-team comprised of Shohreh Aghdashloo, Gael García Bernal and the presence of DS gagster Jason Jones, Jon Stewart shot his directorial debut in Jordan side by side with cinematographer Bobby Bukowski (Rampart). If ready on time, it certainly feels like a perfect match between the anti-Argo, Iranian political drama and the politicized festival.

Gist: Written by Jon Stewart, Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy, and based on the Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity, And Survival, this is about a journalist is detained in Iran for more than 100 days and brutally interrogated in prison.

Production Co./Producers: Oddlot’s Gigi Pritzker, Scott Rudin and Stewart. Exec Producing: Lila Yacoub, Eli Bush and Chris McShane.

Prediction: Buyer interest through the roof for...

Your 2013 Halloween Season TV Preview (abridged) with Schedules
Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

So here’s the 2013 Halloween Seasonal TV Preview,...

Drive Director May Be Reworking Maniac Cop!
For those of us still crushing on Ryan Gosling and listening to ‘Nightcall’ on a loop, I have some good news…well, half and half. Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn will be acting as producer for a prequel/remake of B-movie horror/actioner ‘Maniac Cop’ with co-producer William Lustig – the original film’s director. Lustig has also brought on board his old Maniac Cop screenwriter Larry Cohen.

Maniac Cop was a trilogy of films in the late 80′s to early 90′s which depicted a cop who was a…manic…and went around murdering people. Some other cops, good ones, worked on finding and stopping said nut job. It was all very ‘video nasties’ era kitsch. Here is a trailer, just to give you a flavour, “you can fight him or remain silent….forever!”

Now that you’ve seen the trailer, don’t get too excited/angry yet, as “the project isn’t 100% signed off on…...

9 Great Posters for 9 Not-So-Great Movies (that I Haven't Seen) If you missed it, yesterday I explored 11 great posters from 11 not-so-great movies, and I promised today I would take a slightly different angle at the same idea. The Woman in Black & Ghosts of the Past
Since its first publication in 1983, Susan Hill’s Gothic chiller The Woman in Black has been terrorising audiences, from teenagers studying the novel in English lessons to horror aficionados like Mark Kermode, who wrote a chapter on the novel for his PhD in horror fiction. Its reputation has been subsequently enhanced by the long-running stage play, which left the author of this piece so scared, he had to be prised from his chair with a crowbar.

The most recent incarnation of The Woman in Black (our review Here) was released in cinemas on February 10th, with the backing of the reformed Hammer brand and the star power of Daniel Radcliffe in his first proper post-Potter role. It joins a ream of recent ghost stories to make it to our screens, including The Others, The Orphanage and The Awakening. What explains this resurgence for old-fashioned horror of creaks, shadows and suggestion?...

Human Centipede II: should it be banned?
The decision to withhold certification for the horror flick The Human Centipede II in Britain won't stop people from getting hold of it. So does censorship mean anything these days?

The release of a sequel is rarely unalloyed good news in the film world. This rule has once again been demonstrated by The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence), a horror film by the Dutch director Tom Six, which was due to be released in the UK on DVD but refused a certificate by the British Board of Film Classification – not trimmed, not cut, but every single horrible minute found to be objectionable. The BBFC decision has startled many, with some even suggesting that in this new Conservative era, censorship has become politically fashionable once more.

In the first film, a sadistic surgeon kidnaps and drugs three young people and, detaching their entrails on the operating table, uses these to connect...

There Be Dragons Review: You Won't Fool The Children of the Revolution
I didn't think you could actually make a historical biopic in the style of a Spanish soap opera, and There Be Dragons proves me right. It's a deathbed flashback tale -- a journalist examining the history of a Spanish priest who is being considered for canonization (Pope gonna make him a saint) discovers his father has a connection to him. A sinner telling the life of a saint it's like Moulin Rouge without the music or charm -- a painfully melodramatic flick that communicates in overblown cliches and soap opera aphorisms. It comes from Roland Joffe, a filmmaker who has rightfully earned the Francis Ford Coppola Should've Stopped When I Was On Top Honorary Achievement Award for Directing. In the 1980's, he was directing The Killing Fields, The Mission and Fat Man and Little Boy, which led to a decline which saw him directing Super Mario Bros., the Demi Moore The Scarlet Letter,...

Film: Movie Review: There Be Dragons
It’s been a bumpy couple of decades for Roland Joffé. A two-time Oscar-nominated director (for 1984’s The Killing Fields and 1986’s The Mission), Joffé’s more recently been responsible for the notorious box-office bomb The Scarlet Letter; the MTV soap Undressed; the torture porn venture Captivity; and You and I, a teen drama inspired by and featuring the late Russian faux-lesbian pop duo t.A.T.u. Placed against those projects, There Be Dragons all but glows with would-be prestige: It’s a historical epic tracking the very different paths of two childhood friends through the Spanish ...

Elisha Cuthbert

Photo courtesy of ABC/Craig SjodinActress Elisha Cuthbert, who is best known for her role as Kim Bauer on the Fox drama “24” (starring Keifer Sutherland), and such films as “The Girl Next Door” (2004), “House of Wax” (2005), and the heart-pounding thriller “Captivity” (2007), returns to television in the new ABC comedy series “Happy Endings.” Although she is known for her dramatic on-screen performances, Cuthbert is taking on a new challenge – the television sitcom.

But her tightly knit group of friends is still bound together by their determination to negotiate the breakup, while still remaining friends with both Alex and her fiancé Dave.

The Notable Films of 2011: Part Thirteen
Source Code

Opens: April 1st 2011

Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Wright

Director: Duncan Jones

Summary: A decorated soldier discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. The experiment is a program that enables him to re-live another man's identity in the last eight minutes of his life which he must do repeatedly to find the truth.

Analysis: Two years ago British filmmaker Duncan Jones delivered his indie debut feature "Moon", a little seen but critically acclaimed sci-fi tale that was essentially Sam Rockwell acting alone or against himself. It was fresh, innovative, somber and overall heralded the arrival of a director to watch out for. After failing to secure funding for his next project, Jones quickly hopped onto the helm of this high-concept action/time travel blockbuster.

Naturally came the calls of Jones being a sell out, after all the...

Josh Hartnett, Bipasha Basu, and Tamsin Egerton in La Prophétie de l'anneau (2015)
She’ll next be seen getting the run-around from ol’ Ghostface in Scream 4, but Neve Campbell is looking to both the distant past and the near future when considering her next job. She’s in negotiations to join Roland Joffe’s Singularity.Joffe is working on the time-spanning drama, which will star Josh Hartnett as a British captain in colonial India circa 1778, and also as an archaeologist who falls into a coma in 2015.Campbell is close to signing on for the role of Hartnett’s wife in the future tale, a fellow archaeologist who gets into difficulty while trying to unearth a ring from a sunken ship.Olga Kurylenko, Claire van der Boom and Bipsha Basu are also all part of the cast. The director could use a serious kudos injection after the embarrassment that was Captivity’s controversial poster release and disappointing budget. Joffe kicked off shooting last...

There Be Dragons Trailer | Take the Lie as His Principle
Roland Joffe looks like he's trying to get back to his roots with his new film There Be Dragons. (As an aside, who else accidentally reads that as "Randolph Jaffe" instead of "Roland Joffe"? Just me? Okay, moving on). So Joffe got Academy Award nominations for directing his first two films, The Killing Fields and The Mission. He followed those up with Super Mario Brothers. Wow. That's the kind of fact you just look at for a second, nod, and say "yeah, drugs were involved." Maybe he lost a bet. But lest you think he'd get over that speed bump, he's also the director of the abysmal Captivity of 2007.

There Be Dragons on the other hand is a historical drama, set during the Spanish Civil War and focusing on the friendship between a priest (and eventual saint) and a man who becomes a fascist spy. Here's the plot summary:

There Be Dragons...

The Virginity Hit Viral Marketing Billboards Cause Controversy
When the marketing campaign for your indie film manages to attract the attention of local politicians and news media, you know you've done something right. Cheeky billboards for the upcoming Will Ferrell / Adam McKay-produced comedy The Virginity Hit have reportedly been turning heads across the U.S., with many outraged citizens demanding that they be removed. (A similar controversy [1] erupted over billboards for the Elisha Cuthbert horror flick Captivity a few years ago.) The billboards in question advertise a toll-free help line for losing your virginity, and when the phone number is called, a pre-recorded message from the cast members offers humourous advice before directing callers to the movie's website. Pretty clever, right? The movie is about a group of friends who try to help their shy buddy get laid while documenting the whole thing on camera. It's written and directed by the same guys who wrote The Last Exorcism.

Liv Tyler, Patrick Wilson on 'The Ledge'
Liv Tyler
Liv Tyler and Patrick Wilson have been cast in the suspense film "The Ledge" from first-time writer-director Matthew Chapman.

The actors join Terrence Howard and Charlie Hunnam in the story of a man (Hunnam) standing on a high-rise ledge who insists he must jump by noon as the policeman below (Howard) tries to manage the situation.

The film, which is being produced by Michael Mailer ("Loverboy") and Mark Damon ("Monster"), began shooting Monday in Baton Rouge, La.

Executive producers include Howard, Moshe Diamant, Bobby Ranghelov and Tamara Stuparich De La Barra.

" 'The Ledge' examines the different and sometimes dangerous beliefs people adopt as a means of surviving emotional trauma," Chapman said.

Added Mailer: "As more and more films succumb to the visual wizardry of 3D, 'The Ledge' explores the fourth dimension: the interior life of tortured souls hovering over the precipice of emotional nullity. This film...

My Most Painful Movie-Going Experiences of the Aughts
I said last week that I wouldn't be putting together a list of the worst movies of the aughts, because it's an impossible task. There were too many bad movies over the last ten years to consider -- those Movie Movie parodies could make up half the list, easily, leaving another 195 movies to vie for the other five spots. It wasn't just mainstream movies, either. Every dickbag with a credit card and a camcorder thought he could made a movie (thanks, Kevin Smith), and there were enough indie studios out there to push them out of their box-office wombs long enough for us to realize that their little Napoleon Dynamite fetuses should've been aborted in the first trimester. It's hard enough putting together a top ten worst films for one year -- doing it for a decade is near impossible, and in order to do it justice, wouldn't I need...

10 Movie Events That Shaped the Decade (For Movie Fans)
We’ve come to the end of 2009, so we thought we’d weigh in with a look back at the first 10 years of the 21st century in the movie world and discuss the various different “events” which shaped the decade. Obviously we can’t cover absolutely everything, but sticking true to our core movie genres on the site, we’re just going to concentrate on the comic-book, sci-fi, action (and so forth) types of movies and take a look at what films had the maximum impact over this decade.

It’s amazing to think that it’s been 10 years since movies like The Matrix, American Beauty and Fight Club (to name but a few) came out in 1999 (check out our 1999 decade highlight, if you haven’t already). A Lot of movies – somewhere in the vicinity of 5,000-6,000 – have been released since then. We’ve had the good, the bad and...

Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man (2002)
When Viral Marketing Goes Wrong
Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man (2002)
"2012" may have destroyed the box office this weekend, but it also did plenty of damage to Nasa, who received thousands of letters and phone calls from concerned citizens that the world was going to end in just over two years -- so much so that Nasa set up a site to specifically debunk their fears. Roland Emmerich's latest disaster flick would've inevitably inspired some to panic regardless, but these calls got an assist from Sony's viral marketing campaign for the film, which included a web site devoted to The Institute for Human Continuity that, among other things, offers visitors an opportunity to register for a lottery to increase their chance of survival when the apocalypse strikes. The move inspired some, like Stuart McGurk at the Guardian to look at the ways viral marketing "can go bad." I'd like to add to the pile four more risky movie marketing maneuvers that bombed,...

After Dark Horrorfest 4 Spits on Brian Pulido's 'The Graves'
  • The extremely popular traveling roadshow of horror films has just divulged the first title to join the 2010 line-up. After Dark Films announced that Brian Pulido's The Graves will be one of the lucky eight in Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For 4, which has found its niche releasing dates to be the best around not Halloween, but the end of January, beginning of February timeframe. Previous editions have included Sean Ellis's The Broken (III) and Frontier(s) Xavier Gens (II), and the label has in turn individually released An American Haunting and Roland Joffe's Captivity.  In what seems to be a good old-fashioned, low budget horror genre (see clip here), The Graves is about two inseparable sisters, Megan and Abby Graves, are taking one last wild road trip before Megan has to start a new job. The journey includes a trip through remote Arizona in search of a kitchy roadside attraction.

Robert Hall Talks Laid to Rest and Beyond
Like most fans, director Robert Hall found watching horror films to be an avenue of escapism. “I immediately found a connection with horror, especially since I didn’t have the greatest childhood,” said Hall. “This was all way before the age of social networking so I was living in the middle of ‘Podunk’ and everyone around me just thought I was some Satanic weirdo.”

“Horror is this beautiful, violent art form and I guess I just always felt my love for it burning deep inside me early on. I always had a fascination with horror. When most people were scared or grossed out, I just wanted to figure out how other filmmakers made these things happen on the screen.”

Robert Hall put that fascination to good use early in his life as he focused on effects processes as well as creating masks. When he was in his late teens Hall...

Re-Animator Remake Details and Casting News!
Well, boys and girls, it looks like we now know who the new Herbert West is going to be. But first things first.

According to HorrorMovies.ca (but unconfirmed): "Producers Brian Yuzna (the original Re-Animator) and Ray Haboush (The Last House of the Left) have confirmed in an exclusive interview [with] Spanish magazine 'Fotogramas' that they are going ahead with the remake of Re-Animator. The remake will be shot entirely in Spain and will start as early as next summer!"

Other details include the news that what we'll be seeing isn't a "new chapter" but rather a true remake of the original, and yes, Jeffrey Combs will have a small part. So, if Jeffrey isn't reprising the role of Dr. West, who can we expect to see don the white lab coat? None other than Ezra Godden, whose name might not be all that familiar but surely the face is.

'24' Having Elisha Cuthbert Again
Elisha Cuthbert is confirmed to reprise her old role as Kim Beau in Fox's action drama television series entitled "24". Michael Ausiello recently says, "Cuthbert has inked a deal to reprise her role as Jack's lightning rod of an offspring for a season-ending arc that will no doubt trigger a new round of wholly outdated and painfully unfunny cougar jokes."

Elisha is indeed set to appear at the end of the season, which shows that the fictional character Kim will return without her old boyfriend C. Thomas Howell by her side as their relationship has ended. Instead of having a new lover, Kim will bear a child. The seventh season will begin in January 2009.

Elisha has played in the TV series during the first three seasons and returned for a brief stint during the fifth season. Outside the real-time show, she has starred in movies including "The Girl Next Door" and...

You and I: What Happened to Roland Joffe?

Last year we saw the release of the torture porn categorized Captivity (featuring Elisha Cuthbert) and has followed-up with a tale of falling in love in the heart of Russia that will attract that same demo.  Formerly titled "Finding t.A.T.u", Joffe's latest is adapted from the novel "t.A.T.u come back" by Russian writer A. Zombie's 'Halloween' a boxoffice killer
Like a cat with nine lives, Halloween pounced on the North American boxoffice during the Labor Day weekend, taking in an estimated $31 million that set a record for the four-day holiday frame. Director Rob Zombie's remake of John Carpenter's classic 1978 slasher movie might have been the eighth film spun off from the original, but it capped off a heated moviegoing season that saw the summer 2007 boxoffice set a record with $4.3 billion, according to estimates by The Hollywood Reporter.

Weekend moviegoers also sampled the martial arts comedy Balls of Fury, which ranked third for the four days with an estimated $13.8 million. But they mostly ignored the revenge thriller Death Sentence, which scrounged up only an estimated $5.2 million as it entered the market in eighth place.

The top 10 films for the weekend grossed an estimated $112.7 million, up 26% compared with the $89.2 million that the top 10 earned during the same frame a year ago, according to Nielsen EDI. The weekend also set a boxoffice record for the holiday.

With its estimated $4.3 billion haul, summer 2007 supplants summer 2004 ($4 billion) as the top grosser in Hollywood history, though with estimated admissions hitting 631.4 million, this year will fall short of the record 668.1 million admissions set in summer 2002.

Halloween, an MGM release of a Dimension Films title, earned its Labor Day weekend record by easily topping 20th Century Fox's actioner Transporter 2, which set its mark by grossing $20.1 million during the four-day frame in 2005. It also surpassed the top gross on a Labor Day weekend, which The Sixth Sense established in 1999 when it collected $29.3 million in its fifth weekend.

Bowing in 3,472 theaters, where it earned a per-theater average of $8,932, Halloween enjoyed the widest opening ever for an R-rated horror movie as well as the widest opening ever for the new MGM, which notched its first No. 1 opening in the weekend heats.

Although commentators were writing off the R-rated horror genre this summer after disappointing returns for Hostel: Part II ($17.6 million total gross) and Captivity ($2.6 million), Halloween played like an injection of fresh blood.
