Though it didn’t quite make its March 6 release date, Senscape’s long-awaited horror adventure title Asylum is finally out now on Steam and Gog.com. The Steam version currently has a 10% discount on now until March 20.
Asylum was announced way back in 2010, and is the spiritual successor to the cult classic Scratches. This first-person horror adventure is crafted in the grindhouse style of 80s horror (including its soundtrack), drawing inspiration from H. P. Lovecraft’s stories, the iconic gothic style of Hammer Films, and the twisted horror legacy of Lucio Fulci. As the description states on the Steam page, the game is “the kind of slow-burning horror with an old-school sensibility that creeps upon you.”
Asylum casts players into the hallucinatory setting of the Hanwell Mental Institute. As an ex-patient suffering bizarre visions, you must explore the intricate layout of the building, research its past history, and march towards a shocking conclusion.

Marvel has created some of the most iconic superheroes in comic book history, so it was only a matter of time before mockbusters manifested. Whether it's Spider-Man, Captain America, or even Daredevil, filmmakers have long attempted to cash in on these legendary characters; sometimes as blatant knockoffs, other times as affectionate homages, and on occasion as baffling hybrids of both. With their low budgets and borderline intellectual property theft, most mockbusters are easy to dismiss as shameless cash grabs. However, even when a film is just Iron Man with a fraction of the budget, there is usually something to admire; whether it's the creative marketing needed to dodge Disney’s legal team, the bizarre reinventions that arise when filmmakers have not actually seen the movie they are copying, or just the sheer audacity to release something so wildly off base.

Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's pulpy, campy horror anthology series "American Horror Story" isn't for everyone, but fans of the show are fortunate in that there is now a lot of it to love. Since each season tackles a different subgenre within horror, everyone is bound to have favorites based on what kind of horror they prefer. Slasher fans might prefer season 9, "American Horror Story: 1984," which is set at a summer camp and riffs on classic 1970s and 1980s slashers, while fans of spooky, sexy, silly vampire stories might prefer season 5, "American Horror Story: Hotel." It's hard to objectively pick one best season because of the bias of subgenre preference (although we did try to rank the scariest seasons), but one way to see what's most beloved overall is to look at the user ratings over on IMDb.

In the 1980s, Batman had a litany of mature, gritty stories that would inform his character for decades to come. 1989’s Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth is much in the same vein. This collaboration between writer Grant Morrison and Dave McKean has since cemented itself as an unforgettable work in the Caped Crusader’s library of gothic and crime-ridden tales.
Ever since I re-entered the world of comics in the early 2010s, I quickly caught up on the highly-touted stories of DC’s nocturnal vigilante. The Dark Knight Returns, Year One, and The Killing Joke quickly informed me of what modern Batman truly is, beyond the Tim Burton films and the iconic '90s animated series.
A Serious House on Serious Earth was on my radar, but I simply never got around to picking it up. In 2024, that changed on a chance trip to a nearby comic book store.

Heroes are nothing without their villains, and that is especially true under the DC Comics banner. How much the audience loves its protagonist is often decided by how much it hates the antagonist. When it comes to the "heels" of DC, they offer plenty of reasons for readers to hate them.
DC Comics has a tendency to go darker than its superhero universe counterparts, and that darkness offers more opportunity to deliver stories where the villains can be downright despicable. Rather than just plant bombs or indulge in cartoonish plots, DC's villains often commit despicable, even disgusting acts of villainy. Batman's rogues gallery alone is a threat to the entire DC Universe, but the universe at large is filled with grimy evildoers who have committed crimes that would make anyone clutch their pearls.

Margot Robbie was almost cast in American Horror Story: Asylum? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Back in 2012, Margot Robbie auditioned for American Horror Story: Asylum, the season packed with all things creepy and Emmy-worthy. But despite delivering an audition that made jaws drop, she didn’t land the role.
Casting director Eric Dawson spilled the beans on Backstage’s In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, calling Robbie’s audition one of his “favorites of all time.” He said, “She was such a star. It was crazy, her star appeal when she walked in the room. Even though she didn’t get that role, you just knew—this is a star. What do we do with her?”
At that point, Margot was fresh off the short-lived Pan Am (2011–2012), where she played a 1960s stewardess—sadly, the show didn’t take off, but Robbie’s ambition was about to. With a fearless mindset,...

Though The Penguin followed Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin, Cristin Milioti stole the show as Sofia Falcone. Wrongfully sent to Arkham asylum by her father, mob boss Carmine Falcone, she is out for power and revenge, and Oz is a major obstacle on her way to dominating Gotham's criminal underworld. While The Penguin is arguably Oz's show, audiences were captivated by Sofia and her tragic life story, which ended with her back in Arkham Asylum.
Naturally, that brings the question: What's next for Sofia? Recently, Milioti spoke with IndieWire about her character's future:
It just seemed like there are infinite possibilities of where she could go. Obviously I would want to see her get out of Arkham. That’s like number one. I don’t want her in there. So I want to see her get out there, and then exact revenge. Maybe now she would be even more of a loose cannon,...

American Horror Story is one of FX’s most successful series to date, airing for 12 cycles (and 132 episodes) since 2011 and winning 17 Emmys along the way. In January 2020, the cable network made the bold decision to renew Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk‘s horror anthology series for three more installments — Season 11, Season 12, and Season 13. That ensures the flagship show will be on our TV screens through at least the year 2025. Scary good!

The 2011 horror anthology series "American Horror Story," co-created by Brad Falchuk and TV juggernaut Ryan Murphy, is presented in a novel fashion. Each one of its 12 seasons stands as a wholly independent 10-to-13-episode miniseries, with each one featuring a unique set of characters and a new timeframe/location. Murphy and Falchuk select a traditionally Halloween-y horror topic or premise -- a haunted house, vampires, a witch coven, a circus sideshow, extraterrestrials, cultists -- and then spin it out in their own sensationalistic idiom. "American Horror Story" tends to be salacious and stylized, and its sheer variety have kept audiences coming back for years.
Note: "American Horror Story" is not to be confused with the 2021 series "American Horror Stories," which is actually a spinoff. "Stories" is a more traditional "Tales from the Crypt"-like anthology show, with each episode featuring an original story and its own unique cast of actors.

With a nickname like the Dark Knight, it’s no wonder that Batman is often considered one of DC Comics’ most melancholy heroes. From his reputation as a brooding loner to his traditional darker color scheme, Bruce Wayne is, in many ways, one of fiction’s greatest emo boys.

American Horror Story has almost been running for a decade and a half. Over its run so far, the show has been host to countless celebrity cameos, some of which just appeared in a single scene or episodes, others had a mini-arc within the season. Although they might not be a main character in the grand scheme of things, it is still nice when a celebrity makes a cameo in the show, just for the sake of being recognizable and breaking up the dark and serious themes of American Horror Story.
Some celebrities who have had a cameo on the show have enjoyed their time as part of the American Horror Story universe so much that they have returned in future seasons in a starring role. Smallville follows a young Clark Kent as he tries to find his place in the world before becoming the iconic superhero. Clark struggles to understand and harness his growing abilities while protecting his secret. Twenty years later, Smallville is still a staple in the DC Universe; the special effects are a little outdated, but the show has a lot of heart that has helped it stand the test of time.
Over Smallville's ten seasons, there were plenty of great guest stars and characters. One of the more underrated actors to appear in Smallville is Ron Selmour. In the early 2000s, there was an ambitious plan to bring Batman and Superman together on the big screen in a fresh way. Warner Bros. began developing a film titled Batman vs. Superman, which would have showcased the two superheroes clashing long before the 2016 release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
This project, often referred to as Asylum, generated significant excitement due to its darker and more intense storyline.
Warner Bros. aimed to create something innovative and thrilling, looking to pit two of their most iconic characters against each other.
This wasn’t just a fleeting idea; the project had substantial momentum. Andrew Kevin Walker, known for Se7en, penned the script, and Wolfgang Petersen was set to direct. There were even discussions about casting major stars for these legendary roles.

Back in the early 2000s, there was a plan to bring Batman and Superman together on the big screen in a way we hadn’t seen before. Warner Bros. had started working on a movie called Batman vs. Superman, which would’ve shown the two superheroes clashing long before the 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that we know today.
This project, often referred to as Asylum, generated a lot of excitement and buzz around its darker and more intense storyline.
At the time, Warner Bros. wanted to create something new and exciting. They were looking to take both Batman and Superman, two of their biggest comic book characters, and pit them against each other in a thrilling story.
It wasn’t just a random thought; this project had real momentum behind it. A script was written by Andrew Kevin Walker (famous for Se7en), and Wolfgang Petersen was set to direct.

The best Mark Margolis movies and TV shows include a strong mix of truly classic films and groundbreaking television shows that legitimize his place in Hollywood history. Margolis was trained by the best, learning under Stella Adler at the Actors Studio and then trained by Lee Strasberg, the teacher who mastered method acting. This led to Margolis getting his start in stage plays before finally moving on to movies in 1976. He then caught the eye of Brian De Palma, and the rest is history.
Margolis enjoyed an early breakout role in the De Palma classic masterpiece Scarface. That earned him enough attention to pick up supporting roles in several movies. His career took an interesting direction in 1998 when Darren Aronofsky cast him in his debut film, Pi. That led to Aronofsky casting Margolis in almost every movie he made after that until Noah in 2014. Margolis remains most known to younger...

As James Gunn focuses on establishing his Dcu from the ground up, Matt Reeves is concurrently developing his own cinematic universe centered around Batman. Titled The Batman Epic Crime Saga, this universe takes a more grounded approach to the Caped Crusader and his world.
The saga began with the release of The Batman: Part I, featuring Robert Pattinson in the lead role, and a sequel is already in development, slated for a 2026 release.
In addition to the films, several spinoff shows were planned, including The Penguin, which is currently airing and has become a massive hit, particularly with its fourth episode titled “Cent’Anni.”
This episode delves into Sofia Falcone’s (Cristin Milioti) backstory. Throughout the series, she was portrayed as being held in Arkham Asylum for being The Hangman, a psychopathic serial killer. However, “Cent’Anni” reveals that she was framed by her own family when she began to uncover that...

Matt Reeves' The Batman universe has been a surprise hit among fans. The Batman was regarded as one of the greatest movies in the character's history by a large portion of the fan base (rivaling Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight) when it released in 2022, despite early criticism of Robert Pattinson's casting as Bruce Wayne. The Penguin, the first of three initially announced spin-off shows, has also been a major hit. Releasing weekly on HBO and Max, The Penguin has been dubbed as an unofficial successor to The Sopranos and is perhaps one of the best superhero TV shows ever made.
Unfortunately, The Penguin was the only survivor of the development phase for Reeves' planned The Batman spin-offs. A Gotham City Police Department series was announced alongside...

American Horror Story is returning with its 13th season, and though its theme hasnt been revealed, its the perfect chance to pay off a huge tease from Ryan Murphy. The horror genre has seen some big and successful TV projects in recent years, and among them is American Horror Story. Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, each season of American Horror Story covers a different story with a central horror theme, going from haunted houses to asylums to circuses and more. Although recent seasons havent been as successful as previous ones, American Horror Story continues to be quite popular.
The last three seasons of American Horror Story have done some things differently that divided critics and viewers. American Horror Story: Double Feature was divided into two parts (Red Tide and Death Valley), NYC took the audience to 1980s New York City during the rapid spread of AIDS, and Delicate...

There’s a popular idiom often attributed to Picasso about how good artists copy and great artists steal. Naturally, this isn’t referring to plagiarism, but rather the idea that it’s better for an artist to reproduce something directly from the source instead of simply regurgitating it as-is. The way I see it, this sentiment also applies to creative rip-offs, as I’ll take an unlicensed cash-grab over endless sequels any day of the week.
After all, this is how we got beloved franchises like Friday the 13th (the original film was an attempt at capitalizing on the success of Halloween) and even Star Wars (A New Hope was meant to be a cheap Flash Gordon knock-off). And in honor of all the rip-offs that continue to feed the ouroboros that is popular culture, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six spooky Mockbusters that are actually worth your time.

American Horror Story season 13 looks set to bring back some huge names, but Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters' return should only happen if it's the show's final season. The long-running series started in 2011 and has featured plenty of popular actors over the years. With each season focusing on a fresh, unique story, new additions have joined the cast frequently, while some regulars have come back year after year. While some American Horror Story seasons connect, others are completely independent, allowing actors to play a variety of different roles and characters throughout their time with the franchise.
Out of everyone who has appeared on the show, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson have been two of American Horror Story's most frequently returning actors. They have both played heroes and villains within the chaotic horror universe and, as a result, are two of the most popular actors among the audience. Unfortunately, neither...

Sarah Paulson has been a mainstay on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story anthology series since her recurring role in the first season of the FX show in 2011, retroactively dubbed Murder House.
While promoting her new Hulu thriller Hold Your Breath, Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts asked if she would return to the horror franchise again.
“I think there is a big chance that I will return to American Horror Story,” Paulson said. “I’ve got everything crossed. I would like to do it more than anything. It’s my home. It’s where I started.”

Five years ago, Warner Bros. and Todd Phillips’ “Joker” pulled off a series of firsts, including the first comic book film to win the Golden Lion and the Best Actor Oscar, as well as the first R-rated film to gross $1 billion at the global box office.
“Joker: Folie à Deux” will not reach that $1 billion mark, but there’s still a chance that the follow-up can be a hit film for Warner — if fans of the original embrace the musical numbers that take place inside Arthur Fleck’s fractured mind. Warner Bros. is projecting an opening weekend in the $50 million range, which would put it in the neighborhood of the $55 million opening earned by last year’s big DC flop “The Flash.”
Like the first film, reviews for “Folie à Deux” are mixed, currently standing at 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. Back in 2019, those reviews meant little to audiences, who were floored...

DC Fans Believe Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn Deserves Her Own Solo Flick - Main Image

DC Fans Want Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn To Reprise Role in Own Solo Film

DC Studios is creating a new shared world meant to rival the MCU, but it sounds like Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav's patience may already be wearing thin.
Last year's strikes saw James Gunn and Peter Safran forced to down tools on several upcoming Dcu movies and TV shows. Ryan Murphys new horror series Grotesquerie has arrived on FX and Hulu, and the shows Rotten Tomatoes scores reveal how it stacks up against American Horror Story. First announced in February this year, Murphy co-created the series with Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, after his five-year exclusive development deal with Netflix ended in 2023. Starring Niecy Nash-Betts as a small-town detective who turns to a Catholic nun (Micaela Diamond) to help solve a series of disturbing crimes, Grotesquerie recently debuted its first two episodes on September 25.

Branding is central to Ryan Murphy’s TV empire, but the brand names themselves can often feel a little fungible.
Take Murphy’s output in this current two-week period: FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez absolutely could have been renamed Hernandez: Monster — The Aaron Hernandez Story. Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story probably could have been Feud: The Menendez Family. I haven’t seen ABC’s Doctor Odyssey, but all promotion indicates that it’s 9-1-1: Love Boat.
On that shifting scale, FX’s Grotesquerie could easily have had the American Horror Story name appended in front of it. With hints of Cult, Coven and Asylum immediately evident, it looks to take almost an everything bagel approach to the signatures of that series.
After only two episodes (none were made available for critics ahead of the premiere), it’s too early to tell...

Samuel L. Jackson recalls how his iconic Snakes on a Plane line almost wasn't included in the movie. Released in 2006, Snakes on a Plane is directed by David R. Ellis, with Jackson starring as an FBI agent who finds himself facing off against dozens of venomous snakes while flying a valuable witness from Hawaii to Los Angeles. The film, which also stars Julianna Margulies, Rachel Blanchard, and Kenan Thompson, earned lukewarm reviews, and is now fondly remembered for Jackson's line: "I have had it with these motherf---ing snakes on this motherf---ing plane."
In a recent interview with GQ, Jackson reflects on his experience making Snakes on a Plane, revealing that the film initially wasn't targeting an R-rating. As a result, despite Jackson's protests, his iconic line wasn't even filmed during principal photography, with the moment only coming to be after test screenings and a pivot in direction for the movie.

"Batman & Robin" was so panned for its campiness that Warner Bros. had no choice but to pivot to a dark and gritty reboot, resulting in Christopher Nolan's acclaimed "Dark Knight" trilogy. This is filmmaking mythology almost as well-known as Batman's own origin of alleyway orphaning. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige even calls "Batman & Robin" one of the most important superhero movies, for it taught studios that fans wouldn't settle for schlock. In hindsight, it's almost unbelievable that "Batman & Robin" and "Batman Begins" premiered only eight years apart; the Dark Knight's fall didn't last long!
There were abandoned plans for director Joel Schumacher to make a third Batman film, though. "Batman Unchained," to be penned by Mark Protosevich (rather than previous screenwriter Akiva Goldsman) was supposedly going to be "darker." While Ryan Murphys new show Grotesquerie may not recapture American Horror Storys cult success, the series is trying something that the anthology show never quite pulled off. According to TheHollywoodReporter, nearly a fifth of scripted TV shows from 2019-2020 were cop shows. The police procedural has been one of the most popular formats in American television history since Dragnet began back in 1951, so it is no surprise that Ryan Murphys new series Grotesquerie leans into the format. What is surprising is how long it took for the legendary TV producer to take advantage of this multi-decade trend.

Long before Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, The Asylum was updating and repurposing myths and fairy tales into films like The 7 Adventures of Sinbad, 3 Musketeers, Avengers Grimm and the absolutely bizarre King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Here, they’ve taken the legend of Snow White and thrown in a name check of Kurosawa’s classic Seven Samurai to give us Snow White and the Seven Samurai.

Jersey Shore star Jenni "JWoww" Farley is trying something new with her upcoming directorial feature film debut Devon, a found-footage horror film that was recently acquired by Cineverse.
Described as "every parent's worst nightmare," Devon follows a group of friends investigating an unsolved disappearance. One day, a girl named Devon disappears from an asylum, leading her parents on a long and arduous search to find her. But with the asylum later condemned, the trail goes cold and her parents are at a loss. Years later, a mysterious advertisement on a website invites individuals to explore the abandoned asylum and potentially find out what happened to the missing girl.
"Unaware that they are embarking on a perilous, one-way journey, these individuals delve into the sinister depths with only their equipment, leading to a terrifying and deadly experience," says the Cineverse press release.

If the meta humor of Deadpool & Wolverine has you craving more fourth wall breaking, then you can even turn to games! Breaking the fourth wall is a technique where a game or some other piece of media, acknowledges its own existence.
This often results in characters speaking directly to the player or viewer to create a sense of awareness. Here are five games that masterfully blur the line between fiction and reality, engaging players in ways that go beyond traditional gameplay.

From the writer of Shark Side of the Moon comes The Asylum’s Shark Warning, which is first swimming to limited theaters on July 26 before arriving on VOD outlets on July 30.
In Shark Warning, “After 20 years, a man returns to the town where his brother was killed by a shark. But when it resurfaces and kills again, the man decides to hunt down the predator.”
Of course, the storyline is set into motion when a bunch of pesky humans commit the cardinal sin of shark attack movies, putting their own greed ahead of the safety of the town’s residents. Yup, it’s another low-budget Jaws. You already know what you’re getting from this one.
The film will be opening in the following theaters this Friday:
Laemmle Glendale – Glendale, CA Hickory Ridge Cinemas – Brunswick, Oh Trylon Cinema – Minneapolis, Mn Film Noir Cinema – Brooklyn, NY Aurora Cineplex – Roswell, Ga
