Tom Hanks' Must-Watch WW2 Movie 'Greyhound' Is a Global Streaming Hit
Image
Tom Hanks kicked off the year with a small role in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, but several years before he ever played Leland in the film, he teamed up with a Peaky Blinders star for a WWII movie that’s dominating global streaming charts. Hanks stars alongside Stephen Graham and Elisabeth Shue (The Boys) in Greyhound, the 2020 WWII epic following an inexperienced Navy commander who is tasked with leading his convoy against a dangerous German submarine wolf pack. Greyhound is streaming exclusively on Apple TV+, and the film is still in the top 10 in more than 50 countries around the world, including the United States. The film debuted with a strong “Certified Fresh” 78% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 76% on that audience-driven Popcornmeter, and it did not report any box office earnings.

Greyhound was released straight to streaming on Apple TV+ in 2020, a model that Hanks has expressed his discontent with openly.

“Tell me how it felt to be onstage,” the journalist played by Kodi Smit-McPhee says to Maria Callas in the new trailer for Maria. “An exultation,” she responds. “An intoxication. I thought the stage itself would burn.” Starring Angelina Jolie, Pablo Larraín’s Maria is a swooning portrait of that cocktail of emotion.

Jolie has already earned a Golden Globe nomination for her stunning performance as Maria Callas. Previously, she won an Academy Award for her performance in Girl, Interrupted and has displayed her incredible range in films including Changeling, The Good Shepherd, Maleficent, and Those Who Wish Me Dead.

Tom Hanks is a six-time Oscar nominee and a two-time winner with some iconic films under his belt, but one of the more recent outings from the star has stumbled into a shocking run of streaming success. Hanks stars alongside Elisabeth Shue and Stephen Graham in Greyhound, a WWII film following an inexperienced Navy Commander tasked with leading an Allied convoy against a German submarine wolf pack. Greyhound hit Apple TV+ on June 12, 2020, and the film has returned to streaming charts five years later, clinging to a spot in the top 10 in over 40 countries. When Robert De Niro Had Tea With The Taliban While Working On This Film: “That Was An Interesting Trip”
Image
Throwback To Robert De Niro’s Tea Party With The Taliban(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Back when Robert De Niro was just a kid chasing dreams in Lee Strasberg’s method acting classrooms, soaking in the brooding genius of Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift, the idea of sipping tea with the Taliban in the Afghan desert probably wasn’t on his radar.

The drama school fantasies lean more toward Oscar speeches and curtain calls, not polite chats with people from a war-torn country. Yet, that’s precisely where he found himself years later, in one of those strange twists only a life in cinema can deliver.

The Film That Took Robert De Niro There

The path to that surreal tea party was paved by The Good Shepherd, a film he directed in 2006. Sure, it is not his most celebrated work, but a respectable, layered dive into the murky origins of the CIA,...

Tom Hanks’ Oscar-Nominated Apple TV+ Movie Gets a Huge Update
Image
Tom Hanks and the roles of soldiers go hand in hand, be it Captain Miller taking his boys on a mission or Forrest Gump going to war in Vietnam and winning the Medal of Honor, every time he plays a soldier, he absolutely kills it. In 2020, he got in front of the camera to don the uniform again, and this time as U.S. Navy Cmdr. Ernest Krause.

The 2020 movie was about Krause’s first mission, which turns into everyone’s last hope. Based on true events, Krause is assigned to be the commanding officer of an allied convoy that he is leading across the Atlantic during World War II, and they come under extreme threat from German U-boats. The movie was filled with intense sea battles filled with terror and missiles; after the huge success of the movie, it looks like Tom Hanks and Apple TV+ are gearing up for interesting new updates.

Call Your Dad: Apple And Tom Hanks Are Making A Greyhound Sequel
Image
What were you doing in the middle of the 2020 lockdown? Experimenting with a sourdough bread starter? Learning to code? Embracing brain rot on TikTok? Well, while the rest of you were being productive, some of us were desperately trying to watch new movies wherever we could get them. Luckily, Apple TV+ sure scratched that itch with the straight-to-streaming release of "Greyhound." The Tom Hanks-starring movie followed a Naval commander in charge of a convoy of ships tasked with traversing waters infested with Nazi U-boats and other threats in the early years of World War II. It came, it went, and didn't make much of a fuss in either direction (as you can read from /Film's review at the time by Josh Spiegel). It was a peak Dad Movie™ in every sense of the phrase, and it seemed like it did its job.

In all honesty, I probably never would've...

Netflix is dropping 55 movies and series this week
Image
Oof. Beginnings of months are difficult in terms of how many titles on any streaming service we are forced to say goodbye to. Each month, Netflix brings in many new items, meaning some older ones have to leave. Some months are worse than others.

May isn't worse than other months unless you are a fan of a couple of franchises. If you love Spider-Man, we have bad news for you. If you are addicted to watching Thomas & Friends, we have more bad news.

Perhaps the worst part is that a lot of comedies are saying goodbye. Wedding Crashers, the Fockers films, and a couple of the Friday flicks are going away. So are some Oscar-worthy films, such as Schindler's List and Whiplash.

A large number of titles are leaving Netflix this week (April 26 through May 2)

The weird 1978 version of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is also leaving.

Chicago Pd star claims season 12 finale will impact "trust" between these two cops
Image
Chicago Pd has alternated, sometimes inconsistently, between its veteran characters and its new characters in season 12. There are pros and cons to both sides, but the last two episodes have done a surprisingly effective job at getting us reinvested in junior officers Kiana Cook (Toya Turner) and Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar).

It's been a bit since they have gotten a chance to take center stage, and delve into their complicated relationship. Cook and Torres worked closely in the episode "Name Image Likeness," and the actress who plays the former, Toya Turner spoke with TV Line about the future of their partnership within the Iu. To the surprise of absolutely no one, it's going to be complicated.

All You Need To Know About Stephen Graham & Tom Hanks’ WWII Thriller On Apple TV+ (Photo Credit – Apple Tv)

Adolescence is already earning rave reviews and has placed Stephen Graham back under the spotlight. As a result, it seems now is the perfect moment to sail into the waters of his filmography. Buried within it is a taut, underappreciated WWII thriller that might’ve slipped past many radar screens, the name being Greyhound.

A Hidden Gem On Apple TV+

Greyhound, streaming now on Apple TV+, features Graham as Lieutenant Commander Charlie Cole, who squares off with deadly German U-boats alongside Tom Hanks, who not only headlines the film but also penned the screenplay, his first foray into screenwriting.

True to form, Graham brings a charged intensity that cuts through the naval jargon and battlefield clamor, proving once again that even in a supporting role, he’s impossible to overlook. At its core,...

‘The Amateur’ Review: Rami Malek Kills People with Math in a Jason Bourne Movie for Stem Kids
Image
Logic suggests that rogue CIA assassin Jason Bourne might be much less of a threat if — instead of a shredded government super-soldier with a sniper’s accuracy and no personal attachments — he were a vaguely autistic wife guy who couldn’t hit someone with a bazooka if they were standing right in front of him. James Hawes’ “The Amateur” begs to differ.

An aggressively competent spy thriller that has less use for logic than its lead actor does for his smile, this globe-trotting Robert Littell adaptation would have us believe that no one is more dangerous than a math nerd who refuses to think of himself as a killer, and the film makes a compelling enough case to sustain itself across the entire television season’s worth of plot that it packs into two hours. Rami Malek has made that argument before, of course, and the “Mr. Robot” star’s...

We're worried this Chicago Pd officer will be written off the show (here's why)
Image
Chicago Pd has a strong roster of characters at the moment. Despite losing two major centerpieces in the form of Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), the Iu has kept its chemistry and versatility intact by spreading screen time between its various members. Well, for the most part.

You may have noticed that Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) was absent during the April 2 Pd episode "Transference." Sound familiar? Well, that's because the character was also missing during the episode before it, "Seen and Unseen." Two consecutive weeks, and two consecutive episodes without the officer initially pegged to replace Halstead. What's going on?

What Happened To The Cast Of Knots Landing?
Image
In the late '70s and '80s, audiences were obsessed with the TV show "Dallas," prime time western soap opera about the Ewings. The series became so popular that the network CBS began developing a spin-off centered around one of the Ewings we saw very little of in the original series.

The new project -- titled "Knots Landing" -- followed Ted Shackelford's Gary Ewing and his wife Valene (Joan Van Ark) after they moved to a suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. We recently checked back in with the cast of the 1978 series "Dallas" to see where they ended up after all these years. But that stroll down memory lane got us thinking -- what happened to the cast of "Knots Landing" after the show was over?

Chicago Pd star teases return of complicated love interest in season 12
Image
Kevin Atwater will finally get some shine in the Chicago Pd episode "Street Jesus." The character has largely been on the margins throughout season 12, but the episode will see him juggle his duties as a police officer with his personal interests as a community member.

It will be a tricky balance for the character, and one that will give him some much-deserved screen time. Thankfully, the screen time will not stop there. Laroyce Hawkins, the actor who plays the vet Atwater, confirmed that the character will be contending with even more personal drama during season 12. Most notably, in the romance department.

6 Chicago Fire, Med and Pd characters who deserve a little more love from the writers
Image
There are some One Chicago characters that are overlooked more than others. We’re taking a look at the six that deserve a little more love from the writers, across Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago Pd.

Let’s face it, Chicago Fire can sometimes become the Stellaride show. There has been a push to offer Violet and Ritter more storylines, but there is always a lot of focus on the two lieutenants in the firehouse. That’s not to say we’re complaining—we love them! However, there are others at Firehouse 51 who deserve more love and attention.

Likewise, there are doctors and officers at Med and in Intelligence who need to get a little more airtime.

Chicago Fire, Med and Pd are not on NBC this week (here's when they return)
Image
One Chicago has been crushing it in 2025. The franchise has dropped numerous episodes that rank among the best of their respective seasons. Plus, it gave us the crossover event we have been asking for repeatedly for over the last six years.

The momentum was bound to slow down, though. It's not that the quality has dipped, but in true network TV fashion, scheduling has shifted, and breaks have returned to the One Chicago schedule. The franchise will Not be airing new episodes on Wednesday, February 12. Instead, NBC will be airing reruns of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago Pd from earlier in the seasons.

NBC's New Crime Drama Gets Obliterated by Critics — But Audiences Don't Agree
Image
NBC's new crime drama series, The Hunting Party, did not have a strong debut with critics. However, after getting lambasted in most reviews, the series drew some praise from audiences.

On Rotten Tomatoes, The Hunting Party initially debuted with a harsh, rare score of 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. That number has since risen to 11%, getting minimal praise from critics as nearly every review is negative. The bright side is that the audience score is vastly different, ranking much higher at 70%. While critics are slamming the show for its "predictability" and "generic action" sequences, many viewers are comparing the show to Criminal Minds, seeing great potential in the series' future.

What happened to Adam Ruzek on Chicago P.D.?
Jason Beghe, Patrick John Flueger, Marina Squerciati, and LaRoyce Hawkins in Chicago Police (2014)
Officer Adam Ruzek was missing from the latest Chicago P.D. episode.

The Good Shepherd debuted on Wednesday night (February 5), marking the first new installment after the crossover event.

Ruzek (played by Patrick John Flueger) was a big part of the crossover as he tried to chase down the suspect who shot Trudy Platt.

The investigation took Ruzek into the subway, where he came across Stella Kidd and Sam Carver from Chicago Fire.

A cave-in trapped Ruzek and Kidd, and the lack of oxygen soon became an issue.

Though Ruzek sustained a minor injury from falling debris, he was rescued before the end of the crossover.

What happened to Ruzek on Chicago P.D.?

The February 5 Chicago P.D. episode focused almost entirely on Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres and his return to a juvenile detention center where he had spent time as a teen.

Chicago P.D. cast: New episode features Delaney Williams and Benjamin Levy Aguilar
Benjamin Levy Aguilar
The new episode of Chicago P.D. had Officer Dante Torres going undercover at a juvenile detention center.

This center was where Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) spent time as a teen, making him uniquely qualified for the task.

It also served as a gateway to introduce Delaney Williams during his first episode on the Chicago P.D. cast.

Delaney Williams played Warden Jay Scott in Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 12 (The Good Shepherd).

Long before he joined the Chicago P.D. cast, Delaney played Sergeant Jay Landsman on the hit show The Wire.

Williams has also appeared on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as John Buchanan, R. Gregory Scholl on Ray Donavan, and recently in the mini-series We Own This City as Kevin Davis.

We're just fresh off what was an explosive Dante-centric episode in Chicago P.D.'s Season 12, Episode 12, "The Good Shepherd." The episode covered an intriguing story that showcased one of the best performances we've ever seen from Dante's Benjamin Levy Aguilar. It did leave us wanting more, but while there will be no new episodes until two weeks from today, the wait will be worth it, because we'll finally get a story with Kevin Atwater (Laroyce Hawkins) front and center. Chicago Pd Season 12, Episode 12 Review: Torres Is Stuck In a Typical Story

Quick LinksChicago Pd Season 12, Episode 12 Isn't Anything NewChicago Pd Depends on Benjamin Levy AguilarWhat Will Chicago Pd Do With Dante Torres in Season 12?

The following contains major spoilers for Chicago Pd Season 12, Episode 12, "The Good Shepherd," which debuted Wednesday, Feb. 5 on NBC. It also contains discussion of sexual content involving minors.

Chicago Pd Season 12, Episode 12, "The Good Shepherd" gives the stage back to Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Dante Torres. Both actor and character have more than proved their worth to the NBC show at this point, so it's great to see another Torres-centric episode. What's not so great is how this one hits the same notes that other ones have already played.

"The Good Shepherd" sends Torres undercover again, this time in a juvenile detention facility. Its plot bears a resemblance to Chicago Pd Season 4, Episode 8, "I Remember Her Now," in which Detective Jay Halstead went undercover as a...

From The Spirit to Suits: 7 Gabriel Macht Roles We All Love and Adore
Image
Suits never gets old—even though the show originally ended in 2019. The series keeps topping streaming charts, setting records, and reminding everyone just how good legal dramas can be.

At the center of all the hype? Gabriel Macht, the man behind Harvey Specter. With his sharp suits, smooth one-liners, and unmatched confidence, Harvey is the lawyer we all wish we had (and the boss most of us wouldn’t want).

His chemistry with Mike Ross, his complex romance with Donna, and his constant battle to stay on top made him one of TV’s most iconic characters. But Suits isn’t Macht’s only great role.

Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 12 Review: Torres Faces a Crisis of Faith After Dark Case
Image
Chicago Pd Season 12 consistently and successfully delves deeper into its characters in new ways.

For the most part, the series has found a nice rhythm in executing the character-centric installments without disrupting what we enjoy about the series most.

It was time for another peek into what makes Dante Torres the person he is, and Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 12 was a slow-burning, dark hour that left him in a crisis.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

In many ways, Chicago Pd has done a better job of attempting to flesh out its newer characters than they’ve done over the years with some of the established ones.

I feel like we’re in tune with Torres in ways that we may not have been with past characters, at least not as quickly.

This Chicago Pd character killed (literally) in darkest season 12 episode yet
Image
Chicago Pd is always the darkest of the One Chicago shows. It deals with crime, corruption, and, well, murder, so it only makes sense that it skews less comical than, say, the firehouse scenes in Chicago Fire. Even we were surprised by how dark things got during the episode "The Good Shepherd."

The episode revolved around a juvenile detention centre that's known for running a tight ship. A teen who was supposed to be at the centre turns up dead, and Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), an ex attendee at the centre, decides to go undercover.

One Chicago schedule: What order will new episodes air on NBC tonight?
Image
One Chicago made some notable changes to its schedule for the January 29 crossover event. The regular order of shows was switched around, so that Chicago Fire kicked off the action instead of airing second, behind Chicago Med. Chicago Pd, as always, held down the third and final time slot.

This change proved confusing to some fans, especially those who were tuning in expecting to see Med, only to see Fire characters interacting with people from the other shows. This sizable change raises the question about the One Chicago schedule moving forward. Will NBC continue to tweak its Wednesday lineup or will it resume its usual order?

One Chicago crossover proves Pd doesn't know what to do with this character
Image
Chicago Pd had an excellent showing in the One Chicago crossover. Characters like Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) got plenty chance to shine. We even got some a subplot involving Trudy Platt (Amy Morton).

The three-part event did an excellent job of incorporating the police drama into a larger framework. One character, however, seemed out of place. Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), the officer who arguably spearheaded Pd's fall finale, was barely a factor in the crossover event.

Torres had nothing to do during the crossover Chicago P.D. -- "The Good Shepherd" Episode 12012 -- Pictured: Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Dante Torres -- (Photo by: Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

He appeared, which is more than can be said for some of the other Pd characters, but he barely had anything to do. Torres didn't show up until roughly an hour into the special,...
