Raghuvaran visits Kodaikanal with his friends. One day while drunk driving he sees Sumalatha all virginal white drenched in rain. Spur of the moment , he rapes her and both go their own ways . Both dont even get to see each others' faces . Filled with guilt , he wishes to go back to her to apologise but his friends dissuade him . Slowly Sumalatha realises that she is pregnant . Her sympathatic father initially tries to make her abort but she refuses .He gives in and eventually both move to Madras from Kodai selling off all their property . Meanwhile Raghu gets married to Mano chitra . Both Sumalatha and Chitra give birth to boys who are in the same class in Madras school. Their paths keep meeting and crossing . Sumalatha loses her father and all her property due to some mis handlings of finance by him .She starts working for Raghu . Finally both recognise each other . Slowly and sadly , Sumalatha's health starts deteriorating . Finally she succumbs to cancer. Her son is about to leave town when a repentant Raghu confides in his wife Chitra. Both adopt this child and all live together happily . A fine family movie . Raghu as usual is on top as a confused, guilty repentant loving caring husband and father . Its a treat to watch him in any role . Both the heroines are fine in their domestic roles wearing soft sarees. The child actor also emotes very well. Has some fine songs too .
