Plot: A middle-aged businessman (Nicolas Cage) returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to reconnect with his son and Australian roots. However, he discovers that the beach is now dominated by a local surf gang, who refuse to let non-locals hit the waves.
Review: Australian cinema has a long history of psychological dramas that probe the psyche of the Aussie male. North American audiences have always been somewhat taken with the stereotypical macho Australian. For proof, one need only note their outsized impact on the film industry, with many of the biggest stars being of Australian descent, like Mel Gibson, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, and many others. Yet, as much as they seem to celebrate their rough and tumble nature, their movies have always been more introspective about such things, and director Lorcan Finnegan’s The Surfer fits into that mould.

FX’s Shōgun continued its awards sweep from the Emmys at the Golden Globes, winning the Best Television Series – Drama category in addition to Lead Actor in a Television Series – Drama for Hiroyuki Sanada, Lead Actress for Anna Sawai and Supporting Actor for Tadanobu Asano.
Unlike the Emmys, where FX’s adaptation of James Clavell’s novel competed as a drama and the 1980 NBC take as a miniseries, at the Globes both incarnations were classified as drama series, so Season 1 of the FX saga took the same Drama Series category its predecessor did 44 years ago.
Just as he did at the Emmys, Justin Marks, Shōgun co-creator, executive producer and showrunner alongside his wife, Rachel Kondo, accepted the top drama award. He framed his speech with an amusing domesticity anecdote.
“Yesterday, Rachel and I were scouring the ferns of our house looking for a 50-pound tortoise that we adopted for some reason that keeps escaping.

Let’s face it, no family is dysfunctional quite like the Bluths. The cult classic sitcom, Arrested Development, first aired in 2003 and redefined the chaotic comedy with its mix of zany characters and absurdly tangled storyline. From a banana stand with “always money in it” to endless chicken dances, the show has given us unforgettable moments and a memorable cast that felt more like a bizarrely entertaining extended family than fictional characters.
Leading the madness was Jason Bateman as Michael Bluth, the so-called “responsible” one trying to hold his trainwreck of a family together. Then there’s Will Arnett as Gob, the magician with an ego bigger than his tricks, and Portia de Rossi as Lindsay, the ultra-glamorous activist with questionable motives.

The new sports crime series from Ryan Murphy has become a streaming hit. The prolific creator and mega-producer has a long history on the small screen, going back to the teen drama Popular which aired on The WB in the late 1990s and into the 2000s. He then moved on to Nip/Tuck, which ran from 2003 to 2010 on FX. However, Murphy became one of television's most well-known names with the one-two punch of Glee and American Horror Story in the early 2010s.
Murphy continues to be a prolific producer, and 2024 has proven to be an exceptionally busy year for the creator. He has procedural dramas on broadcast television, with the 9-1-1 shows and Doctor Odyssey, both of which he co-created. And on streaming, thanks to an exemption in his deal with Disney's 20th Television, he is allowed to continue work on his existing Netflix shows like Monster season 3 while also developing new series for ABC,...

Ryan Murphy has been a major player in television since the early 2000s, having written, directed, and produced numerous hit shows, including series like Nip/Tuck, Glee, and American Horror Story. On the other hand, Murphy has faced criticism and controversy for some of his work. American Horror Story, while popular overall, has been known for being a hit or miss show that varies in quality from season to season. Further, his Monster series has faced accusations of being insensitive and sensationalizing real-life tragedies. Through his ups and downs, however, his true crime miniseries, The People v. O.J. Simpson, continues to stand out as his best show, and a classic of true-crime dramatizations.

The best Oliver Platt movies and TV shows include a mix of critically acclaimed shows and award-winning big screen feature films. Platt figured out from an early age that he wanted to be an actor and studied drama at Tufts University before starting to work in theater in Boston. His big break came when he met Bill Murray, who attended one of Platt's plays and then recommended that Jonathan Demme cast him in the movie Married to the Mob in 1988. That was Platt's big break and his career skyrocketed from there.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Days of Our Lives episodes airing Friday, October 18, and Monday, October 21.] A year into filming at Days of our Lives, AnnaLynne McCord admits she wasn’t expecting to feel such a deep connection to the job. “I was introduced to the world of television through Nip/Tuck [as Eden Lord] and then 90210 [as Naomi Clark], so it was a very different experience,” she explains. “I did not know that you could have the family energy that we have at Days. And I say ‘we’ now because I’m no longer an outsider guest; I’m officially a part of the group. It’s like my old theater days and everybody is just running around, in our dressing rooms, in the hallways finding our costars for the day and running lines, and there’s just a kind of old Hollywood magic to it. It’s been so much fun. It’s what my...

Ryan Murphy has heard the questions about the naming conventions of his various FX series, but he doesn’t see the validity in them.
The TV mogul tells Deadline that he would “strongly disagree” with suggestions that Grotesquerie should have been under the American Horror Story banner, or that Aaron Hernandez’s story would’ve been better suited as a new installment of American Crime Story rather than the first in a new anthology series, American Sports Story.
“Grotesquerie has nothing in common with American Horror Story. It just does not. I think it’s the difference between doing Don’t Look Now and Halloween would could never have fit into that show. It was never considered for that. It’s a much different animal,” he said of the new horror series starring Niecy Nash, which revealed a huge turn in the story that Murphy and FX Chief John Landgraf also discussed with Deadline.

We still don’t know much about Travis Kelce’s role in “Grotesquerie,” but we finally know how it came to be. During a press conference for the upcoming FX horror drama, series creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy revealed he wrote the role “specifically” for the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
The role came about after Kelce had a general meeting with Murphy to discuss the football star’s interest in acting. During that meeting, Murphy gave Kelce some “fatherly advice.” Murphy described the meeting as “lovely” and said that it ended with the showrunner telling Kelce he would keep him in mind and that maybe the two would come up with something down the road.
That’s when Kelce pushed back.
“He said, ‘No, I want to do it now. I have three months now, and I really would love to have anything,'” Murphy recalled on Monday.

The Ryan Murphy legal drama starring Kim Kardashian, All's Fair, is getting a boost to its cast. The ensemble series by Murphy is taking place in his TV universe, so naturally, the new additions to the cast include his regular muses. It has been revealed that Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, Teyana Taylor, and Naomi Watts are all joining Kardashian and Glenn Close for the Hulu TV show which will inaugurate Murphy's contract with the streamer.
Kardashian has been attached to the ensemble drama from the very start.
