Oscar Winner Brandon Oldenburg Helming Animated Feature ‘Mouschi’ Based On Children’s Book ‘The Cat Who Lived With Anne Frank’

Exclusive: Oscar winner Brandon Oldenburg (The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore) will make his feature animation directing debut on Mouschi: The Cat Who Lived with Anne Frank — a new film based on the children’s book The Cat Who Lived with Anne Frank by David Lee Miller (My Suicide) and Steven Jay Rubin (Silent Night).

Billed as The Lion King meets Inglorious Basterds, Mouschi is a work of fantastical, historical fiction, reimagining the cat who lived with Anne Frank as an Amsterdam swashbuckler who becomes a freedom fighting hero of the Dutch Animal Resistance.

The Penguin imprint Philomel published the book with illustrations by Elizabeth Baddeley in 2019. Miller and Rubin penned the...

Film Review: The Mole Song: Final (2021) by Takashi Miike
Image
Is there a better way to open the third (and final) installment of The Mole Song than to expose agent Reiji Kikukawa’s (Toma Ikuta) holliest parts to danger yet again? It would be almost unthinkable to have the tradition of penis gags cut off in this bats trilogy which takes the mickey out of Japan’s underworld and plays with clichés surrounding masculinity.

Five years after “The Mole Song: Hong Kong Capriccio”, Reiji is back with his new adventures which involve an interesting type of fusion kitchen and a batlle against Sicilian seaguls, one of the film’s craziest scenes. This opener is every inch Miike, lovely in its madly choreographed slapstick nonsense. Who the heck cares that the actual rescue act isn’t shown, the mood to see what happens after the beak attack will win over.

Lea Michele's First Christmas Album Is Basically a Mini Glee Reunion, and It's So Festive
Happy holidays! Lea Michele just released her first Christmas album, and it's basically a mini Glee reunion (aka the best Christmas gift ever). Christmas in the City ($12) is inspired by Michele's childhood memories of spending the holidays in New York, the former Glee star told People. "I am finally able to share this with you! #ChristmasInTheCity coming soon," the actress and singer captioned her Instagram post revealing the cover of the 11-track album, which shows her posing in a red gown à la Carrie Bradshaw. "Can't wait to get into the holiday spirit with you guys."

Michele, who just married her husband, Zandy Reich, in March, said she's at a very happy time in her life, so releasing the album just "made sense." "It was always my dream to make a Christmas record," Michele said. "Christmas is so special to me. It's such an important time of year for me...
