1.) Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the latest name to join Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. His character, a cocky gambler named Johnny, is considered one of the film's leads and was originally offered to Johnny Depp. "I love how the first move uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality," Gordon-Levitt said of the project. "Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez." Deadline also expects a few "tough guy actors" to be added shortly, with Josh Brolin considered one good possibility. As for Gordon-Levitt, the deal takes him out of the running for a few other roles he has been mulling over. One of those was the lead in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which now has Jim Sturgess, Zachary Levi and John Krasinski among those left in contention. 2.) Speaking of Gordon-Levitt, he passed...

A month ago we reported that Marvel Studios and director James Gunn had begun the casting process for the possibly riskiest project coming from the studio over the next two years. The first character, and likely the most important, that Marvel is looking to cast is Peter Quill (Star-Lord), leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
To sum it all up so far, Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace and Eddie Redmayne had reportedly signed test deals with Marvel and went in for auditions for the part, and now, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a contender as well.
In addition to the five above reported by Deadline (Lee Pace confirmed he did audition), names including Garrett Hedlund, James Marsden, and Sullivan Stapleton were mentioned as well, but it wasn’t clear if they were in talks for the same role or even if they were auditioning as well.

The new cycle kicks off this spring with Iron Man 3, and will be followed by Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And then comes Guardians of the Galaxy, which was officially confirmed by the studio back in July.
In the past few months, we’ve been hearing talks about who will be taking the lead, with the likes of Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables), and more starting to test for the role.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt could transfer from Justice League to The Avengers.
According to Deadline.com, Gordon-Levitt has been added to the list of contenders vying to play Peter Quill in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie. The "Dark Knight Rises" star joins Jim Sturgess, Zachary Levi, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne and Joel Edgerton on the short list.
Deadline.com first reported Edgerton, Pace and Redmayne as possibilities late last year, but THR noted that the search had narrowed to Sturgess and Levi. Whether those two actors are still the top contenders is unclear.
If Gordon-Levitt winds up starring in "Guardians of the Galaxy" it could be considered a coup for Marvel. After all, the 31-year-old star was a key figure in "The Dark Knight Rises," a DC Comics property, and it was rumored that he could appear in the upcoming "Justice League" movie as Batman. (Gordon-Levitt's representatives promptly shot that report down.

Marvel is deep into planning/filming phase two takeover of the cinema. Iron Man 3 is in post-production, Thor: The Dark World is filming and Captain America: The Winter Soldier is gearing up to film.
But what of Guardians of the Galaxy? James Gunn (Super) is on board to direct, but since that announcement we haven’t really gotten any other news. Fortunately for us all Deadline has the scoop on casting for Guardians, specifically Peter Quill.
Here’s brief history of Quill from Marvel:
Peter Quill is born during an unusual astronomical phenomenon when many of the planets align. Seeing no resemblance, the man who believed he was Quill’s father angrily accused his wife Meredith of infidelity and attempts to kill the infant, but dies of a sudden heart attack. Quill is raised by his single mother.
One day Peter returned home, bruised from trying to stop a bully.

Casting has begun for Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel has already put together a list of actors they’d like to see in the role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord.
Since Quill is the leader of the Guardians, it makes sense that Marvel would be strongly interested in taking care of casting for that character, although there’s no word if any of the names mentioned stand out among the rest in the eyes of the studio.
It’s been confirmed that Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Lee Pace (Lincoln, The Hobbit), and Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) are in contention but Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), James Marsden (X-Men trilogy), and Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) are also reportedly being considered.

Since director James Gunn (Slither, Super) has been lined up to direct Marvel's cosmic superhero ensemble Guardians of the Galaxy, we've been waiting to get some updates on the talent in front of the camera. The film won't arrive until August 2014, so there's plenty of time to get a cast in order, and now Deadline has a shortlist of stars in the running to play Peter Quill, the astronaut who becomes the guardian known as Star-Lord. Marvel is making test deals for actors Joel Edgerton (Warrior), Jack Huston ("Boardwalk Empire"), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Lee Pace (Lincoln) and Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) too. In addition, names like Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) and Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) are either interested or have the studio circling them. Finally, James Marsden (Cyclops from X-Men) has also been mentioned, which would put him in the small club of actors along with Chris Evans to...

Most of Phase Two for Marvel Studios consists of sequels to already existing properties. First comes Iron Man 3 in May 2013, then Thor: The Dark World in November 2013, then Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April 2014 (not to mention The Avengers 2 in May 2015). There is one original in the pack, however: Guardians of the Galaxy. Set to be directed by James Gunn, the new film will be heading to theaters in August 2014, and while that may seem forever from now there's a lot of work to do. Including casting the leads. And according to Deadline that process has already begun. According to the site, Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace and Eddie Redmayne are all on a short list of actors being considered for the lead role in Guardians of the Galaxy. You wanted "Guardians of the Galaxy" casting news? You got it.
Director James Gunn's adaptation of Marvel's cosmic superheroes reportedly has its eye on five actors: Joel Edgerton ("Warrior"), Jack Huston ("Boardwalk Empire"), Jim Sturgess ("Cloud Atlas"), Lee Pace ("The Hobbit" and "Twilight" films) and Eddie Redmayne ("Les Miserables"), according to Variety's Jeff Sneider.
These five actors have reportedly signed test deals for Marvel's ambitious space-set epic, so don't start banking on any one of them taking home the grand prize.
As for who they're testing for? Deadline says it's Peter Quill, alias Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians. Furthermore, Deadline adds a few more names including Garrett Hedlund ("Tron Legacy"), Sullivan Stapleton (the upcoming "300" sequel) and James Marsden (already a familiar face to Marvel fans, for playing Cyclops in "X-Men").
So who will wind up playing Peter Quill? Your guess is as good as ours — but hey, at...

After his failed attempt to adapt "Daredevil," director Joe Carnahan is aiming to get another comic book adaptation under his belt.
"The Grey" helmer is reportedly in talks to direct an adaptation of "Undying Love," Deadline has learned. The graphic novel, which was written and illustrated by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, tells the story of two lovers, an ex-soldier named John Sargent and a Chinese vampire named Mei. Sargent goes on a journey to kill the vampire who made Mei in order to free her from her curse.
This might not be Carnahan's next project, as he's already working on "Nemesis" and a remake of "Death Wish." However, it is exciting to know that Carnahan hasn't given up on the comic book movie genre after missing out on the "Daredevil" remake.
Meanwhile, Carnahan has revealed who his dream actor to play Daredevil in his planned remake would have been.

Jai Courtney is going from kicking ass alongside John McClane to finding out if Joel Edgerton has broken the law. New reports say that Courtney has signed on for the co-starring role in Felony, a new Australian drama that is set to be directed by Matthew Saville based on a script that Edgerton wrote. The story, according to Deadline, is about a long time police officer (Edgerton) who runs a cyclist off the road while driving home drunk from a gang bust celebration and lies about it. The trade site says that Courtney will play a "fresh-faced police detective" who suspects that Edgerton is hiding a secret and begins an investigation. This will be the first feature for Saville since he directed the 2007 thriller Noise, but he has been keeping busy on the small screen directing mini-series and episodes of Australian television shows such as Please Like Me, The Slap,...

Felony is shaping into one of the most exciting police thrillers on the horizon. Written by Joel Edgerton and to be directed by Matt Saville (who has already proven himself with his debut film, Noise, another amazing police thriller - seriously, track it down), Felony is about decorated Australian cop (Edgerton) who runs a cyclist off the road after drinking with his buddies to celebrate a major gang bust. His split-second decision to lie about the incident changes everyone's lives forever. Tom Wilkinson has already been cast as the lead investigator who arrives first on the scene. According to Deadline, Courtney will play a fresh-faced police detective who suspects Edgerton's character is lying and gradually builds a criminal case against him. Courtney has had a busy few years. He's...

Aussie rising thesp, Jai Courtney, best known for his role as Varro in Starz drama series ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand,’ has joined his fellow countryman Joel Edgerton in psychological thriller Felony.
Most recently, Courtney nabbed the coveted role of NYPD Detective John McClain’s estranged son in the next Die Hard film, A Good Day To Die Hard, so he’ll be no doubt back on the beat for Felony.
Tom Wilkinson is also part of the cast as he committed to play Detective Carl Summer, the lead investigator.
Matthew Seville (Noise) is directing the film scribed by multi-hyphenate Edgerton, this month in Sydney.

Earlier this year, we wrote about a double feature called The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers where each film will tell the story of a couple, Conor and Eleanor, during a difficult time in their marriage from each of their perspectives. Joel Edgerton was set to play restaurant owner Conor, but Deadline reports James McAvoy has replaced him and he'll star opposite Jessica Chastain, whose character goes back to college. Also, each film is now titled The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him & The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her. Read on! I'm kind of bummed about this news, because as much as I like McAvoy, I was really hoping to see the two rising stars of Edgerton and Chastain go toe to toe in an emotional drama. I'm sure McAvoy will be fine, but there's something special about watching two up-and-comers in...

We’ve got a few casting stories to share this afternoon. Briefly: Multifaceted writer/director/actor Mark Duplass has been added to the already-in-production drama about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, Zero Dark Thirty, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Rapper T.I. joins Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy in the comedy Identity Theft. Bobby Cannavale has been added to the cast of Woody Allen’s untitled next film. Hit the jump for more details on each casting addition. Per Deadline, Mark Duplass makes a late addition to the impressive cast for Kathryn Bigelow’s directorial follow-up to the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker. The film centers on the Navy Seal team who hunted down and killed Osama Bin Laden, and boasts a script from Hurt Locker scribe Mark Boal. Duplass, who also stars on the FX comedy series The League, will apparently be playing a “key supporting role.” In the pic. He...

Kathryn Bigelow seems intent on adding a Most Eclectic Cast award to the Oscars she already has in the cabinet. She's been shooting Bin Laden pic Zero Dark Thirty for a while, and has now added Mark Duplass in what Deadline is calling a “key” supporting role. What that exactly means remains locked behind the film’s security wall, but it’s certainly an interesting choice since he's not someone normally found in a tense thriller. Duplass is usually associated with the movies he makes with his brother Jay, such as Cyrus and the recent Jeff, Who Lives At Home. But he’s also a busy working actor, with films including Safety Not Guaranteed, Your Sister’s Sister and People Like Us all set for release this year.Duplass is joining a cast that already boasts Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Mark Strong, Frank Grillo,...

I think, at this point, it’s best to just suck it up and accept that Kathryn Bigelow‘s Zero Dark Thirty will add actors years and years after the actual thing gets released. It’s just how frequent these updates have been and, what’s more, this is happening more than two months after the film actually began production, too.
Next up on that front, Deadline reports that writer-director Mark Duplass (Your Sister’s Sister, Safety Not Guaranteed) has been granted a “key supporting role” in the film — but, as is typical with Zero Dark Thirty‘s casting, we can’t know what actually makes said supporting role “key.” But I like to imagine that, in a film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, everybody’s got something important to do, and especially when they’re played by Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Édgar Ramírez, Mark Strong,...

Aside from the superb films he co-directs with his brother Jay, like "Baghead," "Cyrus" and "Jeff Who Lives At Home," we've been seeing more and more of Mark Duplass as an actor recently. The writer/director/star appears in cult comedy series "The League," and has recently cropped up in indie festival favorites like "Your Sister's Sister" and "Safety Not Guaranteed," as well as in a role in Lawrence Kasdan's "Darling Companion." But it looks like the actor's just taken his first major studio role, in a film that's one of our most anticipated of the year.
Despite Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" (her film about the hunt for 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden) having been filming for quite some time now, it's still adding cast members, and the latest on board, according to Deadline, is Duplass, who'll take a 'key supporting role.'
