The plot is a little bit derivative of the first, following Brian on an undercover op, but it is a pretty fun story nonetheless.
We get to meet new characters Tej and Roman, who grow to become franchise regulars, and their introductions are very solid.
The direction is fairly slick. Some of the awkward choppy camera shots and whiplash inducing cuts remain, but there's plenty of impressive camera work in here too.
What I really enjoyed about this film though was the general tone. It is energetic and sleek and despite its flaws always carries a certain amount of charm and appeal.

- TriviaSo much neon lighting was used in the cars that a technical specialist whose expertise was in shooting neon on film was kept on set at all times.
- GoofsWhen the cops chase Brian after the first race, Agent Markham gets out of a squad car and shoots an electrical mechanism to disable Brian's car. Brian loses control and knocks over a parking meter. When he hits it barely any damage is done. In the next shot when the camera pans over his car, you can see that the hood is buckled, and the whole front end is basically destroyed (i.e the missing headlight, air dam and grille area). This damage to the car was done during an outtake, when Paul Walker crashed by accident.
- Quotes
Brian O'Connor: So, Dunn, looks like we're gonna be partners, bro. Could you tell me right quick what would be a better motor for my Skyline, a Gallo 12 or a Gallo 24?
Agent Dunn: Um...
[clears throat]
Agent Dunn: 24?
Brian O'Connor: I didn't know pizza places made motors.
- Crazy creditsThe Universal logo turns silver and spins into a hubcap.
- Alternate versionsOn newer U.S. broadcasts of the film (as of 2008), all Pepsi logos have been removed. Most notable is the scene where the gold Supra crashes on the billboard sign after jumping the bridge. The Pepsi sign is replaced with a blank blue wall.
