This month’s WWE premium live event is about as well-named as they come. In the main event, Cm Punk and Drew McIntyre will settle their months-long feud that has already ventured far beyond the squared circle and included dogs, friendship bracelets, and title belts. Also on the card, Rhea Ripley will look to get back her WWE Women’s World Championship belt from Liz Morgan, who not only knocked her out of action earlier this year but also stole her boy toy, Dominik Mysterio. Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns will team up for a tag match against Reigns’ cousins and former stablemates, The Bloodline. It doesn’t get much more personal than pets, boyfriends, and family. You can watch the entire event on Saturday, Oct. 5 starting at 6 p.m. with a Subscription to Peacock.

Match #1: Raw Women’s Championship Match – Bianca Belair def. Becky Lynch The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch have collided many times, but the animosity reached a new level as the two Superstars stared each other down with fire in their eyes before the bell. Lynch used her ring skills to avoid the power of Belair, basking in the boos as she focused on the arm of The Est of WWE. After turning the tide with a standing moonsault, Belair hunted down Big Time Becks outside the ring. Belair looked for a K.O.D. on the barricade, but Lynch landed on her feet,...

According to a new report from Forbes and a couple of other news outlets, it looks like the WWE is about to do something pretty wild with Roman Reigns' (above) character in an effort to try and cure Raw's declining ticket sales. Apparently, the WWE has plans to reunite Roman Reigns with his former tag team buddies Dean Ambrose and Seth "Freakin" Rollins to put The Shield back together again! They report that James McKenna of Pro Wrestling Sheet put out a tweet with a picture of the Shield. He captioned it with the words: "wowwww, hearing that to kickstart some ticket sales - they’re planning to give TLC in a month a Major card upgrade. its finally happeninggg." You guys can view the tweet on James McKenna's official Twitter account by Clicking Here. Forbes also said the Shield reunion was confirmed by the WWE booking team.

(Updated at 3:18 p.m. Et with comment from WWE.) Vince McMahon wants you to take your (beach) ball and go home: the pro-wrestling promotion banned the WWE Universe from bringing “beach balls, pool noodles or any other inflatable items that could be bounced around” for Tuesday’s “SmackDown Live” show, according to wrestling blog PWInsider. This week’s banishment stems from an incident during Sunday’s “SummerSlam” pay-per-view, in which WWE Superstar Cesaro left the ring apron, jumped the crowd barricade, and tore up a beach ball that was being bounced throughout the Barclays Center during his and Sheamus...

The Great White Way met the squared circle on Sunday night when “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda made a surprise appearance at WWE SummerSlam. The acclaimed composer/playwright/actor and overall badass was spotted ringside at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York, for the WWE flagship event. Having won a Pulitzer, three Tony Awards, two Grammys, an Emmy and been nominated for an Oscar, Miranda easily slipped into the role of “excited WWE fan,” as he cheered and jeered along with the sell-out crowd. Brock Lesnar may have finally met his match — something WWE will exploit in the near future for an actual match. As if Braun Strowman power-slamming “The Beast Incarnate” through two announce tables wasn’t enough to satisfy Sunday’s “SummerSlam” main event, the aptly monikered “Monster Among Men” dumped the third ringside desk onto the WWE Universal Champion’s already bruised body. Lesnar was carted off after gamely taking those rough bumps, seemingly turning the evening’s Fatal 4-Way into a Triple Threat match between remaining competitors Strowman, Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe. However, Paul Heyman’s top client would...

WWE SummerSlam took over the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, this weekend — and, as expected, the result was epic. With an A-list lineup of stars such Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles and Kevin Owens, the Big Apple certainly delivered the goods. The packed card in front of a sold-out crowd provided endless entertainment, from a historic tag team tournament to a brave WWE superstar daring to take on the mountain man Brock Lesnar (with a little help from the set). Nxt: Takeover: Chicago will air this Saturday on the WWE Network for the first time outside of their quarterly, big four schedule. (The big four I reference of course being the WWE events Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series.) Taking place at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, the show features the best and brightest of the WWE Nxt brand. Since the Nxt brand has consistently put on some of the best shows of the year for the WWE, I thought we'd take a few minutes to go through the card for the show while I offer some predictions on who may win.
Roderick Strong vs Eric Young
Roderick Strong has been on one heck of a roll as of late. He's still pretty young despite his years in Ring of Honor and other organizations. The WWE has a blue chipper on their hands with Roddy and I think...

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs The Rock- Wrestlemania 17
“Shaking hands with Satan himself.”
Wrestlemania 17, hands down, is the best Wrestlemania booked to date. Apart from a horribly short Women’s Championship match with Chyna facing off against Ivory, from the opening match to the main event, every match was great.
The main event of the show was "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs The Rock. The previous year, Austin had been recovering from long needed neck surgery sustained at the hands of Owen Hart at Summerslam 1997. During his time away, superstars like The Rock and Triple H stepped up their game and became main event players in their own right. When you are out of action for close to a year, there is a very real fear that by the time you get back in the ring you would have lost a step or two. Or worse, that the fans would...

It’s that time of year again. Wrestlemania is soon upon us. This event has become the most important event in professional wrestling, showcasing the best of the best of the sport putting on the show of their lives. With Wrestlemania appearing this Sunday on the WWE Network, I thought I’d take the time to discuss my ten favorite Wrestlemania matches, matches that to me epitomize everything that is great about the event. Like any list, it is purely subjective so if you disagree with anything or feel I left something out, let’s discuss it in the comments below.
Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant- Wrestlemania 3
“The irresistible force meeting the immovable object!”
Without Wrestlemania 3, it’s possible that Wrestlemania could have gone the way of Starrcade. The first two Wrestlemania’s, while star studded and showing some glimpses of what the event eventually became, were more events of their time.

Monday Night Raw is in the books for another week. One day after the aftermath of the Royal Rumble, the Raw brand finds itself on the Road to Wrestlemania. How did the show fare this week?
One big development is the official challenge from Brock Lesnar to Goldberg for one last match at Wrestlemania. Brock’s advocate, the legendary Paul Heyman, once again did the talking for him which, even on Paul’s worst night, is always a treat to watch.
Heyman’s promo on Raw was the textbook reason why some people need managers. Brock Lesnar, unless he’s in an interview setting, is about as interesting on the mic as watching paint dry. (I say this with confidence because he’s not in the room with me as I write this. If he were to walk into the room right now, I would say ‘Yes Mr. Lesnar, you...

1.Adam Cole came out victorious, as predicted by me last week, at Death Before Dishonor. It’s a well deserved victory for an up and coming star. What that victory, it caps Ring of Honor’s first real attempt at an episodic story line. One legitimate issue I’ve had with Ring of Honor television is the fact that apart from some rudimentary nods to their Pay Per Views, the shows have been random matches that have no real meaning. Wrestling is story telling. If we wanted to see two guys, or ladies, fight, we’d watch Mma. While the story was spotty, the fact they found a way to keep us viewed to the screen every week is a step in the right direction if the company hopes to expand. One bit of advice I have for Ring of Honor. Get Steve Corino back on color commentary! You have...

In a move as inevitable as The Rock dropping a People’s Elbow on somebody at WrestleMania, WWE have released the third in their Attitude Era series, focusing this time on previously unreleased content. This gives this volume a slightly different feel to the previous two, but is a little hit and miss because of it.
What does work about this volume is drafting Corey Graves in to provide context and comment between each of the fifteen matches in the main feature. Graves brings an enthusiasm and knowledge to this role that others sometimes lack, namely John Bradshaw Layfield on the recent Us Championship release, and his comments are interesting and enlightening.
The choice of matches, too, is inspired with WWE digging deep to present several previously unreleased matches that are historically significant in the company’s history. The jewel in the crown of these has to be the first...

With the WWE once again trying to pull off a successful brand split, separating the entire WWE roster between Raw and Smackdown, the question becomes who will be on which show. More specifically, who will be the top man for each brand? It may not be who you think.
Like him or not, John Cena has been the biggest name in World Wrestling Entertainment for a decade. He’s a 15-time champion and will probably end up breaking Ric Flair’s record of 16 championships. However, over the last two years, WWE CEO and God, Mr. Vincent Kennedy McMahon has been determined to push his pet project Roman Reigns to the moon, making him the new face of the company. Reigns has become a three-time champion in less than a year. Rumor had it (until recently, anyway) that he was set to win a fourth belt at Battleground.

The Intercontinental Championship has been the cornerstone of the WWF/E midcard for nearly forty years. During that time, it’s been considered a stepping stone to the big time, and has been contested in the main event at five WWF pay-per-views, including WrestleMania and SummerSlam.
It’s also seen a marked downturn in fortunes recently, in no small part due to abysmally short-sighted booking strategies that have seen the company’s chosen stars booked preferentially over the entire roster, at the expense of building new stars and creating a future.

Standing there adorned in his cape and crown, the 1995 King Of The Ring winner soaked up boos from the World Wrestling Federation’s fans. ‘King’ Mabel had been crowned, defeating the likes of The Undertaker and Savio Vega on his way to becoming only the third ‘King’ in the history of the event on pay-per-view. There was only one major problem, fans weren’t booing because they detested Mabel as a top heel, they were jeering because they hated the idea of him being in main events.
People recoiled instantly at the mere thought of seeing Mabel vs. Diesel at that year’s SummerSlam. Previous King Of The Ring winners like Bret Hart and Owen Hart had seemed deserved, due to their incredible skill inside the ring. Mabel was simply an extremely large man, a physical attribute Vince McMahon seemed to think would be enough to explain why he was headlining.

Four years after his shock return to WWE, Brock Lesnar has been steadily built up into the most unstoppable monster in professional wrestling… maybe in professional wrestling history.
What are the points of comparison? Bruiser Brody was bigger and more unhinged, and Big Van Vader was just as horribly violent, but both men were capable of losing a singles match to the right opponent. Abdullah The Butcher was a gruesome sideshow attraction, and no matter how overwhelmingly monstrous Umaga seemed, he was only created to be fed to John Cena.
Well, Lesnar lost to Cena too – in his first match back in the company in 2012 – and then he came back and ate him alive at SummerSlam 2014 for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, causing impromptu conga lines to break out in the homes of wrestling fans worldwide.

WWE have officially broke their all time attendance record.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WrestleMania 32 at Dallas’ Cowboys Stadium is close to sold out, with 84,000 tickets gone as of this week. This puts WWE over the 79,127 record attendance which has stood since SummerSlam 1992 at Wembley Stadium.
Of course there’s also the fake numbers to consider here. WWE always state a 93,173 number as their record crowd, which was the WrestleMania 3 show. The actual attendance for the Michigan event was 78,000.
Roman Reigns and Triple H will have the honour of main eventing the biggest WWE wrestling show of all time, but the truth is that tickets are sold on the power of the Mania brand alone. Not a single match was announced when tickets first got snapped up.
It goes to show, as much as fans complain online, WWE’s business receipts are proving that Vince McMahon can...

Wrestlemania 32 is a little more than a month away, and now that we’re firmly into Wrestlemania season, it’s time to look back at some of the great Wrestlemanias of the past. Specifically, it’s time to look at not just the greatest Wrestlemania of all time, but the greatest Pay Per View of all time: Wrestlemania X7.
Taking place 15 years ago on April 1, 2001, at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX, the show was nearly flawless from top to bottom (save a few hiccups here and there; Eddie Guerrero vs. Test comes to mind). Historically, the show was also a bookend to the most successful period in WWF/E history: the Attitude Era. It was a perfect blend of great matches, great storytelling, nostalgia, breathtaking spots, and some serious shocks.
Other Wrestlemanias have since given X7 a run for its money (Xix in 2003, 21 in 2005, and even 31 last...

May, 1995 was the month when the then-World Wrestling Federation decided to go monthly with their pay-per-view specials. The previous year, only Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, King Of The Ring, SummerSlam and Survivor Series had been on PPV, but they were soon joined by the In Your House series. This allowed Vince McMahon to offer fans cut-price events which would help fill in the gaps between the major shows.
Over time, the idea of monthly pay-per-view would prove to be a success, but it’d take the WWF audience a while to warm up to the concept. The cheaper In Your House shows were two hours in length, shorter than the three afforded to the regular supershows. They came across as lower rent too, but that didn’t mean there couldn’t be awesome matches for fans who did tune in to enjoy.
Eventually, the In Your House branding lessened,...

Well, it happened again on Monday. The crowd at Monday Night Raw that had lost their minds three hours earlier for the returning Shane McMahon were just as vocal for Roman Reigns at the end. And by that, I mean they took great delight in watching the decidedly-nefarious Triple H brutalize Reigns into a bloody mess.
You’d think this was the same Triple H that heroically returned in 2002 from his torn quadriceps injury, based on the reaction he received for mauling stubbornly-pushed hero Reigns. Had this taken place in front of 17,000 Nxt diehard fans, the roof may have literally blown off of Joe Louis Arena.
It’s no secret that Reigns is quite possibly the biggest flop as a pushed babyface star since the days of “All American” Lex Luger, and smiling, carefree Diesel of two decades ago. Every trick in the book has been employed to...

For weeks, rumors have been circulating that former WWE star Rey Mysterio Jr. is interested in heading back to the company, with some predicting that he’ll be back by SummerSlam. Given the structure of his contract with Lucha Underground, though, that may not be possible.
After a year of requesting it, Mysterio was finally granted his WWE release in early 2015. With an interest in working a reduced schedule, Mysterio signed with Mexican promotion Aaa, becoming one of the company’s top stars along with Perro Aguayo Jr, Alberto El Patron, and Myzteziz. Unfortunately, by the end of the year, Alberto and Myzteziz had left – to say nothing of the tragic in-ring accident that killed Aguayo.
Mysterio has since debuted for Aaa’s sister promotion, Lucha Underground, but with reports that Aaa was having trouble paying him, a WWE return has looked more and more likely. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter,...

Rey Mysterio could be back in WWE by SummerSlam, Dr Lucha Steve Sims has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio.
The 41 year old has already left Aaa, reportedly due to financial qualms. He’s booked for an independent iPPV against Kurt Angle next month, and has commitments with Lucha Underground, but beyond that would be available for WWE. It isn’t thought that it would be too hard for him to get out of his Lucha Underground deal.
With everything considered, a SummerSlam return does make the most sense. It gives both WWE and Mysterio the time to book the return properly. Bringing him back at WrestleMania could see him lost in the shuffle, in addition to creating problems with Lucha Underground. A SummerSlam return is far more realistic.
As for Rey’s potential spot back in WWE, expect him to be pegged in the mid card. He’s...

Brock Lesnar versus Braun Strowman is on the books for SummerSlam, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting.
On top of that, Strowman is also set for a feud with Roman Reigns, which will presumably be a WWE Title feud. In Vince McMahon’s mind, he probably sees Hogan versus Andre.
To prepare the Black Sheep for all of that, the Observer says the WWE have plans to book him as the winner of this year’s Andre The Giant Battle Royal. That will kick start a big push, eventually culminating in the match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
This means the chances of Strowman versus The Undertaker at WrestleMania are over. “Any talk of Undertaker vs. Strowman now is 99 percent dead,” the Observer states.
That’s a relief, as that match would have undoubtedly sucked. At least against Lesnar at SummerSlam, Strowman will be in there against a...

Wrestling’s not all that different from legitimate sports in a number of regards, among them the ‘what could have been’ instances. In sports, it could be one play in a game that, had it gone just a smidge differently, could have swung an entire outcome. For wrestling, it comes down to decisions, both from the office and the workers. Had all hands on deck agreed to go a certain way with a proposed idea, wrestling history as we know it could be much different in many aspects.
WrestleMania lore is loaded with ideas that ended up crumpled and littered on the power broker’s floor. Maybe an injury changed fate. Maybe somebody exercised creative control and killed an idea. Perhaps Vince McMahon himself, going through one of his many abrupt changes of heart, decided to roll in a different direction, as he’s apt to do.

The Yes man started his journey to the top of the wrestling mountain in 1999 when he joined Shawn Michaels’ training school. In the decade that followed he’d wrestle across the world in Japan, the Us, Mexico and became a legend in Ring of Honor before signing with WWE in 2010.
Initially, he was part of the Nxt game show format and when he debuted on Raw with the Nexus, he got fired for choking Justin Roberts with a tie, although he’d be brought back a few months later at SummerSlam of that year.

The Attitude Era was the most magical period in World Wrestling Entertainment history, a time where characters were vivid and well-defined, stories were compelling and content was as over-the-top as imaginable. Sex, violence and anti-authority sentiment dominated Monday Night Raw, garnering record television ratings and spawning a new broadcast known as SmackDown. Superstars such as The Rock, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Mankind, The Undertaker, Sable, Chyna and Kane became household names while personalities like Val Venis, Goldust, D’Lo Brown and “Sexual Chocolate” Mark Henry became fan favorites of the die-hard audience.
As excellent as the television was, as intriguing as the stories were and as entertaining as the characters proved to be, the matches they crafted helped set the era apart from others.

In this regular feature I intend to put my quarter-of-a-century of wrestling viewing to good use by helping to educate and inform the modern fan about the greats of a generation they missed out on.
Bret Hart was one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time, possessing the ability to contest barn-burning matches with a variety of different opponents. He was a master technician. A creator of fine art between the ropes. He has not wrestled in a decade-and-a-half, so chances are many of the new generation of wrestling fans have never had the pleasure of watching him wrestle.
It would be all too easy to randomly select seven great Bret Hart matches, and lists of that ilk are readily available for those who want them. Everybody knows about Hart’s classics with Davey Boy Smith (SummerSlam ’92 and In Your House 5), Steve Austin (Survivor Series ’96 and WrestleMania 13...

Extreme Rules? Hell In A Cell? TLC? While the match types may be exciting, these aren’t the greatest names for WWE pay-per-view events.
WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Royal Rumble – those are some quality event names and there’s reasons they’ve survived for as long as they have. These shows have a certain “je ne sais quoi” or cachet that is often extremely hard to re-create and currently lacking from the lineup of WWE PPVs today.
Some are hokey, some are cheesy, and others are just downright lazy.
Then there are some old WCW titles that, despite some fans wanting to see resurrected, carry too much of a stigma from the now-defunct, once-upon-a-time enemy of WWE that Vince McMahon would likely not choose to put over by bringing back. Names like Starrcade, Fall Brawl, Bash At The Beach and SuperBrawl were such strong staples promotion that, while great PPV events,...

WrestleMania 33 could be heading back to Florida. PWInsider are reporting that Orlando is high on the list of potential hosts, and there has been a lot of developments in figuring out the logistics of bringing Mania back to the sunshine state.
Orlando previously hosted WrestleMania back in 2008, at the Citrus Bowl, in what was a very good event. The show is best remembered for Shawn Michaels retiring Ric Flair in an absolute classic, and Floyd Mayweather defeating Big Show in a bout that generated major publicity for WWE. Closing the show was The Undertaker over Edge.
In going back to Florida, it could play into plans for The Rock. He’ll be forty four by the time of WrestleMania 33, and retirement could be on his mind. One last match in his home state could be very tempting. Florida has always meant a lot to him.

It was 1998 and the WWE was in full-on transition mode, ushering in and solidifying the next wave of superstars. The talent who would go on to pass the torch to guys like Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and Randy Orton were peppered throughout the top of the SummerSlam card.
The main event featured The Undertaker taking on Stone Cold Steve Austin for the WWF Championship (more precisely, the smoking skull edition) but, ultimately, one match stole the show: The Rock versus Triple H in a ladder match for the Intercontinental Title.
Triple H and The Rock had been feuding for months by this point, which included the memorable skit in which Triple H became “The Crock” for a Nation of Domination parody segment on Raw. Hell In A Cell has become synonymous with The Undertaker over the years, and so it was fitting that 2015’s annual event was the place to finally bring his feud with Brock Lesnar, who lest we forget ended the Phenom’s legendary 21-0 streak at WrestleMania XXX, to a conclusion after their previous rematch at SummerSlam.
Whereas Lesnar arguably defeated a sub-par Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX, their SummerSlam rematch, which saw the Dead Man take the equalising victory by way of a low blow, was a much better affair, and their third and (allegedly) final and deciding bout in Hell In A Cell was entertaining but won’t make any future top ten Hiac match round ups.
Much better was the second Hell in a Cell bout between current WWE golden boy Roman Reigns and big bad in waiting Bray Wyatt, with both men bringing their A-game and delivering a...

Seth Rollins is advertised to return at WWE Raw this Monday.
The Target Center in Minneapolis, Minneasota has him featured as the main attraction alongside Roman Reigns. This could be an indication that the former Champion will be appearing, possibly to win a Slammy Award. He’s nominated in several categories for the awards, and it would represent his first appearance since going out injured.
WWE’s website isn’t advertising Rollins, but that could be because they are keeping it as a surprise. John Cena and Brock Lesnar may also be surprises on the night, given that they are nominated in several categories and it is Lesnar’s hometown.
If Rollins does return on Monday, it could be the start of his face turn. Presumably he’d want to address the new WWE Champion Roman Reigns, and it would help The Big Dog get over if he had Rollins’ blessing.

Many people have been presuming, for over a year now, that The Undertaker will be retiring at WrestleMania 32. On next week’s Raw, World Wrestling Entertainment will host the annual ‘Slammy Awards’. First introduced way back in 1986, the mock ceremony is a take off of the ‘Grammy Awards’ popularised in the world of music. More often than not, the Slammys have been treated in a light-hearted fashion, with several joke categories filling out the awards.

The very first TLC (or Tables, Ladders, and Chairs) match took place at SummerSlam 2000, mixing the signature weapons of Edge and Christian, The Hardy Boyz, and The Dudley Boyz to create a uniquely chaotic environment.
In 2009, though, WWE shuffled its pay-per-view lineup in an attempt to boost falling revenues, and as a result the beloved match got its very own show. Out went Armageddon and in came TLC. Like Hell in a Cell, the stipulation would no longer be used as needed and would instead be associated with a time of the year.
Unlike Hell in a Cell, WWE used the first-ever TLC PPV to get creative. In an email blast sent out to members of its Fan Council, WWE asked members to take a survey which addressed the state of Raw.
While reports are that Vince McMahon is not yet panicking over the alarming rate at which the show has been shedding viewers, this is at least a sign that they’re aware there’s a problem and are curious in the opinions of their fan base.
While many of the widespread criticisms of the product are well-known, WWE has yet to show any attempts to correct these aspects. Could this be the beginning of some major format changes to a show that has grown incredibly stagnant and formulaic?...
