As the weather heats up and the days get longer, many outlets are asking a simple question: Where’s the song of the summer?
2025 has had no shortage of pop music releases, but as the calendar passes its midway point, many of the current chart toppers are reheated hits that broke out last year. The lack of a consensus song of the summer has led many writers to eulogize the once-ubiquitous trend. Several cultural factors, such as the rise of siloed social media platforms and the decline of Top 40 radio, have been blamed for the song of the summer’s downfall.
“The ‘song of the summer’ feels like a relic of the past,” Taylor Crumpton wrote in a Time article published earlier this year. “With the absence of music video programs, such as Total Request Live and 106 & Park, and the decline in relevance of televised award shows,...

Deion Sanders thinks his new Tubi talk series “We Got Time Today” provides him with an audience from which he can “recruit” fans — and perhaps potential football prospects.
“It puts me in front of another whole audience to not only inform and enlighten and encourage and motivate, but to recruit, really go out to recruit,” Sanders, who also serves as the head coach for the Colorado Buffaloes at the University of Colorado, told TheWrap. “I really can’t, because coaches hate … If I go visit this guy down the street and they go to the school around the corner, now they hating on me. But now I have this platform, so I can get your mama, your grandma, your grandfather, you know, Rocsi [Diaz’s] people. I can get everybody.”
“But I’m just sitting up there talking, just being authentic,” he continued. “So it’s another mechanism that you...

Rapper Kanye West provided quite the entry into pop culture history when he stepped onto the stage of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards to interrupt pop star Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video. In the infamous moment, West spoke into the microphone with Swift still on stage next to him, "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!" It sparked outrage and memes, and it wouldn't even be the most ludicrous or rude thing West would do in his career. However, perhaps we shouldn't have been surprised -- because "Saturday Night Live" saw this coming nearly two years before the incident.

BET set to make originals
BET is developing a slate of original series for the first time in the 25-year history of the cable channel. The Viacom-owned network once known as Black Entertainment Television is ramping up to introduce a new primetime series each quarter beginning this month. Upcoming projects include a hip-hop-flavored version of The Apprentice with mogul-in-the-making Damon Dash in the Donald Trump role. Development also is under way to create a companion for BET's afternoon powerhouse 106th & Park series and a weekday late-night talk show. But the new infusion of originals might create some casualties as well, with BET considering canceling its 11 p.m. newscast BET Nightly News. The network has been criticized in recent years for curtailing its news programming. Overseeing the expansion is Stephen Hill, who has been promoted to executive vp entertainment and music programming, and Robyn Lattaker-Johnson, vp programming development since coming over from a similar post at Sci Fi Channel two months ago. "We realized if we're going to make our mark, it's in original programming," Hill said. "We know it's ambitious, but it's a long time coming."...
