Oh My God You Guys, We Have Our First Look at the ‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel Series

We finally have a first look at Elle, the hotly anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series. Reese Witherspoon unveiled the first look at Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods on Instagram today. Witherspoon, who portrayed Woods in two Legally Blonde films, is executive producing the upcoming Prime Video series. Witherspoon also announced that the series is now in production.

Witherspoon announced the start of filming with the photo of a pink-garbed Minetree talking on a very-1990s clear plastic landline telephone, and its caption: "Harvard was hard. High School was harder. Our new series, Elle, is now in production!" Minetree was cast after an extensive search to play the iconic comedy role, spearheaded by Witherspoon herself. Starring alongside Minetree are June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie) as her mother, Eva, and Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do!) as her father, Wyatt. The Legally Blonde prequel series just cast two important characters from the movie
Image
The Legally Blonde franchise announced it would adapt a prequel series, Elle, on Amazon Prime Video. Prime ordered the series in May 2024 and began searching for a young and upcoming actress to play the teenage Elle Woods. After many months, they landed on their choice in February 2025, with the casting of Elle's parents following in March. Ten months into the process, the Legally Blonde prequel TV series has completed the Woods family trio.

There isn't much known about Elle Woods' parents, but there are brief scenes of them in the movies. We can assume they played crucial roles in Elle's teen years. Because their parts are essential, fans will expect great acting from the prequel's actors.

As of March, Prime Video announced that Tom Everett Scott and June Diane Raphael will appear as Elle Woods' parents in Elle. James Read and Tane McClure previously held the parts of Elle's parents...

Reese Witherspoon’s ‘Legally Blonde’ Was Nearly Destroyed With a Rom-Com Style Ending
Image
Reese Witherspoon’s 2001 Legally Blonde broke more barriers than one. While it started with a classic rom-com girl getting the guy back vibe, it slowly turned into a transformational journey of Witherspoon’s character Elle Woods.

Interestingly, the writers initially had a different ending planned for the movie. While the final version focused on Elle Woods coming into her own, the initial movie wanted to highlight that she did get her boyfriend back.

The test audience, however, wasn’t on board with that. As, according to them, it took away the entire message the movie wanted to showcase. So, the writers came up with the idea to change the narrative to fit the theme better. Hence, the all-time classic was born.

Bob Newhart, the iconic comedian and actor who launched a more than six-decade run in show business in 1960 with his introduction of a deadpan, stammering everyman character whose popularity he rode well into his 80’s with a Grammy-winning comedy album and a pair of beloved Emmy-nominated sitcoms, is dead. He was 94 and passed away at his home on Thursday following a short illness. His longtime publicist Jerry Digney announced his death in a press release.

Newhart burst on the scene in 1960 with his album “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” the first comedy album ever to top the Billboard charts. It won three Grammy Awards in ’61, including Album of the Year, Spoken-Word Comedy Album and New Artist. ‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel Series ‘Elle’ Is Just the Latest Franchise Installment in Reese Witherspoon’s Enduring Empire
Image
Reese Witherspoon has bent and snapped her way into a full-fledged “Legally Blonde” empire.

After playing L.A. sorority girl turned Harvard Law School student — and arguably, feminist icon — Elle Woods in 2001, Witherspoon has led sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde” and is slated to star in a third film written by Mindy Kaling and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor. Kaling previously teased that the third film will center on Elle Woods reevaluating both her career and her perspective on life at age 42, telling Time magazine that she would never want the character to “be canceled or become a Karen.”

While the status of that trilogy installment is still unknown, given that the feature was announced in 2022, Witherspoon has turned instead to building out the “Legally Blonde” brand through TV.

IndieWire can confirm that a “Legally Blonde” prequel series titled “Elle” is in the works at Prime Video, with Witherspoon producing.

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From The Bob Newhart Show
Image
CBS sitcom "The Bob Newhart Show" was a staple for American TV audiences of the '70s, thanks in large part to clever writing and Newhart's much-loved performance as psychologist and comedic straight man Bob Hartley. The show ran for six seasons from 1972 to 1978, but it had a surprisingly long pop cultural afterlife. Characters from "The Bob Newhart Show" have popped up in everything from "Murphy Brown" to "St. Elsewhere" to "Alf," though their most famous reappearance came in the jokey "Newhart" finale in 1990. In it, Newhart wakes up in bed next to his wife from the previous series and discovers that this entire sitcom was all an elaborate dream. "The Bob Newhart Show," it turned out, was his real world.

When it wasn't being resurrected for increasingly meta crossovers, "The Bob Newhart Show" was a pretty straightforward sitcom about the life of a mental health clinician and the assortment...

Legally Blonde Series In The Works At Prime Video With Reese Witherspoon Producing
Image
Long before Greta Gerwig's pink pop cultural juggernaut Barbie came along, the fuchsia feminist revolution began with 2001's Legally Blonde. As blonde and brilliant SoCal socialite-turned-Harvard law student Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon helped create a bona-fide cult classic and one of the 21st century's first great big screen heroines. Now, a couple of decades after 2003 sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, Witherspoon is gearing up to return to Elle Woods' world with her Hello Sunshine production company for several new Amazon spin-off series.

As reported by Deadline, Witherspoon — whose first Hello Sunshine/Amazon collaboration, Daisy Jones & The Six, debuted on Prime Video last year — is set to team up with Gossip Girl developers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage for the first project, which is furthest along in development. Schwartz and Savage are set to write the series, whose plot currently remains tightly under wraps, with Witherspoon taking on a producing role.

The studio is in development on a “Legally Blonde” spinoff TV series inspired by the perfectly pink comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, who is also producing the series through her company Hello Sunshine, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.
