Exclusive: UTA has signed award-winning filmmaker Amanda Micheli, the day before the world premiere of her latest documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Micheli, an Oscar and Emmy nominee, directed Halftime, a film that offers “an intimate peek behind the curtain revealing the grit and determination that makes Jennifer Lopez the icon she is, from her performances onscreen and on stages around the world, to her Super Bowl Halftime show, to the recent Presidential inauguration,” as the Tribeca program puts it. The documentary kicks off the 2022 festival on Wednesday night. Following Tribeca, Halftime debuts on Netflix on June 14.
“Micheli’s films often focus on women beating the odds in a male-dominated world,” UTA said in a statement. “Previously, the filmmaker earned an Academy Award nomination for her documentary La Corona, which follows an unlikely beauty pageant inside a Colombian women’s prison. Micheli’s other directorial credits include Double Dare...

Twenty-five years ago today, ‘90s kids discovered something they didn’t know they needed: a piece of the Aggro Crag.

Driving east along the legendary Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California, past bars like The Viper Room and Whisky a Go Go, where Guns N' Roses and Mötley Crüe played in the '70s, but before the Chateau Marmont, the famed hotel where Lindsay Lohan was reportedly briefly banned in 2012, you will pass a 10-story tall billboard of Billy Eichner wrapped in microphone wire with a bemused expression on his face. The text next to the photo reads: "You nominated Donald Trump for an Emmy but you won't nominate Billy On The Street? Be on the right side of history."
"I actually wrote the joke that's on that billboard," Eichner tells Et. "I'm glad the network thought it was funny and let me do it. And then on top of that, whoever owns that ad space where that humongous billboard is, they have to approve the contents of the billboard, too. We weren't...

For its final show of the year, the Mondo Gallery will present “A-Nick-Nick-Nick-Nick-n-Nick-Nick-Nick Nickelodeon Show.” As impressive as the posters on display — two of which, Sachin Teng’s “Tmnt” print and Janice Chu’s new art for “SpongeBob SquarePants,” have been shared exclusively with IndieWire (below) — is the fact that they actually got the correct number of “Nicks” from that famous ’90s jingle. Time flies, doesn’t it? And now suddenly it’s September, and I’ve since attended both the UK Discworld Convention and Dragon Con! Convention season: it really never stops, does it?

Are you a fan of SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly OddParents, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?? You're in luck! A new indoor theme park is in the works for New Jersey's Meadowlands. It will be called Nickelodeon Universe. NJ.com reported the big news which might actually come as some relief to locals. Now known as American Dream Meadowlands, the area it sits in East Rutherford, New Jersey (right near Giants Stadium/MetLife Stadium) has had dragged out development since it was called Xanadu back in 2002. It was meant to be a sports and recreation area that would have a mall, theater, bowling and more (it even had an indoor ski slope) but after a few bankruptcies, permits, and other issues it's sat as a ridiculous eyesore for all to see driving on the NJ Turnpike. Construction has continued on and off through this year. Nickelodeon Universe is the latest addition...

Just a quick head-up: For those of you in the Los Angeles area, next weekend, April 22-24, marks the occasion for the second annual Artemis Women in Action Film Festival, playing at the newly refurbished Ahrya Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills. This festival, a labor of love project from athlete-actress Melanie Wise and writer-producers Sean Newcombe and Zack Baldwin, highlights the cinematic contributions of women in movies, in the stunt field as well as actresses in the realm of action cinema, and also highlights real-life women who have made significant, pioneering contributions to the furthering of women in sports and other traditionally male-dominated arenas.

Some people were Double Dare kids, others couldn't get enough of Guts, Figure It Out, or What Would You Do? But the real legend in the game when it comes to old school Nickelodeon game shows was Legends of the Hidden Temple. The throwback series had it all: action, adventure, a never-ending wardrobe of khaki shorts. The show, which ran for three seasons in the mid-1990s, is reportedly coming back to life—but with a twist! Legends of the Hidden Temple is being revived as live-action TV movie—so there will still be obstacles to face, but now it's all scripted. "Late Night with Seth Meyers" is probably best when the host invites his famous pals to yak, reminisce, and sometimes engage in hilarious new sketches. Remember when Ana Gasteyer apologized to Martha Stewart on Seth's show? Gold. This week Seth invited another of his "SNL" pals to be hilarious, and it provided yet another gem. Here he is with Rachel Dratch in a sketch about apologizing for past misgivings. This calls to mind a theory I'd like to share: Rachel Dratch is secretly one of the most versatile cast members in "SNL" history and potentially the most underrated of the 21st century. Remember Debbie Downer? You do. She's even willing to complete a "Double Dare"-like course and disparage the career of Julia Roberts for a laugh. Of all her characters, this "lover" is the most ingenious. She's a recognizable, yet rare type for comedy. She's lecherous but deluded,...

Never underestimate the power of nostalgia. These days, anything and everything can and will be rebooted.
Variety reports that Nickelodeon is considering reviving some of its classic shows from the '80s and '90s, including "Rugrats," "Hey Arnold!," and "You Can't Do That on Television."
"We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way," said Russell Hicks, president of content and development at Nickelodeon.
The old shows won't necessarily be transformed into new series; they might come back in the form of a movie or special. But the network is hoping to appeal to viewers who grew up watching those shows and now have kids of their own.
Not only that, those Nickelodeon shows helped launch current stars, including Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice, who were in "Victorious." Perhaps the network is hoping to bring them back with guest appearances.

Lifetime's "Project Runway Threads" should have been "MasterChef Junior," the unexpectedly great food competition between kid chefs. But while "Threads" is a competition between kids, it's inferior to both its competition and to the show that shares its name. "Project Runway Threads" dumbs everything down for its kids, from its twists (the "Surprise Door Twist" is revealed on a rotating platform as if this show was "Let's Make a Deal") to its set (which looks a collection of former pieces of the "Big Brother" house along with leftover props from "Double Dare"). The first judged challenge is between already-completed looks, so there's no sign of the process that the kids went through to create the work, and process is what's so interesting about "Project Runway." Worst of all, the kids' parents work as their assistants, which is an obvious attempt at creating drama, as is the "assistant steal" prize, which...

New Zealander Zoë Bell is an unusual Hollywood triple threat. She's an internationally recognized stunt woman thanks to the documentary Double Dare and Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof. She's an actress with credits opposite Gerard Butler (Gamer), Ellen Page (Whip It) and Tom Cruise (Oblivion). And with her latest movie Raze, this ass-kicking leading lady has also turned producer. While Bell is proud of all she's achieved so far and grateful for her loyal fan following, she's not done yet. When I sat down with her ahead of the release of her gritty women-in-prison thriller, we not only discussed Raze (read the first half of the interview here), but also covered a wide range of projects and challenges Bell is eager to take on. Ranging from Marvel superheroes to The ExpendaBelles and breaking into the Fast & Furious franchise, this charismatic Renaissance woman shares six dream projects she's fighting to make real.

Survivor did something a little weird this week. It staged an immunity challenge around what amounted to a game of Toss Across. Is this my high school graduation backyard party? Is the grand prize a Hallmark card and a check from my aunt? It didn’t make for riveting competition, but it did reverse one seriously bleak trend in the game. So that’s nice. Like a Hallmark card!
Here are my noteworthiest takes on Wednesday’s warfare.
1. Vytas’ vytal signs are looking goooood
Thank you, Survivor, for livening up a humdrum episode with… an evocative mood sequence featuring Vytas in shirtless yoga stances for what seemed like months. It was like the gay Portland version of Robert De Niro‘s long-ass hunting scene from The Deer Hunter. So pastoral and eerie and full of handstands and clenched biceps and half-naked bliss and mood. He even philosophized about Brad Culpepper.

MTV has renewed The Challenge — née Real World/Road Rules Challenge — for a 25th season, Variety reports. Holy moly, that is a lot of seasons for a show that's basically suped-up Double Dare physical challenges with more alcohol, kissing, and punching. So far the network has not revealed the format of this new season, nor the location, nor the cast members, though one expects a substantial amount of shouting and some task requiring the contestants to speedily climb a cargo net.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.

Enter! Stranger! Knightmare is back. Yes, you heard correctly, the bizarre and slightly sinister children's TV classic is returning for a one-off special episode online. Treguard fans rejoice.
Digital Spy is celebrating the return of Knightmare by picking out seven other vintage kids' gameshows that we'd love to see return.
1. Fun House (1989 - 1999 on Citv)
"Wacky! Fun! Crazy! It's outrageous!" Five words that had a whole generation of kids dropping their Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles sticker collection in an instant. Pat Sharp's Fun House was the defining kids' gameshow of the '90s, blending gunge, ball pools, two hot twins and a man with an awful mullet and serving up 25 minutes of giddy tomfoolery. And we still really want a go on the Go-Karts.
2. Finders Keepers (1991 - 1996 on Citv)

As a kid, you like to think that your interests and hobbies make you up to be a pretty unique person, as we're all frequently told how unique and special we are. Well guess what -- you're not. Even if you were on Double Dare, which you didn't deserve to be because everyone watching at home was far superior at the obstacle course, it only pointed out just how dull and boring we all are as illustrated in these pre-show interviews. And if you happen to come across a Sundae Slide, put your feet on the edges of the slide for crying out loud.

Nev Schulman, star of MTV's "Catfish," thinks double is great. Doublemint, Double Dare, Double Stuf Oreos -- all good things.
But Schulman and Our Time want students to know "double isn't better when it comes to student loans."
Interest rates on new subsidized Stafford loans, which account for one-quarter of all federal student loans, are scheduled to double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent on July 1 unless Congress acts. Current outstanding federal loans, private student loans and other forms of financial aid like Pell grants will not be affected.
"Double means about 7 million young Americans will have to pay an extra thousand bucks for each year [of school]," Schulman says in the video.

I don't know if I'd call myself an "alpha male." I don't get dirty. Work on technical things. Or like, enjoy getting sweaty. At the same, I'm relatively tough. As in "a tough guy, eh?"
Starring Ross McCall, perhaps best known as Liebgott, the one Jewish soldier on Band of Brothers, the movie (also apparently known as Knuckledraggers) is a comical take on the modern male's difficulties with women, work and life in general. Omar Gooding is in this, too, of Wild and Crazy Kids fame. It was like a combo of You Can't Do That On Television meets Double Dare only with Donnie Jeffcoat to back Gooding up. Don't ever test me when it comes to classic 90's Nickelodeon programming.

While Django Unchained was full of awesome moments, some Quentin Tarantino fans felt stung by the obviously truncated arc of Zoe Bell's mysterious masked badass. Bell has since revealed some details about her character's cut story, and is nothing but gracious about her recurring collaborator's edits. Still, as someone whose been in awe of her since Death Proof, where she memorably rode on the front of a muscle car in a terrifying high speed chase, I'm pumped to see her snag a lead in Raze, the gritty drama that's trailer can be seen above thanks to IGN. Bell has performed countless stunts on plenty of Tarantino movies, but as a stuntwoman her contribution is intentionally hard to distinguish from the actress she doubles for. (For more insight into the mysterious subset of moviemaking that is stunt work, seek out the sensational behind-the-scenes documentary Double Dare, which follows Bell from...

In case you've been wondering where Adam did--or didn't--get all of his brute strength and unshakeable manliness from, look no further than George DeMamp, the soggy breasted grandfather with more willpower than a hundred Stallones. Tonight's Workaholics allowed the boys inside a nursing home led by guest star Jordan Peele of network show Key & Peele, and there was also a Tosh.0 reference toward the end to keep it all in the family. The best quotes below:
"This is my MTV True Life: I'm In A Menage-a-Braj."
"He was a very, very violent Mexican man."
"The only closet I'm in is the one that I'm trapped in. With R.Kelly. Watching a rap opera."
"I thought you had insurance. We laughed so much times at those Geico gecko commercials."
"I'm not a freeloader, okay? It's just that I can't afford health insurance and I expect it to be free."

If you haven't done the Harlem Shake on video yet and uploaded it to YouTube, then you're the only one left. Because everyone has done it. And that now includes the "Star Wars" characters, albeit not the real thing. But considering Harrison's Ford dead cold gaze, there's no chance in hell that we'll see him and Calista Flockhart breaking it down anytime soon.
Okay, sure, these "Star Wars" characters aren't necessarily the most recognizable — is that supposed to be an Imperial Officer or "Double Dare" contestant? — but it's nice to see a Wookie dance. Even if that's just a chick in a huge fur coat.
Bonus points for the ceiling fan. George Lucas would've loved that.

There is only one way to sum up superstar Julia Roberts’ glamourous life and career, and that apparently is an Obstacle Course. Leave it to Billy on the Street to create a street-side (Brooklyn!) Double Dare-meets-Access Hollywood course where each obstacle represents a part of Julia’s existence? Remember The Pelican Brief? Dig through a crude barrel of oil to find a pelican. Eat, Pray, Love? Slide down into a “bowl” of spaghetti and meatballs. Luckily, Rachel Dratch owed Billy a favor (or someone from her “team” did) so she gets to “drink the juice” and crawl through a contaminated lake (ie Erin Brockovich).
Billy, I think you’ve just found your reoccurring segment.

This weekend the new horror film "Mama" opens in theaters nationwide. It's the spooky tale of a pair of young girls who are abandoned in a cabin in the woods for several years. When they are finally discovered and returned to society, to live with their kindly uncle (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from "Game Of Thrones") and his punkish girlfriend (Jessica Chastain), something else comes along with them… a spectral figure the girls name "Mama." In other words: perfect material for producer Guillermo del Toro to shepherd to the big screen. We got to talk to the filmmaker about what it is about ghost stories that always inspires him, what to expect from the forthcoming "Devil's Backbone" Criterion release (another ghost story), where "Haunted Mansion," "Crimson Peak" and "Beauty and the Beast" are in his busy development pipeline, his day job at DreamWorks Animation and why his Disney Double Dare You...

Have your attention yet? If the picture above doesn’t grab it then nothing will. I’ve compiled a list of the Top 50 TV characters of the 90s. Grant you this list may be a little bias but hey, it’s my list! Being born in 85′ has given me the privilege to watch a wide variety of shows, the 90s being the bread and butter of them all. Now I didn’t get to watch everything in the 90′s but every character on this list is one that I think you’ll appreciate, and hopefully it’ll remind you of some good memories along the way. Whether it be because they were cool, goofy, nerdy, beautiful, or a dumb ass, this list has it all.
Pictured above is one of my child hood crushes (and yours) Topanga Lawrence. Of course she made the list but there’s a lot of characters that didn’t.

Quentino Tarantino recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the release of his immense directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs. Tying in nicely with that anniversary is Tarantino Xx, a new eight-film Blu-ray collection that hits shelves in the UK today.
The box set includes all seven of the films Tarantino has directed to date (not counting the upcoming and highly anticipated Django Unchained, of course), with a brilliant addition in True Romance, which Tarantino wrote and the late Tony Scott directed.
With the box set coming out on Blu-ray today, we’ve got a great new featurette with Robert Rodriguez, with whom Tarantino has worked with many times over the years.
Included in the collection, Tarantino Xx, in chronological order, are:
Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vols. I and II, Death Proof, and Inglourious Basterds.

In anticipation of the release of Tarantino Xx: 8-film Collection on Blu-ray this November 20th, 2012, check out the full interior artwork created by Mondo artist Ken Taylor. Stylistic, bold and unique, Ken Taylor add the same artistic flair to this boxed set as he has for so many of his Mondo poster designs, including this amazing poster for Drive (2011) amongst others. A fitting addition to a boxed set already so highly anticipated it could literally make some film buffs’ heads actually explode. For many, this may be a rare opportunity to own some Mondo art, even if mass produced, as original Mondo prints typically sell out within minutes, if not seconds. For many, it’s been a long wait as we’ve watched various Blu-ray editions of Tarantino films pop up in other countries, but not in the United States… ’till now. Tarantino + Blu-ray + Mondo = a very happy fan of cool cinema!

Today’s twentysomethings might as well be called the “Nostalgia Generation.” The shows we grew up with left an indelible mark and as we find ourselves on the cusp of scary, life-changing events and adulthood, we grasp at the familiar. After popular demand this summer, Nickelodeon created a programming block that appealed to this generation and called it The 90s Are All That. It included shows such as Kenan and Kel, Doug and Double Dare....
