Jenny Slate isn’t exactly a newcomer, but she’s entered that period of her career where people are recognizing her on the street — even if they can’t quite put their finger on where they’ve seen her before. But it’s hard to blame them, because Slate is everywhere these days.

“It’s a bunch of Marcel the Shell and Mona-Lisa [Saperstein],” Slate said when IndieWire recently asked her what roles she’s most often recognized for. “I find that in New York, and especially in Brooklyn, it’s a lot of ‘Obvious Child’ people, which is really nice. A lot of people think that I’m one of the women from ‘Broad City’ — and I’m just not.”

Online streaming outfit Netflix is getting into the Nick Kroll business (and, also apparently the animated puberty comedy business). Deadline reports that Netflix has picked up “Big Mouth, ” a 10-epsiode, half-hour comedy from Kroll and his real-life Bff Andrew Goldberg (best known for his writing work on “Family Guy”) that follows the wild world of “teenaged adventures in puberty.”

The duo created the series alongside screenwriters/directors Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, and all four will serve as executive producers on the series.

Kroll and comedian pal John Mulaney will voice the main characters (Nick and Andrew, of course) in what is described as an “edgy surreal comedy.” They will be joined by Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele, Fred Armisen, Jenny Slate and Jessi Klein, who will also contribute their voice talents to the show.

“There are few things that keep me up at night…Nick Kroll’s adventures in puberty is one of them, so we greenlit this series with very few questions asked,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix VP of original content of the news to pick up “Big Mouth.”

Kroll added, “Andrew and I have been best friends since 1st grade, so this show is over 30 years in the making. I can’t wait to tell all the stories that make up the glorious nightmare of puberty.”

Incidentally, Kroll will soon appear in another raucous animated outing, “Sausage Party,” in which he is voicing an actual douche.

Despite being a first time feature filmmaker, if Sophie Goodhart were to get into Sundance…it wouldn’t be her first visit. She started off in the biz when her 2003 short was accepted into Cannes Palme d’Or short comp, but Goodhart was 1/3rd of the scribes involved in the Sundance Film Fest’s Next section selected Homewrecker from directors Todd and Brad Barnes. Shot in Cleveland this past May, she took the basis and the title of her short film and lined up a feature version of it with an attention grabbing cast: Adam Scott, Jenny Slate and Nick Kroll. My Blind Brother is the sort of material that might actually fall into the U.S. Dramatic Comp which recently proved that you don’t need to be a strict drama to be included in that category, but a Premieres directorial debut could also be in the cards.

Chad Hartigan‘s This Is Martin Bonner landed the filmmaker the coveted John Cassavetes Award at the 2013 Indie Spirit Awards, and his follow-up landed a nicely mixed bunch of actors (Craig Robinson, Carla Juri) including a newbie child protag (newcomer Markees Christmas). Production on Morris From America took place in Germany thus summer. This will indeed be ready for Park City.

Gist: This is a coming-of-age tale about a 13-year-old hip-hop-loving American boy Morris (Christmas) who moves to Heidelberg with his father (Robinson) and is forced to navigate the trials and tribulations of adolescence in a foreign place.

Now comes word that, an American selected 2013 short will have a growth spurt of sorts, with Deadline reporting that Sophie Goodhart‘s comedy, the feature version of My Blind Brother has nabbed the cast of Adam Scott, Jenny Slate, Nick Kroll and Charlie Hewson. Low Spark Films’ Tyler Davidson will produce with Tory Tunnell (Holy Rollers). Low Sparks’ Kevin Flanigan and Safehouse Pictures’ Joby Harold are exec producers with Joseph E. LoConti. Production will begin this May in Ohio.

Gist: Scott will play a handsome man who gets all the women and is the perfect athlete–even though he’s blind. Kroll plays his less handsome brother, whose role in life is to serve as his brother’s eyes.
