Gamescom 2024 was a busy time, where gamers got first looks at huge games, developers showcased what they had on offer, and thousands of interviews, meetings, and discussions took place that could steer the future of the industry.
1047 Games’ CEO and Co-Founder Ian Proulx was good enough to take some time to talk Splitgate 2 with us, and not only what we have in store when the sequel launches, but how it’s avoided mistakes the first made, surprises from the community and how one big, ballsy moment at Gamescom changed everything.
[Some answers have been edited for clarity and brevity.]
Splitgate 2 is an Evolution, Not Just a Rehash When was the decision made to move away from Splitgate and start production on the Splitgate 2?
The actual decision to move from Splitgate to Splitgate 2 was in September of 2022. The first time we really had this thought was actually in more like, I want to say, September or October of 2021. So really...

When John Landgraf speaks, TV reporters don’t just listen — they frantically transcribe.
Let’s be clear: Landgraf is regarded as the genius television executive in Hollywood. When he speaks at the twice-annual TCAs (Television Critics Association), the ballroom is packed with faces that other executives will never see looking back up at them. His professorial preparation, droll delivery, and swift speech pattern bring many, many words — and no fluff.
Instead Landgraf delivers news, a regular “Peak TV” (the term he coined) update, and thoughtful opinions on granular topics and the industry at large. He doesn’t dodge, he keeps spin to a minimum. A Landgraf executive session is must-see for TV critics, many of whom date back to the days Landgraf made “Friends” the staple of Must-See TV.
