THR reports this afternoon that Scott Derrickson will be directing the new take on The Night of the Hunter, with C. Robert Cargill (Sinister) writing.

Derrickson will write the script alongside Cargill, the report adds.

Colin Farrell returns to TV in Apple TV+'s Sugar, playing a detective character. Sugar is a contemporary private detective story set in LA, created by Mark Protosevich. The cast of Sugar includes Amy Ryan, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Dennis Boutsikaris.

The first images of Sugar highlight Colin Farrell's detective character. Known for his roles in Phone Booth, After Yang, and his Oscar-nominated performances in The Banshees of Inisherin, Farrell is returning to television in a big way for the first time since True Detective season 2. He'll reprise the role of The Penguin, which he originated in 2022's The Batman, for the upcoming Max spinoff show. Also returning for this one are Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon) as Finney Shaw, Madeleine McGraw (Secrets of Sulphur Springs) as Finney’s sister Gwen, Jeremy Davies (Justified) as their dad Terrence, and Miguel Mora, whose only previous credit is The Black Phone, as Robin, a friend of Finney’s who was killed in the first movie.
