Flashback: David Dhawan was the happening thing in Bollywood. "Govinda + David Dhawan" was the enviable combo that even the Big B stooped down to be a part of it and tried his hand with D. Dhawan on the director's seat.
Present: When the best of the Bollywood movies are biting the dust, the director cans the film with a misnomer that the audience will bite any bones thrown.
The truth: audience bites back!!
I cannot decide which was worse, the story or the execution. A few scenes were inspired from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Abundance use of punjabi language in the movie only add to the woes. The heroines are displayed in their lowest necklines utilised only for free skin-show. Heroines acting department: big ZERO.
Advice:: David Dhawan: If you don't re-invent yourself, you might as well start looking for the nearest Jurassic Park.
Govinda: Off-late your comedy is "utter" rubbish. And you better do something about your "paunch" Uncle!!
Sanju Baba: Forget doing favours to your buddies. Do yourself a favour and choose good scripts.
Subash Ghai: As a Chairman and Managing Director of Mukta Arts public limited company the investors expect you to be professional. Obviously, you are not keeping a tab on the production notes!!!
Verdict: Disappointment was not the nearest word on my mind - suicide, perhaps.

This film is a gem and I have encouraged friends to watch this movie. It is not the writing that produces laughs-- in that area, it is rather lackluster. However, the overacting, the overall craziness of the film had me in tears. In addition, it is impossible to not laugh during the first scene. Most films have been scored using multiple songs. This film uses the same song throughout the movie and it couldn't be funnier. Govinda and Dutt are horrible dancers and they make this painfully obvious throughout the film. Additionally, if you watch it subtitled in English, you may find some scenes particularly hilarious on another level. The dialog was spoken in English, yet the subtitles are grammatically different. Ek Aur Ek Gyarah has a special place in my cabinet of films. I am rather surprised that this film has not attained cult status.
This film gets a low rating from me not only because it was bad, but also because it seemed promising. You have a cast of Govinda and Sanjay Dutt, your music is by Shankar Mahadevan, and yet if you are unable to make a good movie, then whose fault is it exactly?
I don't have a problem with the mindless Govinda movies. I really like Coolie No. 1, Rajaji, Bade Miya Chote Miya and Maharaja. But this one is hideous to new levels. I didn't feel like laughing even once. The jokes aren't funny, their way of speaking is annoying, people don't react even remotely close to how they should in real life, even the music is bad in spite of being composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and this is just a badly done generic Bollywood rom-com from the 90's.
It's a very forgettable movie that has only gained good reviews because of nostalgia. But that's like Batman and Robin getting good reviews for the same reason. Most of the people rating it nicely were a bunch of toddlers back when it came. Obviously they will like it. But by today's standards this is just a torture to watch.

Ek Aur Ek Gyarah (transl. One and one is eleven) is a 2003 Indian action comedy film by David Dhawan. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Jackie Shroff, Amrita Arora, Nandini Singh, Ashish Vidhyarthi, Rajpal Yadav and Gulshan Grover.
Two petty thieves, take shelter in the house of a Major. They are forced to deceive him when, a gangster, kidnaps their mother to get his brother released from prison.
I have seen Haseena Maan Jayegi and Jodi No.1 of the trio of David Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt and Govinda and both the films were hilariously entertaining and funny and I have had very high hopes with this film also but this film was a major disappointment. It seems that neither the director nor the actors were over from the hangover of Jodi no.1 and it looked like the pale sequel of Jodi No.1 because the plot and the dialogue delivery looked like the copy of Jodi No.1 but comedy is missing this time. The film has some great comic actors like Govinda, Sanjay Dutt and Rajpal Yadav but failed to leave impression, barring only very minimal funny scenes the film is boring, clumsy and monotonous.
The plot of the film is very similar to that of Jodi no.1 and execution is also similar but the only difference in both the film is that the Jodi No.1 was comical and entertaining. Dialogue delivery in both the films were also similar but on the one hand it looked impressive in the earlier film but annoys in this film.
The screenplay of the film is mediocre and cliched and the music is also poor in taste. Acting is average with Govinda, Sanjay Dutt and Rajpal Yadav looked less impressive while Amrita Arora and Nandini Singh irritates. Jackie Shroff, Ashish Vidhyarthi and Gulshan Grover were wasted.
Climax of the film is also boring and doesn't make any impact, this film is a huge disappointment. The hopes were high but the disappointment is even higher.

This was supposed to be a DD comedy but nothing really made me even minutely grin as well forget about laughing. Sanjay Dutt and Govinda's weird Punjabi accent only irritated me as their dialogues didn't make me laugh at all. Sanjay dutt especially feels so out of place in this film. You can see he is desperately trying to be funny but is not. Could not watch the rest half as could not bear it anymore.
