Est N8, the international sales, production, and finance company, has acquired “Family Secrets,” a Korean family drama directed by Lee Sang-hoon (“Windmill”), at Hong Kong FilMart.
The film tells the story of an average Korean family whose members begin leading secret lives unknown to each other. The eldest daughter Mina, for instance, skips her piano lessons to take self-defense classes. The narrative reveals these new pursuits are connected to promises made to their deceased family member Seung-hyun, who perished in the tragic Sewol ferry incident.
“Family Secrets” takes a distinctive approach to the Sewol Ferry disaster, focusing on hope rather than sorrow. “The Sewol ferry victims’ families try not to talk about the Sewol ferry disaster, but rather to talk about the good and happy stories,” director Lee Sang-hoon said. “Since they know how much pain they each are feeling, they comfort and encourage each other with hopeful communication during...

The Beekeeper's Jason Statham and Aladdin director Guy Ritchie's intense action-thriller Wrath of Man is making its way to streaming for free next month.
Starting April 1, 2025, Tubi subscribers can watch Wrath of Man, a gripping revenge thriller filled with high-stakes heists, brutal action, and Statham’s signature intensity. Directed by Ritchie, the film follows a mysterious armored truck driver (Statham) with a hidden agenda, slowly unraveling his deadly past as he exacts calculated vengeance. Wrath of Man is a stylish and brutal crime film that blends Ritchie's sharp storytelling with Statham’s no-nonsense action persona.
Statham & Ritchie: A Dynamic Action Duo
Statham and Ritchie have built a strong creative partnership over the years, collaborating on several hard-hitting crime films. Their first team-up was Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), which launched Statham’s film career and also featured Brad Pitt. This was followed by Snatch (2000), where he played the fast-talking Turkish.

As a Brit, I may be a little biased when I say this: The opening ceremony for the London 2012 Summer Olympics was the best ever. Directed by Danny Boyle, the usual hour of dancers and acrobats twirling around was spectacular and silly, complete with skits celebrating the Industrial Revolution, the NHS, and the nation's rich cultural scene. Movie buffs also got two special treats: Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean daydreaming about beating the boys from "Chariots of Fire" in their famous beach race, and Queen Elizabeth II making her screen debut opposite Daniel Craig's James Bond before her stunt double sky-dived into the stadium. It was surely the best trailer "Skyfall," which hit theaters a few months later, could have hoped for.
The music of the Fab Four featured heavily during the ceremony, complete with Sir Paul McCartney wrapping things up by leading a sing-a-long to "Hey Jude." As such,...

While Jason Statham may owe his acting career to Guy Ritchie for giving him his start, critics felt differently after panning their third cinematic collaboration, Revolver. Torpedoed by ungodly expectations caused by Snatch and Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels before it, Revolver is a much better movie than credited for, requiring repeat viewings to see through the style-over-substance charge the movie has been leveled with.
As Revolver celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025, giving the film another spin is recommended for Statham and Ritchie fans. With a screenplay co-written by venerated French filmmaker Luc Besson, Revolver was unfairly dismissed during its initial release and deserves another shot. It may not be the best work by the talent involved, but there's no way Revolver should hold a lowly 13% Rotten Tomatoes score.

A rival in Yu-Gi-Oh!is described as the one duelist the protagonist faces and grows alongside the most. Kaiba and Yugi, Chazz and Jaden, and so much more are some of the best in their respective series, especially as they are some of the only duelists who push the protagonist to their limits or challenge the main antagonist with great effort.
However, not all rivals are created equally, and compared to their protagonist, they are a weaker duelist. But of all the duelist rivals, which ones are the best? Some rivals had far better performances in their respective series, and that information can be seen in their win-loss ratio.

Bird Box is easily one of the most significant films in Netflix’s history. With its excellent cast full of actors like Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Sarah Paulson, and even Machine Gun Kelly, the record-breaking film became a cultural phenomenon upon its release.
A still from Bird Box | Credit: Netflix
One would assume, considering its success, that everyone on the project had the time of their lives when they were making the film. However, it would seem that one part of the production was tirelessly unrewarding.
Even though the movie’s soundtrack was made by two members of the legendary band Nine Inch Nails, the experience was very frustrating for the two musicians.
Bird Box, Nine Inch Nails, and a very big roadblock
A movie is a lot more than the actors that star in it. Several important aspects of production can be the difference between a memorable and a forgettable project.

“Stranger Things” star Maya Hawke might have had an easier pathway into Hollywood than some, but that doesn’t mean that the actress has been immune to uncomfortable experiences with producers and directors on set. In an interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast published Thursday, Hawke said an unnamed producer had uncomfortable advice for her.
“A director told me — actually, I think it was a producer, but they were in cahoots — told me that I looked prettier with my mouth closed and that I should close my mouth after I speak more often,” she recalled.
Though Hawke said she is “kind of a mouth-breather,” she said the advice was especially frustrating because “I was playing a character that was distinctly unselfconscious.”
“That was a trait of the character, that they didn’t care about looking pretty and they were unselfconscious, and so it was clearly just a desire of the aesthetic of the thing,...

In 2023, Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham collaborated on their fifth feature film together, the spy action comedy, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. Unfortunately, the film wasn't the sort of box-office success that the usual winning combination of Ritchie and Statham should have resulted in. Since then, Ritchie has gone on to direct three more films, all of which without the involvement of Statham, and it remains to be seen exactly if and when the two of them will ever collaborate again. From The Meg to Furious 7, Jason Statham has starred in some of the best action movies of his career in the past decade. Over the last 10 years, the traditional movie star has quickly become a thing of the past. The new stars that draw crowds to movie theaters are superheroes and cartoon characters. Moana and the Avengers are more likely to attract a huge audience than Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock. But Statham is one of the few exceptions. He’s one of the only actors left who can get audiences out to theaters with their name alone.
Since 2015, Statham has joined the Fast & Furious franchise, parodied his own career with a self-deprecating spoof role, and fought a 75-foot prehistoric shark with his bare hands. Statham reunited with Guy Ritchie for a jaw-dropping heist thriller and teamed up with David Ayer for an adrenaline-fueled revenge thriller. The past decade...

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2024, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
Among the many problems with movie lists is the lack of a common starting point. No one can watch the hundreds of domestic and international titles released every year. We don’t even try.
I’m suspicious of writers who claim to screen 250+ films a year. Sure, stuff’s playing in the background while you’re cooking, checking email, God forbid writing reviews, but at some point all those films bleed together into an endless montage of repetitive imagery and plot points. Ultimately everything looks and feels the same. Nothing matters.
With access to screenings, festivals, links, etc., critics start from an apparent position of privilege. In reality, that means they see what studios and their publicists want them to see. Or will let them see. There...

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie's bizarre gangster opus Revolver broke their streak, and it took another 16 years to fix it. 1998's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels marked the movie debuts of both director Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham. Statham had many careers before acting - including music video extra and London street trader - but his back-to-back Guy Ritchie movies made him a star practically overnight. Lock, Stock... was a phenomenon when it debuted, while their follow-up Snatch was another sizable hit in 2000, adding stars like Brad Pitt and Benicio del Toro to the ensemble.
Following Snatch, their career paths took different routes. Jason Statham's first action role in Ghosts of Mars led to an entire career in the genre, while Guy Ritchie married Madonna and directed her in 2002's harrowingly terrible romantic drama Swept Away. "I found myself feeling like if I wasn't too careful, I was ending up in a comedy-action-gangster genre, of which, of course, I'm comfortable and enjoy, but at some point, I thought, you have to spread your wings as a writer-director," Ritchie told Entertainment Weekly. That's where Fountain of Youth comes in. Ritchie directed the film for Apple TV. Quick Links Statham and Ritchie Have a Rich History Operation Fortune Was a Disaster Why Operation Fortune Failed Statham and Ritchie Desperately Need a Reunion
Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie have had some extremely popular movies over the years. As an action hero, Statham helped to bring a familiar face and star power to every venture. The renowned actor starred in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), Fast X (2023), and The Expendables 3 (2014). Jason Statham is undeniably one of the silver screen's most celebrated action superstars, and since his dazzling film debut in Guy Ritchie's 1998 black crime comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, he has steadily become one of the most famous faces of the adrenaline-pumping genre. Known for portraying cool, calm, and tough-as-nails characters, Statham has emerged as one of Hollywood's most bankable leading men and his exhilarating movies have grossed more than $1.5 billion while also attracting a passionate fanbase along the way.
Statham has starred in a slew of big budget extravaganzas throughout his impressive cinema career, appearing in popular flicks like the Transporter trilogy, The Mechanic, The Expendables, and the enduring Fast & Furious franchise (to name just a few). Despite being a major box office draw, the charismatic actor has also been in his fair share of critical duds (even if audiences felt differently), with respected film...

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie have made a total of five movies together across more than two decades of collaboration, but they still havent topped their first film. Statham and Ritchies careers have been intertwined since the very beginning; they both got their start in movies at the same time. When Ritchie was plotting his debut feature the 1998 crime comedy Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels he discovered Stathams potential as an actor. At the time, Statham was known as a diver and a model.
Ritchie felt that Stathams history of working at market stalls would make him perfect for the role of small-time crook Bacon in Lock, Stock. Statham proved to be a natural in front of the camera and, after the success of Lock, Stock, he went on to become one of Hollywoods biggest and most popular movie stars. In a similar way to other greats of directing, Guy Ritchie has developed various signature details that give a clear indication that the film is his. Richie's first feature film came with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. His debut attracted a number of fans, who weren't let down by his second film, Snatch.
Ritchie's filmography has gone on to span Disney remakes, gangster films and interpretations of literary classics. Whilst there's a noticeable range of genres, he's managed to put his stamp on everyone. Some of his trademarks are subtle, but it's easy to spot a Ritchie creation from the moment the opening credits roll.
A Familiar Cast of Guy Ritchie Staples
Ritchie has been known to use some of the same actors throughout his work. From the start, a few faces cropped up more than once. Jason Statham, Vinnie Jones and Jason Flemyng appeared in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,...

Guy Ritchie is credited with helping to kickstart a subgenre of London-based crime thrillers with non-linear narrative devices, snarky characters, and a very dark sense of humor. After the success of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, it seemed like Ritchie was the heir apparent to Quentin Tarantino, as he was a filmmaker who could seemingly get an audience to a new project based purely on the fact that his name was attached. Ritchies reign of success was met with an early impediment when his remake of Swept Away starring Madonna was critically reviled, leading him to once again collaborate with Jason Statham on the gritty, neo-noir thriller Revolver. Although it was interesting to see him attempt to do something radically different, Revolver was a strange attempt at surrealism that didnt reflect what made Ritchie an interesting director.

With action franchises like The Fast and The Furious, The Expendables, and Transporter under his belt, nobody would have guessed that English actor Jason Statham would ever play a part in a romantic drama. Hes all about hard hits, tough times, and violent climaxes! This certainly wasnt the case in 2005, though. Right in between starring in Guy Ritchies fourth film Revolver and his cinematic showdown with Wesley Snipes in Chaos, a film titled London has Statham step into the role of Bateman, a lewd banker who gets pulled into another mans chaotic night.

Quick Links Statham Is Stranded in a Chaotic, Meaningless Mess in Revolver Jason Statham's Revolver Was Rejected by Critics and Audiences
It was a premise that offered so much promise: a dramatic action film starring pugilistic juggernaut Jason Statham fresh off his high-profile successes in the films The Italian Job and The Transporter. Add in the legendary Ray Liotta and the stylish direction of one Guy Ritchie for a criminal caper/philosophical thriller, and the resulting film is an utter disaster. Both actor Jason Statham and director Guy Ritchie debuted with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. The movie's success not only made them more famous names but also turned them into an iconic actor-director duo. Every acclaimed filmmaker has that one actor they often work with. Martin Scorsese has Robert De Niro, Wes Anderson has Bill Murray, and Christopher Nolan has Cillian Murphy. Seeing these actors in specific director's movies never feels like it is getting tiresome.
Statham fits perfectly in Guy Ritchie's crime dramas and comedies about oddly named characters spewing witty dialogue. Though the two have only done five movies together, those few projects still made them prominent names in British cinema. It's unclear if the two will partner up again in the future, but fans of the duo still hold out hope. From Snatch to Wrath of Man, whenever Ritchie and Statham team up, people expect plenty of chaotic fun.

Steve McQueen is set to open the BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday night with a world premiere — and it’s not his first time doing so. But his new film “Blitz” is very different from crime thriller “Widows,” which lifted the curtain back in 2018.
“Blitz” is set in WWII London as it came under devastating nightly attacks from German bomber planes, with a population that was forced to seek shelter underground not knowing what would be left of the city they returned to each morning. Taking place over just a few days, the visceral drama follows a 9-year-old boy — played by newcomer Elliot Heffernan — sent off to safety in the countryside but determined to return home to find his mother (Saoirse Ronan), who likewise is desperately searching for her missing son amid the chaos and carnage.

Actor Tom Cruise is known for his utmost dedication to the cinematic experience. In 2022, he ‘saved cinema’ by releasing the air-force action film Top Gun: Maverick, which earned more than a billion at the box office and is credited with bringing back audiences to theaters. He has supported good cinema since the beginning of his career.
Even before he revived the exhibition industry after the pandemic with Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise reportedly helped out budding filmmakers he saw potential in. His endorsement for 1998’s Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels reportedly saved the producers from retiring before they even started and launched the careers of Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie.

[Warning: The following story contains major spoilers for Red Dead Redemption 2.]
Regardless of how Red Dead Redemption 2 is played, Arthur Morgan always contracts tuberculosis and passes away by the end of the game. While this reveal does come later in the story, there is a specific scene that makes it clear exactly when Arthur catches this, but it may not be apparent during someone's first playthrough of the game.
Tuberculosis (commonly called TB) is an infection caused by bacteria that often targets the lungs or any other area in the body with a lot of blood and oxygen flowing through it. Like many common pathogens, TB bacteria are airborne, and can be transmitted when an infected person coughs or speaks.

In the Korean film Revolver, audiences meet Ha Soo-young, a former police officer who has just been released from prison. Played compellingly by actress Jeon Do-yeon, Soo-young finds that the large financial reward she was promised for taking the fall in a corruption case has vanished.
Left with nothing, she embarks on a determined quest to track down those who betrayed her and get what she’s owed. While the film has some shortcomings in developing secondary characters, Jeon’s gripping central performance holds the storyline together. Her portrayal of a woman with no options left but to pursue repayment through any means necessary makes for an engaging thriller.

There are always those characters, like Revolver Ocelot, who give off a bad vibe from the moment they show up in certain video games. Whether it’s due to their shady actions, evil plans, or just their vibe, these NPCs often turn out to be much worse than they initially seem.
A lot of them start off as either allies or neutral characters, and then stab you in the back. Sometimes you just wish you had taken them out as soon as they appeared instead of letting them cause problems later on. There are specifically five notorious NPCs from popular games which, in hindsight, should have been dealt with at first sight.
Major spoilers ahead for Metal Gear Solid, Red Dead Redemption, Modern Warfare 2, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

For the second week in a row, the comedy Pilot topped South Korea’s box office charts. According to figures from Lotte Entertainment, Pilot earned $5.03 million from Friday to Sunday, capturing nearly half of the total box office revenue for the weekend. Since its release twelve days ago, the film has made $20.3 million and attracted over three million viewers.
Pilot’s success is notable in an otherwise slow summer season for Korean cinemas. Box office returns have been lower than usual despite warmer weather typically boosting theater attendance. However, Pilot has resonated with audiences through its lighthearted story about a fictional airline pilot’s amusing adventures and mishaps. Positive word-of-mouth reviews and fans of the lead actors have contributed to the film maintaining momentum.

Statham's history of action films prepared him for a recurring role in the Fast & Furious franchise. Fast Five's safe heist outshines Statham's heist in Revolver, showcasing a grander scale and more excitement. The intense action sequence in Fast Five serves as the movie's climax, making it bigger and better than Revolver's heist.
Jason Statham executed one of Fast Five's biggest, most eye-catching stunts in a movie directed by Guy Ritchie six years prior. Well before Fast Five's 2011 premiere, Statham was increasingly evolving into his action star persona, featuring in the classic The Transporter and The Expendables franchises, as well as in one-off action flicks like The Bank Job, The Italian Job, and Death Race. Since then, Statham's action career has led him into renowned roles, including Adam Clay in the $152 million action thriller The Beekeeper and Deckard Shaw in the latter half of the Fast & Furious franchise.
