'Getaway' game makes film play
Sony's Screen Gems is in final negotiations to acquire all feature film rights to popular video game The Getaway, sources said. Although the indie label declined comment on the deal, it's understood that Screen Gems is hoping to send the project into production early next year with a scheduled release date to coincide with the next edition of the video game. Both are expected to roll out sometime next year. The Getaway was published by Sony Computer Entertainment America and developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Team Soho. It launched Jan. 21. While the film deal is still being negotiated, it is expected that the parties involved will reach an agreement because they all belong to the Sony family.
