To say that fans were disappointed with the 2024 reimagining of The Crow would be an understatement. Directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Bill Skarsgård, the film was a critical and commercial flop, earning just $24 million at the box office against a budget of $50 million. Hoping to recoup some of their losses, Lionsgate made it available on VOD less than a month after its theatrical debut, but by then the word was already out about how cringe it was. While people may have been let down by this new version, you can wash the taste out of your mouth by streaming the original classic when it lands on its new streaming home on Jan. 1.

After two lackluster weeks at the box office, The Crow is eyeing a franchise-low global milestone. Led by Bill Skarsgrd as the titular undead vigilante, the reimagining of James O'Barr's graphic novel of the same name has endured as rocky of a road in theaters as it did in its development, garnering primarily negative reviews from critics and opening to $4.6 million at the box office, shy of its $6-9 million projections. In the weeks since, The Crow has only grossed a worldwide total of $18.5 million, well short of its reported $50 million production budget.
Now, Collider is reporting that The Crow's box office woes are continuing, as the movie has dropped to a $59-per-theater average. Though projections for the weekend of September 6-8 have yet to be shared, the ongoing success of Deadpool & Wolverine and the newly released Beetlejuice Beetlejuice do point toward the movie being unlikely to...

In 1994, Alex Proyas brought James OBarrs The Crow comic to life with the help of writers David J. Schow (The Hunger) and John Shirley (The Specialist). Brandon Lee, a promising young actor and son of Bruce Lee, would portray the lead with Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters) and Michael Wincott (Nope) in supporting roles. The result is the premier cult classic of the 90s. The Crow easily overcomes its camp and inconsistent CGI by simply being itself. The creatives are working with extreme confidence, and it shows in every frame.

How ‘The Crow’s Wings Got Clipped At The Box Office: Reboot Of Brandon Lee Cult Pic Bombs With $4.6M
After 16 years of fits and starts, a $50M reboot of 1994 goth thriller The Crow finally flew into theaters and dropped out of the sky with a disastrous $4.6M opening.
Forget about critics plucking the feathers from The Crow at 19%, those moviegoers who attended Thursday night, predominantly fans, slammed the movie on Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak with one star, a 47% grade and a 36% definite recommend.
Lionsgate limited its skin in the game with a $10M North American acquisition and $15M P&a on this Rupert Sanders-directed take, starring burgeoning It and John Wick: Chapter 4 genre star Bill Skarsgård. At the end of the day, the studio stands to lose more — in the neighborhood of $30M — on its $110M-plus feature take of gonzo sci-fi video game Borderlands.

I’m somewhat bewildered over how outraged people have been over the new version of The Crow (don’t call it a remake!). Many are calling it a stain on the legacy of the late, great Brandon Lee, who infamously was killed in an on-set tragedy, but by examining the franchise as a whole, it’s clear that as far as these things go, the franchise has been exploited to death. There have been no less than five Crow movies at this point, and guess what? We’re going to rank them all! That said, as far as our Crow movies ranked list goes, they’re all varying degrees of bad outside the first movie and the new version, which isn’t half bad.
Dishonourable Mention: The Crow: Stairway to Heaven

Ranking The Crow movies showcase the inconsistency of the franchise but the original 1994 film remains the best with unique visuals and strong performances. Despite its popularity, The Crow series lacks the box office success of other superhero franchises but holds a special place in pop culture. The later entries like The Crow: Wicked Prayer suffer in quality and failed to bring fresh ideas.
The Crow movies ranked highlight how wildly inconsistent the quality of the series can be. Inspite of the massive success that greeted Tim Burton's Batman movies, the 1990s was a grim time for comic book movies. For the most part, studios didn't take the genre seriously, leading to a line of duds like the 1990 Captain America or Spawn. You can’t keep “The Crow” down. That’s kind of its whole thing. Naturally, the concept of the wronged dead who return from their grave seeking vengeance — inspired by James O’Barr’s comics of the same name — has sprung forth a franchise, which spans five total films since Alex Proyas’ iconic, stylish film debuted in 1994. The original film remains a heartbreaking watch after the tragic on-set death of star Brandon Lee, but it also holds up as a stunning, massively influential goth rock urban fantasy — not to mention an early comic book adaptation.
The rest of the “The Crow” movies? Well, they’re not quite so enduring, despite a steady stream of familiar faces in the casts, including Kirsten Dunst, Edward Furlong, Mia Kirschner, Fred Ward, David Boreanaz and now, Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs in the long-awaited remake.

The latest version of The Crow falls short with a 21% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, a minor improvement over previous sequels. Every attempt to follow the original movie has stumbled, with the 1994 version widely accepted as a cult favorite. The protracted development process for The Crow saw multiple setbacks, leading to disappointment with the latest reimagining's critical response.
The early responses for the latest big-screen reimagining of The Crow are in, and it continues an unfortunate trend from the franchises later movies. Helmed by Ghost in the Shell director Rupert Sanders, and starring Bill Skarsgrd as the latest actor to step into the role of James OBarrs resurrected comic book vigilante, the new movie follows in the footsteps of the 1994 cult classic adaptation starring Brandon Lee. While Lee would tragically lose his life during production on the original movie, The Crow franchise would continue with three additional sequels and a 1999 television reboot.

The debut Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed for The Crow, the latest adaptation of the original comic book by James O'Barr. Featuring Bill Skarsgard and FKA twigs in the lead roles, the new adaptation was directed by Rupert Sanders.
Shortly after the embargo lift for The Crow, the film debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a very low score of 6%. This number is likely to fluctuate a bit as more reviews continue to be submitted in the coming days, but with a rough debut score that's very close to rock bottom, it doesn't seem likely to climb much higher. The current score is a far cry from the one garnered by the original 1994 adaptation, which has an 86% approval rating along with a 90% audience score. An audience score hasn't yet been determined for the new version of The Crow, and there's a chance that it could be given a much higher number in comparison,...

There’s a haunting simplicity to James O’Barr’s comic book “The Crow.” The story claims that sometimes — only sometimes — people die under such sad circumstances that their soul can’t rest, so they’re guided back to the land of the living by a crow, in order “to put the wrong things right.” It’s a tale of grief, mostly stuck in the “anger” phase, in which a beautiful walking corpse metes out violent vengeance against the unapologetically evil.
Alex Proyas’ feature film adaptation of “The Crow” was itself the source of overwhelming tragedy when its star, Brandon Lee — the son of martial arts icon Bruce Lee — died in an accident on set. This context can make Proyas’ film hard to watch: Lee’s complicated portrayal of a sad soul coming to terms with pain and mortality hits extremely close to home. But his performance also makes the film incredibly powerful.

When it comes to making movies for himself, no one does it better than Rob Zombie. Love his films or not, there is a recognition to be had about his style. With his trademark blend of horror, dark humor, and trashy dialogue, Zombie creates a repulsive and fascinating world. After bursting out the music scene with White Zombie and eventually having a very successful solo career, Zombie ventured out and put his money where his mouth was by making his first feature film. House of 1000 Corpses first introduced the world to the Firefly clan and continued a couple of years later with the grittier and character-driven The Devil’s Rejects. While that film ends rather violently, fans have wondered if he would ever return to that world. But that would be impossible right? Fourteen years later, Rob Zombie finally showed us how the Firefly family could return after a pretty solidifying end.

In 2022, he enthralled us as Keith in Zach Cregger’s Barbarian and seamlessly stepped into the shoes of a villain in Chad Stahelski’s John Wick: Chapter 4.

Rob Zombie almost directed a futuristic and dark take on The Crow in 1997. The project, titled The Crow: 2037, was canceled due to conflicting visions from producers. Zombie moved on to make his debut with "House of 1000 Corpses" and later controversial horror films.

When The Crow emerged thirty years ago, it changed how audiences could perceive graphic novel adaptations. It was dark, gritty, violent, and well ahead of its time. On top of that, it had one of the best soundtracks of the decade. However, it also spawned some pretty bad sequels. After the release of the last one two decades ago, it seemed just as long for a remake of the original to come to fruition, with multiple actors and directors coming and going. Finally, after all that time, we got to see exactly what The Crow would look like in 2024. The reactions have been, well, let’s just say a little more less than enthused. But what if I told you there was one you probably forgot about? One that has the most bonkers casting out of the entire franchise. One that misses the mark by such a wide margin that...

The vengeful spirit Eric Draven first appeared in James O'Barr's indie comic "The Crow" in 1989. He became a Goth household name in 1994 thanks to the popularity of Alex Proyas' ultra-stylized, uber-Noir film adaptation starring Brandon Lee, who was infamously killed on the set of "The Crow" thanks to a misfiring prop gun. The teens of 1994 venerated the film, and "The Crow" was deeply beloved by many. The film warranted several sequels, including "The Crow: City of Angels" in 1994, "The Crow: Salvation" in 2000, and "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" in 2005. O'Barr's characters were also featured in the 1998 TV series "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven."
Although O'Barr's Goth sensibilities were a product of their time, filmmakers and producers have been trying to get a "Crow" remake off the ground for a long while, and the project has changed hands almost a dozen times in the last 20 years. After a lot of juggling,...

The original film, The Crow, unexpectedly became a hit, leading to a failed franchise and a promising 2024 reboot facing skepticism. A potential The Crow film envisioned by Rob Zombie would have been dystopian, action-packed, and feature a horse-riding protagonist fighting demons. Zombie's version of The Crow stayed true to the title's essence with a new twist, combining horror, action, and supernatural elements.
Starring the late Brandon Lee as the goth-inspired title character, the 1994 big-screen adaptation of The Crow quickly became a surprising and enormous hit for Miramax Films. The cult film tells the story of a rock star, Eric Draven, who is brought back to life in order to take vengeance on those who killed him and his fiancé one night in their loft apartment. With a literal crow guiding him each and every step of the way, the young man locates and stylistically takes down every gang member who participated in this ruthless act.

After years of being stuck in development hell, "The Crow" remake is finally coming to theaters this summer. It stars Bill Skarsgard ("It") as Eric Draven, the role made famous by the late Brandon Lee in director Alex Proyas' 1994 comic book film of the same name. The reaction to the recently released trailer and images has been mixed, to put it mildly. Now, Proyas himself has weighed in, and the forthcoming remake does not sit well with him.
Proyas took to Facebook recently to share some of his thoughts on this new version of "The Crow," which was directed by Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman"). Proyas, for his part, didn't have anything nice to say, as he even linked to an article from Comic Book Resources titled "The Crow Remake Trailer Gets Staggering Amount of Dislikes on YouTube." Over the years, filmmaker Alex Proyas has maintained that his 1994 feature The Crow should not get a reboot out of respect for Brandon Lee, his star who died in an on-set accident. Now, after years of development, a The Crow reboot is indeed ready for release, and Proyas is once again expressing his concerns.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work. And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes,” Proyas wrote on Facebook Monday, along with a link to an article noting that The Crow reboot’s trailer received numerous dislikes on YouTube. “The Crow is not just a movie. The comic book "The Crow," created by James O'Barr in 1989, should be considered a seminal work in the then-growing Goth movement. The comics were about a man named Eric who was engaged to a woman named Shelly. One evening, Eric and Shelly are savagely beaten and assaulted. Eric is shot in the head but remains alive long enough to witness Shelly's horrible murder.
His story doesn't end there. The titular Crow appears over Eric's body and magically resurrects him, sending him on a quest for blood revenge. The unspeaking crow seems to want Eric to kill the punks that murdered Shelly, but also seemingly chastises him for brooding and remaining hung up on Shelly's death. Be angry, brood, but do not brood, and do not be angry. It's super-Goth. The comic was popular enough to warrant a celebrated film adaptation in 1994 starring Brandon Lee and directed by Alex Proyas. The film was ultra-stylized,...

After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.
Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.
The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).
But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

It may be downright difficult to believe, but "The Crow" remake has finally happened. Yes, happened, not happening, as had been promised for so long. Lionsgate has now dropped the first trailer for the long-awaited new adaptation of the comic book by James O'Barr. After all these years, we are, at long last, going to see what Eric Draven looks like in a modern context a full 30 years after the first film arrived in 1994. Check it out for yourself above.
This time around, it's Bill Skarsgård, best known for his role as Pennywise the clown in the "It" movies, taking on the role of Eric Draven. Noticeably, his look is, well, different than what we've seen previously, most notably when the late Brandon Lee originated the role in director Alex Proyas' version of "The Crow." Whether that look is better or worse is a matter left to individual opinion, but...

Bill Skarsgård's new look as Eric Draven in the The Crow reboot faced backlash on social media. Director Alex Proyas, who made the 1994 The Crow movie, joined in, mocking the character's appearance on Facebook. Proyas captioned a new first-look photo from the movie with "Eric Draven's having a bad hair day."
Bill Skarsgård's look in the The Crow reboot has sparked a reaction from Alex Proyas. Proyas was the director of the 1994 movie adaptation of the The Crow comic series, which starred the late Brandon Lee. The new version, which was directed by Rupert Sanders, stars Skarsgård as musician Eric Draven, who is resurrected as The Crow to seek vengeance after he and his fiancée (FKA Twigs) are killed. When images from the movie were released showcasing Draven with face tattoos and shorter hair, they were lambasted on social media and negatively compared to Joker's look in 2016's Suicide Squad.

If it feels like a new take on The Crow has been in development for 15 years, that's perhaps because a new take on The Crow has been in development for, well, 15 years at least. Yet after a revolving door of directors, writers and potential leads, it's finally headed our way this year, with Bill Skarsgård playing the tragic Eric Draven and Rupert Sanders directing. Check out the first images from the new adaptation of James O'Barr's graphic novel above and below.
O'Barr's original story focuses on Eric, a young man who, along with his fiancee Shelly, is brutally assaulted and slaughtered by a gang when their car breaks down. Eric is resurrected by a supernatural crow to stalk and seek vengeance against those responsible for the crime. Alex Proyas' 1994 film retooled the story around rock musician Eric Draven, who is murdered along with his fiancee Shelly on Devil's Night...

The Crow series is a prime example of the sad but true happening of diminishing returns. While these are not 100% horror, they are often categorized as so and do contain a certain amount of horror elements. So if horror-adjacent is an issue, you’ve been warned. When it comes to the third entry in the series, well, it’s not exactly beloved. But it turns out it’s not the worst of the bunch, either. The Crow: Salvation (get it Here) didn’t do well upon release, didn’t exactly do well financially, and it’s not beloved by fans. Yet, something is interesting here, and it may be a lesson about filmmaking, timing, and taking risks.

Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.
WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.
While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.

It may finally be time for The Crow remake to get resurrected. For years, Hollywood has been trying to get a reboot of the franchise going, and they got alarmingly close with Aquaman star Jason Momoa and The Nun director Corin Hardy before the plug was unceremoniously pulled just ahead of production, with Sony later removing it entirely from their release calendar. Now, after nearly two years of silence in regards to the project, it looks like the reboot has once again entered development.
According to a new report from Bloody Disgusting, the project is back in development and is being retooled. Few details have been made available at this time, but it's expected that Davis Films, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow, who had previously had a deal in place to finance and distribute the movie, are still involved. The Crow is one of our favorite comic book movies of all time. A gritty supernatural revenge fantasy that takes place in Detroit on the night before Halloween, aka Devil's Night, the dark romance and gothic overtones were part of the magic, conjured most profoundly by the late Brandon Lee, who died during the production. Since the release of the 1994 original, we've gotten three subpar sequels and a short-lived TV series. But more intriguingly, there have been a number of starts, stops, and concepts for reboots, re-imaginings, and resurrections of Eric Draven. Here we'll take a look at The Crow movies we almost got.
The Crow was created by James O'Barr an orphan who was raised in institutional and foster care and a self-taught illustrator who loved Will Eisner's The Spirit. O'Barr enlisted in the Marines after his fiancé was killed by a drunk driver. While stationed in Germany, he began to draw The Crow,...

After years of delays, the long-awaited reboot of The Crow is finally moving forward, with production starting in early 2018. Jason Momoa is set to star as Eric Draven, under the direction of Corin Hardy, but filmmaker Alex Proyas, who directed the original 1994 adaptation of The Crow, doesn't think this should happen. The filmmaker recently took to social media to deliver an impassioned plea about why he thinks this Crow reboot should be shut down, since he thinks The Crow is still Brandon Lee's movie.

From City of Angels to Stairway to Heaven, Alex Proyas’ cult horror flick The Crow inspired a smattering of sequels across screens big and small.
None of them were particularly memorable, of course, as they failed to capture the look and feel of their predecessor – not to mention the fact that the late Brandon Lee left some pretty big boots to fill. But that didn’t stem the tide, and in 2005, director Lance Mungia whipped together The Crow: Wicked Prayer, which is arguably the worst sequel of the lot.
But had things panned out differently, and Miramax green-lit James O’Barr’s original pitch, film fans may well have received a follow-up to The Crow that was worthy of the 1994 classic. As O’Barr tells Screen Geek, the proposed sequel would’ve taken things in a “completely different direction.”
My intention was to take it to a completely different direction.

How many actors have played Spider-Man? We've had more Spider-Man movies than there are Baldwin brothers, or Kardashian sisters. But so what? Everybody loves the friendly neighborhood webhead! It's been more than half a century since Amazing Fantasy #15 hit the stands and ever since Stan Lee and Steve Ditko gave us the kid who does whatever a spider can, Peter Parker's popularity has covered the world like a spider spinning its web. (Ugh sorry).
The wise cracking, hard working, hard luck hero is a young actor's dream. The number of guys who have wanted to get in that mask earned by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland could fill a Spider-Verse movie packed with Miles Morales, Doc Ock, Spider-Gwen and every other comic version of the wall crawler. Here, we look at 10 Actors who were almost cast as Spider-Man. For whatever reason, they just didn't make it into that costume.

A few weeks ago, in anticipation of Guardians of the Galaxy's theatrical release, I wrote about the Curse of Tor Johnson, named after the old-school wrestler (and Ed Wood muse) who may have also been responsible for 50 years of terrible performances from professional wrestlers.
Since I wrote for WWE's Monday Night Raw for about six months, I wondered if the presence of Dave Bautista, a former champion, would jinx Guardians' box-office mojo. Three weeks into its theatrical run (and more than $175 million in receipts later), it's safe to say the Curse has been broken.

Sarah digs into the post-Angel careers of David Boreanaz, Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, Charisma Carpenter and more...
It’s been about a decade since the last episode of Angel, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off series about the vampire with a soul, aired. The final episode of season five, Not Fade Away, first appeared on Us television screens on 19 May 2004. That seems simultaneously like a very long time ago, and not very long ago at all, because time is vast and human brains are small and fallible, but it’s safe to say that in TV years, it’s a pretty long goddamned time.
The men and women behind the characters we used to spend one night a week with have gone on to other things – some bigger and better, others kind of rubbish – and unless you’re a particularly obsessive superfan, you...
