Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Umbrella Academy season 4.The Umbrella Academy season 4 certainly had no shortage of faults, but one of the most prominent was highlighted even more by a Diego fight scene near the end of the Netflix show's final run. The Hargeeves siblings are all incredibly powerful individuals when they have Marigold in their systems. Still, the last run of episodes didn't seem to know how to abide by the rules the show had set for itself over the previous three seasons. There was an attempt to shake up the formula, but all that happened was the Hargreeves' powers became unnecessarily confusing.
Diego's powers in The Umbrella Academy are some of the most useful in combat. In short, he's deadly accurate with almost any projectile. Although he's often loaded up with knives and other sharp objects, he's been shown to hit the bullseye with pretty much anything he can lay his hands on.

The penultimate episode of The Umbrella Academy season 4 pays homage to two famous movies, adding fun moments for viewers to enjoy. Despite being the weakest season, The Umbrella Academy season 4 still keeps viewers entertained with its quirky storyline and movie references. Luther's elevator scene mirrors The Winter Soldier, while Klaus makes a direct reference to Kill Bill.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 may not have been perfect, but the penultimate episode of the show's final run includes two fun tributes to famous movies that are otherwise unrelated to the Netflix show. One of the movies in question is roughly within the same genre as The Umbrella Academy whereas the other is pretty far removed from the superhero saga. The parodies are well-executed and blend well into the context of the uneven storyline, but they're still easy to notice for cinephiles.

At the end of 2021, a surprise contender zoomed toward a best picture nomination when Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s Drive My Car began to sweep critics groups’ awards across the country. The Japanese drama earned the prize for best film from critics in Boston, Los Angeles, New York and Seattle, besting then-frontrunners Dune and The Power of the Dog and eventual best picture winner Coda. Buoyed by critical acclaim, Drive My Car went the extra mile beyond the international feature category, which it won: It also earned Academy Award nominations for best picture, director and original screenplay, way outpacing any predictions made by prognosticators when the season had begun in earnest.
People often deride the Oscars for being about artsy films most moviegoers don’t see. But the fact remains that it’s the studio-backed movies with fat FYC budgets that typically garner Oscar nominations — making Drive My Car’s success all the more the outlier.

Mash was initially a ratings failure but found success after changing timeslots. Alan Alda received the Mash script while filming a movie in prison. Loretta Swit had to fight to develop her character, Margaret, beyond the "Hot Lips" persona.
The Mash reunion included several big reveals about the inner workings of making the series, including how some of its biggest elements came to be. When CBS greenlit the project in the early '70s, it was already the second adaptation of Richard Hooker's book — Mash: A Novel About Three Army Doctors. The success of Robert Altman's film was a double-edged sword for the war show, but it eventually proved that the story was so much better with a longer storytelling format. 40 years since it ended in 1983 with the highest-rated TV episode, "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen," Mash remains at the forefront of pop culture, and somehow, eternally relevant.

Killer Mike has announced Michael Deluxe, a deluxe edition of the solo album he shared back in June. The new release will arrive next Friday, September 15th, and Mike is celebrating the announcement by sharing a bonus track called “Maynard Vignette” featuring T.I., Jid, and Jacquees.
Along with the original tracklist that comprises Michael, Michael Deluxe will feature four new bonus tracks: “Maynard Vignette” along with “Yes,” “Get Some Money,” and “Act Up.” A press release describes is as something like a “director’s cut,” expanding beyond the more concise version Mike had whittled down for the initial release. Additionally, fans can finally get their hands on the music in physical formats, with the long-awaited vinyl and CD versions of the album available to pre-order now.

In the Aughts, Killer Mike was a fiery maelstrom, the South’s answer to Ice Cube, and an Atlanta polemicist comfortable with both dope-boy fantasies and bruising Black politics. But it’s been eleven years since R.A.P. Music, a classic pairing with rapper/producer El-p that inspired the two to form the world-conquering duo Run the Jewels. On his sixth album, Michael, the rapper focuses on his personal life, particularly his late mother and grandmother, with uncharacteristic empathy and restraint, even as he continues to utilize his uniquely brusque vocal style.

Killer Mike is gearing up to release his new album, Michael, this Friday, and he’s shared a collaboration with fellow Atlanta rappers André 3000 and Future called “Scientists & Engineers” as a final preview. Stream it below.
Also featuring a contribution from R&b singer Eryn Allen Kane, the “Scientists & Engineers” instrumental contains futuristic synths that contrast with the soulful backing vocals about living forever as all three rappers spit introspective verses. Whereas André hopes he’ll get a “second wind” at 80 and Future talks about turning “a trap house to a ranch,” Mike closes out the track by promising to keep it “a hundred percentage authentic.” He adds, “I got no gimmicks, so I ain’t protectin’ no image.”
Along with “Scientists & Engineers,” Mike shared the full list of features for the album, which includes Ty Dolla $ign, Curren$y, 2 Chainz, 6Lack, Kaash Paige, CeeLo Green, Jagged Edge, Mozzy,...

Killer Mike has shared the artwork and tracklist for his previously announced solo album, Michael, and shared the latest preview, “Motherless,” featuring R&b singer Eryn Allen Kane. To accompany the single, the Atlanta rapper shared a two-part short film tribute to his late mother featuring the music video for the recently released “Don’t Let the Devil” and “Motherless” visual.
Marking Killer Mike’s first solo effort in more than a decade, Michael contains every track he’s released over the past year, including the Young Thug-assisted “Run,” “Talkin Dat Shit!,” and the previously mentioned “Don’t Let the Devil” featuring fellow Run the Jewels member El-p and thankugoodsir. Longtime IFC Center senior VP and general manager John Vanco is leaving his post at the Manhattan arthouse institution to lead programming for all Netflix movie theaters. That includes New York City’s Paris Theater, the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, and the Bay Theater in Pacific Palisades. He starts April 10.
He’ll focus on Netflix programming at the Egyptian Theatre, which is undergoing an extensive renovation. The iconic venue, originally known as Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre, opened in 1922. Long the home of the American Cinematheque, the theater fell into decline. Netflix purchased it in May 2020, but a reopen date following the renovation hasn’t been announced.

Despite their stock seemingly falling in the decade since the widely acclaimed Two Days, One Night, a new film by the Dardennes will always have our curiosity; even better that our critic was a major fan at Cannes. Winner of the 75th Anniversary Prize at the festival, Tori and Lokita, set to arrive from Sideshow and Janus Films starting March 24, follows the story of two immigrants struggling to survive on the margins of society. Ahead of the release, the first U.S. trailer has now arrived.
As David Katz said in his review, “Tori and Lokita, the latest from the eerily consistent Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, pulls you in opposite directions when assessing it. It is as consummately made and passionately intended as anything they’ve done, but the filmmakers, as is apparent in less-successful films, can really undermine themselves with choices in plotting. Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey says he would love to explore Scott McCall's adult life even more in a future spinoff. Posey starred on all 100 episodes of MTV's Teen Wolf series, which was adapted from the 1985 Michael J. Fox film of the same name and ran from 2011 through 2017. He played Scott McCall, a young man who was bitten by a werewolf and attempted to manage his newfound lycanthropy while also balancing his life in high school and battling the evil forces that descended upon the town of Beacon Hills. He also reprised the role in Paramount+'s Teen Wolf: The Movie, which just premiered on January 26.

From her work in the 2 Days series to her performances in Three Colours to the Before trilogy, which she co-wrote with Ethan Hawke and Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy often imbues her characters with a tinge of heartfelt lunacy, going on creative, insightful, and downright hysterical outbursts regarding some sociopolitical scheme or the real reasons people fall in and out of love. In her latest film, My Zoe––which she wrote, directed, and leads––she takes these career-long ideas to deliver one of her most passionate performances and ambitious scripts to date.
My Zoe is essentially two films, its first 40 minutes taking the form of marriage melodrama on par with the best scenes in Noah Baumbach’s recent work. Delpy’s craft excels when she puts two people in a room—not just conversing but destroying each other, throwing verbal daggers with intent to kill. Delpy plays Isabelle, a scientist...

"Listen to your heart, Isabelle." The strangest part about this is that Arterton doesn't appear until the very end. Huh. I'm intrigued, looks good. Here's the first official UK trailer (+ poster) for Julie Delpy's My Zoe,...

Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu makes playful movies with a lot to say. From the chatty historical inquiries of his debut “12:08 East of Bucharest” to the deadpan musings on the language of justice in “Police, Adjective” to the ethics of filmmaking in “When Evening Falls in Bucharest or Metabolism,” Porumboiu has managed to mine compelling ideas out of slow-burn narrative techniques loaded with unpredictability. With 2015’s heartwarming father-son story “The Treasure” — in which the roving narrative builds to sentimental payoff — he started to enrich his style with more approachable methods. That proclivity grows even stronger with his entertaining noir “The Whistlers,” a polished mashup of genre motifs that suggests what might happen if the “Ocean’s 11” gang assembled on the Canary Islands.
That’s right: One of the directors tied to the so-called Romanian New Wave of the aughts, when dreary masterpieces like “4 Months, 3 Weeks, and Two Days” and “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu...

Patrick Swayze is to be cremated within 48 hours. The "Dirty Dancing" actor - who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Monday aged 57 - will have his ashes scattered on his New Mexico Ranch.
Website RadarOnline reports: "Swayze loved the ranch and visited whenever he could. Swayze turned his Rancho de Dias Alegres (Ranch of Happy Days) into a wildlife preserve and timber farm, he loved the rugged mountains and canyons of his ranch and the cowboy life he led there."
Patrick was well known in the area, and often told friends it was his favorite place to be.
He could often be found flying his private jet across the ranch, and was well-loved by locals.

To the best of my knowledge, this new trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon was supposed to debut during the VMAs on MTV this weekend, but these things have a way of leaking online before their official debuts. It's a handheld recording, so the quality's not stellar, but you get to see the Volturi (including Dakota Fanning as Jane and Michael Sheen as Aro), and I don't think they've made appearances in any of the video before now.
Kudos to Big Picture reader Lillian J., who Tweeted me about this little find, and now you have one less reason to watch the Video Music Awards, so I just saved your weekend. Thank me later.

"This Is It", the movie documenting Michael Jackson's final performance rehearsals days before his death, will come out in theaters across the U.S. earlier than what has been planned before. On Thursday, August 20, Sony made the announcement that the release date for the film has been advanced from the original date on October 30 to a new slot on October 28.
Sony also made public that the movie will be released in a limited two-week theatrical engagement worldwide. And, in anticipation of huge demand for the movie, the studio revealed that tickets will be made available for purchase on September 27, more than a month before the official release of the movie, which is directed by Jackson's longtime collaborator Kenny Ortega.
"As we began assembling the footage for the motion picture we realized we captured something extraordinary, unique and very special," Ortega promised on what the fans will get to see.

As arguably the biggest comedy director working in Hollywood today, Judd Apatow is a funny guy and almost as importantly, he’s been a longtime friend to the MTV Movies Blog, acting as one of our first guest contributors way back when “Knocked Up” was coming out. Well, the big guy is back. Apatow’s next project, of course, is “Funny People.” And lucky for us Judd’s re-joining the MTV Movies Blog gang with a series of exclusive columns hitting every single Thursday between now and the film’s release. Which is This Friday. So without further ado, here’s Judd…

A few didn't quite get it.
Their hearts are cold and dark.
I pray for them.

Lest you had forgotten, antenna TV is being forcibly retired by the FCC in favor of a hard-wired digital connection that will offer better picture and sound. Earlier this year, the transition deadline--the date that antenna TV would officially turn off--was pushed back by Congress to allow people to get converter boxes that they'd need for old TVs to use the new Dtv signal. Well, that deadline is now only two days away: June 12. The airwaves are about to go silent.
But not for long. Back in January, the FCC auctioned off various chunks of the analog spectrum formerly occupied by antenna TV for almost $20 billion. The biggest winners were At&T and Verizon, who scored almost three-quarters of the available spectrum combined. Other blocks were made available to smaller companies to prevent the titans from muscling out competition completely; over 1,000 licenses were sold to 101 bidders.
So what's it for?...

Other blocks were made available to smaller companies to prevent the titans from muscling out competition completely; over 1,000 licenses were sold to 101 bidders.
So what's it for?...

Rejoice Harry Potter fans!
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" will open two days early on Wednesday July 15.
The film was originally schedule to open Friday, July 17, but to satisfy fans, like me, it's opening two days earlier. I can't wait for this film! I read the book, and I'm so excited!
For more Harry Potter goodies, go to the film's official website.
And here's more info about the film from our friends at Warner Bros. Pictures:
Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort's defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague,...

"Harry Potter" fans rejoice! After Warner Bros. pushed back the release date of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" from November last year to July 2009, the film will now hit cinemas two days earlier.
The movie - the sixth installment in the popular franchise - was originally set for a November 2008 release. However, the studio decided to postpone the film and opted for a summer 2009 release date instead.
Now, movie bosses again decided to move the release date. This time, the film will be shown two days earlier, from July 17 to 15.
WB's head of distribution, Dan Fellman, explained the reason behind the move, saying that that giving the film a Wednesday release date is like giving it two consecutive debut weekends.

This just in...Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will now jump forward a couple of days and open on July 15th instead of Friday the 17th.
There's no official announcement from Warner Bros. as to why the move was made, probably because they don't need to explain that it's a money grab. My hunch is this will be the second biggest movie of the summer, certainly no lower than third, and this will really only build up opening week totals.

The 20th Century Fox have adjusted the U.S. release date of their upcoming "Dragonball Evolution" yet again. After moving it to the April 8 slate late last year, the studio decided to put it back on the Friday release schedule on April 10. With the new date, the live-action adaptation will be in competition with "Hannah Montana: The Movie" and "Observe and Report".
Putting the schedule change aside, IGN has just got the chance to interview James Marsters. In the chat, the actor who played Lord Piccolo talked about the differences of this feature film character from the one in "Dragon Ball Z". "This character is nothing like you're going to recognize from Dragon Ball Z because this is a story that happens before Dragon Ball Z. In the actual source material that we were adapting, we were only dealing with Dragon Ball," he began explaining.

Paramount Pictures has just announced that they have moved up the release date for "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" by two days to Wednesday, June 24th. The first "Transformers" made a similar move in 2007. At this point, a brand new trailer is set to appear in front of "Friday the 13th" this weekend. Michael Bay has confirmed that it will be full length and will be released online on Monday. Bay also revealed that those who will be seeing the movie in IMAX theaters can expect three scenes formatted specifically for the extra big screens. Coming Soon reports that we'll have a shorter wait than we thought to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Paramount has apparently decided that, much like the first Transformers, people will come out in droves to see it in the middle of the week, so instead of June 26th, the Fallen will seek its revenge beginning Wednesday, June 24th.
Summer blockbusters do this kind of thing all the time, particularly the closer the release date comes. If there's not any major competition opening up against it, the blockbuster might jump back to Wednesday, knowing it's going to make all the money anyway on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
