People sometimes forget that the creatives behind family films aren't also the same age as the children who will fall in love with their work, and in fact have their own collection of personal favorite films that aren't always kid-friendly. Patrick Casey and Josh Miller are the screenwriting team behind the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie, and will be joined by John Whittington of "The Lego Batman Movie" and "The Lego Ninjago Movie" for the sequel, "Sonic the Hedgehog 2." Casey and Miller are frequent collaborators, having penned the scripts for "National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze," "Golan the Insatiable," and the...

Paul Rudd may be making his way to the world of video game movies in the very near future. The Ant-Man and the Wasp star is reportedly being eyed for a lead role in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which is being put together at Paramount Pictures following Sony abandoning the project after years of development with nothing to show for it. Paramount, on the other hand, isn't wasting any time as the movie is set to begin filming this summer and will arrive in theaters next year. Now, it appears as though they have their eyes on a big star to help add to the project's appeal.
Details on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie are currently a bit scarce, but it's being reported that Paul Rudd, should he ultimately sign on for the role, will play a cop named Tom. In the movie, Tom will team up with Sonic and,...

The season-five premiere of Workaholics ("Dorm Daze") had some pretty raunchy moments, the most peculiar perhaps involving a dog, an anus, the Coast Guard, and a soda on a hot day. TMZ reports that the Coast Guard, naturally, was not thrilled with the way the show portrayed its ranks in the episode, which also included a reference to a gang bang. The Coast Guard's chairman of the sexual assault prevention council, judge advocate general, and director of governmental and public affairs wrote a scathing letter to show and network executives in response, saying that Viacom and Comedy Central's audiences deserve better: While the episode's storyline about military recruiters may have intended to present a humorous and self-deprecating look at service rivalries, the portrayal of military members lining up to take part in a pornographic film, participating in a vile hazing incident which included both an illegal criminal act of...

Chicago – Fans of the 1990s series “Boy Meets World” would probably still like to meet the actress that portrayed Topanga, Danielle Fishel. For seven seasons, she was the dream girl for the the title “Boy,” Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), and has recently wrote her memoir, called “Normally This Would Be Cause for Concern.” She is also featured on the 2014 Disney Channel spin-off, “Girl Meets World.”
Danielle was ten years old when she began doing commercials, and was 12 when landed the role of Topanga Lawrence on “Boy Meets World.” What began as a one-off role became a seven season run for the character, and Danielle made the cover of Seventeen Magazine and was voted one of the “The Hottest 21 Stars under 21” in Teen People Magazine. After the show ended, she appeared in a few films, including “National Lampoon’s Dorm Daze” (2003). She also hosted several TV shows, including Style Network’s “The Dish,...

David Hillenbrand takes us on an unrated trip through Transylmania
Transylmania, the latest comedy outing from Dorm Daze creators David and Scott Hillenbrand, is finally making its long awaited DVD debut on April 27th. The film reunites the cast from National Lampoon's Dorm Daze franchise, and finds a motley crew of college students embarking on the wildest, sexiest, most outrageous semester abroad ever at famed Romanian cultural outpost Razvan University. Located deep in the heart of the "cursed land" of Transylvania in a centuries-old castle, Razvan isn't your typical institution of higher learning. And the black leather-clad professors, three-foot-tall dean, instruction in crucifix-wielding, and topless vampiresses lurking in dark corners are just the start in this laugh riot that ignites the screen with sexiness. We recently caught up with David to find out more about the film. Here's our conversation with Mr. Hillenbrand:
Most modern spoof films are truly awful.

If you are reading this right now, then chances are you did not see the vampire comedy Transylmania when it opened on 1,000 screens this past December to the fourth lowest wide release opening weekend per theater average of all time. And you are better off that way.
Ostensibly Transylmania (review here) is the third installment in the Dorm Daze DVD franchise. Directors David and Scott Hillenbrand apparently got it in their heads that they could ride the Twilight bandwagon with their alleged comedy about college dimwits spending a semester at a Transylvanian university that used to be a vampire’s castle, rebranded Dorm Daze 3 as Transylmania, and somehow organized a 1,000-theater release whereby it grossed a whopping $397,641 (according to Box Office Mojo). $5.50 of that came out of my pocket -- time and money I will never get back.
But if you are a glutton for punishment, DVDActive has word on...

Audience apathy drove a stake through the heart of vampire spoof Transylmania at the weekend when it became a spectacular, record-breaking box office flop.
The R-rated, low-budget indie horror comedy - about a group of college kids on a semester at Razvan University in Romania - had the worst American opening in history for a movie playing at more than 1,000 venues.
It earned an abysmal $263, 941, taking the record of shame for worst debut ever from 1991's Rich Girl. On review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, it has a rating of 0 per cent. Yes, that's a zero.
It also had the third worst movie opening in more than 600 cinemas, behind New Market's 2005 recut of The Passion of the Christ and 2008 indie drama Proud American.
The 92-minute spoof, which premiered at the American Film Market in November 2008 and later screened at the European Film Market in February 2009, was directed by brothers David and...

Recently Dread Central scribe Heather Wixson caught up with actor Patrick Cavanaugh to get the scoop on Transylmania and to maybe nibble a bit on the other white meat.
Heather Wixson: What can you tell us about your character, Pete?
Patrick Cavanaugh: Well, I consider Pete a lovable loser. He is a typical college dude who would rather drink and get high than go to class. He loves to hang out with his buddy Wang and basically see how much trouble they can get into.
Hw: What was it like working on the set of Transylmania? The trailers look hilarious so I was wondering if you had just as much fun making the movie as it looks like it was to shoot?
PC: We had an absolute Blast making this movie. I mean, first of all, we got to spend seven weeks in a far off land, making a...

I eagerly anticipated the release of your obviously carefully crafted piece of work. This time of year, with the awards season looming over us like an impending teabagging, we critics often get mired down with an abundance of quality. And working for a website that prides itself on providing "scathing reviews for bitchy people," it becomes quite difficult to muster up any amount of scorn or sarcasm for movies that are actually pretty gosh darn splendid. But once in a while, glinting on the horizon like an approaching train chock full of the spoiled offal of a thousand criminally insane inmates, a film of such odiousness, such rapturous disregard for not just taste or decency, but the basic concept of a story or even simply having people act comes chug, chug, chugging along. This is purportedly the third installment of National Lampoon's Dorm Daze saga, but without the moniker brazenly...

Delivering all the laughs and frights that inevitably accompany a film with the word “mania” in the title, Transylmania is a predictably rotten horror-comedy that somewhat unpredictably doesn’t take the spoof route followed by so many other rotten horror-comedies of late. Instead, it’s half tediously unfunny college sex romp—featuring characters who originally yukked it up in the low-rent, straight-to-dvd National Lampoon’s Dorm Daze franchise—and half vampire-movie cash-grab. Transylmania is so inept that it even fails as an adolescent breast-delivery device—teen boys either will have to sneak into theaters or desperately count the weeks until ...

What I expected from Transylmania was a barrage of tired teen sex comedy gags shoehorned into a vampire movie spoof, and while Transylmania certainly delivered all of the exposed silicon breasts, pot smoking, and gross-out gags I anticipated, there's something downright quaint about the film -- a retro quality that I wasn't expecting. It's more of an old-fashioned hassle-in-the-castle farce, stuffed to the gills with dusty comedy relics like a character under a hypnotic spell that causes her to change personality at inopportune times or an ever-so-wacky case of mistaken identity featuring a college doofus who ends up being a dead-ringer for a vampiric overlord. This is dinosaur stuff. A rubber chicken and a squirting flower would've really capped things off.
Oren Skroog plays Rusty, pretty much the least believable college student I've ever seen in a movie, opening the film with a lengthy cast introduction montage, in case you...

I’m thinking this is what happened: The “creative” team of directors David and Scott Hillenbrand and writers Worm Miller and Patrick Casey -- who previously brought us the beloved and acclaimed Oscar winner National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze -- were sitting around toking up one night, and someone said, “Semester abroad in Transylvania!” And cinematic history was made. Next Friday, December 4, there are four films opening wide: the potential awards contenders Everybody’s Fine (trailer here) and Brothers (trailer)... and Armored (trailer), which will not screen for critics, and this film, which I also suspect will not screen for critics. I guess that’s clever counterprogramming, and it’s probably safe to assume that the people who wish to avoid potential awards contenders are probably not bright enough to catch on that they’re being particularly targeted that weekend because they’re neither choosy nor discriminating.

When Leslie Nielsen appeared at the Toronto Fan Expo this past weekend, it wasn't based on recognition for his popular role as Frank Drebin from Police Squad. Rather, it was to promote his latest spoof film, Stan Helsing, directed by Bo Zenga, producer of the original Scary Movie. Haven't heard of it? Well, that could be because it is going direct to DVD on October 27th. At the same time, a trailer has arrived online this week for another terrible looking horror parody called Transylmania. Directed by Scott and David Hillenbrand (National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze), this is just basically another college frat comedy transplanted to vampire country (Romania). Stan Helsing may have the "star power" of Leslie Nielsen and Kenan Thompson, but Transylmania is the one that is apparently getting a theatrical release on December 4th. Go figure. Compare the trailers for both flicks after the jump and help...

Even before the Twilight revolution, vampires were in. Before pink was the new black, vampire movies were making their way into the mainstream with a vengeance. And now, with franchises like the aforementioned teen broodfest Twilight and the low-down and dirty HBO series True Blood, it seems that we just can't escape the fangs of a vampire-crazy culture. Which makes the whole thing ripe for spoofing. Enter brothers David and Scott Hillenbrand, the writer/director team behind such gems as King Cobra, National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze and the ever-popular Dorm Daze 2. They are taking the vampire fad to task in their new movie, Transylmania, a spoof that appears to be one part Twilight, one part wannabe Monster Squad (I stress the word wannabe) and one part ever other National Lampoons Presents movie of the past 5 years. Except, based on the trailer below, this movie looks downright awful. Not awful in the Friedberg/Seltzer sense, but...
