Into Pitch Black: Pointless

Into Pitch Black is rather an obscure part of the Riddick universe. It's essentially a companion piece to Pitch Black (2000) set a few months after the events of the movie. It is however in no way anything even remotely resembling a sequel.

It revolves around a number of people overlooking what transpired with the ship crashing and Riddicks escape. The "Movie" and I use that term loosely is a disjointed creature made up of original but poorly made content and sections of Pitch Black itself.

It offers a slight insight into some of the characters backgrounds and that's about it. The single minute of footage explaining that certainly isn't worth the 43 minute runtime.

Into Pitch Black frustratingly serves no purpose, it's entirely pointless and I struggle to believe even the most hardcore Riddick fan would enjoy this as it brings absolutely nothing new to the table.

I don't know who this is for, but it certainly wasn't me.

The Good:

Lisa Saum

The Bad:

Brings nothing to the franchise

Disjointed and messy

Things I Learnt From This "Movie":

Some films just should never have been made, this is a fine example of such a thing

Resembles a bad fan made movie

It is hard to believe that a major Movie Studio released this short movie.

It is disjointed and difficult to follow. The movie consists of constant cuts between scenes from the Pitch Black movie, scenes from video diaries from investigations into Riddick and then the scenes from this short movie. All seemed to be thrown haphazardly together.

The acting was laughable and eye-rolling.

The movie did not provide revelations of any substance. All the backstory information revealed was petty and trivial.

Oh, this was beyond terrible...

Well, I wasn't really much of a fan of the "Pitch Black" movie, and I actually never knew about this 2000 TV movie "Into Pitch Black" existed before now in 2022 as I sat down to watch it. Granted, I wasn't really harboring much of any expectations, as I am not much of a fan of Vin Diesel.

And director M. David Melvin delivered a train wreck of a movie with "Into Pitch Black", as it consists of a non-existing narrative. There simply isn't a red thread throughout the course of the one hour that this TV movie ran for. And it was essentially just clips from the "Pitch Black" movie mixed randomly with some dubious low budget attempt to expand upon the "Pitch Black" movie with some home-made video clips.

This was definitely not worth spending one hour on watching, believe you me. If anything, then "Into Pitch Black" felt more like a fan-made movie than anything else.

My rating of "Into Pitch Black" lands on a one out of ten stars.
