Twin Peaks returned to TV ​on ​Sunday ​after 27 years and it was every bit as scary, twisted and confusing as the original -- though we expected nothing less from David Lynch.

In the two-hour premiere, there were two distinct threads happening: one with the show's original characters and one featuring new faces and new mysteries. They eventually intersected, but for much of the first hour it was a lot of introducing seemingly unrelated things, most of which were happening outside the titular small Washington town.

The Visit (Sept 11)

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious series) welcome you to Universal Pictures’ The Visit. Shyamalan returns to his roots with the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip.

Eddie Murphy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Lopez, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Margot Robbie will be presenters at this year’s Oscars, show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced on Thursday. The Oscars, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, will air on Sunday, February 22, live on ABC.

Murphy received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role in the 2006 film “Dreamgirls.” He has starred in such features as “Bowfinger” (1999), “The Nutty Professor” (1996), “Coming to America” (1988), “Beverly Hills Cop” (1984) and “48 Hrs.” (1982), and has lent his voice talents to all four of the “Shrek” animated features to date. He will next be seen in the independent drama “Cook.”

Ejiofor received his first Oscar nomination last year for his lead performance in “12 Years a Slave.” He previously appeared in such features as “Salt” (2010), “American Gangster” (2007), “Children of Men” (2006) and “Dirty Pretty Things” (2003). His upcoming films include “Z for Zachariah” and “Triple Nine.

People were generally divided into two schools of thought on HBO’s solemn, mysterious drama The Leftovers. Either you appreciated it as a thoughtful examination of grief and loss, or you dismissed it as an overwrought exercise in misery porn. And though its ratings weren’t anything to write home about, HBO did renew the show for a second season, so showrunners Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta will have another chance to engage viewers. Intriguingly, they’ll be changing things up quite a bit in order to do so.

According to Deadline, The Leftovers will be leaving the town of Mapleton behind to an as-of-yet unknown new setting. Part and parcel with that, multiple characters who played a role in the first season won’t be returning. Out of the 14 stars of the first season, only the leads are set to reprise their roles. That includes Justin Theroux as Mapleton...

The penultimate first season episode of The Leftovers takes us back in time three years, to the days leading up to the Sudden Departure. And, although the hour shows us exactly what its title promises — “The Garveys at Their Best” — it also reveals the cracks in the foundation of the family that probably would’ve broken it up even if the world hadn’t been turned upside-down. A review of tonight's "The Leftovers" coming up just as soon as I listen to a little Hall & Oates... "But there can't be any doubt, Laurie. Because doubt is fire. And fire is gonna burn you up, until you are but ash." -Patti Episode 3 of "The Leftovers" was the one most critics cited as the moment where they went all-in with the show, and the reaction from many of you suggested the same. Doing a single-pov story every week — especially one with as narrow a focus as "Two Boats and a Helicopter" — isn't an easy thing to pull off, nor does it seem like what Lindelof and Perrotta want to do, given the size and scope of the broken world they're depicting. But "Gladys" does a very effective job of splitting the difference between the tunnel vision of episode 3 and the broader ensemble pieces we've gotten in the other installments.

Back in October, MTV ordered two new comedy pilots: the pseudo-lesbian high school series Faking It, which earned a second season renewal in June, and Happyland, a soapy teen dramedy that dives into the not-so-glamorous behind-the-scenes reality of a popular theme park.

It’s CastingPalooza over at Damon Lindelof‘s drama pilot The Leftovers for HBO. We told you earlier today about casting for another pilot, that one to be run by Lindelof’s former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse, but still, we’re always hesitant to talk too much about pilots. We’ve had our hearts broken too many times in the past by pilots that are never turned into series *cough* Locke & Key *cough* Mockingbird Lane *cough*.

Still, things are looking good for Cuse’s pilot, and with all the casting news lately, they’re looking similarly good for Lindelof. Joining the throng of actors who’ve signed up to be a Leftover are former elf Liv Tyler (the Lord of the Rings trilogy) and the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston. Yes, a Doctor for the Lindelof pilot, just as another Doctor has signed up for the Cuse pilot. Weird, right?

HBO is preparing to film a new drama pilot adapted from the Tom Perrotta novel, The Leftovers. In today’s news four actors sign on to the pilot, to be directed by Peter Berg, the man who also directed The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights and Battleship.

Writer and producer Damon Lindelof is behind The Leftovers. He was a co-creator, writer and co-executive producer for the cult series, Lost. He also served as a writer form Prometheus and Star Trek Into Darkness. Do we have your attention yet?

Deadline made the announcement this week about the deals closing for actors Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Christopher Eccleston and Amanda Warren. These four will appear in the pilot with star Justin Theroux.

ABC is preparing a six-hour miniseries based on author Laura Ingalls Wilder's enduring stories of American frontier life. Sources said that Ed Friendly, producer of the 1970s Little House on the Prairie TV series who has long shepherded the film and TV rights to the Wilder books, is executive producing the ambitious project. Feature scribe Katie Ford, whose recent credits include Miss Congeniality and CBS' Lucille Ball biopic Lucy, is on board to pen the script; David Cunningham will direct, sources said. ABC declined to comment on the project Friday. It's understood that the mini will air under the Wonderful World of Disney telefilm banner, probably as a sweeps-month event.
