The Stranger Beside Me

Not Only Was Ted Bundy Married, but the Way He Proposed Was Extremely Unorthodox

Of all the true crime stories that have captured the public's attention recently, few are as twisted and infamous as Ted Bundy. The serial killer of the 1970s has been the subject of several new pieces of media, with a feature film starring Zac Efron on the horizon later this year. Bundy was known for using his charm to gain the trust of the young women he later brutally assaulted and murdered, but there was one woman he was close to but never attacked: Carole Ann Boone, the woman who actually married him.

Unlike many of the women Bundy charmed, only to turn on them and attack them, Boone seemed to be a true ally to Bundy. The couple apparently met during the time Bundy was in Olympia, Wa, in the earlier days of his crime spree. She worked for the state's Department of Emergency Services,...

Stephen Colbert
Celebs like to curl up with interesting reads, too.

In the most recent episode of PeopleTV’s Shelf Life, Chrissy Teigen, Megan Mullally and Stephen Colbert share their favorite books… as of right now. Chrissy Teigen: The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule

“I am about half way done with Ann Rule’s The Stranger Beside Me,...

Who Was Ted Bundy? A Look at the Notorious Serial Killer’s Trail of Terror
Zac Efron at an event for En pleine nature avec Bear Grylls (2014)
Editor’s note: This story was originally published on May 12, 2016. On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Zac Efron had been cast as Ted Bundy in an upcoming film.

Serial killer Ted Bundy, who died in Florida’s electric chair in 1989, concealed his terrifying trail of terror for years while moving constantly about the country.

That he was arrested, jailed on a charge of murder and then escaped – twice – to continue his rampage only adds to his horrifying legacy of at least 30 murders of women between 1973 and 1978.

Bundy is back in the headlines after the publication of a new book by a survivor,...

Ted Bundy Attack Survivor Explains Why She Kept Silent - and Why She's Talking Now
Clint Eastwood in Jugé coupable (1999)
For 37 years Rhonda Stapley kept a terrible secret. Raped in 1974 as a 21-year-old University of Utah student, she blamed herself for accepting a ride from a stranger. She feared that if her mother found out, she'd yank her out of school. At the time the young Mormon also was a virgin. "I imagined people whispering, 'That's that girl who was raped,'" Stapley, now a 62-year-old grandmother, tells People exclusively. "I didn't want attention. I still don't." But her trauma went deeper. The good-looking man who offered a ride in his Volkswagen Beetle and gave his name as Ted had...

We also find ourselves growing fond of out-and-proud actors that have opted to play it straight thats why its called acting, people and vice versa.

So when their shows are cancelled or taken off the air before they wear out their welcome (whatever, I still miss Sex and the City on Sunday nights, ok?), it can be a little bit difficult to see them slide into other TV roles easier than Lindsay Lohan checking into another rehab (Im rootin for you, girl).

Alas, sometimes that isnt always the case, which might have you asking yourself, Where are they now? In some cases for these actors, it could be taken as a query of, Where did they disappear to?

But for curiosity's (and manner's) sake,...
