    Pete the Pup

I've commented on this series in the past and I've found it a bit creepy, what with Arthur Trimble being dressed in that outfit and never getting dirty. Other people have called him "androgynous" but combine this series with the Kiddie comedies that contributor Charles Lamont did a few years later, dressing Shirley Temple up as a three-year-old hooker in POLLY TICKS IN WASHINGTON and you begin to wonder about whom they were making these movies for. Yes, I know, to the pure all things are pure and I have been known to have the occasional dirty thought. But the people who made this series were not stupid men and they had identified their audience. It's an audience I'd want to keep my kids away from.

General comments like that aside, this is a pretty good episode, because the Arthur Trimble content is low. This one is about Pete the Pup, about to leave Educational and enter the rarefied atmosphere of Roach's OUR GANG series. So, as they were about to lose the dog and he was the best actor on the lot, they made it his show. There are a few cheats, but that's 90% pure Pete as Tige, and you can see why Roach hired him away.
