Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist Cast & Character Guide
Image
Kevin Hart leads a starry cast of characters in Peacock's new crime drama miniseries, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. As its title suggests, the series is based on an exceptionally ambitious heist, previously documented in iHeart Radio's similarly titled true-crime podcast helmed and hosted by Jeff Keating. Both recount the true-to-life events of a shocking armed robbery that occurred the night of Muhammad Ali's first professional boxing match after being banned from the sport for years as a result of refusing to be drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

The stakes were high not only for the renowned boxer's comeback but for a crowd who gathered to celebrate Ali's historic fight at an ill-fated afterparty targeted by thieves. Fight Night series creator Shaye Ogbonna brings together an assemblage of big-name actors and TV newcomers to depict all parties involved in the catastrophe in what's...

“I want my b**ch back”: Kevin Hart’s Feud With Michael Jordan Isn’t The Only Time He Butted Heads With a Celeb, His Ugly Beef With a Comedian Has Been Ongoing For Years
Image
During his Acting My Tour last month, Kevin Hart touched on his years-long feud with Michael Jordan, which he first addressed back in 2016. However, this isn’t the lone high-profile beef Hart has found himself in the last ten years, as he also exchanged jabs with Katt Williams.

While it kickstarted back in 2014 when the Norbit star took shots at Hart, things de-escalated between them back in 2016, when Williams came forward to apologize for his comments, However, it didn’t take long for the beef to reignite, and recently, Hart has broken his silence on it.

J Cole Brought A Knife To A Gunfight On ‘7 Minute Drill’
Image
Metro Boomin warned us before he and Future dropped We Don’t Trust You: “Pick a side.”

As J. Cole has learned over the past 12 hours, anyone not firmly on one side of the Drake and Kendrick Lamar divide is liable to get caught in the crossfire. Last night, he dropped Might Delete Later, a surprise EP of tracks that might have been lauded as another solid offering from the rap vet — or maybe the conversation would be about his troubling (and trite) transphobic bars on “Pi.” But instead, the...

The Underdoggs Review
Image
Plot: Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings is a washed-up ex-professional football star who has hit rock bottom. When Jaycen is sentenced to community service coaching the Underdoggs, an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown of Long Beach, California, he sees it as an opportunity to rebuild his public image and turn his life around. As Jaycen works to transform the foul-mouthed Underdoggs into top-notch champions, he reconnects with his past, including an old flame and a few of his ex-teammates, and rediscovers his love of the game.

Review: Underdog stories have always been popular fodder for movies. Redemption stories about athletes and tales of scrappy kids needing a mentor are equally popular. From The Bad News Bears to Little Giants and The Mighty Ducks, sports comedies have always found success. With The Underdoggs, that appeal is tested by taking the formula that made those aforementioned films successful and injecting them...

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.

August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.

Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

Hulu New Releases: January 2021
Russell Tovey, Bertie Carvel, and Amrita Acharia in Because the Night (2020)
A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.

Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.

Thankfully Hulu’s library titles are a bit livelier this month. Jan. 1 sees the arrival of Blade Runner: The Final Cut,...

Hulu Announces Over 150 New Movies/TV Shows For January
Hulu is kicking off the new year in style next month, with January set to deliver a ton of fresh titles to the Disney-owned streaming service. There’s a bunch of original content landing throughout the first few weeks of 2021, but probably the highlight is the incredible number of classic movies that are going up on the site on New Year’s Day. Whether you’re in the mood for iconic comedies, dramas, animated efforts or sci-fi flicks, there’s something for you on the way.

There are well over 100 films being added to Hulu’s library on January 1st, so let’s just pick out a few notable titles. The full Austin Powers trilogy is among them, and if you can’t get enough of Mike Myers, the first Shrek likewise becomes available. For dramas, there’s Robert Downey Jr. biopic Chaplin, Johnny Depp vehicle Donnie Brasco and Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show.

With a third of the world’s population officially on lockdown (a number that is increasing every minute of every day), Netflix and other online services are experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand.

So much so, in fact, that Netflix and YouTube plan to reduce streaming quality across Europe for the next month in order to ease the strain on the Internet. These are strange times, indeed.

Ricky Gervais
Netflix has confirmed that 58 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in April. On the reality side, we can’t wait to gobble up season 4 of the baking show “Nailed It!” and delight in the debut of the dating series “Too Hot to Handle.”

Netflix Is Adding A Ton Of Great Movies This Week To Help You Self-Isolate
Greater (2016)
Now that we’re self-isolating at home to help defeat the Covid-19 pandemic, this may be the perfect opportunity to catch up on things that have been in our Netflix watchlist for a long while.

The novel coronavirus, a mutated strand from the family of coronaviruses, originated from Wuhan, China late last year, but currently, every single country in the world is battling the outbreak. As of now, more than 714,000 people have contracted the disease and 33,617 have passed away due to severe cases of acute respiratory syndrome. In the Us alone, more than 139,000 patients have been identified and approximately 158 million people are under lockdown across all 50 states. While the ramifications of the Covid-19 may have dealt the world of economics an unprecedented blow, business models like Netflix have profited from people spending more time at home with little to do.

Now, obviously, the platform has enough TV shows and movies...

Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo in Stranger Things (2016)
You’ve probably heard the news that we’re all gonna be indoors for a little while. There’s no way around that and it sucks to hear. It also makes the usual entertainment stuff each month seem just a little more poignant. While Netflix reveals its new releases each month as a matter of course, the Netflix new releases for April 2020 obviously have some added import.

Thankfully it looks like Netflix is going to ease our social isolation with some easy-watching originals, and a handful of fun original and existing movie options. There isn’t a Stranger Things-like Netflix juggernaut on the schedule for April but there are excellent, bingeable shows like Nailed It! (April 1), The Innocence Files (April 15), and Kenya Barris’s first Netflix offering #blackAF (April 17).

Things are little more lively on the film side with Netflix originals arriving like the Ed Helms-starring Coffee & Kareem...

With that being said, here’s the full list of what’s on the menu:

Chance the Rapper, Backstreet Boys’ Super Bowl Commercial Is Unwatchable, Borderline Upsetting
Doritos has a new flavor: Doritos® Flamin’ Hot® Nacho. Instead of rolling the new chip out in a reasonable manner, a marketing team decided to play millennial musical Mad Libs to the tune of (presumably) millions of dollars. The result is Chance the Rapper remixing The Backstreet Boys’ classic “I Want It That Way” into a dreadful piece of advertising disguised as a sickly sweet nostalgia cocktail for the Rap Caviar set.

Imagining the target demographic of this monstrosity is a baffling exercise. The only connective tissue between “I Want...

Watch Snoop Dogg Get His Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Snoop Dogg in 90210 Beverly Hills - Nouvelle génération (2008)
Snoop Dogg has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The prolific rapper, actor and entrepreneur was in attendance at the recent ceremony alongside his wife Shante Broadus and the rest of his family, in addition to many others who dropped by to say some kind words about the 47-year-old icon. Some of those who showed up to talk about the D, O double G included legendary producer Quincy Jones, Warren G and Jimmy Kimmel, who had this to say.

"If there's anyone who deserves Hollywood's highest honor, it's Snoop Doggy Dogg. You crossed over color lines, you crossed over genre lines before almost anyone in hip hop did that."

Starting with his landmark debut album Doggystyle in 1993, Snoop Dogg made a major impression on the world of music. To date, he's sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and has been nominated for 20 Grammys. Over the years,...

Reporting From ‘the Rosa Parks Section’ on the Red Carpet: Black Entertainment Journalists Have Had Enough
When BlackTree TV CEO and executive producer Jamaal Finkley sought opportunities to talk with “Girls Trip” talent prior to the film’s July 2017 release, he ran into an alarming roadblock. After submitting a request to cover the junket, he received an email from a Universal Pictures representative: “‘Girls Trip’ will be hard as we don’t have that many slots for AA,” meaning African-Americans.

Finkley, who shared the emails with IndieWire, replied to the studio: “You don’t have that many slots for AA for ‘Girls Trip’?! I don’t get it. Really. Makes no sense. What movie does have extra AA slots? … If I send a white person, will you have a slot?”

Today, Finkley still finds the exchange unsettling. BlackTree TV has over 226,000 YouTube subscribers, with more than 1 billion video views. “Designating us as limited because of the color of our skin and not because of the reach of our outlet,...

Avengers: Infinity War Theory Suggests Wakanda May Be Connected To The Soul Stone
Remember back when Black Panther hit theaters and we were certain that it’d reveal the location of the Soul Stone ahead of Avengers: Infinity War? Well, it turned out we were all wrong, as the movie was mostly standalone and the last of the Infinity Stones was later revealed to be in the care of Red Skull on the planet Vormir.

A new fan theory, however, suggests that Black Panther might have a connection to the Soul Stone after all. Reddit user Jaustin40 has put forward the idea that the Vibranium meteor which crashed into Wakanda in ancient times, enriching the land with valuable metal and giving the flora remarkable powers, was actually a piece of Vormir. This could explain why the spiritual plane seen in the film resembles Soul World.

Here’s how the theorist put it:

“Is it possible that the Vibranium Meteor that hit Wakanda so...

Val Kilmer: examining his recent straight-to-dvd movies
Kirsten Howard Sep 13, 2016

We examine the recent Val Kilmer movies, that happened to have bypasses cinemas...

Once upon a time, Val Kilmer’s individual look - defined by a little Swedish blood from his mother’s side - had hearts pumping. Those looks, along with his arrogant, edgy attitude and acting style, helped him clinch plenty of complimentary roles during the 80s and early-90s. Films like Top Secret, Top Gun, Willow and my personal favourite Real Genius were pushing him toward a stellar career back then, and his star was steadily rising.

See also: a closer look at what may be Val Kilmer's weirdest film

But Kilmer came down from a serious high of Heat and Tombstone in the mid-90s when he signed on to the notorious clusterfuck that was The Island Of Dr. Moreau, and only recently has the part he played in its disastrous production come to light.

'Soul Plane' Coming Out on Blu-Ray DVD in June (Blu-Ray of the Year…No it Isn’t)
Several years ago I attended a panel which though wasn’t about film did have as one of the panelists Jessy Terrero the director of Soul Plane. Needless to say, he tried to defend his film as being a misunderstood satire. The audience for the most part wasn’t having it, but he tried anyway. I think it’s safe to say that Soul Plane is considered one of the true nadirs of black cinema. If you squint your eyes and strain hard enough you can kind of see what they had in mind - a sort of wild satire commenting and upending every black stereotype that you can think of. But the film, about a guy who uses the millions he won in a lawsuit against a flight company to create his...

Why Mo'Nique Isn't A Bigger Star, According To Mo'Nique
Mo.Nique has been known for her extensive comedic career, from her stand-up gigs to her movies like Phat Girlz and Soul Plane. But everything seemed like it would change for the better when she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Precious . more money, more opportunities, more respect. Unfortunately, this hasn.t happened, and the renowned comedienne and actress has spoken out about her career trajectory, and what has happened since she won Hollywood's highest honor. Mo.Nique recently spoke at length with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed that the reason behind her lack of major success in the dramatic field is because she.s been "blackballed" by Hollywood. At least, that.s what filmmaker Lee Daniels told her over the phone. The Precious director called her up about six or seven months ago, by her own estimations, and told her this. When she asked why, he responded, "Because...

An Oscar-winning actress is an exceptional artist no matter what shade, race or ethnicity she represents. For the sake of this written piece we will concentrate on those actresses of color whose achievement in cinema (and ultimate success of capturing the golden statuette) has made them revered commodities in the motion picture industry.

For some of these minority Oscar-winning actresses being spotlighted they have either excelled at their craft early in their careers or may have enjoyed limited success in the aftermath of their glory. Whatever the case it remains certain that these feminine recipients of Academy Award distinction left a legacy on the big screen in a capacity that cannot be taken away or dismissed.

Interview: Kevin Hart Leads the Crew in ‘Think Like a Man Too’
Chicago – Sequels just need a dose of energy and creativity, and then they work. The cast of “Think Like a Man Too” – including Kevin Hart, Regina Hall and Terrence Jenkins – provide that energy, as the gang from the first film heads to Las Vegas for a competing bachelor and bachelorette parties. The audience wins that contest.

Kevin Hart is arguably one of the hottest performers of the moment. Fresh from his record breaking stand-up film of last year, he hit a trifecta in late 2013 and early 2014 with the films “Grudge Match,” “Ride Along” and “About Last Night.” His quick wit and energy also has the character of appreciation, for the collaborator and director Tim Story, and his co-stars Terrence Jenkins and Regina Hall.

A Ten-Year Anniversary (2004-2014): Top 10 Cinematic Duds from Yesterday
Has it actually been ten years already since we have been engaged in the realm of films dating back to 2004? A decade is certainly a long period of time to build our appreciation for cinema up until this critical point in 2014. In looking back at 2004, one can recall fondly some of the more desirable releases to come out at that time. For instance, the superb Million Dollar Baby was the Academy Award-winning film for 2004. Even the comedies that were released that year gave movie audiences cause to rejoice with such ditties as the sleeper indie hit Napoleon Dynamite and well as mainstream laughers in Mean Girls and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy.

Unfortunately for every gem there is a dud and then some. And 2004 had its share to say the least. So how about getting nostalgic and recalling some of the notable misses that were heaped on misled moviegoers...
