To celebrate the brilliant Rani Mukherjee’s birthday, Subhash K Jha shares some special memories and outstanding performances by the actress in this fabulous feature.
Though she was already one by then, the first time I met Rani Mukherjee, I couldn’t believe she was a star. Short and pretty plain, she walked into my then-good friend Akshay Kumar’s makeup room to say hello. They were both shooting in the same studio on adjoining sets…he for Khiladi 420 and she for Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega .
Akshay and I were having lunch with some friends when the door opened. Rani walked in wearing clothes that depict a typical party sequence in our films and heels so high they looked like stilts!
Rani, being Rani, shook hands with everyone in the room with a democratic smile and saved a special smile and a hug for the hero in the room.

One film in which she could have had an opportunity to show her prowess as an actor was Kal Ho Naa Ho, directed by Nikkhil Advani and produced by Karan Johar. However, the role went to Preity Zinta, and Rani confronted Karan Johar on the latter’s talk show, Koffee with Karan, about not taking her for the film.

When Salman Khan took a dig at Kareena Kapoor for delivering flops with him! (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Superstar Salman Khan is often known to unabashedly pull the leg of his close friends and former co-stars in the film industry. One of them was Kareena Kapoor Khan, whom he had once called out in jest for giving him two box office flops. The throwback incident happened when the actress appeared on his show Bigg Boss 4 along with her Golmaal 3 co-actors to promote the film.
Talking about the same, Salman Khan asked Kareena Kapoor Khan whether she had worked with her Golmaal 3 co-star Ajay Devgn before to which she quickly named their films Gomaal Returns and Omkara. Salman observed that both of these movies were huge box office hits and were also critically acclaimed. The actor then jokingly told her, “Waah 2 hit, toh mujhe 2 flop kyun diye aapne?” which left everyone in splits.

In December last year we saw the release of the Rohit Shetty directed film Dilwale featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. The film which was produced by Red Chillies and Rohit Shetty Productions, despite featuring a star studded cast and insane promotions did not perform as expected at the box office. However, now months after its release we hear that Shah Rukh Khan, whose production Red Chillies took over the distribution of the film in India has decided to refund the individual distributors to a certain extent for the losses incurred.
In fact back in 2001 and 2005, Shah Rukh Khan had refunded the individual distributors of his films Asoka (Eros) and Paheli (Utv), after both films underperformed at the box office. As a direct result of the actor's 2001 film Asoka underperforming at the box office, Shah Rukh's subsequent release Chalte Chalte was sold for a much lower price.

With a very heavy heart, we present our tribute to one of Bollywood’s finest music composers, Aadesh Srivastava, who sadly lost his battle with cancer. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire Srivastava and Pandit family. Aadeshji has two sons, Avitesh and Anivesh, with his wife Vijayta Pandit, who is sister of the famous Music Director duo Jatin-Lalit.
Aadeshji was not only a music director but also a background score composer. He gave the background score to many films, such as Humraaz, Ye Hai Jalwa and Paheli, the latter being one of our favorite and most noted background scores.
Before we take a look at our favourite songs composed by Aadeshji, here are some special tributes from his colleagues within the music industry that have had the chance to work with him and meet him over the years:

Shiamak is known as the Guru of Dance, and has choreographed some of the best dance pieces for stage and screen. To celebrate the choreographer’s birthday, we thought we would shine the light on his work in films! He truly has an eye for creating incredible creativity with his choreography on screen and we know you will enjoy watching every one.
‘Dhoom Again’ – Dhoom 2
The huge success of Dhoom 2 helped to solidify Hrithik Roshan’s career and no doubt his remarkable dance performance in the opening song ‘Dhoom Again’ showed him at his finest. Shiamak was of course responsible for the jaw-dropping choreography that can be seen throughout the song. It’s bold, edgy and something which we have never really seen in Bollywood before. Kudos to Shiamak on giving the song a big ‘dhoom!’

Queen of Bollywood, Queen of Hearts, Dil Ki Rani are just some of the words synonymous with Rani Mukerji. She debuted back in 1996 with the film Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat, which tanked at the box office. People started writing her off even before she emerged. But then came the turning points of her career, in the form of Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, and she proved that she’s here to stay. While Ghulam gave her the title of ‘Khandala Girl’, while Kuch Kuch Hota Hai made people take notice of this amazing actor who had the ability and talent to stand her own ground in front of superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. She went onto win lots of accolades for both her films and there was no turning back. With her impeccable talent and infectious spontaneity, she ruled the industry and people’s hearts for several years.

Mumbai, Aug 10: Popular singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who has sung several songs for superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has now lent his voice to Bollywood's young hearthrob Ranbir Kapoor in "Besharam". He says he doesn't sing for the old crop of actors now because his voice is as young as ever.

During the early days of Shah Rukh's career, the veteran singer has lent voice to many of his songs, including "Main koi aisa geet", "Chalte chalte" and "Tumhe.

If all goes according to plan, you can next see Srk sharing screen space with none other than Abhishek Bachchan. The last time they had worked together is in Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida naa Kehna. The relationship between Srk and Abhishek had been somewhat strained because of his uneasy equation with Aishwariya Rai. Differences arose between Srk and Aishwariya when she abruptly left the cast of Chalte chalte. As a result, Shah Rukh was not included in the guest list of the wedding of Ash and Abhi in 2007. However, the two stars did work together in Kabhi Alvida naa Kehna. Now it seems choreographer turned director Fara...
