When Bosch first premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2014, the streaming world was in a very different place. Netflix had only House of Cards and Orange is the New Black under its belt. Hulu was still a joint venture owned by multiple conglomerates. Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock didn’t even exist. Now, in June 2021, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases is highlighted by one last outing for LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.
Bosch season 7 premieres on June 25. This will be the last batch of episodes for the series, before a spinoff gets rolling for IMDb TV. For those who are not caught up on the sprawling procedural, Amazon has some other original TV series this month as well. Brazilian crime drama Dom premieres on June 4. That will be followed by the second season of the Anna Paquin-starring public relations drama Flack on June 25.

Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

Christmas is coming early to Netflix, with the streaming platform adding a host of new holiday movies to its November lineup.
Kicking off the month is “Angela’s Christmas” — an animated feature about a young Irish girl — followed by another heartwarming holiday tale, “The Holiday Calendar,” about a young photographer who discovers a magical advent calendar that can predict the future. Later on, Netflix is releasing the much anticipated follow-up to “A Christmas Prince,” revisiting the characters of Prince Richard (Ben Lamb) and Amber (Rose McIver), as she begins to question her upcoming wedding and the ascension to royalty that comes with it.
Viewers who aren’t in the mood for Christmas cheer will also be able to watch the final season of “House of Cards” on Nov. 2 — this time sans Kevin Spacey and with Claire Underwood serving as president. A number of popular films are also coming to the streaming platform,...

Beginning with the animated film “Angela’s Christmas” on Nov. 1, Netflix is adding several holiday movies to its streaming slate, including “The Holiday Calendar,” “The Princess Switch,” and “A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding.” Hulu and Amazon Prime are also following suit with “A Cinderella Christmas” on Nov. 15 and “Christmas With the Kranks” on Nov. 1, respectively.
November is also seeing the premiere of several platform originals, including the final season of Netflix’s “House of Cards” and Julia Roberts’ Amazon Prime debut, “Homecoming.” The documentary “McQueen” is also joining Amazon’s slate while Netflix will launch “Doctor Strange,” “Sixteen Candles,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.” Hulu will see a similarly large influx of new films, including “Goldeneye,” “Amelie,” and “Kick-Ass.”

August 2005 was a much simpler time: The first iPhone was still two years away from being released, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo was in theaters, and Prison Break debuted on Fox. After two prison escapes, an Ocean’s Eleven-style reset, four seasons, and a TV movie, the hit series signed off in 2009.
Now, with Fox reviving many of its greatest hits (please let Fastlane be next), Michael, Lincoln, Sara, T-Bag, Sucre, and C-Note are back. I know what you’re thinking: “Wait, but didn’t Michael die at the end of Prison Break?...

Researchers at The Institute For The Study Of No Duh—a.k.a. marketing research firm GfK—have revealed that a majority of people have never rented or purchased a digital copy of a TV episode or film. (Fun fact: you can perform a similar, if more informal, study, by turning your head to the left and right and asking the people near you whether they’ve ever rented a show online.) The study shows that only 46 percent of consumers have worked up the nerve to step into the digital locker room, with most sticking to their DVDs, or forgoing ownership entirely and sticking to streaming.
Even for those willing to make the plunge, their digital collections are far smaller than the old towers of DVDs. (And offer way fewer opportunities to judge someone for having, say, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo on display.) Peak collection size for DVDs was ...

There's obviously a market out there for sequels — just look at the summer movie release schedule and you'll find at least one a week. And hey, sometimes a film leaves us wondering what happens next.
But sometimes there are films that had no need for a part two, where audiences left the theater the first go-round and said, "I'm good." And in the case of these ten films, we've got the numbers to prove it!
Hollywood, heed our wisdom: Sometimes it's best to just leave well enough alone.
10. 'Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights' (2004) — Sequel to 'Dirty Dancing' (1987)
• "Dirty Dancing": $62,811,299
• "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights": $14,140,215
So you had the time of your life in 1987? Big deal. You can't relive the magic 17 years later by conceiving a half-hearted retread set against the backdrop of revolutionary Cuba. Really, this film has nothing to do with the original, save for a brief Patrick Swayze cameo.

Kelly Brook will star in a new British comedy-drama film inspired by Bonnie and Clyde.

With Ricky Gervais replacing Jason Segel and a storyline that calls to mind Eurotrip, the portents don't look promising
The last Muppets film wasn't just a great Muppets film, it was a great film full stop. It was funny, charming, quietly subversive and, unusually for a musical, full of songs that didn't make you want to fling yourself down a flight of concrete steps as a misguided act of protest. During the screening I attended, I saw grown men crying with happiness. Cynical film critics, weeping like children at puppets on a screen. It takes something pretty special for that to happen. Which is why I don't much care for the uneasy feeling I'm already starting to get about its sequel.
It's been common knowledge for a while that Jason Segel – the star and co-writer of The Muppets, as well as the engineer of their return – wouldn't be involved in another Muppets film.

Whatever you think of Adam Sandler, he has had one consistent trait - he doesn't do sequels. With the exception of an uncredited cameo appearance in "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo", the comedian has not appeared onscreen in a single sequel in the 22 years he's been making films - until now.
Sony Pictures and Happy Madison Prods. are moving forward on a sequel to Sandler's 2010 comedy "Grown Ups" and have already been in discussions with the first film's scribe Fred Wolf about doing the screenplay reports Variety.
The original starred Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider as five friends who reunite over the 4th of July weekend to attend their youth basketball coach's funeral.
Sandler has no deal in place for "Grown Ups 2" and his involvement is contingent on the script, but the possibility isn't a huge surprise. The first was Sandler's highest-grossing film worldwide at $271 million despite universally negative reviews.

Elisabetta Canalis, “actress lite” (Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, anyone?), is best known for having had sexual intercourse with George Clooney. And, let’s be honest: that ain’t no easy feat, so good job to her! Taking the next natural step in the progression from George Clooney’s girlfriend to Respected Professional, she’s going to do what any ambitious actress would do: Dance On Teevee! That’s right, she’ll be showing on some fancy footwork alongside other A-listers like Chaz Bono and Kim Kardashian‘s brother on Dancing With The Stars. But before we get to see her roll out her skills on the ballroom floor or whatever, she’s taking her clothes off for PETA, as one does when s/he is an animal activist who is super hot!!! What a travesty: Big Momma’s House and its sequel are finally available on Blu-Ray and we don’t have a take-over on the site devoted to the release?! Okay, so that’s a bit sharp, but really- who looks at the list of newly available blu-rays and picks either of these terrible “comedies” as essential purchases? Nope, thought not…
At what point in their careers did Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence think it was a good move to become Rob Schneider copy-cats? Both men built careers on the back of exceptional stand-up comedy potential, with some reasonable early film choices, and while Lawrence’s rap sheet doesn’t include as many hits as Murphy’s, there are the odd exceptions where he showed exactly what once made him a hot comic property.
I have a huge problem with any film that uses only the word ‘Outrageous’ as its fundamental selling point.

Rob Schneider is set to star in “Virgin on Bourbon Street,” a sex comedy directed by Clare Kilner.
Not much is known about the project at this point, but Variety says the film focuses on a university student who’s sexually abstinent but gets into trouble after a night of debauchery.
For Schneider, this is quite the familiar territory; he previously starred in “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo” and the follow-up “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.”
Also on board are Jenna Dewan (“Step Up”) and Brianne Davis ("Prom Night"). Kilner last directed “The Wedding Date.”...

Thank the Lord it appears the casting for Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards may be almost complete as production begins Oct. 13 in Germany and there doesn't appear too many more major roles to fill. The latest names added to the bunch are German star Til Schweiger and Daniel Bruhl, the Spanish-born son of German director Hanno Bruhl. Bruhl and Schweiger join Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz and Paul Rust who were added to the cast last Friday. Schweiger will play a member of the Nazi killer team, headed by Brad Pitt's character, Lt. Aldo Raine. Ain't It Cool speculates Bruhl may be playing the wily Gestapo major Dieter Hellstrom, or perhaps Nazi sniper-hero Frederick Zoller, or perhaps the German-speaking member of Raine's crew not played by Schweiger. Yeah, a lot of speculation there. However, AICN does have it down to two major roles left to be cast as they offer...

'Charlie' No. 1 once more in crowded o'seas market
Without a new day-and-date blockbuster in sight until early November, a slew of summer leftovers and fresh films that the industry calls targeted releases are grabbing the temporary spotlight in a crowded overseas market. This past weekend was quite an unusual one, with a different title topping the market in practically every territory around the world, international distribution executives say. The latest adaptation of Jane Austin's Pride & Prejudice was No. 1 in the U.K., Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers led France, local-language Die Weisse Massai excelled in Germany, Fantastic Four in Italy, Monster-in-Law in Spain, Dukes of Hazzard in Australia, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in Japan, The Cave in Taiwan, Deuce Bigelow: European Gigolo in Mexico, local entry The Two Children of Francisco in Brazil, Transporter 2 in South Africa, and so on. But Charlie remained the dominant summer holdover, chalking up an estimated $12.8 million from 4,100 prints in 53 markets and raising its international cume to $176.3 million. The Johnny Depp starrer held the top spot in Japan for a second weekend, beating out strong local entries and the arrival of Fantastic Four and Cinderella Man. In addition, the Warner Bros. family film enjoyed potent bows in Korea, Sweden and Norway.

Boxoffice preview: Vengeance for 'Brothers' in arms
With lowbrow comedy the seeming genre of choice this summer, Sony Pictures' Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo should do some business this weekend. But the film will be up against the John Singleton-directed Four Brothers, which is likely to take the top spot among the frame's new offerings. Also bowing is Universal Pictures' horror thriller The Skeleton Key and Miramax's long-shelved The Great Raid. A remake of the classic Western The Sons of Katie Elder, Brothers alters the revenge story to create more crossover appeal. Attracting primarily males, it still seems to have some traction with older females, which should propel it to the top of the heap. The film is looking to gross in the high teens, with a possibility of crossing into the $20 million range.

Schneider Blasts "Pompous" Movie Critic
American comic Rob Schneider has furiously labeled movie critic Patrick Goldstein "unfunny" and "pompous" for his attack on his contribution to cinema. The former Saturday Night Live star has taken out a full-page advertisement in the Hollywood Reporter attacking Goldstein's article on January 26, in which he blasted movie studios for making lackluster sequels like Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. His verbal assault mirrors Owen Wilson's recent defense of Starsky & Hutch co-star Ben Stiller, who was criticized for his "tiresome" screen presence by New Yorker magazine's David Denby. Schneider writes of Goldstein, "Most of the world (has) no idea of your existence. Maybe you didn't win a Pulitzer Prize because they haven't invented a category for 'Best Third-Rate, Unfunny Pompous Reporter'. I can honestly say that if I sat with your colleagues at a luncheon, afterwards they'd say, 'You know, that Rob Schneider is a pretty intelligent guy' ... whereas, if you sat with my colleagues, after lunch, you would just be beaten beyond recognition." On gossip website Pagesix.Com, Goldstein responds, "I haven't received so many congratulatory phone calls since Billy Crystal wrote a letter to the editor comparing me to Roy Cohn."...
